Great restaurant! The food was excellent. You can tell that high-quality products are used here. The service was courteous, warm and very competent, the boss takes care of the guests personally. The wine selection is also impressive. Gastronomy is alive here! We look forward to the next visit.

This is our first time here and we are very positively surprised! We celebrated our “anniversary” with a 5-course menu. We were personally served by the boss, where else can you find something like that. Carlos served us a menu that definitely deserves 5 stars for price/performance. Unfortunately we forgot to take pictures; we were only able to photograph the desert. We'll definitely be back.

Went to Mesa Madrid for the first time today. Very nice, well-kept atmosphere. We were surprised with an amous bouche which was a delicious taste explosion. Mega. Had a beef fillet, it couldn't be better! Buttery tender, nice crust on the outside, perfectly fried on the inside as desired. Tried all the side dishes with it. And Carlos the boss was super nice, courteous, attentive, an unforgettable Sunday lunch. Thanks. Immediately and again at any time!!!!

It may have taken a while for my mouth to sink in, but this was the best "Rubia Gallega" of my life... For meat lovers, this restaurant is a must. The Galician blond cattle served here are simply unbeatable. I wanted to wait a bit to write a review so that it didn't come off as a one-time experience. I have now been a guest at Mesa Madrid three times and have also been able to enjoy other specialties. As a starter we had Pata Negra ham. The Iberico at Mesa Madrid is always a “Joselito” or a Sanchez Romero Carvajal “5 Jotas” - there is no better ham. The lobster (only available by pre-order) was still alive, it couldn't be fresher. The sauces are always homemade and freshly prepared. With the fish we had a bottle of Albariño “Laureatus Dolium” and with the meat we drank a bottle of Ribera del Duero “Gran Resalte”. Both have an excellent price-performance ratio. Fantastic service, meticulous cleanliness and a quiet ambience rounded off my visit perfectly. ... I would think that Mesa Madrid is slowly becoming my favorite Spanish restaurant. Many thanks to the host and the well-coordinated team.

You can't get quality like in Galcia in any other restaurant in Zurich. The ingredients in each dish are high quality and carefully selected, which you can tell when you taste it. We were surprised at how quickly the dishes we ordered were on the table, service was TOP. My sister, who is a vegetarian, also got her money's worth. We will come back.

A journey into Spain fines. I have not been here for a while but was surprised to rediscover this place again. It's a completely reinvented concept of the previous restaurant, now with very high quality standards. If you're a foodie, then you will certainly appreciate. We had well thought through, rich but balanced starters. Then 30days aged stakes. The dessert was very authentic. Would highly recommend.

The MESA Madrid restaurant has been recommended to us on several occasions. Read about the Spanish Embassy giving an award. That was the trigger. The 3 tram stops from Central were more than worth it. It was 30 degrees outside, so we decided to stay inside. Neat interior. Warm welcome from the hostess. We decided on a business lunch. Gas pazcho, cold - made for the summer day. Elegantly poured at the table over fresh tomatoes/bread croutons. 5/5 stars. My companion chose the cod, I chose the beef fillet and - well, I just love them - Spanish fried potatoes. But there are 3 side dishes to choose from. Despite the business lunch price, I was able to change the side dish without any discussion. No extra charge. 5/5. We decided on open wine on a 30° C day. Whiter, smoother. Spain. An oho rosé wine and then another - classic from Ribera-del-Duero - red wine. Bottles remained at the table (at first we thought we were misunderstood and had ordered a whole bottle) but no, glasses that were served were charged for. So here too. Seems to be so common among Spanish restaurants here in ZH. Friendly. Reminds me of an old Italian restaurant. The bottle was also on the table and the billing was done on the paper tablecloth. Not here at Mesa Madrid - nickel-clean, solid, white fabric tablecloths. Place invites you to linger. We skipped dessert because it was already 2:20 p.m. and rushed to pay. We lost track of time and not the slightest sign from the staff that it was time. Sorry for the delay, but left a great impression. You'll be happy to come here again. Very soon and then a whole bottle will be on the table. Wine cabinet promises great things. Thank you very much.

The wine selection is also fantastic and recommendations are given to pair with the dishes. Portions too small, food nothing special. The hosts are pushy and don't exactly speak German. The restaurant is nothing special, more like a canteen. Certainly good as a canteen. Nothing more and far too expensive.

I've been to Mesa Madrid a few times with friends, acquaintances and family and we've never been disappointed!! The restaurant, with its seasonal, very good cuisine, offers the right thing for every occasion! Eg: the entrecote etc.! It's worth a visit whatever the weather! When the weather is nice, you can enjoy a fantastic terrace with very friendly and competent service and the lovingly prepared menu. From the greeting to the farewell, we had an impressive experience. Also worth mentioning is the concise but representative and skillfully put together wine list. Last but not least, the warm hospitality in a dignified, friendly atmosphere also contributes to a relaxing stay, where the guest will also find the right wine to crown the enjoyment! This place is 5 mins walk from Central station. The food here is amazing. It has great quality dishes and absolutely delicious. We are so lucky to stumble upon this restaurant. The service is tip top. Highly recommended and will definitely come again. The set lunch is reasonably priced and food presentation is really top notch. Don’t miss this place when you come to Zurich.

Perfect restaurant with friendly staff and phenomenal food 😍 I got the surprise menu, which was huge, so many dishes with meat and seafood and tasty desserts! The owner’s wife is so sweet, she was such good company and loved talking to her, super proud of the restaurant👍 The mesa Madrid is one of the five restaurants in Switzerland that is Spanish authentic restaurants with very fresh ingredients and tasty dishes! I personally can’t thank them enough! My favourite dish was the cod, very tender and paired with perfect sauce!

Excellent Spanish food! Probably the best Spanish I have tried in Zurich. Their meats are excellent. The lamb is outstanding! The Iberico pork is also unbelievable. Only one suggestion, they should have better side dishes. There is no interesting veggie side dish such as spinach or grilled asparagus etc. The price is on the high side, but given the high quality and excellent service in expensive ZH, somehow it is still justified occasionally. Maybe reconsider the pricing of your starters, croquettes at 32 chf for 4 seems a bit exorbitant even for ZH.

We were there for lunch. I had fish and chips. My friend had pasta with pesto. Both were very good. The potato soup and dessert were also very tasty. The service was great too :)

Unfortunately this is no longer the MESA of prior (which many/ most reviews still rave about - I would have too of the former restaurant, which was amazing). This new takeover unfortunately is not at par with previous level. Turned into a Spanish upper scale (price wise) restaurant, the food was good but nothing special to be remembered. Staff was friendly. For a Spanish upperscale restaurant, I was expecting to have interesting wines by the glass - the latter were a bit too common. Desserts were super though, but at that moment we unfortunately had strong fish smell all over the restaurant. Also to be honest, I would suggest current ownership to delete ranking / reviews from previous owners and start from time of takeover.

Very good freshly prepared food. Wide range offer. The discovery menu is a very good idea for the first time there. The fish was very soft and the vegetables crunchy. They staff is super friendly and quick. If you know your way around spanish wine the selection is good, if not they'll be happy to counsel you.

Update: this review is for the chef Sebastian Roesch who was a chef here at the time of my visit. Dining at Mesa was the most profound culinary experience. We came here for a special occasion and had a 7-course tasting menu with wine pairing. The service was exceptional, everyone was professional and very friendly. The food was out of this world! Unexpected flavors and textures, combining ingredients in a unique way. Absolutely will be back!

We had the 5 course menu for 175 CHF per person. The food was absolutely average, one starter course was very good, the dessert was really bad, the rest was average. An absolute no go for the price. Service was good. Restaurant wasn't even half full on a Saturday evening. We have the impression that the positive reviews come from former Madrid audiences who want to please the Mesa Madrid owner.

I have visited twice now, and the food is absolutely fantastic. The food is on par with Michelin starred restaurants I've been to in Spain! That you can get such amazing Spanish seafood in Zürich is nothing short of miraculous.

From the warm welcome of the host, the quality of the food, the presentation of the individual dishes, the appropriate wine accompaniment to the digestif, an experience for all the senses. Unfortunately, I still don't know who the attractive guest in the restaurant was ;-).

Restaurant cancelled my booking, and claimed it was not them (which is a lie). After I show them the proof, all I get a "sorry". No bother to restore my booking and reply on the email that I am not welcome in his restaurant! If this is the best service you can offer, then I'd rather go somewhere else..weak

Wonderful in every way! The menus are prepared as if by magic and the freshness of the ingredients is a real treat for the palate! The chocolate cake for dessert topped it off, I've never had a better one! Was a disappointing experience overall. Firstly, to have items on the menu not available on a Saturday is not acceptable in my opinion. Many items are also extortionate e.g CHF 32 for 3 croquettas! Fish was also very bland and lacking flavour and depth despite good presentation. Also the restaurant didn't smell great but rather dated upon entry. + friendly staff.

The “Mesa” has experienced a parade of top chefs for around two decades. Now it is an offshoot of the well-known Spanish restaurant “Madrid” in the old town. We had lunch outside here a few weeks ago when it was still summer. It's not the ideal place for conversations; the tram rattling past nearby is very loud. The “Mesa Madrid” offers a classic three-course lunch menu for around 38 francs. A nice formula - and it's definitely worth the money. First I had a crisp, beautifully enriched lettuce, then a good piece of lamb and finally a “Postre” of the ideal size. But will the new Spaniards be able to build on the previous owners? The bar is set very high. Things don't seem to be going well (yet), we can observe this as neighbors. And the competition from restaurants offering fine Spanish cuisine is now quite fierce... But anyway: good luck!

5-course menu was really inventive and interesting. All of us greatly appreciated the evening - attentive staff, good food and wine. It's on the expensive side of the Zurich restaurant scene, but it's quite good.
