Honold in Zürich

this is definitely a great place! Don’t go at Paer, a little bit after, and you will enjoy a beautiful place with excellent dessert stuff. I would claim it’s one of the best in the city of Zurich. The interior is a little bit old-fashioned, but the week you get here is just blowing your mind.

Very attentive and nice service! It's not always easy, unfortunately there was a somewhat cranky customer on the terrace behind us who really wanted raw sugar and was annoyed by nothing. The service responded confidently! Croissant and coffee with milk were very tasty. Thank you!

Looks better than it tastes. The tuna canape had a weird taste, could not finish it. The bread was old and hard. Overpriced, overall not a good value for the money.

I often go here to buy a lye croissant with bacon and egg. I find this incredibly tasty. However, I would like to highlight the service! As I was packing it up, some bacon fell out of the top. A lady ran 300 meters after me to bring it to me and said: The bacon is the best. I hardly know of such good service today. Keep it up!

Just visited here for breakfast, I asked what was inside a roll I was told by the server it’s ham. I brought the roll then when I bit into it the roll was rock hard and there was sauce inside it. I went to ask if I could kindly change it as the bread is too hard for my teeth and there is sauce inside it which I would not have ordered if I had been told was inside it. They point blank refused to help me, they did not change the sandwich I was not offered a refund or nothing. I explained I am from the UK I specifically asked what was inside the sandwich and was told the wrong information which is not my fault. Very bad customer service, no kindness or empathy or willingness to help me. Lost out on money and breakfast. Very bad experience would not recommend to anybody. For that amount of money to then lose out on both food and money is atrocious.

We tried the famous hot chocolate. It was water with a chocolate flavour. I never had such a liquid drink that is praised as the best hot chocolate. Shame!

The right place to enjoy and discover the local besties!!! Delicious sandwiches, amazing coffee and birchermuesli ❤️ the best. Many choice of drinks in heart of the city 😉

It's not unmissable. I'm in the store and I made a point of registering the rudeness of the attendants, one ruder than the other, they don't care about you. In fact, I think this is a problem in Switzerland, if you mind. Order an apfelstrudel. Be content with something more or less. Coarse dough and common filling. Very expensive.

My son went in to ask if the table outside is available and the young women worker just told him to go outside and sit if the table is free and then he went inside to ask again to ask for english menu since we couldnt understand and the same young women worker just told him meanly go outside and ask the lady outside

Well, I like the atmosphere and the location of this place but a bit disappointed with the quality of the sweet and drink versus its prices. Also, the service wasn’t ok. The staff super busy which is understandable. It doesn’t make sense with the order and payment systems. You order the sweet inside the shop and you pay and then you take your sweet to your table yourself. But for the drink, the staff will take the order from you later and pay again at your table. The worst experience for me was I queued up to order the sweet and there were some people before me. When my turn came, there was no one ready to take my order. The staff who stood there she was busy with her orders and asked me to wait. Ok, I showed my annoyance through my face expression and then I saw another lady was getting ready with her coverall before taking the order so I standby to wait until she’s ready. Somehow, the one who said to me to wait said to the one who was getting ready that “sie ist kann nicht warten, hah!“ i was so surprised but didn’t say a word, I also didn’t say that I understood what she said in German about me. I just ordered and took my sweet and sat outside with my husband. To be honest, wasn’t in the mood to finish even I paid up already. Just sat a while and confirm to myself that I won’t go back to this place despite the shop is quite nice. A good service is important for every business, I think.

Food was ok, only thing that was a bit messy is you pay for food by the food ordering area and then you sit down and they take your drink order. Didn't make much of sense. Ladies by the cake counter were not so bothered about customers but having a chat in between. The plumb cake was not 1 of my favourites. But coffee was extremely nice and I love my coffee. Good overall

Unfortunately, like the whole of Zurich, it's overcrowded... the food is delicious, the service is good, and the prices are OK for Zurich.

Luxury confectionery in the center of Zurich, I loved the coffee and the cake too. Top quality, lots of variety to choose from. If you want to sit on the terrace you will have to wait as there are always a lot of people but it is worth it. Very good staff attention. I recommend it

Excellent bakery in the heart of Zurich. Great range of exquisite treasures. My recommendation for breakfast: pretzel with rest egg and bacon.

We took a latte and a dessert, but the atmosphere was hot with death, and whoever sits outside will get flies and bees. Thank you.

Old fashioned, stuckup if your ready for the grave you love it here. Counter staff rude and horrible. Laughed and turned their noses up at customers who asked for help. Where do the staff think they come from, disgraceful attitude from counter staff. Hate people who look down on others. If you want to feel like an old people home this is your place.

Delicious pastry and good coffee, pricey but worth it! Koffietentje is located in a nice and cozy street.

Wanted something sweet. Hot chocolate wasn't the best. I ordered chocolate crossiant. Apparently they were out and I was give a buttery croissant with a sad piece of disgusting chocolate stuck inside. Don't think I'll be back.

Confiserie Honold offers the most delicious range of chocolates and truffles as well as baked goods and cakes. Do make sure to try the Lotti’s Best truffle wihich is made with Tonka bean and is sensational. Their Chakra chocolate is wonderful

Price performance is simply not right

Americano and flat white were delicious. We paid 14 CHF just for coffees. The croissants were also delicious, but we did not like that they were served cold. A nice place for a quick breakfast.

Historic patisserie-café in the center of Zurich. The bread and desserts served are very classic, without any innovation and not too inviting in appearance. I tried a medium quality sandwich, it didn't respect the price paid. The interior is very dated and the staff is not very friendly. There is a praline counter, again very classic looking.

Unfortunately small selection of dessert. Staff is very rude and unclear.

Confectionery actually means a diverse selection of tarts and cakes. We were there in the afternoon and were very disappointed with the selection on offer. Then on the 1st floor (tea room) they offer a selection of tea from a total of 5 types, embarrassing the exorbitant prices and the tea = no taste in the standard bag (no fresh tea leaves)

Price and performance are not right, even if it is in Zurich. Service in the store... no hello or thank you. I expect this at this price level!

Cafe in the heart of the old town. Bit on the expensive side but scrumptious cakes and cookies. Also, we tried famous hot chocolate from here.

2 stars for the delicious delicacies 0 for the service. It's a real shame, the service is extremely unfriendly and bad, it wasn't my first visit and unfortunately I always experience it as unfriendly and demotivated. I won't go again because the price for this service is simply not worth it - to go is a better option...

The ambience and food are actually good, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We waited over 20 minutes to order. Even after asking, they said only 1 second, but no one came after another 10 minutes....

Patisserie is attractive and extremely tasty. The service at the checkout was very friendly and accommodating. The service in the premises, however, was a disaster. Doesn't seem to be uncommon, as my previous visit wasn't any better. The service is slow and in my opinion not well trained. No greeting and no thanks or requests, enjoy your meal or anything else. Unfortunately they were inattentive. When I got up after 15 minutes and asked if I could order something, I was shown to the seat without even looking at me. I wasn't served at my seat was my answer. I should have left. I don't give the store that much chance anymore, even though it's tasty. Take-away is the solution! A pity

Unfortunately, since the opening after Corona, the service has become more difficult with every visit. On November 19th, 2022 at around 1:30 p.m. the restaurant upstairs was around 50% occupied. Nevertheless, neither the waitress nor the waiter were visible. Without a hand signal, the two realized nothing. When my tea finally came, it was the wrong one. The customer at the table next to me immediately felt the same. She waited probably 10 minutes and her coffee didn't come. She went to the buffet and then at least he came. But she had to order the snack again. It was simply forgotten. She also remembered it differently. Absolutely no longer a recommendation. Schade enjoyed going there for decades. Luckily, there is “Starbucks” opposite

We stopped here to warm up with tea and ended up with having a tasty light lunch! Food is delicious and the deserts are incredible!

I bought a Bircher muessli with a 100 CHF note and the saleswoman claimed I gave 50 CHF. Was just yelled at by the saleswoman and portrayed as a liar. Outrageous! Never again. Thanks for nothing!

rather average pastries & coffee was not bad, interior was old-fashioned but nothing special. service quality was terrible - waited a good 20 minutes for a server to take our orders, and their attitude was basically impatient and hostile. went to the counter to order the pastries with 3 employees behind the counter with all of them basically avoiding eye contact with me, doing nothing and not wanting to attend to me. asked questions about the pastries as they did not have english translated labels and they answered me in a one-word, deadpan tone. not sure why they’re even working here when all they offer is a ‘i don’t give a shit’ attitude to you. feels like this cafe is taking their past reputation and good location for granted as their overall food & service quality has definitely dropped. truly a disappointment.

Honold always has amazing cakes. The first floor tearoom was open and relatively empty when we visited on a Saturday midday so we were able to get a seat on the balcony outside.

The Confiserie Honold is a traditional Zurich company and is probably referred to by some as a “top confectionery” because of the fond memories of the better days of this company. Unfortunately, their prices are still top-notch (e.g. any 4 truffles in a box for over 16 francs!). In terms of quality, Honold plays in a rather average league, absolutely no comparison to Confiserie Teuscher, the star of the industry, or to Sprüngli. A pity!

Old fashion European style cafe and pastry shop. Food quality is good, price is not cheap, well their location is in the heart of old town, the store has to survive. Few of waitresses actually speak English, communication could be hard if you don't understand Dutch, German or Swiss.

The food is very tasty. I was recommended a chocolate moose cake thing by the Italian waiter and it is more addictive than coffee. Thanks Frederico. It's nice to sit outside and watch the ebb and flow of people up and down the street. Staff are friendly and manage to have a chat eventhough this place can get busy. Inventory is already very old. But why do anything when the store is full?! Quality of the food on offer is mixed. e.g. Mini Chocolate Guggelhopf was a flop - Chocolat Mousse Cake, on the other hand, was top. The Mini Silser sandwiches also have a more homeopathic topping (roast beef). Despite the good location in Zurich, price/performance is rather on the lower limit. The friendly staff makes a lot of things better.

Old Zürich. It used to be quite the place, but everything has gotten a little old, as has the clientele. The quality has suffered, as has the old intérieur and the uncomfortable seating outside. The prices are very steep for what you're getting and everything- from the canapés to the breads, treats and salads can be found in better, fresher quality elsewhere in Zürich these days, with nicer seating at that. Possibly worth a trip if you used to go and are feeling nostalgic, otherwise best to avoid.

Authentic and high quality confectionery in an excellent location. The rooms are inviting and appear fresh. The products are world class and a pleasure through and through. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend this confectionery without reservation and hereby award it 5 stars.

Excellent place to have coffee, but only thrives off its location, thus overpriced. Staff took ages to attend to us as well. The place is cozy and has good stuff though.

Very nice apprentice. Has good specialist knowledge and was able to explain everything to us.

Unfortunately I had to point out to the service staff that the table needed to be cleaned because it was very sticky. Especially in today's difficult situation, cleaning the table should be a matter of course. Otherwise nice.

They have the best Epiphany cakes and buttered pretzels in town. 😋

Very good coffee. Friendly and helpful service (for example, I asked where the coffee was roasted and received a detailed answer). Pleasant atmosphere, although when there are a lot of people it seems a bit cramped and the furniture is a bit old. Excellent COVID protection concept and excellent cleanliness in the guest room and toilets. Plus: Disinfectant from Aromalife with pine scent ❤️

It is not as good as some reviews are telling. It is an average coffee shop, cake shop, rather over-hyped and overpriced. The Schwarzwäldertorte (Black forest cake) basicly did not have any taste, pretty disappointing experience, especially for the high price.

Quality of the products is medium to good. Restaurant in the back area is not very inviting. Sometimes there are longer waiting times, which is due to the good capacity utilization. As is often the case here, space and tables are limited. Service was friendly but not prompt.

Unpleasant place to waste time: The one in charge of placing customers is friendly like a jail keeper, needed to order 3 times to have basic drinks and waiting 20min to be able to pay (while charging more than our actual drinks).

Hasn't been there for 30 years. Everything is still the same as it was back then, including the Bircher muesli.

The service was excellent and the cafe is centrally located, with a cute and homey decor. Unfortunately, my coffee was terrible. I would not recommend the watery cappuccino.

On Monday September 20th, 2021 we wanted to enjoy the delicacies from Honold with our fully vaccinated guest from England. Unfortunately that wasn't possible, we were denied access by the boss because the certificate had not yet been converted into a Swiss certificate. I tried to explain to the lady that this was not yet possible and that the paper certificate including ID was valid until October 10th. She claimed as of September 20th. Guests from abroad must have the converted certificate. We recommend that staff be better trained and informed. FG
