Jägerstube Zmutt in Zermatt

Walked all the way there from Zermatt only to find it was cash only. Who has cash these days? Walked all the way back again...

Beautiful restaurant in a very beautiful location. Perfect place to rest after a long hiking trip. Perfect place to enjoy some local dishes and light snacks and well-needed coffee and sweets. Enjoyed a delicious apple strudel on the terrace. The restaurant is beautiful inside and has plenty of seating space. The inside is quite nostalgic and reflects the culture of the area and the name of restaurant which is linked to hunting. So many local animals are displayed on the walls. The toilet was clean and accessible. The Staff members were very friendly and welcoming. The service was great and the food was delicious. The staff members spoke multiple languages. The restaurant accepts cash only. The terrace is perfectly positioned in front of the Matterhorn and the rest of the valley and is exposed to the sun almost all day. The restaurant is right next to the hamlet of Zmutt which for more than 500 years, stood on a small rise at an altitude of 1,936 m, among lush alpine pastures. The traditional wooden houses, closely huddled together, tell of a long history. The restaurant is also located next a rectangular baroque chapel with a recessed choir and a small bell tower over the entrance. It is dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria, the second patron saint of Valais, and is a place of calm that the shepherds of the region liked to visit for their prayers. Beautiful

The Jägerstube Zmutt was a positive surprise for us towards the end of our day hike. Of course, this made the cold beer even better. The weather was so nice that we could sit outside. The outdoor area is very special, you are in the middle of old, very well-maintained huts. Just beautiful!

The Weier Zmutt can be reached with an easy hike from Zermatt or Furi

good afternoon, we wanted to visit the restaurant on April 28th after a long hike. It was clear on the internet that the restaurant was open, and this was also confirmed to us at the hotel. Because of this, we didn't pack any provisions. We were very disappointed to find a closed restaurant. It was a shame, it was a beautiful day and we certainly wouldn't have been the only guests. We enjoyed our apple strudel with vanilla sauce in the sun :) The service is very friendly. The hike here is really great: forests, natural meadows and the Matterhorn can almost always be seen.

Very nice sun terrace to chill out and also attentive service. We walked from Zermatt towards Furi and then turned right to Zmutt. We then returned via Herbrigg, which is highly recommended.

Zermatt has an intact - but sophisticated townscape. If you want to see an intact but original townscape in the area, the village of Zmutt is ideal. On the northern edge, slightly elevated, is the Jägerstube restaurant. Of course, if the weather permits, you can sit outside on the spacious terrace. There is a lot to see in this great natural arena. The gaze also wanders upwards - not in search of the Matterhorn, which would actually be quite close, but is unfortunately hidden by the Hirli in front - no, in the afternoon thermals, bearded vultures and eagles regularly sail over the rocks of the Höhbalmen. It can happen that the food gets cold even though it was delivered quickly and hot. You feel comfortable and well looked after here.

It came our way at the best time. It is already sold out to sit on the terrace with a nice view and a glass of cold draft beer. It turned out to be a good decision.

Amazed at the gourmet food in village of Zmutt.

Simple, efficient, fast and typical local cuisine. The welcome is also pleasant, and the staff is English speaking. And what a setting! In the middle of the mountains, the ideal place to take a break in the middle of your hike. Be careful though, as is often the case in these small mountain villages, only cash payments are possible.

Tumut village is a very small village. The restaurant is also family friendly.

Fantastic scenery, beautiful place

Indoors not visited, outside it is very cozy. Not necessarily gourmet cuisine - that would be difficult - but very good regional dishes.

A corner of old Zermatt: reacheable only by foot, we didn't find a great choice for dinner: käseschnitte (tipical cheese bread and kirsch) or rösti (potatoes with eggs, bacon or other). Due to the road closure, they didn't have other provision. I don't give 5 stars because they don't accept credit cards: we had to go in the church square to leave the cash in another shop... The location is otherwise fantastic, with a supreme look on the north face of Matterhorn. The position is far from ski slopes and really quite and magic.

Enjoy your meal. Friendly staff and an absolutely great location in the middle of the mountains.

Traditional Valais cuisine. From starter to dessert it is very good and of very good quality. Welcoming service. A very good address which is worth it after a short walk from Fury or a little longer from Zermatt. But Zmutt is essential. Take the hike a little further and you will have an exceptional view of the Matterhorn.

Wonderful location. Nice terrace. Good, simple and inexpensive food and drinks. Friendly hosts. Our regular restaurant on the way in the area. Inside, a renovation (e.g. refreshing the upholstery of the benches and wood) could significantly improve the value.

Authentic and wonderfully hospitable

Zermatt in July or August is my favourite time to visit. The hike from Zermatt to Zmutt is wonderful and on a warm summer day the best thing to have at the end of your hike is a cold beer. Restaurant Jägerstube has an amazing terrasse with a great view. The food is straightforward Swiss cuisine which is perfect for this setting. The village of Zmutt has an old world charm and after your hike, a kalbsbratwurst with röschti will be exactly what you want to eat. This restaurant has a homestyle feeling and the people working here are super nice, helpful and professional. A great place for lunch and then dont walk the same way you arrived, take the trail that is higher and enjoy the incredible nature and views of the Alps.
