Amazing terrace, without the noise of main street. Relaxing atmosphere. Tasty food and coffee. Quick and friendly service. Place for hangout (less for super special food). Will come again!

Food wasn’t good. The starters were okay but not worth the price, the mains we got were very basic and lack flavour and not worth the price as well. I agree with another reviewer here that the pizza looked/tasted like it was frozen pizza. The outdoor seating doesn’t have a heater for the cold weather but we did get 1 blanket between the 2 of us. Waiter was decent but not exceptional, when it came to pay he asked how much to add for the tips. We left not really satisfied with our meal. Maybe only okay for a quick coffee as there were several people that were doing this but not for eating.

Excellent place both inside and outside, varied portfolio, very comfortable tables and chairs, friendly service, appropriate waiting times, very balanced flavors in both the main dish, appetizers and desserts. Lugano, Switzerland.

During my stay in Lugano Paradiso for a week, on June 2023, I attended a medical congress. Although the hotel was disappointing, I discovered a pleasant café-ristorante called Retro Tivoli just across the street. The café had a relaxed and lounge-like atmosphere, with comfortable seating on the terrace offering a side view of the lake. The large tables were stylishly set, and the background music added to the relaxing ambiance. The cuisine at the café consisted of a mix of Italian and Mediterranean Swiss dishes. The starters were delicious, representing the flavors of both regions, while the main courses included clean cooked pasta, pizzas, and appropriate main dishes. The restaurant's approach to food was straightforward and without unnecessary frills, resulting in a satisfying dining experience. After the disappointment of the city on three other evenings, my colleagues and I decided to return to the café Ristorante on our last evening. It turned out to be a lovely way to bid farewell to Lugano. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for both coffee breaks and lunch during the day and dinner at night I must further highlight the exceptional service I received at the café Ristorante. Unfortunately, I misplaced my new AirPods Pro Max between the street and the restaurant terrace on the last evening. When I informed the restaurant about the situation and shared the Apple search location, they went above and beyond to search for my lost item. To my surprise and delight, they managed to find and return my AirPods. I am incredibly grateful for their efforts and will always look forward to returning to this restaurant whenever I am in town. In summary, my experience at the café Ristorante in Lugano Paradiso was a delightful contrast to the disappointing hotel stay. The restaurant provided a relaxed atmosphere, tasty cuisine, and friendly service. Its dedication to customer satisfaction, as demonstrated by their efforts to find and return my lost AirPods, further enhances my recommendation of this establishment.

I was at the end of the month exactly on 30.11 for an aperitif at 7.00pm, it was sad! Aperitif served with nothing, not even a chip and then the waiters not even a greeting. This morning I came back for a coffee break and it's a completely different thing, a very smiling waitress who says hello and with a beautiful smile. What I don't get is how the restaurant's owner, I presume (signore Matteo?), thinks it is fine to make a video call with his daughter in high volume, so that everyone around, including us, can hear her high pitch voice and their conversation, and also clearly see her on the phone if we happen to look at the entrance, where he was sitting. How disrespectful! Also, even though our card worked fine everywhere else in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France (etc), here it mysteriously didn't work and we had to pay in cash (funny, I also heard the waiter whispering to his boss that someone else had also payed in cash... There were still enough free tables and the dissatisfaction with the fact that we arrived without a reservation was extremely strange! German or any other language was not spoken like Italian. However, this is also surprising, because they are in a tourist city and a large number of German-speaking tourists vacation in Lugano. The menu on the site was even in Russian and the site language could also be changed to Russian, German, or English. Therefore, we expected that we would be understood, it’s good that my husband speaks a little Italian. The menu was brought to us in Italian, although they promised it would be in German. Only after asking to bring another language did we receive the required menu. A surprise awaited us here too. The menu that we looked at on the website and what we received do not match! Why should you mislead your potential clients?! Prices are a separate issue, they are very high here, but we chose based on the menu we saw and of course the new one did not pleasantly surprise us. We asked for pizza for two, again the waiter was not happy. We had a hearty lunch at another restaurant and simply couldn’t eat much for dinner. The pizza itself was very tasty. Compliments to whoever prepared it. They even cut it into two parts for us, which was nice. The dessert was great too. To be fair, the food here is good. But the service ruins everything. Attractive atmosphere, centrally located, fast service BUT the quality of the dishes in no way corresponds to the prices asked there. Unfortunately, a pizza a la retro was neither convincing due to its tough base nor the taste-neutral toppings. The crowning glory of the list of ingredients was 1 lonely basil leaf. The amount of wine on offer was also extremely manageable, which was probably just 150ml Cup with 2 teaspoons of espresso won't save anything.

I ordered the pasta with king crab legs and lobster tail. A 50€ dish. It was good. But… no lobster. I tried to show it to the waiter, but she didn’t speak English and took my plate away when I was done. Asked a lady that looked more like management/owner that claim that the kitchen probably misunderstood my order. I literally pointed at the menu to show what I wanted. I used google translate to be able to read the menu. I made no extra requests whatsoever. The guy that took our order was great, spoke English well, but he was gone when I noticed the lobster tail missing. It’s a real shame this restaurant tried to somehow make it my mistake. I don’t mind paying 50€ for a lunch, but when the lobster is missing it’s pretty much overpriced.

The veal paillard was an absolute joy to eat. Everything was clean and staff was very quick to react and friendly. Depending on where you sit, you actually get a nice view on the lake too.
