McCarthy's Irish Pub Bern in Bern

We were here for a burger at short notice with 3 people and a child. The pub was almost fully booked because there was a Premier League game on. Nevertheless, we received our food quickly. The quality was very good and the price is probably due to the city of Bern.

Beer tasted like soap. Staff did not respond to the complaint. I paid for the beer and left it. Once again you don't need it in the city.

Always worth a visit. It feels very Irish - and the staff are just so friendly.

With few exceptions, Irish pubs outside Ireland are tourist traps, and this one isn’t different. I went there bcos there wasn’t anything else open showing the football match I wanted to watch, and it was fine, but not better than that

Best place in Bern for a good time with friends. The burgers are tasty, good burger bread, lots of good beers (where did the Blue Moon go?), lots of screens, friendly quick service. The pub exudes something “cosmopolitan”. I hope you stay in our dreamy Bern for a long time!

For a beer it's fine, but for dinner you have to make do. The environment is worn out and the level of those who serve is in line with the environment. Look carefully at the bill, the prices vary but I don't know why.

Classic Irish pub, with a corresponding beer selection. Food was very tasty (meatpie, wings, loaded nachos, spare ribs, everything was delicious!) lots of sports events. Unfortunately no more DJs, not even on weekends!

Very nice pub in the middle of Bern. A dream for beer lovers, the menu is forever long, but the prices for beer are quite high. What I liked best was the finger food. I like to eat something small when I drink a few beers with friends. There are nachos, chicken wings, garlic bread etc. The prices for the food are really fair. In the restaurant you can only order in English, which is ok since it is an Irish pub. The pub is large and comfortably furnished, so you don't actually want to leave. In any case, a good place for people who don't know their way around Bern like me. Lovely again.

Delicious pizzas, very friendly and humorous service. I go there again and again and am happy to recommend this restaurant. As far as ambience is concerned, that's entirely a matter of taste for the owner and is completely ok, because the food and service are relevant for me. I always enjoy visiting this restaurant :-)

Amazing blue cheese bacon beef burguer. My gfriend got a chicked wrap. All was superb. Kilkennys recommended. Get ready to be fully immersed in Ireland and Irish accents!

Nice place to be. You should definitely try the food and of course the beer. For big groups it will be hard to find a table.

A very nicely designed pub. But you should actually be stoned for music. :) I've never heard such bad music in any pub in the world. A little Irish would be nice, at least now and then? Otherwise you get the feeling that hardly anyone here has ever been to Ireland. But otherwise good.

Modern spacious pub with excellent food, wide range of drinks, plenty on tap and the place in Bern to get a proper pint of Guinness, Traditional Irish food (Pies, Wings). A good place to go to see Rugby, Football and other sports on request. Well worth booking for sports events. Nice staff too. Outdoor seating improved in 2023 and capacity increases later in the evening. Yes its pricey, but its worth it. They should put a TV right at the back corner though....

Ideal place in Bern to taste the best beers in town. All sports are available and a must go in town for a tasty beer. Good drinks and good food are ideal for a weeknight in the city center.

Why do you live and work in Switzerland and not even try to learn the basic words of a national language (German, French or Italian)? Hardly anyone understands German (except the few Swiss assistants). If you only want to speak English, you should go back to Ireland, UK or USA. Unfortunately the burgers are not good and too expensive and the coleslaw has more mayo than anything else. Go drink here and watch sports on TV but forget about eating anything good here.

The beer selection is good and the Server knew what to suggest. Food was a bit disappointing, nothing special in regards to the Duck Leg dish and Burger.

I've been there twice already, it's just great because you clearly don't skimp on alcohol when you order a cocktail.

Great atmosphere, lovely space. I appreciate that ordering chicken wings means you actually get the flat and the drum for every wing. Fun to hear the Irish accent among the expats as an American in Bern for a few weeks. Great staff, good food, very much enjoyed my visit. Will be back the upcoming week for a beer with the colleagues here.

I will spend the rest of my life trying to find nachos that live up to the nachos at McCarthy's 😭 So good we got them twice in one day. The rest of the food on the menu is also really good and the drinks didn't disappoint either! Overall, a really nice atmosphere and lovely staff in a great location.

Good beer selection, tasty food but unfortunately the staff is quite inflexible. The entry doors were open the whole time, outside temperature not summer like but it was more important that the staff was not «getting hot while running around» than customers meeting needs.

Good Irish pub. Interior and upholstery is clean and well-maintained. The staff is friendly though not overly-nice. The portions could be bigger for those price tags that's for sure.

This was really good food. The bangers and mash were on par with the best I've had in Ireland. We really enjoyed the roast beef salad as well. A perfect variety dish. The service was incredibly friendly.

What really struck me about this pub was the quality of the service. The food was delicious (I highly recommend the steak and Guiness pie) and the atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable. Two weeks later, though, what I keep remembering is how warm, thoughtful, and attentive all the staff were. It felt as if the whole crew was personally committed to us having a most excellent night out. We savored a long, happy dinner and never had to ask for anything (except of course, for the check when it was finally time to go). Many thanks for a memorable meal in Bern!

The food is and remains a disaster at McCarthy’s! Cheap mixed mashed potatoes, limp French fries, tasteless sausages. Plus overpriced beer! My tip: just go somewhere else. McCarthy's is no longer what it was

One of the best "Irish" pubs I've been in outside of Ireland. The food was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful and we had booked a table for an important GAA match they seated us nice and near two big TV 📺 and to make things even better our team won 🏆

Was on holiday in Bern and booked a table here for food & drinks to watch an Irish GAA match and Mc Carthys did not disappoint. The food was incredible, the staff were so nice and friendly. Would most definitely recommend!

It's not far from our accommodation, so we went there for dinner. In conclusion, it was a very satisfying meal! The overall atmosphere and music of the restaurant were good, and both the hamburgers and ribs I ordered were delicious. There were many different types of beer, so I was able to order different types of beer, and the staff were friendly :)

Large pub with lots of seats and good food offerings and live sports (especially football). Unfortunately, only a few places can be reserved and it is usually full, so it is advisable to reserve early.

A nice Irish pub to spend the evening in Bern with a very rich menu. I recommend booking, even via the website, because it is very well known and frequented by locals.
