Very good food, especially the fake snails. However, good service is almost more important than the food. The staff are super attentive and nice. The good atmosphere among the team is clearly noticeable.

We came to this restaurant after looking at the reviews during our 2-day trip to Basel, and we loved it. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was delicious, and they were very helpful even though we didn't have a reservation. We would gladly choose it again…

Restaurant manager(I assume he was) who was wearing blue shirt when we were there, was quite a bit racist. He told us that our English is hard to understand just because we are Turkish. I am pretty sure that I spoke clear and mostly I couldn't understand what he says. Even if he were a brilliant English speaker, he has no right to criticize me. I am a customer. And I deserved to be treated like that. Also the atmosphere was horrible. It was too loud. And some people were nosey. I believe that is not about the place but I wanted to mention it because, people like me may also not like it. Because of my experience was not well I didn't want to leave a tip. And I also didn't want to wait for 0.30 CHF, I left a 100 CHF and headed to the exit. And the person who took the check from us made fun of us because he thought we left 0.30 CHF tip. And he didn't leave it there, he also talked this about to the next table. Other than that food was good. But sometimes as a tourist you need a comforting place more than delicious food.

Even though we went 2 hours before closing time, they turned us away saying the kitchen was closed. We were very surprised by this attitude, if your kitchen closes earlier, you should update the closing time accordingly.

Overpriced for the taste. And patronizing service. We were condoned that we are not from mainland europe and we aren't aware of the restaurant habits since we wanted to order a starter and a main course for two people. Later we were asked if we knew how to eat fondue which: dipping bread crumbs in molten cheese.

You just feel very well looked after. As a regular guest you belong to the “Schnabel family”. Service 🔝. One of the last, true “Basel restaurants”. Visit recommended👍👋

Had a reservation, everything went smoothly and the welcome was super friendly, super friendly service, food was on the table in less than 6 minutes, for everyone and the quality was excellent! Better good bourgeois food difficult! Recommended! 👍🏼

We ate for the first time in this restaurant, on the ground floor, where the servers were super friendly. The second time, we had not booked and asked if there was still a table for two. The waiter motions for us to follow him upstairs and places us at a table for 4 people. The second server then tells us that two other customers may come and sit at the same table as us. We politely responded that we don't necessarily want to be sitting at the same table with people we don't know. The waiter replied: “Have you made a reservation? No ! You can therefore leave the table if it does not suit you, other customers will take your place. » What a way to talk to customers…. In short, we stayed and the food was good but the behavior of the waiter needs to be reviewed!

Classic Basel Beitz, recommended!

The ‘down town’ rosti (with veal) was so delicious, absolutely out of this world! We also tried the fondue which was amazing, too. Would visit again if I’m ever in Basel. :)

The visit to Schnabel was great. Motivated and attentive staff, very fine food and a friendly boss! The fake snails are highly recommended. The price/performance ratio is also right.

The restaurant has typical and comfortable traditional Swiss decor; However, I would like to highlight the pistachio creme brulee which is delicious!!

We were a family of 8 people including a 5 year old child, we were received by very friendly and very professional staff! The meal was delicious (different dishes), in a good "brasserie" atmosphere... it was perfect! We look forward to a future visit!

My friend was rudely pushed to the side with the chair so a woman could walk through instead of asking politely. There was also a stupid comment made about not enough tips...😕

This restaurant is one of the oldest and most traditional places in Basel. Excellent Swiss cuisine and the service was great! You can feel the Fasnacht spirit with the beautiful lanterns on the walls. The waiters were very attentive. We started with the delicious Fondue and then ordered main dishes for dinner. We tried the Falschi Schnägge, pumpkin ravioli with white wine sauce and the wild salad. All tasted great!! Highly recommended and will be visiting again soon. Make sure to reserve your table as the restaurant gets fully booked quickly.

Today we visited the Schnabel restaurant for the first time in Basel. Very good cuisine, friendly staff and humorous owner. It's worth eating there.

Great restaurant, food with a twist and tradition, service: older and experienced employees are happy to be there, you can tell. After an excellent meal, the young employee who collected the money neither thanked us for our tip nor said goodbye. Not a word. It's a shame, this spoiled our dining experience at the end.

Great ambience, fast service, great service and food

To my surprise, the menu included a wonderfully prepared sausage and cheese salad. I've never had anything so good with a menu dish. Come back. Ambiance outside, that's it.

The food was good but not great and served well. However, I was charged for unconsumed drinks, which I only found at the airport, whereupon I complained via email with no response. I just hope it was an oversight and not a commercial strategy for tourists.

Delicious and traditional Swiss fare. Excellent outdoor atmosphere. The falsche schnecken and the hazelnut creme brulee were a hit with my group. In a word: fantastic!

Typical traditional Basel pub with specialties such as “false snails”. At lunchtime there is a menu with salad and, if you want, dessert. The selection of beers is very minimal and doesn't keep up with the times. You can find it good or bad, not everyone has to keep up with the times! But there is still Maggi on the table, which you miss with others. But the highlight are the waiters, they are clearly the funniest and best waiters in Basel. Always have fun, so eating becomes an experience.

Don't eat here or be warned: the waiters will yell at you when you don't tip them.

Okay. So do yourself a favour and get the fake snails. So if there are two of you. One get 12 and the other get six and so you both get 9. It's the kind of meal that stays with you. Lingers. Like an ex you can't get over but really really loved. And didn't appreciate how good what you were putting in your mouth was at the time. Its incredible. Service. Seating. Food. Forget the asparagus soup. Unnecessary. Just get the fake snails and thank me later

We were there with friends, the atmosphere was very warm.

An arrogant waiter, arrogant! Shrimp cocktail for 17.- served carelessly and really very small! Onion soup was ok. I told him that wasn't enough for me. The young waiter didn't respond at all and got upset and made noises! Then we got up and left the restaurant. The glasses were full but the mood to continue eating was on the floor. Paid the 51.— and went out. The waiter called out, I've been here for 12 years!! I don't really care. Arrogance is a no go! Schade was in the mood for the wrong snails, they would be a specialty there.

This classic Basel Fasnacht spot is located right in the heart of the city, offering good, traditional cuisine at a reasonable price. You can conveniently pay with debit and credit cards, as well as cash. However, please note that the venue is not wheelchair accessible and due to its central location, there are no parking spaces available in the surrounding area. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and you don't have to eat - you can simply enjoy a drink if you prefer. I highly recommend trying the "Down Town Rösti," but make sure to order it with less sauce or even better, ask for the sauce to be served separately. Otherwise, you might find your dish overwhelmed by the Café de Paris sauce. Other menu highlights include the Wurstsalat (sausage salad) and the delicious Lamm-Racks (lamb racks). Overall, this spot is a must-visit for a genuine Basel experience! Just make sure to plan for parking or use public transportation to get there.

I used to be a regular at the Schnabel several years ago. Now there are more and more people there because of the cuisine, which is home-style and good. I can only recommend it, the service is always very nice. Many of the employees have been there for many years, which is a good sign.

Everything was great! Asparagus Risotto, Meat Cubes with Garlic Sauce, the Sausages, and the vegetables… woah! Definitely recommend 5/5

Perfect last meal in Switzerland! Got the Rosti and it was a delicious classic dish. Served with fresh bread. Located in old town, can be a hilly climb, but well worth it.

One of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in the middle of Basel's beautiful old town with home-style cuisine. Cozy, relaxed and rustic atmosphere. Delicious food served by competent and attentive service staff, always ready for a bit of fun. Very friendly and warm hostess. My personal recommendation is the false snails (baked pieces of beef fillet). Public transport at the market square, 5 minutes walk.

Fantastic Züri Geschnetzeltes, great service

The schnitzel and cordon bleu are soaked in oil. The mayo and ketchup were thrown at us. There was no special seasoning for fries, so the fries were also a disappointment. We wanted to get out quickly because the live Piccolo music from the first floor was wrong and extremely loud. The waiter said when we asked for the bill, "so fast?" I explained to him that the music was very loud. He asked me dismissively if I was Swiss, because that was part of my culture. What does this deafening culture have to do with me? Still allowed to bother me. Empathy is probably a foreign word in this restaurant.
