This evening we were at the Pizzeria La Pergola, Restaurant Gartenlaube. I've ordered takeout several times in the past. Pizza and Ravioli Porcini were always very good. The pizzas are not "world class", but good - i.e. the price/performance ratio is basically right. I had never ordered any other food. Back to tonight: The starter, bouillon with tortellini, was nothing special but still good. Afterwards there were two pizzas - good as described above. Afterwards we ordered dessert and were really looking forward to our tiramisu. The menu said "homemade tiramisu". Since it is a restaurant that offers Italian food, I strongly assumed that the tiramisu would definitely be good. So I wanted to try it. What happened next is hard to believe... unfortunately I didn't take a photo of it. So I have no choice but to describe the “Tiramisu” as best I can with words. You really can't call something like tiramisu. The dessert, whatever it was, was layered with alternating layers of soaked ladyfingers and, no joke, chocolate sprinkles. Mascarpone cream was completely missing! No joke, there was no mascarpone cream or any other cream! Just, I have no idea what exactly, soaked ladyfingers with chocolate sprinkles. The top layer was some mixture of coarser chocolate. We both tried a forkful of this "cake" - didn't taste good. We didn't continue eating and of course complained to the service lady. We told her that after this pizza, which was really quite good, we were very disappointed with the dessert. You really can't sell something like that as tiramisu. In my opinion, this “cake” should not have been served even as a dessert described differently. Without commenting or discussing it, the service lady took the dessert back with her. A short time later she came back to us and said she had spoken to the boss. The dessert would be canceled and we would even be offered another dessert. It was really nice, but after that we really didn't feel like eating any more food from the kitchen. Also really very disappointing that no "cook" or boss came to our table to explain themselves. It would have been the least you could do after such a dessert. Well, everyone sees it a little differently. I hope that this was an exception and that a "normal" tiramisu would otherwise be produced and served. And no, my comments are really not an exaggeration. I come to the following conclusion, which is my opinion: If you have no conscience about selling such an inherently bad dessert as tiramisu to a guest, then you simply lack professional passion and respect for the guest. There's somehow no excuse for that. We were in the gazebo for the last time today. A pity!
