Very nice place with fine cuisine and extra hospitality, you have to get out of town to finally discover a real restaurant, it's just amazing, they come to show you the fish also a testimony of freshness and the dessert is careful and delicious. Really nice food with attentive service and romantic ambience. We dined a couple of times here and were never disappointed. I love the starters and the presentation and the risotto with truffle (which was a daily special) is delicious!

Well hidden near the cathedral in a steeply sloping pedestrian street.....public parking required either on the station side (at the top) or near the lake! You will have to choose the effort before or after the meal!

Food is consistently good. The staff is professional and quite attentive to dietary requirements. They’re also quick to serve, which makes it a suitable choice for a business lunch.

I took the octopus and it was good, too bad the portion was for an appetizer and not a second course. And later I had a pacchero with tuna and a pear reduction. The pasta was overcooked, bland and had a terrible flavour. I mentioned this to the waiter who looked at me very badly and left. In conclusion, I strongly advise against it. High prices, minimal portions, rudeness of the staff but above all the cuisine needs to be reviewed.

A nice place and good food. The wine cellar must be huge and so is the wine list. The service could be better. May be the guys are a bit tired from the busy summer season. So far so good. I only give one star because the check did not reflect the advertised prices from the menu. Almost half of the positions on the check were wrong or on the check but not ordered - Those guys must be really tired.

Explosion of flavors in a typical setting. Risorante Trani is a little gem in the streets of Lugano, we ate like kings there. The two waiters were extremely kind and attentive (they speak English perfectly in addition to Italian) and the atmosphere was very warm. The terrace on sunny evenings must be incredible. We had a tuna tartare as a starter which was very good. But it was during the main course that we enjoyed ourselves the most. The pasta (tuna/olive) and risotto (wild garlic/salmon) were divine. For dessert 🍮 the tiramisu was also a success. With 5dl of Merlot from Ticino and a bottle of water we paid 154.- for two people.

I heard a lot about Osteria Trani so it was a must go for me , actually i loved it , the food amazing… the tiramisu not bad but was a bit to juicy in coffee, and the upper part that seems as a biscuit cookie it was quite strong i mean hard to chew it . But my pasta , the service, the atmosphere was 10/10 .

Good table in an original setting, the outdoor tables being arranged in the pedestrian alley all made up of stairs. A colossal wine list as thick as Harry Potter's grimoire. A cuisine that is sometimes daring and sometimes beside the point (pun intended). Any dish can sit alongside a plate flirting with the molecular. Charismatic and generous boss... The dishes are very good but the service is very slow. 1h15 to have the first course... We were in the dining room, it's very noisy. The most pleasant moment was when we went out.

An unexpected pearl on the stairs of Lugano. The ravioli with veal and red wine sauce is the best pasta dish I have ever had (Wow!). The gnocchi dish was also perfectly executed. It was one of the first restaurants we saw on our way to downtown Lugano. First we went further but returned and did not know what to expect. Waiter was friendly and perfectly charismatic. The food was high class! Thank you Trani!

Unfortunately I was served a good Merlot, which unfortunately only became visible towards the end with a lot of sediment in the carafe... a NO GO... for an Osteria that also sells wine...!!!

Despite of a great wine list, their knowledge of wine is below expected: they do not know the difference between high quality and ordinary wines. They tricked us into paying way too much for a wine that wasn’t what we ordered:(

The Trani tavern is located on the steps leading to the Lugano Cathedral. The cuisine is particularly Mediterranean and of quality with well-presented products and dishes. The wine list is well stocked offering various labels from Swiss, Italian, French companies and much more.

I particularly liked the lasagne and ravioli.

Top notch restaurant, fast service and top notch meals. I recommend the tuna pasta with olive and the wild garlic risotto as well as the white chocolate cream and a chocolate cake for dessert. For two people with dishes and dessert we got for 80.-.

You won't be disappointed if you come to this restaurant. Everyone at our table had a fantastic meal and the Tomahawk steak was a particular highlight. The wine menu was extensive to put it lightly. The staff definitely knew their food and wine. Highly, highly recommended.

Quality food served with discreet plating, in an informal setting with a few too many tables. The wine served by the glass, even the prosecco (which would require a flute) could be better also considering the quantity and price. Polite staff.

Questionable attitude of the restaurant After a 30 minute stay we decided to get up and leave. Nice location and stylishly furnished. We were really looking forward to the Trani based on the reviews and were super happy to get a table without a reservation (unfortunately we didn't get around to it). Luckily there were only a few customers in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the waiter skillfully ignored us until we felt so uncomfortable that we left. After almost 30 minutes we didn't receive any water and couldn't place an order. The two tables next to us were served several times with wine, water, food, etc. It wasn't spelled out, but it was obviously because we looked average, unlike their other customers. Classy restaurant nice and good. But treating customers like that who behave decently, just because they may not seem “well-heeled” enough, is very questionable. Therefore clearly not recommended. There are plenty of other wonderful restaurants in Lugano that treat their customers equally with a lot of heart and charm.

Incredibly romantic and picturesque! Dinner was really fantastic for us. The wine suggested was so good that we bought another bottle the next morning. We will definitely eat here again on our next visit to Lugano. Of course the evening wasn't unbeatably cheap, but in my opinion it was worth every cent. We recommend.

Excellent Discreet and efficient service Fair price for Lugano

The food was excellent (we had salmon tartar, zucchini and goat cheese tart for appetizers, for main course octopus and secreto iberico (a pork dish) and for dessert pistachio mousse with raspberry sorbet). The staff was very nice and helpful. The atmosphere was great with light jazz music. We will be back.

Osteria Trani was the first restaurant where I ate in Lugano almost 18 years ago. Then, by one of those lucky coincidences, it was taken over by my friend Francesco and made a real leap in quality. The excellent food, the wine list too, the familiarity with which you are welcomed, everything combines to make guests feel at ease and want to return. I highly recommend everyone at least one visit but, at least in the summer period, to eat outside, as the lack of air conditioning would ruin your dinner

What a gem. This restaurant is built into the stairs on a quiet side street and run by a charming owner. Even though my Italian skills are limited he made every effort to help my plan my meal with wine by the glass pairings. The food was outstanding and the bill was less than I had expected given the quality of the food.

I came there 3 years ago and remembered it when I arrived in Lugano. Without reservation, they set up a small table for us outside! As I remember, the food is excellent, the price is very reasonable and my mother, a wine lover, had great pleasure in having a glass recommended for her dish. I would come back again and again!

The Ristorante Trani in Lugano is beautifully located. There is a great and cozy atmosphere - this is certainly also due to the architecture. The service is very friendly and accommodating. The food with wine accompaniment was very good. From the starter to the main course to the dessert, everything was just right here. We'd love to come back - thank you very much!

Intimate place on the steps of Lugano, welcoming staff, refined food and a very interesting wine list... the only flaw for me was the noise when the place filled up, but it's really a great place for dinners with friends.

Restaurant with excellent cuisine and service. We booked by phone at the last moment and arriving half an hour before closing there were no problems. The tables outside are arranged along the stairs, there is a bit of people coming and going, but not particularly disturbing; If desired, they also have space inside and rooms to reserve. We had a very good lunch and drank excellent wines by the glass. Correct prices for what is consumed. ---- We returned and I confirm that we still had a positive experience; this time I found the Ligurian sea bream tartare excellent!

The place is always very nice but I find it has dropped in quality. Today the aubergine parmigiana was really greasy, the pasta with ragù (good homemade pasta) very salty and the creme brûlee burnt, boiling cream, charred fruit and the sugar on top thick and burnt. Lunch time too long, almost an hour and a half. It's a shame, let's hope it's a coincidence because I had always enjoyed it very much and it was one of my favorites in Lugano.

We discovered this restaurant by chance for a lunch break, small menu (so fresh produce) We deliciously ate beautiful plates and flavors guaranteed when the efficient and discreet service basically what happiness we returned there last night to eat à la carte and it was GREAT 👍a big thank you to the team 🙏🙏and see you soon for sure 😉

Do not visit this place under any circumstances! The food is ok (at best) but the staff and owner are aggressieve and nasty people! They are happy to serve completely disgusting sub-standard food and drinks, but then refuse to take ANY responsibility. If you ask them about the poor quality, they threaten you and say they will call the police. This is the worst restaurant we have ever been to/ absolutely avoid at all costs and advise your friend to never ever go there. Anyone you hate- invite them to go there

This restaurant on the steps leading up to the station was a great discovery. A very kind manager makes us sit outside and the menu offers many inviting things. We mainly choose fish, fresh and well prepared. An excellent Adige wine, which can be drunk without problems. There is no room for sweets. Correct account. I'll be back.

Beef tartare was bland, had better ones. The highlight, however, was when the waiter/chef whatever brought dessert and said that the table would be reserved in 5 minutes and that he would bring us the bill straight away. Sorry, that doesn't work at all! You can also communicate the countdown in advance and then decide for yourself.

It's so great how the little tables are placed in the alley. And the food is excellent. The wine list is extremely select. Be sure to reserve!

This was a really lovely dinner in the centre of Lugano. We booked a week in advance and I'm glad we did, as there were so many people looking for a table. We were able to choose the best 2 person table outside and it truly is a very nice atmosphere sitting on the steps by low light. The service was very good, we tried our best to speak Italian, but there was an English speaking server who assisted us. I tried their raw prawn and burrata dish and it was just delicious! We really enjoyed the rest of the meal also, all very nice quality. The wine list is vast and has a great choice of local wines. I would very much reccomend this restaurant for a quiet evening dinner with authentic Italian food. Do make sure you book in advance though as there were no spare tables.

Very disappointing, on two occasions we were refused a table. Apparently there was no more room but there were free tables. We even tried to book, impossible, it's up to the customer! To avoid !

Wegen Corona konnte man nur draußen an Tischen auf der Treppe essen. Das war aber ebenfalls sehr nett. Die Lasagne war super! Beim zweiten Mal hatte ich Cannelloni, ebenfalls sehr gut, aber wohl die “Kinderportion”. Das Personal war äußerst freundlich. Reservierung ist empfohlen.

Based on the reviews here, I was looking forward to the Trani. However, it was a bit disappointing at the end. Staff is friendly. I ordered Thontartar as a starter. This was not seasoned, very bland. Afterwards I had ricotta cannelloni with brasato, which was also very bland. My daughter only had lasagna, she thought it was ok, I found it bland. My son also had the clay tartar first and then a fish, he liked both. The food was beautifully presented on the plates. The open Merlot was very tasty.

Erano anni che volevo provare questo ristorante molto caratteristico e le aspettative sono state soddisfatte. Gnocchi di zucca e secondo piatto fuori carta assolutamente spettacolare! Io non sono espertissimo di vino, ma ha una scelta veramente impressionante! Viene consegnato un libro enorme ed è veramente difficile districarsi tra la vastissima scelta... Non ho trovato molti posti con una scelta del genere, complimenti!

Excellent restaurant nous avons pris quatre plats différents et c’était vraiment délicieux. La carte n’est pas énorme mais les produits sont succulent.

Wir hatten einen schönen Päärliabend. Die Bedienung ist nett, könnte etwas aufmerksamer sein mit dem Nachschenken. Weinkarte Rist ein Traum, Rindsfilet war super, das Rindstartar war nicht so unser Fall (zu wenig fein geschnitten). Wir können das Resti aber ehrlich weiterempfehlen.

Nous sommes parti confiant au vu des commentaires trouvés sur ce site. Malheureusement ce fut une déception. A l'apéritif, deux verres de vin blanc sans accompagnement, en entrée une soupe du chef sans assaisonnement (commentaire entendu à des tables voisines), une terrine de gibier au goût indéfinissable. Comme plat principal des pâtes fraîches, mais à nouveau sans le moindre assaisonnement, idem pour le saumon. C'est dommage, l'endroit est très joli mais la cuisine manque sérieusement d'âme. Je n'y retournerai pas et je pense qu'il y a des adresses plus intéressantes à Lugano.
