This hotel is located close to heaven: in the Swiss Alps. It's a funky, authentic place with the owners on site and great value in their rooms and food. When I go back to the Alps, I will go out of my way to stay here. Oh, and there are great hiking trails and nature walks nearby, a photographer's dream any direction you turn. Really worth the trip.

Nice restaurant with various options for a hike. TOP price/performance and always a spot available. Anyone who comes here openly and warmly will receive the same welcome :-) Lots of vegetarian dishes, but nothing vegan (yet). We had a great lunch and will be back!

Super friendly, pleasant mountain hotel and restaurant, we only went for a snack and ordered 2 portions of jaussebrätt, it was beautifully prepared, we enjoyed the 2 hours. Keep it up.

Homely accommodation in the beautiful Gasterntal. Rustic rooms, friendly hospitality, good food. We really enjoyed our stay as a family. There are play options around the house but you can also spend time with children on the banks of the Kander. The only disadvantage is that the house is very noisy - which is made clear to you upon arrival.

We ate very well today and especially the fruit cake was the best we have ever eaten. In addition, the service was extremely nice!

The Berghotel Steinbock can be reached in the Gasterntal via Kandersteg. Beautiful terrace seating, fine food and a large selection of drinks.

Some service people were rather demotivated and were harsh towards customers. This generally affected the overall ambience of the house. In general, the answers and behavior of the service staff were cold and left a lot to be desired. The ice tea I ordered was steeped too long and too bitter. This was the highlight of the visit.

Cozy and highly recommended! As always, this stay was wonderful and unforgettable.

Restaurant, friendly welcome, good fireplace, pleasant

Pleasant atmosphere, hardly any hygiene measures are followed and no ID is required, breakfast is ok even though only toast is offered as bread. Cleanliness in the mass strike leaves a lot to be desired. Double rooms/single rooms are extremely noisy.

Rooms very simple but ok. Room price too expensive. There would be no camping bed for toddlers Luxury.

Fr 84.- per single room. Small and soft bed. 3 toilets, 2 showers for the entire hotel, including the dormitories! I wouldn't want to be there when the place is full. Ok, there are additional toilets in the restaurant during opening hours.. The food doesn't make up for it. : I had a breaded schnitzel. Generous portion but the meat was of poor quality and probably industrially prepared, the crust was falling apart. It looks like he had marinated the meat in Maggi. The ultra-hard fries, probably leftovers from lunch that had been put back in the fryer! I am a chef by trade and know what I am talking about. Breakfast just ok, elsewhere even simple hotels offer cold meats or eggs. In short, avoid it. Go and sleep in another valley, like the nearby Kiental, with a simple, correct and inexpensive hotel.

Friendly staff, well-kept, comfortable hotel. I asked out of the blue for gluten-free bread for the next morning, and they had it. Excellent breakfast by the way: cheese, homemade jams, dried fruits, muesli etc.

Nice and quiet restaurant/hotel. Very nice hosts. The restaurant offers fine food, the rooms are rudimentary but very comfortable. You don't have an internet connection, but you can enjoy nature all the more.

Very, very nice restaurant with a very cozy atmosphere. As far as I've seen, it's pretty much the only restaurant in this part of Gasterntal. The fireplace is very nice. The soup was fine and elegantly prepared. Älpler Maccaroni were also very tasty. We were super happy to get there.

A beautifully located hotel in an oasis of silence in direct contact with nature, a great place to soak up the beauty of the mountains.

Lovely little mountain hotel with restaurant in one of the most breathtaking surroundings on earth - in Gasterntal (about 2 hours hike from Kandersteg). Delicious food, very friendly and quick service. There are several serious hiking trails starting from the hotel. It is reachable also by car or minibus via a very picturesque and a bit scary one way road .

It is wonderful. Here in Gasterental. We almost always go here. The restaurant is also nice and the terrace is cozy.

Friendly and good restaurant in the beautiful Gasterntal. Very friendly and fast service. After a strenuous journey by bike, the delicious gardener's and alpine magrons were the perfect refreshment! We'd love to come back.

Stopped here briefly after hiking, the service was friendly and quick, the food was perfect. The children's menu doesn't just have the standard children's menus. We ate the Gasterntal plate, which was good enough for a snack for two. Note (has nothing to do with the rating): a small fee is due for driving on the road into Gasterntal with motor vehicles, which can be paid at a machine at the valley entrance.
