Great restaurant in Bern at the Hülsenmätteli on the Aare. There is always enough parking space. Magnificent romantic outdoor area with the impressive rushing water of the Aare. I really like the inside too. The milk coffee and tea were very good. And also the service, attentive, courteous and very friendly. Thank you very much😊

We wanted to go out for dinner at 5:30 p.m. yesterday and were then directed to the bar tables, although various set tables were not reserved. We were probably not welcome with our two dogs (well behaved and quiet). Afterwards we skipped the food and left again. Will avoid the restaurant in the future.

The location and service here are great, but the food is just okay. I think that this is really a nice place to come for the atmosphere.

Sunday brunch is highly recommended. a super pleasant atmosphere and the service to match.

Lovely place in Bern that is probably even better in summertime. We went here for a business dinner with about 14 people. Service was a bit slow and the kitchen took about an hour to serve us the starters. It also took a while to get the orders in general. The staff is friendly but doesn't seem to understand English very well which made it a bit difficult to our guests. The food was tasty and nicely displayed. I especially enjoyed the wine. Luckily we had someone who knew about wines and ordered for us. He did ask the service about the local wines but they were not trained on this apparently. I really liked the interior.

Basically “ok”. But not enough for the price of CHF 55.00. Especially with the egg dishes... no omelettes, no poached eggs, no Eggs Benedict. Quality of hash browns and bacon was poor for the price, not a bit of crunch. Cheese selection.. We are in Switzerland with very good different types of cheese. But here again the average porridge with Tilsiter and Gruyère and other standard items. As I said, it would be good for 30.00, but a lot is missing for 55.00.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Fonduehütte Hülsenmätteli restaurant right on the Aare and my experience was entirely positive. The ambience of the cabin was extremely cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing evening with friends or family. We chose the meat platter and the fondue, and both dishes did not disappoint. The meat platter was plentiful and of excellent quality. The fondue was creamy and flavorful, just as it should be. The staff also deserve praise for their excellent service. They were attentive, friendly and made sure our needs were always met without being intrusive. Overall, my visit to the Hülsenmätteli fondue hut was a real pleasure. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food in a charming atmosphere right on the Aare.

We eat here with my friends the serveur man Andre was very kind and nice but the lady was not professional she brought us all food together and we ask first plate start and after the rest but not speak well other language and how she served the prosecco was horrible and better not continue my comment

Had an absolutely terrific time authentic freshly breaded, fish (fresh caught perch), and chips‼️ A great wine blend, fantastic, red, juicy, robust, thick, aromatic fruit forward with a very glossy smooth finish. Loved this whole experience.

In itself a very nice restaurant but unfortunately the service and prices are simply inadequate for what is on offer. We ordered very fine cocktails, but the tarte flambée were dry and simply too expensive for 25.-. Ice cream ordered afterwards cost 4.00 per scoop. I asked for chocolate sauce and ended up having to pay 10.90 for a scoop of ice cream, sauce and cream because it would be a “coupe danmark”. I left over 50 francs for half a “snack meal”. A pity.

I don’t recommend to go there if you don’t speak Swiss German. We made a reservation for Sunday Jan 14th at 21:00. we saw that there are possible reservation slots till 21:30 and that the restaurant is open till 23:00. we chose this restaurant because we hoped to spend a nice evening and have dessert and coffee after the meal. At 21:36 (as we were having the main course), the waiter comes to tell us that the kitchen is closed and we can no longer order dessert. We were surprised and explained that wasn’t our expectation since they close at 23:00. The manager explained that „ in Europe that’s how it happens and other details about their internal process at the restaurant. What I would have wished for : 1. the waiter could have warned us before the kitchen closes to order dessert (instead of telling us after the fact) 2. they were upfront about their variable closing time (they didn’t have other customers so decided to close) 3. the manager didn’t gaslight us that our evening was cut short because we didn’t understand how things work in Europe ( btw we are not tourists) We left the restaurant after 45mns. They did apologize and said we could have a coffee but at this point I was unhappy with the way the manager communicated. The waiter did his best to apologize. I hope the manager understands that people dine out because they want to have a nice evening and don’t want their evening cut short and be lectured about restaurant internal administration. 4. The manger refrain from making assumptions about wether the customers are from Europe or not as it sounded like a derogatory comment. I would suggest they just don’t open on Sunday.

We missed out on the view of the Aare River but still had a most enjoyable lunch at the Terrasse. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was very good with generous servings.

Place is absolutely gorgeous, but need to rate 3 because coffee (cappuccino) is awful! Place like this should invest in proper coffee machine and quality coffee beans.

We had fondue here. The fondue was very tasty! However, it bothered me a little that the bread wasn't sliced.

We were in the fondue hut. The place is full of charm and very nicely decorated. The servers were all very charming and accommodating. We don't speak German, but they got by with a little English and French 🥰 The fondue was excellent

We visited the fondue hut. Since I had already had fondue the day before, I ordered a Nüssli salad as a starter and the pumpkin soup as the main course. Everyone else who was there ordered fondue. The salad was ok but not great. The soup was kindly served at the same time as the fondue. The soup was very bland and extremely runny. Seasoning with salt and pepper didn't help much. The coffee was lukewarm. Conclusion: Expensive prices, food OK but not recommended, ambience TOP.

Regarding the menu, as in all of Switzerland, it is absolutely not clear what it will be and what size it will be 🤦, but it was delicious))) the waitress allowed herself to say a lot of unnecessary things and things that were not asked. The other 2 waiters are great. Because We were a Company, so we partially paid in cash and 2 times with different credit cards (and this was in one check), great idea!!! The atmosphere is great! A very beautiful establishment, quiet and peaceful! I recommend to everyone. I'll come again

Nice brunch restaurant in a unique location directly on the Aare. It's particularly nice to visit in summer because you can sit on the terrace. Classic brunch with a large selection of bread specialties, cheese, meat and fruits. The highlight is certainly the whole salmon, which is offered at the buffet. The desserts are practically presented in glasses, which makes the buffet very clean (no independent scooping and spilling). After brunch, the Aare invites you to take a digestive walk. No matter whether you're heading towards Dählhölzli, Marzili or Bärengraben: the Wechselmätteli is the perfect starting point to enjoy the rest of your Sunday in Bern.

Food was good, not amazing but good. The atmosphere is great as you’re right on the river. Price is definitely on the higher side but that’s usually the case in Switzerland. I’d recommend checking it out, for the vibe alone it’s awesome.

We went there for dinner with my friends. It was a place I have always visited and loved, but the last incident we had was a bad experience. Since I hadn't finished the fish and chips I ordered, I asked to have them taken away and packaged, but I was shocked when the waitress placed the package on our table and asked us to package it. I have never experienced anything like this, I have been there many times and there is such unprofessional service nowhere in the world. Ps; the waitress was so rude

Beautiful place. Love the sound & view of water. There are 2 sections: a small section with a limited menu, has its own designated area. The other section is with bigger menu variety. Salmon & cucumber dish is a must try. Other than that dish, food was ordinary.

The terrace is magnificent with a breathtaking view of the river. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the food is delicious. I really enjoyed my experience there and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing waterfront vibe day or night.

Great location in Bern - recommended. Not exactly cheap, parking is sometimes difficult. If you don't like the sound of rushing water, you should avoid the place, it can be quite loud with the locks next to it (outside)

After repeatedly alerting you to spiders in the restaurant, you even get them on your jacket for free.

It's a restaurant I go to again and again. The last time we were there last week we ordered coffee and dessert and the waiter was not polite. His service was not good. He didn't bring napkins with the order, we asked for them.

Nice place, at the water's edge, terrace in the middle of a heatwave to absolutely avoid!! It's a sauna under this extended roof, you don't feel the freshness of the water. No welcome, no service, after waiting a while, we decided to leave without consuming anything!

We were seated but not served. The staff ignored usm after 15 minutes after that. we decided to leave.

The two of us had breakfast there. This place really thrives on its location. Surrounded by water and the beautiful city of Bern -> simply fantastic. The portion was quite small, but tasted good. The menu also offers a good selection of breakfast options. Let's get to the service. This morning the terrace wasn't particularly busy (about 6 tables with 2 people each). There was a service person responsible for all guests. Meanwhile, three other service staff were calmly setting the remaining tables on the terrace for lunch. The coffee for breakfast came promptly and was already empty when the breakfast was brought to me a little late. Unfortunately, the service staff didn't notice that the cups were empty and moved on straight away. Even when we wanted to order more coffee and water, the waitress gave the impression that she was on the run. The service staff often walked past without noticing that the cups and plates at the table had been empty for a while. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio was not right for us at all!

This place is surely worth a visit for it's location. Terrace view, since it is in a central location on the Aare river is absolutely breathtaking. Service was ok, Flammkuchen was good, Shrimp soup was delicious, calamari rings were ok. Portions were unfortunately small. Would however return to the place. Probably the most picturesque restaurant in town. Two course meal for two, including drinks, would set you back around 100 Francs. Parking options nearby.

The set lunch was very reasonable as it’s served with salad, soup, main, and watermelon. The pricing was around €110 for three people, very good for swiss standards. The view was beautiful too.

Before the Patent Ochsner concert on August 8th, 2023, we went to dinner at Schwanzenmätteli on the terrace. - The ambience on the Aare is simply great. - The welcome was friendly and well placed - The service cannot be topped in terms of friendliness and attentiveness - The food was a real culinary delight The service staff worked hand in hand and created a great atmosphere with their friendly and upbeat mood. ❤️ Thank you very much for this great evening. The surroundings are extraordinary. One can enjoy the scenery and eat high quality food/drink a glass of wine. Some of the staff seemed a bit grumpy/uneager to be welcoming, but everybody can have bad days. A place to come back definitely!

We had breakfast there. You can choose between four different styles. From freshly squeezed orange juice to fried eggs, grain bread, jam, cipolata and bacon, everything was there. The staff is friendly and attentive. The location is a dream for locals or tourists. Sitting directly on the Aare with a view of the cathedral is wonderful and feels like you are in an oasis. Fantastic, we'll be back!

A wonderful place! Daily tip “Limoncello spritz” is great and recommended! It was a bit annoying that the tables weren't cleared (and attracted birds) And... a small recommendation to the house: with the rather expensive drinks (self-service!), a glass of nuts or chips as a gift would be nice and appropriate 😉 We'll be back and let us be surprised! service is the worst First, I entered through a door other than the main door. Gestures me to go towards the main door. I wondered if there would be someone to guide me there, but even though I waited, they didn't respond at all. Is it racism or something? I just felt bad so I went to another restaurant. I think the basis of a restaurant is service, but this place gives the worst experience.

Loved the location, views and food of this restaurant which is located on Aare river in Bern, overlooking the river, old town, and water rapids. We had the salmon tartare, vegi burger, corn fed chicken and some refreshments/drinks. The food was surprisingly good, because you typically expect these kind of places to be big on views but not so much on food, but it was delicious. The service was great. They had ample free parking at the back of the restaurant and the views were just amazing! Highly recommended for special occasions or in general if looking for fascinating views.
