The crepes with spinach and ricotta were absolutely inedible and visually offensive: Terrible!! There was also a salad included... this was "ok". However, the waiters were friendly. Lossesso: We won't come again.

Would not recommend. The waiter took forever to take our very simple order or 3 ice creams when the restaurant was not even full. After bringing 2 of the ice creams, the waiter says there is one flavor missing for the last one, no problem we change it. Comes after 5 minutes with the last one. Then like 2 minutes afterwards comes with the bill for us to pay? We were still eating seated and she came with the bill, also happened to the ladies next to us. Just do not come. I should have been more cautious reading the reviews. On my receipt there is the name of the waiter in case the restaurant wants to do anything about it.

Sunny late autumn day at midday on the terrace. Brasato with polenta tasted very tasty. Wine recommendations from the Maggia Valley went wonderfully with it. Afterwards enjoyed a delicious dessert. Service pleasant and courteous.

Unfortunately, they forgot the meat in the homemade lasagna. For lasagna sheets with some tomato sugo for Fr. 19.50 😒 The cheese sauce on the penne was also very thin and unfortunately without cheese! Everything was very careless, including the service!

Negative experience. I ask for an iced coffee and the unfriendly and rude waitress brings me an iced latte... No excuses. I won't go back and I absolutely don't recommend it.

Inadequate and snooty: Because we were guests of the two "Punkies" two years ago and we actually had fond memories of Al Portico, we went to dine there again four days ago. This time it was moderate, the red wine Merlot Ronco Angelo vintage 2018 was already over (too old). Strange that there are no vintages listed for the wines on the “wine list”. So you quickly get the impression that some "antique" vintage is being foisted on you depending on your mood. After tasting, when I commented that the wine was too old, the boss just said "it just needs some air now". The head waiter then gave himself some breathing room over the coffee and bill, which were brought much too late. When I wanted to round up the amount from CHF 139.50 to CHF 142.-, he typed "fatiamo CHF 145.-" into the credit card machine, almost singing. It's a shame, it's become so dubious there.

Friday night is a great evening to visit. Music in the Piazza Grande, great atmosphere and lovely food.

I was there often to get some quick, cheap and good food. That means if you're late without reservations. No problem you can get a place in the Portico. Pizza lasagna roast beef plate mussels or fish is good bourgeois if you don't set your expectations too high. This time too I went home with a thank you and good luck.

We stopped for an aperitif with 6 of us and we were only brought drinks as appetizers, a couple of pieces of mediocre quality pizza (too salty), which seems a bit small to me for 6 people. 6 CHF for a bottle of water, the frozen hamburger costs 14.50 CHF (a la carte price) plus, a pleasant little surprise, 2 CHF for the burger bun. Soulless place. It is possible to eat better and for less in the nearby supermarket. You have been warned.

Service as well as the food are excellent. Even though there was a lot going on, we were always served in a very friendly manner without feeling like we were being handled. We would love to come here again and I can highly recommend the restaurant and all of its employees.

We stopped at this place because our friends chose it. I saw ratings and was very cautious with food selection. My bf ordered pizza, was eatable but the ingredients were cheap, I ordered tomato basilica and was very disappointed - I never ate such a tasteless tomatoes put on piece of old cabbage.. i only can confirm the overall rating.

We burst out laughing when we saw the burger arriving which looked like it had come straight from the freezer: No tomatoes or salad. The sauce and cheese were encrusted in the bun like a Charal burger. The steak was just as industrial, you'll find the same at Subway. The fries are tasteless and the vegetables served with them are frozen: rubbery, cold inside and squeaky to the bite. It was clearly not worth the price indicated. The service was friendly (hence the second star). However, they insistently beg customers right there. In short, don't go there.

Very tasty and generously topped pizza, impeccable Caffe grande corretto Emilia Romagne. The service is attentive but not intrusive. The Lunch Check Card is accepted here. The restaurant is only about 500m from the train station, on Piazza Grande. Recommended!

Had to wait like 2h and the food didnt even taste good

Ordered schnitzel fries as daily menu. The schnitzel was inedible. Greasy fried worst quality meat. An absolute no go. I don't think the chef would have eaten it himself either. The waiter wasn't interested in my criticism! Not recommended!

The tuna salad was bottom drawer! Carelessly prepared and with ready-made salad sauce. As a chef I would be ashamed to publish something like that! The service was friendly.

This restaurant doesn't even deserve 1 star, it's a disaster from A to Z! Ordered menus were brought incorrectly or not at all. The Cordon Bleu we ordered was still raw, the cheese was rock hard and cold (frozen). The Ticino plate was terrible...smelly meat, old and dried out and rock-hard old bread, not edible!!! The vegetable plate was equally terrible, hard vegetables with no taste. There were 9 of us and none of the menus we ordered deserve 1 star. After our feedback/complaint and the request for the bill, a plate of frozen schnitzel and fries was placed on the table without asking, and the service employee shouted "Mamma mia" X times! However, none of us had any appetite for a dish from this “kitchen”! Even the beer was gone... with a thick, grayish head of foam. Last but not least, the bill was too high, incorrect menus and menus that were not delivered were charged. DON'T EAT THERE, it couldn't be worse!!!

Had dinner inside the restaurant. The waitress seemed friendly at first but then turned out to be rude. 2 dishes out of 5 arrived wrong, and instead of fixing it he rather insisted that we had made the mistake. Unacceptable behavior, especially with the fact that there were no apologies! Although having ruined dinner for two people, they weren't even offered coffee. In all this the food was satisfactory both in quantity and quality. However, we absolutely need to improve cleaning: my glass was dirty!

We chose this place for the view it offers on Piazza Grande in Locarno. Unfortunately the staff proved to be not at all helpful and polite.

Long waiting times. The homemade lasagne turned out to be a failure as it was almost just leaves and no filling. Food came staggered every 10 minutes. Bad for a restaurant on the Piazza Grande.

We came here spontaneously looking for a good meal. We weren't disappointed. The service was very friendly, personable and accommodating. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a good Italian. Basic cuisine without artificial frills. If you're looking for a fancy restaurant with a sterile atmosphere, you're definitely in the wrong place here. There are other locations around. We like to go where you feel among people/locals. So here 😊

Although some of the food (tagliatelle were good, the salad was hardly seasoned) wasn't that bad, we wouldn't come here again because the waitress was extremely unfriendly. She was apparently annoyed that we didn't speak Italian and she didn't understand English or German. This also meant that instead of Spritzte Weisse (white wine spritzers), we got some kind of sweetened drink. Your manner spoiled our mood a bit, which is a shame.

Fast service and friendly. They didn't know English, but we managed. The pizza was GREAT, they tried to scare me with chili when they found out I'm Nordic etc. (diavola) The bottom is crispy on the edges and the tomato sauce or salami has a little chili. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is maybe a bit fluorescent-like, but I can eat outside again. The pizza was so good and I was so hungry that I didn't take a picture. The price level is normal for the area, i.e. expensive. I'll come again.

Ate good brassato several times but yesterday the brassato was not edible, meat was greasy, there was a tomato puree and the polenta was like paste, the porcini mushrooms were frozen, watery and cold, just like the whole meal was an imposition. Despite a complaint, everything was charged in full - an outrageous price for the inedible food. The service was very nice but we will not visit this restaurant again.

Very nice-looking dishes were sometimes prepared with broken ingredients, like my friends'. Two of my friends have Santimbocca vit. Ordered Romana - CHF 37.50 per portion - not a little! The sauce tasted artificial, very floury. Surprise came shortly afterwards when we left the restaurant. Both had to go to the toilet several times with severe stomach pain. Instead of visiting the city in the evening, we stayed in the hotel room because there were toilets nearby.

I'm still kind to put one star. In truth I didn't eat anything since after 1 hour and a half I didn't receive anything and when my dish arrived it didn't correspond to the description on the paper and had been left to heat for at least 30 minutes under the plate warmer....

We ate at Portico twice and each time it was delicious. They are even very familiar with gluten-free, and I can only recommend it for those affected by celiac disease.

I wouldn't go anymore. The chicken on the fitness plate was not fresh and was hard like the sole of a shoe. The pizza base charred. The 2 stars are because the Greek salad, which had a long hair on it, was replaced immediately. (The salad with the hair was on the buffet in plain sight so you could be sure there was a fresh salad)

Unbelievable pizza! We had portico and gambetti. One of the best pizzas we have even eaten!!! And also very friendly price around 19-21 euro. Beautiful location. We waited ca 30min which is good time as for Switzerland. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We stopped to eat a few days ago, the only nice thing is the Piazza Grande, for the rest, dirty tablecloths from the day before and with obvious stains of oil, sauce and so on, low quality food, miserable portions, long waiting times even though there were only a few of us, a very shabby interior and prices that were exaggeratedly high in relation to the quality, the only happy note found in the staff, kind and qualified, but those dirty tablecloths should have been noticed and changed. To publish this post I had to give one star, but they don't even deserve that. Place to absolutely avoid.

Looking for somewhere to eat at an affordable price for students on Grande Piazza, we went by chance to this “restaurant”. This dinner was supposed to be a celebratory meal to celebrate the end of our trip, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. Barely seated, an unremoved cup was still lying on the table, then the waiter, no doubt in a hurry, dropped my friend's cap violently on the ground, brushing against our table. This incident in itself was not serious and we were ready to forget it to enjoy our dishes which arrived, it must be said, with little wait. 3 pizzas and pene carbonara, that doesn't seem very complicated, but for Portico it is. Let's start with the pizzas, they were just pathetic. Some frozen pizzas are more appealing than those on our plates. The 4 cheese looked like a marguerita, it wasn't even possible to distinguish the different types of cheese. To compare, the pizza bought at the kebab shop at Locarno station was a masterpiece compared to it. The flavors weren't there either. The worst was the carbonara. Simply filthy. Before even tasting them, we had to ask for the Parmesant cheese ourselves, even though it is inseparable from these legs. The waiter then took a bowl of parmesant which had just been cleared from another table, and was therefore a third full. The legs were full of oil and lacking in salt. As for the sauce itself, it was impossible to say what it was made of. I actually got bloated after forcing myself to finish the dish. In conclusion, there are plenty of other pizzarias on this square. Run away from this one, she's ruining our evening. I think this restaurant is really wasting its potential, which annoys me even more. There is a huge amount of work to be done to live up to the prices displayed on the menu.

My salmon tagliatelle came unsalted and lukewarm. When I sent it back, it came back reheated (probably microwave) but still lukewarm and unsalted. When I told the waiter, he got annoyed and walked away, leaving me to eat lukewarm pasta dripping in oil…

Me and my girlfriend expected an acceptable meal given the location of the restaurant. However, we were served very poorly and the food was probably the worst thing I have ever eaten in my life, this borders on bodily harm! The salad arrived after just 2 minutes and when we wanted to finish eating it, the “main course” arrived. The gnocchi with pesto and arugula were swimming in fat and it was a mess. I couldn't eat this insult to Italian cuisine. My friend's tortelloni with cream sauce had no taste and the cream sauce already had a skin and was cold. These foods made both of us sick! When we complained, the waiter offered us coffee because we didn't want it. We just wanted to get away from this horror house. PS: I'm 100% sure that everything is simply heated in the microwave.

I ordered tiramisu. It was a very small portion for 10 CHF and didn't taste good. The sides of the dessert were dry to hard from sitting around for so long. Is worth about 2 CHF. Banana split was also a disappointment. No chocolate sauce with it.

Terrible service, a sunny day is enough to fill a terrace to have the worst of the worst. And the icing on the cake, spaghetti with clams still with the elastic band of the clams (hoping it's that!) on the plate. I mean, I say, cooking it, how can you not notice? Visiting Locarno with my girlfriend we stopped in this place for a quick lunch. The course chosen by both, a risotto accompanied by a typical local sausage, was an absolutely anonymous dish with no flavour. No complaints if it hadn't been for the high bill due above all to the price of half a liter of house wine, served in bulk, paid €35.00. In short, for two of us, we paid €85! To eat badly and be made fun of! Absolutely avoid.

Friendly service, but one of two menus was forgotten. And that with little activity. The lasagne was not very tasty, perhaps even a ready-made product. The galzone was good. Will visit a different restaurant next time.

Terrible restaurant. We waited 30 minutes for the drinks and appetizers. Waiters and kitchen totally overwhelmed and that in the off season. 2 children got the food with the starters, the 3rd child had to watch them eat for 30 minutes, after we said something it went on for another 15 minutes. Another 15 minutes: 2 adults could eat together, the other 2 got their food when everyone else was finished. My food was cold and had to go back to the kitchen. Ready-made salad dressing, frozen vegetables, frozen cordon bleu. Absolutely crazy! After my complaint we at least got the coffee for free. No more!!!

Were there two evenings in a row. Pizza, lasagne, ravioli, salad and cappuccino were great. Unfortunately, the risotto is a bit bland and the spaghetti carbonara is drowning in a sauce that, in my opinion, tastes far too much like egg yolk, which is a shame.
