Weird dishes, wine list leaves a lot to be desired, little on the plate for a lot of money, the only thing that was good was the friendly waiter, with this menu I can't recommend it

Normally I would be giving great feedback to the Krafft Basel. Having visited on numerous occasions I was looking forward to arriving on St Stephen’s Day 26th December en route from Amsterdam. However a stomach bug means I have to change plans and although the hotel has availability for the following evening they are refusing to move my reservation. This would mean I would have to pay another night at a much higher rate, i.e. pay for two nights, stay for one. What shoddy service. At Christmas. Needless to say we won’t be visiting again. So much for customer loyalty, thrown back in your face in preference for profit margins. As for the reply below to my original review: no reduced rate was offered to me. In fact the reception was under the impression I had booked the penthouse suite, not true, and offered me a rate far higher than the one I had already paid for. This would have meant I would have ended up paying more than twice as much as I would have for only 1 night’s accommodation. So much for customer service, long live the bureaucracy.

Me and my wife had dinner on New Year's Eve on December 31, 2023 at the Krafft restaurant. What a desappointment ! We were told that the Krafft hotel restaurant had a Michelin star. Surely a false indication, because everything went wrong: First we were asked to come at 7:00 p.m. We found it was early for a New Year's Eve night. But OK ! We expected to be received in the large room (in green in the photo), we were placed in a small room with a low ceiling (in red), without music, without anything. We were alone in this room for over an hour before another couple arrived. The dishes came together quickly as if they had to finish quickly. I had to ask the waitress to space out the dishes. All this for CHF 162.00 per person anyway. I admit that we are a little responsible for this situation given that we booked at the last minute. But still, the welcome we received was truly unworthy of the rank that the restaurant aspires to and completely out of step with what we expected. I can understand that the large room was full, but why put us in this small room, when there was a lounge at the entrance that could have accommodated us better? We were very disappointed with this evening and we can only advise the head waiter not to make this mistake again with future customers.

Very pleasant welcome, young and efficient staff. Very large room, clean comfortable bedding, we slept great. On each landing you have coffee maker, drinks, kettle etc.... The hotel does not have a car park but 2 minutes walk away there is an underground car park and thanks to the hotel you benefit from a 23% discount. the hotel is very close to the center, you can do everything on foot which makes it interesting because it is quiet. Our stay was super pleasant. we highly recommend.

Beautiful restaurant with a beautiful view of the Rhine. The service staff is incredibly professional and warm. We had a little misfortune and you saved the day. We recommend the Krafft restaurant with all our hearts!

We loved this boutique hotel with such history and architectural character in the older section of Basel. Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful. We loved using the hotel's complimentary bikes to explore Basel. It is also super conveniently located - only 1/2 a block to the tram. We also appreciated the long window for the included breakfast from 7 to 11 am.

At lunchtime we enjoyed a very good wild sausage with knöpfli and red cabbage with a view of the Rhine. Very humorous, competent staff, which further enhances the fine food. We slept that night in the newly renovated studio room number 5-1. The room has been very tastefully designed and exudes a wonderful feel-good atmosphere. As a guest at this hotel you will feel that little extra in terms of service, customer focus, humor and friendliness. Bravo, we'd love to come back.

Terrible experience with this guys. Basel airport was closed due to a bomb threat and we couldn’t fly there. We called them to explain the situation and they didn’t care and charged that night that we couldn’t use. Insensitive and anti-Semitic people!!

The food and the quantity served is not up to the price for me, I was still hungry at the end of the meal. For the two small sandwiches which are served with industrial chips it's quite a shame for 38CHF. The staff is rather cheerful, the setting is pretty, especially on the terrace.

Good experience in the restaurant that was recommended to us. The dishes are good, although not very plentiful, the service is impeccable and with a smile and the view is breathtaking over the Rhine facades. The price is a bit exorbitant for the quantity however...

We visited the Hotel Krafft for lunch. We sat on the terrace with a view of the Rhine and enjoyed the delicious food there. The service and the taste of the food was excellent. We were served quickly, cheerfully and very friendly. Definitely visit the toilets sometimes. The path there is interesting.

We live in a new building (not the one where the front desk is located), and the rooms are comfortable and the service is good, but... the bar street downstairs is extremely noisy at night... If you want to have a good rest at night, I strongly advise you not to choose this place! Don’t choose this area!

We celebrated our wedding here many, many years ago and have now finally made up for the wedding night 😁😁 super nice team, we were pampered with champagne, an upgrade, breakfast in the room and everything always with a warm smile. And the rooms are just as charming as the staff! We recommend the rooms at the top with a balcony and a view of the Rhine. Thank you very much and keep it up!!!

I was finally able to stay overnight at the Krafft - which I've heard so much about! It was a wonderful experience all around, from the reception at the reception to the stylishly furnished room with the handwritten welcome card, the aperitif in the Consum Bar and the breakfast with the homemade Birchermüesli and the freshly cut fruit salad. What impressed me most was the cheerful and warm team; all the employees I interacted with were super motivated and friendly. I'm really looking forward to my next stay!

A cute restaurant right on the Rhine with very tasty food and drinks! The apple-mint lemonade was great and the soup of the day made from pureed beetroot had to have been prepared with a lot of love, as it tasted so good. The prices were quite reasonable. Always my pleasure!

During a spontaneous visit to Basel, we ended up at Krafft, where you can still get something to eat even late at lunchtime. The food (lamb rump; burrata) was very good and the service was friendly and helpful. The only downside was that after a change in waitress, the bottle of wine we ordered only came to the table when the food was almost ready. It still tasted good!

We loved this place. It's beautiful, and the location is ideal. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking the river, which was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was luxurious, with very nice amenities. Espresso is included and is available only steps from the room, and cold water (both plain and with gas) is on tap. There is a small communal refrigerator for your own drinks. Special mention of Matthias, who, from the moment we arrived until we checked out, was absolutely delightful. His smile was contagious. 😊 He is very knowledgeable about the area. The hotel is lucky to have him.

After reserving a table for 7:30pm and waiting until 8:15pm for it to become available, we gave up and went somewhere else.

We were drinking a bottle of Champagne on the riverside of Kraft restaurant and we booked table for eating for 8 persons for 19:30-20:00. At 20:00 two persons were still seated on the table that we booked; just having a drink. Waiter Dustin told us that he couldn’t ask them to move away; even that they were only 2 persons occupying the table for 8 persons… Amazing to see such poor way of service of treating clients in Switzerland… As these 2 persons weren’t moving we decided to skip this restaurant as it seems that they were definitely not interested to serve 8 Persons for food instead of 2 persons that were just drinking a beer… >> Pitiful

We reserve a table for 7:30 p.m. for 8 people. In the meantime, we sit on the terrace and order, among other things, a bottle of champagne. 7:30 p.m. the table is not available, it is still not available after 8 p.m. because it is occupied by 2 people. Was it so complicated to ask these 2 gentlemen to move to a table of 2 right next to each other? Perhaps a minimum of training would be necessary to learn how to manage a service... because losing a table of 8 in these conditions is bordering on ridiculous.

The location is absolutely beautiful. Front desk reception was extraordinary. Take note that the rooms can be a bit warm.

Restaurant located on the Rhine promenade in the center of Basel. Very nice, simple but nice. We ate well, abundant dishes. I don't give 5 stars only for the service which is efficient but a little cold, courteous but very detached. However I recommend it.

Great location and the staff was lovely. I really enjoy staying here. Anastasia was super helpful when I left my phone in the taxi. She was the reason I was able to get it back. This time my room was on the smaller size, and the hotel was sold out. But I will definitely stay again.

Booked a solo room with balcony. Great views over the Rhine towards Mittlere Brucke. 20ish minute walk from the train station. Room was clean and relatively spacious. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was great too.

Situated on the Rhine promenade. The location is just a dream. Everywhere nearby. The rooms are very clean, towels are changed every day, everything you need is available in the bathroom. There is a bar, coffee, tea, water, cookies and fruit on each floor. TV and internet. Advantages only. Very nice service. I recommend

Hotel and restaurant directly on the Rhine. Outside seating directly on the promenade. Good, attentive and very courteous staff. We were served very well, but not very quickly, but it was also very well staffed that day. But a carton of beer for CHF 5.60 is at the top limit. I can't rate the hotel (no overnight stay).

Beautiful setting, quality food (except overdressed salad), inefficient service. I don’t like to give criticism but the slow, confused service did effect my enjoyment. It may have been due to the fact that I was at the tail end of lunch hour and my waitress might have gone off shift, but there was no follow up by other wait staff. Salad was average for $13 (basically bag salad mix), with too much dressing - soggy. The quality of the lettuce was good but $13 for basically a house salad…the main was delicious - a chicken/quinoa/eggplant dish which was excellent. Should be for $30! But of course you’re paying for the beautiful location too. I had to keep signaling different wait staff all the time - they never checked on me - needed tap water because it’s been brutally hot. Also they forgot my second course. After waiting 30 -40 minutes after I finished my salad I finally had to get up to find them and ask for the rest of my meal - another 15-20 minutes before it appeared and no one came to clear the old plates. Lovely place with some glitches.

I can't talk about the quality of the hotel itself since I only frequented the restaurant. Was pretty good. It's a 4 star hotel so the restaurant is bound to be good.

What is not to say... multiple room types. I was last minute booking and stayed in smaller room. Very comfortable, no ac which is no surprise, great fan and window open more than comfortable. Obviously a little noisy, it's city center, but quotes down at bedtime. Enjoy the buffet breakfast, great location, but the service...well it's just kind, personable and every detail is paid attention too. Staff could not be more helpful and genuinely make it thier passion to ensure you gave a good stay so to the Director, Andre's, Anesthesia, just everyone thanks. Don't go overboard often, but these folks really deserve prase.

We were here for the first time. The service was excellent, we were served very nicely. The chicken nuggets for the children (which were not on the menu) were freshly made from real meat and very tasty, and the pasta served with them was perfectly cooked. The Greek salad was good both visually and in terms of taste. The teething that followed was a long time coming. In my opinion, the pilaf rice with the sauce dreige was too sour and I also missed a clear note of basil.

Very friendly ladies advise guests on the right size/small menu. The quality of the food was excellent, we were all thrilled… especially the tartare, the zander fillet from Ticino and the tarte Tatin. My colleagues were blown away by the two vegetarian dishes.

We ate at Krafft as a group of 4. The ambience is beautiful, the atmosphere is very pleasant. Unfortunately, that didn't convince Krafft; This is particularly due to the food concept and the very high prices: you can easily pay upwards of 60-70 francs for a main course and it's not really a revelation. Each side dish and each sauce is a separate cost item in itself. The pork chop, for example, is served füdliblutt for 38CHF. In addition, there is 3 CHF for the sauce and 6 CHF or 7.50 CHF for the vegetables and the fries. So that amounts to around 54.50 CHF without a starter. The taglierini with black truffle for 28 CHF was a little soft. About the food concept: Half of the menu is intended for two people or more. You can then combine everything freely (starter, main course, side dish and sauce). This results in unconventional things like a cold fish dish à la sushi with French fries. We found out about the right combination when ordering, but we were told that the combination was ok. The advice was poor and no one really knew what to order. In general, the service was a bit negligent (e.g. we had at least one red wine stain on the tablecloth next to every wine glass). At least we were offered champagne for the little fish sauce mishap on the sweater... ;) Well, overall it's a really nice location with an interesting but chaotic food concept, nice but somewhat sloppy service and poor value for money.

Centrally and beautifully located at the Rhein river promenade, Hotel Krafft is a charming place to stay. I booked a riverside single room for a night sleep-over and the view on a sunny January day made my day. Room is functional and flawless. Maybe in winter a bit gloomy lighting in the early morning and late evening. The building is in great shape and has strong character. Especially the spiralling staircase is a strong feature. Room was very quiet, staff very friendly and breakfast very amiable (if you want to afford the extra CHF 30). I stayed there on 3 Kings Day and received the traditional Dreikönigskuchen - very tasty! Streetcars leave just close to the hotel. Line 8 carries you to Basel SBB train statiom in 15 minutes.

The service was great! The Hirschbäggli were also great, and the Maisvelouté is also recommended. The wine recommendation was exactly in line with the menu. The dessert (chestnut puree, meringues and quince ice cream) looked a bit off. Nice atmosphere! Good price-performance ratio! Would come back at any time!
