Pinte Besson in Lausanne

I do not recommend this restaurant. The place is certainly historic but be careful not at all suitable for people with reduced mobility (very narrow, dangerous stairs). The staff is not very friendly and there was a mistake on my order. The waitress looked at me blankly as if I was a little limited when I received my dish which did not match the order. The meat was well cooked but the fries were soft and oily, very expensive for this dish. Around 9 p.m. they start to sort the bottles noisily and clean the tables of customers who have left as if they were going to close, so we just want to leave. The toilets were dirty and there was no more paper…

Historical place for a cheese fondue

Very very noisy with one person at the bar sorting bottles from Friday evening to Saturday lunchtime. No respect for his hosts who had calmly asked for less noise. 5cm nails for serving local dishes (we wonder what's underneath after cleaning at the bar), etc. If you go there, be already buttered, it will reduce the atmosphere, the smell and the trashy welcome.

One of the historical cafe of Lausanne with old fashioned but well maintained interior. It was interesting to climb to the second floor on the very narrow stairs :) We had the menu fondue tradition for 2, it's a complete set with dried meat platter and fondue moitié moitié with bread. The portion was not too big but it was enough when closed with the dessert included in the menu (meringues with double crème). It's a nice restaurant to eat typical Swiss food (they also have a nice papet Vaudois).

A great place! The staff is pleasant and friendly with customers. The food is delicious ! We loved the rösti and its garnish as well as the red wine and spice fondue.

Fun place to dine for fondue. There is not enough waiters. I felt sorry for the 2 waiters rushing about trying to serve everyone. It meant our dishes came quite slowly. We got a fondue and a rosti.

Unusual address in one of the oldest bistros in Lausanne. I admit to being a little disappointed with my dinner, we had the traditional fondue menu with a Grisson planchette (really very good and generous), as well as a traditional M-M fondue (really too salty) and to finish a double meringue cream. I'm still thinking of going back to see the other dishes.

They suggested I come here for a traditional fondue and for a more genuine experience of a historic place in Lausanne. Very easy to reach but booking is practically mandatory given that it is a famous place, in the center and with few seats. The girls were patient with my mom and me. Good experience!

It’s a nice place and the fondue is excellent but they advertise raclette on their website as well which is why we booked the restaurant only for them to tell us they don’t have it when we arrived. Bit disappointing as we were only in Lausanne for one day. In this digital age, having an updated menu and website is pretty important for tourists and it was a bit overpriced for what it was. Still if you’re looking for a fondue restaurant, I’d give it a go.

Highly recommend place when in Lausanne. I came here for fondue, I ended up having a desert too. Absolutely incredible, I can't fault it. Would happily come here again. Staff are lovely too.

We ate the game, Very good quality everything was fresh but the quantity of venison medallions for 47 fr. was thin, barely 90g on the plate, the service was poor, we asked about the quantity of meat and she certified that there was 180g, which is a shame, the homemade terrine accompanied by mixed greens was served with a game garnish but no mixed greens the waitress replied that it was like that

Perch fillets on the menu but dry. We ask the waitress for extra sauce and according to her instructions, we don't say it! Then we call the server who tells us no problems. He brings us the extra sauce but cold!!!!! Damage!!!! Not like before@

We ate game. Excellent. However, the desserts were good but not extraordinary. The cream puffs were too hard for my taste, the tarte tatin really very caramelized and the crème brûlée with chestnut cream was good but quickly sickening. Eating in the oldest bistro in Lausanne is quite nice but the staff really didn't have time to tell us its history. Although very friendly, the 2 waitresses had difficulty keeping up. The service was slow and you had to ask several times to get the wine you ordered or the dessert menu. We would have liked to be seated better. Wooden stools become very hard after 2 hours at the table. We nevertheless had a pleasant evening. THANKS

Good food, fairly small portion of fondue, nice decor BUT I would certainly have done without the small addition of almost 4 francs on the bill for a carafe of tap water. I don't know if it's legal or not but it's clearly an abusive practice.

We went looking for where to eat a good fondu, and without a doubt we found it, very good. Excellent service and super cozy restaurant.

The restaurant design in an ancient wine cellar, the food is delicious and the service is very good! Speaks English, Swiss prices are reasonable!

Went with a friend who was visiting, and we were both positively impressed by the beef. I asked for blue ribeye and it was really tasty, with the right amount (not much) of spices and great homemade fries. Had a fantastic fondue another time. Only problem was the table we were given (side to the wall, so not much space to eat). Still 5* as we didn't even ask to change it.

Swiss cuisine, Swiss meat and Swiss wine! A delight ! The sauces were creamy, the portions generous and the service perfect. Aperitif a bit expensive though.

The food is excellent (I recommend the pavlova for dessert!!) and the team is very nice!!!

I don't understand the negative comments. However, we are not easy customers or big customers and the whole team was able to adapt and welcome us and serve us with a smile and a good sense of humor. It’s rare to have service of this quality these days. Plus the dishes were super good. Excellent half-and-half fondue, expert words, perfect melting tomme salad, very good mountain rosti. Very beautiful and good board. All the dishes were beautiful and tasty. I already loved it before, I love it even better. A great team. Well done and definitely go try it for yourself, it’s worth it.

Despite the website mentioning that the kitchen closes at 10 pm, the waitress refused to serve us at 9.30 pm; so they may be good but apparently they either don't like foreigners or they like to close early?

We dined at this restaurant in early June. We ordered a Fondue and a platter of cured meats and cheeses... along with two 1-liter bottles of water. The food was average, although I found the Fondue to be quite acrid for my taste... but the most bitter thing to swallow was paying 20 euros for 2 liters of water in a country where water flows from every rock. Truly a bad negative note. I don't even pay that much for 2 liters of beer or wine!

Very good address in low season, the service is welcoming and fast. The half-and-half fondue for two is a marvel. The fresh ham pasta for the children's dish is succulent and arrives quickly. Big thank you to the waitresses who are welcoming and pleasant with the children! To do again.

Famous place in Lausanne for eating fondue, we tried it and it is worth the fame. However, the service was a little rude, that's why the 4 stars. If you want to visit here, it is better to book a table since it is always crowded.

The staff is efficient and friendly. The cuisine is excellent, the menu is made up of refined brasserie dishes. There are not many dishes which demonstrates a certain quality and the use of local products. The atmosphere is very friendly and warm, the lower room is made of stone and the upper one is made of wood, with a legendary staircase in the middle that you absolutely must see. This restaurant has existed since 1780 and is the oldest in Lausanne. You absolutely have to go there once to discover it.

What can I say, exceptional fondue, very welcoming place, kind and friendly staff. Difficult to find a place but absolutely worth it.

Restaurant in the center of Lausanne, with a nice setting and atmosphere. Offers very good Swiss and local dishes! The service was not very friendly and almost stole 80.- from us! We were also surprised that this restaurant, which offers local dishes, serves “Guaranteed Price” bread from the Coop.

The frame is in its original state. An old building. The fondue was delicious.

The dishes we tasted were delicious! The service is fast and efficient, the atmosphere in the restaurant was calm and comfortable. The decor adds to the experience! Remember to book, especially as the fondues are only served in the downstairs room.

I had the opportunity to dine in this magnificent little traditional restaurant, the welcome is warm, the staff is smiling and the food is excellent and the prices very affordable. Visiting and passing through Lausanne for a weekend, I do not regret my choice and highly recommend this place.

Lausanne is home away from home for me i guess. Was only in town for two nights .Amongst good friends who recommended this superb place. Festive vibe with excellent food and drinks. Stayed til midnight and didn't want to leave .. Magnifique

It was very difficult to communicate in English. Only one employee knew but basic level. The wine list is really limited and a lot of wines are out of stock. We got the most premium meat but it had a lot of fat and in general the quality was low. The service was extremely slow.

A fantastic place to eat an excellent fondue. The staff (María and Carlos) very professional, attentive and charming. I recommend the traditional menu for two or let them advise you according to your tastes.

Good atmosphere, solid old style food, and not over the top expensive for the location. Friends like to come here and I finally got to try it, and I will be back soon. If you want some light or trendy fare then head elsewhere.

The traditional half-and-half fondue is to die for! I would definitely like to come back :) It is also available for 1 serving which is very practical. The potatoes 1 serving for 2 people was enough. However, the fire is not strong enough to melt the fondue throughout the meal.

I went to Pinte Besson on 8th of June 2022 and I have an incredible time! I wanted to eat the authentic Swiss fondue and I was lucky enough to reach Pinte Besson! Apart from the delicious fondue, the wine was great (mainly the Calamin). I was served by Maria, who was incredibly nice! In few words, I couldn't have had a better evening :) So if you are in Lausanne, make yourself a favor and visit this lovely bistro!

Good food, delicious fondue demi-moitlé, but the one with morels doesn't taste like morels... And finally, decent green salads served in a big bowl! On the other hand, Lipton tea?!! How awful ! Make an effort and serve good tea, it's the minimum for such a place!

I had a fondue and a lovely board of cold cuts. I enjoyed everything but unfortunately it was too much for me so I couldn't eat the dessert which was included in the menu. The waitress was kind enough to take my glass of wine off the bill since I didn't get the dessert.

Very nice place, but a bit of a mixed meal, a hunt without spaetzle replaced by a vegetable/potato porridge (?). The Valais cut, 1 ball and barely watered at fr. 12.,- (!!!) Too bad and a very strict waitress!!!

As part of a legendary pint, you can enjoy excellent hunting (among other things). The homemade desserts are also killer.

Ah finally a typical restaurant. Tired of eating Turkish, Belgian, Italian... A good little restaurant where you stock up on cheese and fat. Fondue for 2 people, I opted for the cheese crust. You shouldn't count the calories but it was very good 😅
