Nice hotel, super centrally located. Close to the old town, trade fair, musical theater, sights, tram on the doorstep). Very quiet at night. Very nice welcome with a room upgrade, original rooms (a mix between old and modern), comfortable beds, self-service fruit, tea, coffee and water on every floor, very attractive breakfast buffet. Parking options in the nearby Rebgasse Parking (fee approx. 35 Fr. per night)

Top restaurant & food! Always my pleasure!

I've been to the Volkshaus a few times, unfortunately the service is getting worse and worse. There wasn't much going on and people still walked past empty glasses. We would have liked to have another drink and then left at some point. The drinks are quite good. The food is delicious.

For a plum Lutz 9CHF! Are you crazy ? Water, a drop of espresso, 2 cl plum water. Incredible!!!! And served cold.

We were at the Schnitzelbängg 2024 (Monday) / the Volkshaus is in a great location, easy to reach / the large hall was comfortably decorated / the cheese and meat platter was already on the cabaret table (4 people) / top service people / the program was brilliant (various . We were there as a large group for Carnival. The reservation and organization was top and easy. Very flexible! Also good for children. The food & service was great. There was a Guggen concert in the inner courtyard. I can warmly recommend the Volkshaus. We will be back! Thank you

The inner garden is amazing! One of my top places to go in Basel for group dinners and when friends visiting. Service is always attentive and professional, pet friendly and the food is great( a bit pricey tho depending on what you order. My always go to is steak frites and steak tartare.

We were at the restaurant for dinner. The service is top and very attentive. Great wines, good food, elegant atmosphere. But the price-performance ratio is not right. For these high prices, that certain something is missing...

Was just the visit to the "Charivari"

The introduction of Charivari was great, as was the service staff.

Very slow service in the bar, we had to wait a long time until someone came, then we waited a long time for the drinks even though there weren't many people left. Drinks were good though. Restaurant cozy, service good, food ok, but completely overpriced for what it is. E.g. 17.- for a starter salad, shrimp cocktail (starter) 26.-, Wiener Schnitzel 55.-, steak 53.-, mussels 45.- etc. The prices are really a disgrace! I had the tartare, a mini portion for 45.- and was not at all satisfied. Simply chopping up raw meat and seasoning it lightly isn't a real tartare... well I guess I won't be back :/

What a stylish place! The design of the hotel rooms and the restaurant was done by famous architects Herzog and de Meuron and it just shows. The staff is attentive and helpful and the restaurant has an amazing choice of french inspired food. Try the schnitzel and the mousse au chocolate. Breakfast is great too with a large buffet plus a a la card choice of egg dishes.

I was in the restaurant on January 20th, 2024 and then ordered two espressos. There are two cold espressos coming, give them back to get two new espressos. And quickly they were on the table. Try the same Interteller etc. because espresso is warm but tastes subterranean. Questions why? We took warm cups and poured them over. What's the point of not even making new espressos and then another 10.40 - just never ask for no go again.

Food was great - had steak and ravioli. Pricey and value for money is mid.

Mussels are to be avoided at the restaurant, to save you from a bad night. If they can’t handle seafood, they just shouldn’t.

We had a bad day our flight leaving Switzerland was cancelled. We checked into the hotel last minute and the staff were very helpful and accomodating. We had a lovely drink at the bar before dinner. Thank you for your help much appreciated. Peter and Zsofia.

Although I have stayed at Volkshaus earlier this year (March 2023), the more I travelled both for work and leisure throughout the 2023, I wanted to leave a review for this hotel. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much nor did I read up about the place prior to my stay. I booked via my usual hotel booking platform because I liked the photos, and needed relatively central. But we all know that 9 times out of 10 there is usually a massive disparity between fiction and reality :) All I want to say - I wish more wannabe-hotelliers (yes, Im talking to you, Hotels with '5*' I stayed at this year) would come and stay at this place to learn about idea, design, construction, and its' execution. If you are like me and appreciate levelled spaces, attention to detail and just clean vibe - I would recommend a visit. Because I am a hopeless construction romantic (every profession comes with it's upsides and downsides 🤣) here is what I appreciated: - a levelled transition between the wet and dry zones, tiles grouted in level and silicone placed properly, and a good ventilation in the shower; - I loved the suede curtain grab (for ease of closing and opening); - I actually appreciated the sockets and plugs away from the bed - for me it worked within the space, and both overhead and bedside lamps worked well as well. Switches for lights were relatively easy to navigate (you know, how most of the time it feels one needs a Phd in lightening🤣?) - I especially appreciated the communication between the street lanterns and the interior wall lights - I don’t know if this was before in the space or was added by the designers - but that was a good dialogue. - Easy and simple system for filling in your water jug (the room had a tray with jug and glasses and it was voiced at the reception how this all works, also that station had coffee and tea and apples); and I loved the drinks cart airplane style at 16:00 to the room. I have had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel as well, and although service was a bit slow, the food was well-made (as in quality stuff) and nothing to add apart from it left a good impression on me and my parents who joined me for breakfast one morning. Generally, good design is expensive - because it requires 1) communication skills between the construction 'symphony' aka team; 2) good 'sheet notes' aka plans and elevations your construction team can read and make sense of it; 3) passion for what one does. Here I felt all of it, and just hope the management will continue taking good care of the staff and this place!

The hotel is a boutique and there is good service but you have to consider that there is a lot of noise, you can hear everything from the rooms. They supply you with plugs already in the room. They also charge you an additional €100 deposit during check-in. They told me that they were withholding the amount, then they charged me, they charged me again for the room without the deposit and it took them more than a week to return the money. I do not recommend it.

Spontaneous dinner: good cuisine, pleasant ambience with courteous service.

Very nice hotel, beautiful rooms decorated with great care by renowned architects. The service is really good, the employees are great. Big big downside: the rooms overlooking the interior courtyard where everyone goes out and speaks loudly, no acoustic protection is unbearable. For families this is a real problem. In conclusion, because of this big downside, it is not worth the price. It's a 4 star not a 5

First and foremost the breakfast is outstanding. The service was amazing. Everyone could speak German or English. The beds were like floating in the air. Everyone was so kind and friendly. Definitely going to come back, and recommend to others

Price performance unfortunately inadequate. Starters far too expensive and too small. You can't get a main course for meat and fries for less than 40 chf. For the price, the details like lemon towels after the moules are missing. Tables so small that a side shelf has to be used. Far too loud and temperature borderline. Our gastronomy scene has a real problem, we don't come like this anymore.

Great hotel right on Claraplatz. Great, minimalistic designed, absolutely clean rooms! I recommend a room facing the inner courtyard. The breakfast was delicious and rich. Egg dishes are freshly prepared. WiFi signal is great and there are numerous restaurants and supermarkets in the area. I will gladly come again.

Great vibe, quirky hotel, delicious drinks. Kim was amazing in the bar and very informative about the local produce from the area. Rooms were very clean and tidy and local area was nearby with lots of interesting attractions - entertainment, food, bars and a barber all within 5 minutes

Excellent, high-design room, delicious breakfast surrounded by art. Room included a very nice dinner at the restaurant where I had the best schnitzel I’ve had in Switzerland. Highly recommend, the value is there for this hotel. Only small thing to be aware of if you’re a light sleeper: buses and other vehicles are loud on the street side. If you have a room on this side, it can be noisy past 1 am. They do provide ear plugs!

Had an amazing time at Volkshaus (the restaurant section of the venue, didn't stay in the hotel). The service was top-notch. The entrecôte was cooked to perfection. The vibe and the atmosphere in the restaurant were cozy and welcoming. If you're in the area and you're not on a budget, you have to check this place out. Highly recommend 👌

The windows are not soundproof, you can hear people at the bar below and it is cold in the room. The double bed is just one large mattress, two of you don't sleep well. At reception, they take CHF 100.- as a guarantee "just in case" even though the room has already been paid for. The welcome is not warm. The only thing worth it is the breakfast which is excellent.

Had my third visit to the Volkshaus today. This atmosphere and service is just a dream! I would especially like to thank Chris. A great waiter, you can really tell that he puts his heart and soul into it. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Absolutely unbelievably poor service from the older grey haired waiter. For someone who must have been waiting for as long as this guy had he was the most rude waiter I've come across. When I told him he'd been rude he said "I've never been told that before" and walked off. Would not recommend this place at all.

I myself organized a conference in mid-September 2023 in the Volkshaus with almost 40 participants. It was a very successful event - also because all the Volkshaus employees are really good hosts. The employees all have the “we are only satisfied when you are satisfied” spirit. Everything fits together well, the rooms are beautiful, the bar is casual, the restaurant is great, sitting under the plane trees in the courtyard for lunch is unforgettable. The feedback from my event participants was clear - we'll be back!

Wonderful courtyard. I suggest the Burrata with Truffels and the Meatloaf. Would come again for a evening full of memories.

Nice rooms, a bit dark. Beautiful courtyard and great location. Service at check out poor. The employee came up to me with her mouth half full and said she was having lunch. I was no longer allowed to go to the toilet. I should ask the neighbor. You were not allowed to drink more than one glass of the cucumber tap water offered. At prices like that, the employees can't afford it - you expect friendliness and courtesy.

Was there for lectures. The on-site support was exemplary.

We recently ate at this restaurant and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the food wasn't entirely satisfactory. We ordered the entrecôte with pommes allumettes. However, the fries were very salty and quite hard. Unfortunately, the food was not value for money.

This hotel brilliantly combines elegant design, exemplary cleanliness, optimal comfort, attentive staff and an ideal location. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are immediately seduced by its sophisticated design. The common areas have a modern aesthetic, skillfully combining classic and contemporary elements. Wood, metal and glass give a warm atmosphere to the entire establishment. The clean lines of the furniture and well-designed storage spaces help maintain an orderly and pleasant atmosphere. The quality of the general maintenance of the hotel was optimal. The rooms are also well soundproofed, guaranteeing absolute tranquility for a peaceful night's sleep.

Went to eat in a shop. Food was very good and nicely served, service was quick and friendly.

Come for a concert, I recommend balcony seats. Nice setting, parking nearby.

Great location, top location and large hall

We at be ready GmbH from Seuzach took part in the boxing event boxeo 2023. The competitor won his amateur competition. The event was well organized by the Basel Boxing Club. The boxing ring looked really good in the Volkshaus. There are parking spaces in the area. The toilets were very clean. The area in front of the entrance was cozy and inviting.

I was at the loco escrito concert. Never been in this small but nice room. Jackets could be given away for 2fr. There are more than enough payment toilets. I thought it was a bit stupid without toilet paper. The concert was great and would be recommended

There are a lot of people in the restaurant and the environment is good. The hotel and the restaurant are relatively independent. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very good. The first meal is the fennel and orange salad, which is 4 points; the main course is the ribeye with leek cheese sauce, which is 4.5 points. Overall, it is 4.3 points.

The Volkshaus completely spoiled us with an exceptional dinner, a simple, luxurious retro hotel room and a simple, high-quality breakfast. The service was courteous, the dinner was down-to-earth and above average in taste, the room was visually very appealing, the toiletries were high quality, the bed was a bit small in size, but comfortable. And the breakfast buffet is clear and with vegan products and other additions on request.

Were here for a week in total and were happy with the hotel selection from A to Z. Extremely nice staff, clean rooms, excellent service and the hotel is very nicely designed. Located in a perfect location for Basel for excursions or for the office. It wasn't loud at all in terms of street noise or other rooms. On each floor there is a water dispenser, tea, coffee and fruits. Lovely again!

A fantastic New Year's Eve party as part of the Kitchen Dinner. Exquisite dishes, new ideas like the pasta flambéed in Parmigiano. A great job from the entire team. And at midnight there was a bang, lasting in the IMI Bar until the early hours of the morning. All 1st league, congratulations!

Very great hotel. Beautifully furnished, top modern and nice large rooms. The staff is extremely friendly and competent. The coffee and water stations are simply great and, above all, free. In the brasserie you get good service and wonderful food. The bar is also of a high standard at fair prices. Nobody stands after this huge old fashion. Thank you!

For connoisseurs of art, architecture and cuisine... During a spontaneous autumn trip to Basel we came across the Volkshaus and achieved a real “trick” in the best sense of the word! Stylish architecture of a house with history meets stylishly integrated art without any intrusiveness. We were able to enjoy our short stay in a cozy, modern room with really high-quality furnishings. The concept of a central coffee, tea & water bar for the floor was new to us, but is probably the most sustainable solution we have come across so far (no unnecessary glasses, coffee machines, water bottles in the room, but everything is still available immediately)... Compliments for them Idea and successful implementation! The location was also perfect for us: just not far from the Mittelbrücke and therefore a few minutes from the historic center and at the same time just a few steps to the banks of the Rhine for a short walk. In the evening we were lucky enough to reserve a table in the in-house brasserie... and thus enjoy one of the most outstanding culinary delights. Whether newly interpreted cocktails as an aperitif, French cuisine with moules frites or beef cheek in a perfect implementation between tradition and modernity, or a digestive that tickles the taste buds and soothes at the same time. The price is at a higher level, but still a fair price-performance ratio for great quality and generous portions. All of this in a highly professional, appealing and at the same time calm atmosphere. At this point, compliments to the service with genuine interest and passion (thank you, dear Viola!)! We would like to thank you for this successful short stay and look forward to being able to enjoy Basel again in and with the Volkshaus!
