Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau

After a long time of waiting, we were able to enjoy the excellent cuisine of Mr. Caminada and his team for the first time last week. If you want to experience perfectionism in gastronomy, then you have to go to SchlossSchauenstein.

The newly opened OZ restaurant in SchlossSchauenstein is an extremely successful location with a relaxed, family atmosphere where crazy vegetarian creations are conjured up live at the counter, fresh from the garden!

We had a wonderful weekend, a dream that came true. It was fantastic - from A to Z. Courteous, nice, familiar, professional - you can tell the passion from the service, to the kitchen, to the reception. We were even allowed to look at the kitchen. Hammer!

It couldn't be better! Simply more than perfect from start to finish. Culinary cannot be topped. Every course is simply exquisite and the wine accompaniment is excellent. The service and the entire staff are simply excellent. The food is simply great and leaves nothing to be desired. The only deduction for the overnight stay: we didn't sleep so well there twice... there are probably still ghosts there 🤷🏻‍♂️😉 maybe a little bad luck... but the breakfast was definitely worth it... here again: the hosts are simple exceptionally attentive 🥰… we'll be back!

Schauenstein Schloss is a fairytale story in an old charming castle in Fürstenau, the smallest town in the world. Surrounded by the majestic Swiss Alps, Chef Andreas Caminada created a unique Three Michelin Stars culinary experience. This is the pinnacle of dining in Switzerland and Europe. It was ranked No. 40 World’s Best when I made my reservation and jumped to No. 26 at the time we checked in. They kept the historical and architectural character of the castle with some modern touches on the interior that set the mood for a relaxing dining extravaganza. They have few suites you can stay at in the castle for the full experience which you have to reserve way in advance. The journey starts with small bites and aperitivo at the terrace with captivating mountain views or at their lounge on the second floor in the winter with a cozy fireplace. They have 2 main dining rooms, paneled with oak and simply decorated yet elegant to keep the focus mainly on courses during the night. Ambience was intimate, warm, cozy and romantic. Service here was impeccable and immaculate. Staff at the restaurant and the castle were all professional, courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond for any requests. Cuisine was modern Swiss with some innovative techniques. They used fresh & local ingredients rather than expensive and fancy ones. Food and flavors were dynamic and truly exceptional, I was impressed through the night. Courses were plated and presented nicely, a satisfying sight before the bite. They provided a post card of some sort with each dish as a memory and a booklet that contained the menu items and courses with some introductory history about the Castle and Fürstenau. Highlights of the night for us were the Beef with Beetroot, Gyoza Duck, Pike Perch with cucumber and Lamb with Yogurt & Ezme. Desserts were good but nothing spectacular or creative as what you expect from a 3 starred restaurant. Wine pairing is highly recommended and complimented courses very well. They take pride of using some fine local Swiss wine. We tried the non alcoholic pairing as well which was a treat that’s not too sweet, prepared well like craft cocktails. Overall, an experience to cherish and remember… We shall return one day.

We stayed in one of the really nice suites at the castle, and had an amazing dining experience. The food overall was amazing with lots of varying and exciting taste experiences. The castle itself is in a really nice, quiet, and picturesque location, and the staff is super friendly and attentive.

Great experience! And while I could go on forever about the wonderful food which enchanted us, it is the whole atmosphere of this place which makes it outstanding: the interior design, the art, the music, the service. It is a place filled with history and splashes of pop art; what is else can you possibly ask for? And while every dish was amazing, it is a special shout out I need to give to the appetizers, mostly vegan, which were incredible - I never knew sauerkraut can be unforgettable :) Hats down to the Caminadas for what they have created here!

We had an absolute incredible experience at Schloss Schauenstein. The service was absolutely outstanding throughout. We arrived on Friday afternoon with a overnight booking. The rooms are marvelous and the whole area of the property is very nice. The food was top notch, alltough i must say that if i only had to judge the food without the surroundings like service, ambiance, location, etc, i would feel that it was a tad overpriced as i had comparable/equal quality menus for a lot less. Nevertheless, we got to meet and chat with the chef, an amazing and very charismatic person, which even had his sous-chef give us a tour of the kitchen. Overall it was outstanding & deserves it's reputation as best restaurant of Switzerland.
