Migros canteen style food at extortionate prices, served by arrogant and unfriendly waiters. This restaurant sums up Switzerland: Overpriced, unfriendly and out of touch with reality. If you want to blow CHF 1k for 5 on substandard service and food, this is the place for you.

Simply good. Service perfect. Atmosphere perfect. Eat good. Expensive? Not cheap. That is valuable. Kronenhalle is noble but not stuffed. Classic but not dusty. Friendly but not ingratiating. An oasis of good taste. Thanks.

Simply a Zurich institution you should visit at least once. The food is excellent but the menu would benefit from a refresh. Service was outstanding, atmosphere good too though perhaps a bit stiff. A great evening and we’ll certainly be back.

This restaurant brought out my Swiss pride, took me back to my childhood. Food very good, but also has its price. Service is very attentive, but there is always a certain hectic pace. You definitely have to see it once!

All the food was very tasty. The portions are big and the waiters are fantastic and very nice. However the price/food is a bit off since 26€ for a eclair is expensive but i guess this is what Switzerland is all about. Overall, very nice restaurant, highly recommend. PS:Try the “stroganov” ,it’s fantastic and best on the menu imho

Always excellent service and delicious food. Quite pricey but very good quality of ingredients. Well recommended.

The overall rating for this restaurant is 3 stars. The person attending is too rude. They were speaking in german in the reception to the restaurant and I arrived and asked "english?" and he replied: "eine minut bite!" like very angry and in a very bad way. This should not happen in a restaurant where I pay 500CHF for a lunch of 3 and half people, the service must be good, yes or yes. This behavior cannot be tolerated. You can have a bad moment or a bad day but you have to treat your clients always well. Very sad because the food was very good and the woman attending you is also nice!

We spent a wonderful evening. It was my wife's birthday, and as soon as we were escorted to our table, she received congratulations, including from the friendly waiter, who politely explained our questions about food and wine. I also really appreciated what he knew about the Kronenhalle and art, which I was very interested in. I also received a small booklet with the history of the Kronenhalle. The food was a poem, the portions were nice, wine, dessert, everything was delicious. Our waiter was very friendly, with a smile, even a joke, we felt very comfortable. The fact that there was a dessert with a candle for the birthday child (my wife)... wonderful! Thank you!

We clearly went to this “must-go” in Zurich because of the great recommendations and the description of the ambience. We ordered the traditional dishes, which are supposedly prepared according to unchanged recipes. The very talkative waiter made an effort. But nothing more. Starters were okay so far. However, rather average for the price. The meat of the main courses is shown first (for whatever reason) and then placed on a counter in the restaurant. This resulted in the food being lukewarm before it came to the table. A meal was delivered incorrectly (instead of a truffle fillet for 82 francs! a pepper fillet was served). However, it was not completely taken back, but rather warmed on a rechaud and the truffle sauce was added later. The second meal (filet stroganov, 69 francs) was almost cold and I also sent it back. Was also warmed up again on a rechaud. This meant that we all ate at different times. The waiter's apology: "It wasn't intentional" (which one can only hope for). As compensation there was mousse au chocolat which was put on the table without asking first. The meals were charged in full. In summary: outrageously expensive food for more than average quality. Service tried hard but subpar for a restaurant of this class. The ambience is the only thing that actually stands out. The rest was just a disappointment.

Everything just fits here. Tried and tested for decades, you can see this in the exquisite dishes, the ambience and the interior. We enjoyed a royal evening and the extraordinary service from Andrea put the crown on it. Thanks!

Perfect diner! The veal zurich style was the best I add in Zurich! The chocolate mousse with cream is delicious and cocktails are amazing! If you look for a typical high quality Swiss restaurant, do not think twice!

Wonderful, traditional restaurant. Very attentive service, perfectly prepared food, expertly served. Not exactly cheap, but the whole experience - dining amidst all the works of art and the venerable art of the restorer - is worth it!

was recommended this restaurant, we were sat upstairs and I wish we were sat downstairs but nevertheless we had a beautiful meal surrounded by art. The food and service was wonderful. Halibut was stunning! The place is very traditional but I couldn’t fault it.

The restaurant has more or less remained the same classical upscale place I remember from my first childhood visits 54 years ago. Perfect mise en place and service team. The food is as rich as ever and has hardly changed over time. Solid cooking, but nothing fancy, big portions. Good selection of properly priced wines. Unfortunately, there were some tourist groups present during our last visit and the place became pretty noisy.

It was our first time in the Kronenhalle and we initially had an uneasy feeling because of the dress code we received via text message. However, the Kronenhalle positively exceeded our expectations. We felt comfortable and in good hands from the first moment. The service was brilliant - friendly and relaxed. It was really great to eat there, also because of the ambience. The meal was excellent! We want to come back.

Just entering this restaurant is already a wonderful experience, the early twentieth century style environment with the symbols of the cantons and the writings in Gothic characters create a unique environment. The counter is beautiful and the atmosphere created by the paintings hanging everywhere is remarkable. We had dinner in the upper room of the restaurant, the furnishings were very refined, the service was perfect for a high-level restaurant and the food did not disappoint, perfect as expected. Of course we are talking about a restaurant with very high prices even for the standard of Zurich which is already very high. For an appetizer and a dish, with wine, fresh water and coffee, calculate €120-150.

An absolute classic in Zurich. Since my father showed me the Kronenhalle for the first time about 30 years ago, I have loved it again and again.

Wow what a place! Probably number one restaurant you need to visit in Zurich due to its history, excellent service, impeccable style and what a historic monument! You feel like you are in a middle of gallery with amazing assortment of paintings and pictures. The food was excellent, our favorite was beef carpaccio, veal kronenhalle with rosti and breaded veal. The wine list is also very strong with variety. Definitely put this on your list!

The service is not up to par with the restaurant. The waiter who served us was unfriendly, didn't make eye contact and removed the plate even when the cutlery indicated that we were still eating. What a pity.

Food was really disappointing. Neither tasty nor filling portions. Plus overpriced. The service brought the dessert menu and the bill without asking. You could really tell that the next reservation was timed closely. For the noble restaurant we were treated more collegially than elegantly. The ambience was nice, but the restaurant was cramped with cramped tables. It was extremely loud and if you don't mind the fact that there are other guests gossiping loudly 50cm away, then you can do it. I will never go to the Kronenhalle again. I've really put my money to better use!

The Kronenhalle is our fav restaurant in Zürich. It's bar is one of the greatest in Europe we'd say. Since 1924, in the heart of Zurich, one can savour outstanding cuisine in an unmatched atmosphere that pays homage to tradition. Its proximity to Zurich’s Opera House, Schauspielhaus theatre and Kunsthaus museum, as well as its own art collection, make the restaurant a perfect spot for us, since we are a lot at the Opera... for all those who also prize visual aesthetics, they have paintings from Miro to Picasso. Definitely worth a visit, when in Zürich. The 'Zürigschnetzlets' /Émincé Zurichoise is the best in town. They also have vegetarian options (see photo below). (Recommended to check their so called Rules of Good Practice and Dress Code).

Basically great food & staff but atmosphere a bit tense.

I‘ve been to Kronenhalle a couple of times already and always liked the atmosphere and professionalism of the staff, but not this time. The waiter was arrogant, did not make eye contact and he did not even ask us if he could serve a second plate, he just placed it on the table (not even replacing used cutlery) without even asking… as if the food was worthless. The roesti was burnt and salty, but the rest was ok. It‘s a shame how one bad waiter can damage the reputation of a restaurant, which is usually known for good service.

Thank you Sami Talaj - your service was truly outstanding! I had spent my evening at Kronenhalle for a dinner with my friends. Our experience at Kronenhalle was truly exceptional! The attentive service from Sami Talaj was extraordinary and memorable. Thanks to his attention, we felt the delightful ambiance of that place and he did serve us their fantastic food, which was geared to the season named 'Rehrücken' and therefore we were given an outstanding recommendation from him. We didn't actually know the menu as such, but he was best positioned to recommend the dishes for all of our group's guest. With this memorable dining experience in mind, I would recommend that place as a 'must have seen' one when someone is travelling to Zurich. The staff's good interaction especially our waiter Sami did add to one of the best perceived personal touch compared to many other restaurants that we have seen before. Overall, it seems like a place that goes above and beyond to create a wonderful atmosphere for its patrons. Can't wait to revisit them again for both the food and service.

Disappointing! Unsatisfactory experience! The service aggressively pushed drink and food sales, causing unnecessary stress. My steak arrived cold, and to my mind the fries are better at the low key neighboring Restaurant Sterne! Food was too salty too. Improvement is urgently required for a more positive customer experience. Superior restaurants that prioritize excellence can be found nearby. Definitely not worth your money.

I've been a loyal customer so far, even if the restaurant isn't exactly cheap. Unfortunately, those responsible have “shot the bird” with the new guest regulations. It is an impudence and an outrageous arrogance to impose such regulations. My t-shirts, which I prefer to wear as a shirt in the summer, are more elegant than many shirts. As mentioned, the joke about dog sizes is also a joke. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see the chef de service measuring the dogs with the meter anymore because I will avoid this shop in the future.

THE standard of the upscale restaurant par excellence. Brilliant service from perfectly trained, extremely attentive and friendly people. The compact menu offers Swiss and other specialties, which are wonderfully prepared and sometimes presented and taste delicious. The wine list is equally compact, but could do with older vintages. An experience that is no longer often found in this very traditional and confident style in the world.

Completely absurd rules for eating at this restaurant. We wonder who these people think they are, it’s quite amazing!

In addition, I requested a side of the fluffy and light spaetzle. The chocolate soufflé I consumed for dessert was the ideal way to conclude my meal. It was delicate and ethereal, with a robust chocolate taste. In its entirety, my repast at Kronenhalle was a memorable one. The ambiance, food, and service are all exceptional. Kronenhalle is, undoubtedly, the place for those searching for an extraordinary dining experience.

Wonderful service and exquisite food. A luxury.

We went there tonight the 23th October. I started with shrimp cocktail and it was disgusting, my wife had the soup and it was ok. The service was long. The main dish was breaded veal which was ok not more and I had the signature dish that had no taste what so ever. It cost around 300 franks and it was worth more like 50 franks. Don’t suggest it at all. There are better good in Zurich

As always, an absolute highlight. Like last year, I had my birthday dinner there and am thrilled every time. Top cuisine, very competent service staff and the ambience speaks for itself.

The Kronenhalle is an absolute gem in Zurich. The food is consistently first-class and reflects the high culinary art of Switzerland. However, what really sets this restaurant apart is the staff – second to none in their professionalism and attentiveness. Yes, the prices are higher, but every franc is worth it for the level of food and service you receive here. A must for anyone who wants to experience the best Zurich has to offer.

Superb food and definitely fine dining ambiance (exquisite paintings for instance). Approx. $600 for 4 people. Breaded veal escalope with rosti paired with Swiss Pinot; mousse for dessert. Dinner of champions!

We've eaten there a few times and the food and service are excellent. It's fine that they have strict dress codes for lunch service and everyone can run their restaurant the way they want. However, you could emphasize this in a nice SMS reminder, and not as a boss receptionist at the table trying to lecture the guests about regulations and where to find them. The lady sends my guests to the table so that they can tell me that they are not welcome wearing shorts. It would have been very appropriate if you had bothered to tell me this. Or do you just want to expose the unwanted guests a little? I really enjoyed coming to this restaurant. Do you want a restaurant that stands out for its elegance? But this also includes a staff that stands out for its elegance and behavior.

Super nice location and great environment. It is really authentic. Service is not what you expect from this kind of restaurant. It is a little bit amateur. Foods are ok but not super. The star dish was the one with avacado (forgot the name). It is a little bit overrated review.

Somewhat disappointed hence the 3 star. We arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait 20min at our table before someone gave us some food menu and took our coats, and had to remind them to bring the drinks menu too…. So 30min go by before we get our drinks and placing orders. We specifically asked the staff for no dairy/butter, yet the vegetable still came cooked in butter. As we were leaving and asking for our coats, the waiter casually pointed us to where the wardrobe is. We don’t mind a bit of self service, but would have expected better service for the reputation of this place. Have to admit the food is decent enough, no wow factor though. Steak medium rare is decently done. Had to force myself to overlook the service and try to enjoy the ambient - the tradition, history, art, paintings et all. It’s a real shame that it’s not accompanied with the experience and service this place should deserve.

2 inedible dishes: as a starter, a salad of raw vegetables macerated in vinegar (we felt like we were swallowing a bottle). Then veal scaloppine in a sauce that was way too salty... we had to remove the sauce from the meat to make it edible. An astonishingly pretentious waiter, who was surprised that we did not have champagne and did not thank us for the tip which was nevertheless 10% of the salty bill also taking into account what was served! Avoid at all costs... lives on its now overrated reputation.

It's 35 degrees outside and the Kronenhalle doesn't let anyone in with shorts at lunchtime (!). It was probably a blessing in disguise, because the restaurant is now overpriced and more of a tourist attraction.

For me the best Entrecote Cafe de Paris in Zurich. The hash browns are always excellent too. Unfortunately the wines are overpriced.

Addendum, long overdue: Even as an occasional guest, you can almost feel at home here. Wonderful! || It may be unoriginal to enjoy the sliced ​​meat here - but it's worth it! Excellently prepared, delicately seasoned, the rösti is also excellent. The reheating of the second portion over the small gas rechaud was nice to see; experienced and careful, yet completely unaffected. In general, the friendly, natural staff with their unobtrusive manner were always there at the right moment, really perfect and extremely pleasant. We really liked the Zurich Rosé, as did the Gazpacho Andaluz. Overall, one of the most well-rounded dining experiences of all time. The only thing that first-time visitors need to get used to is the narrow entrance, which could be mistaken for a side entrance. But then...

Stellar drinks and bartenders, always a great bar.

Everything is excellent. Not only the art gallery is amazing. But also the food is really delicious (beef Stroganov, beef tenderloin, parfait desserts) and the service is great. The restaurant has a long history. At the same time it is a really good fine dining restaurant, not just an attraction for tourists. Book a table in advance, especially on weekends.

Only breaded pork is what they know how to serve.....
