Me and my family recently had a dinner here and we can say that it was one of the most memorable dinners of our vacation in Switzerland! The ambiance was cozy, the service and staff were extremely polte and friendly. The menu offered a tantalizing array of dishes. From appetizers to dessert, every dish we have tried were absolutely amazing. This restaurant truly knows how to create a memorable culinary journey.

The service is great... the location is very central.. it is the right place to taste local flavors... make a reservation during peak season..

We had both andalouse rösti and it was really good. Restaurant atmosphere is also nice. Staff was very polite and very nice to us. Prices were normal for switzerland.

We had a very good New Years meal. I think we should improve the wine list only 2 choices and not exceptional we took a merlot 50 chf there bottles and the waiter brings us a bottle with a capsule cap🫢 he opens it for me with a minimum of class and me have a taste 😂 the wine was seriously lousy transparent appearance diluted no thickness no power nothing... Without this wine problem I would give 5 stars ⭐️ And the service, the waiters are very nice but don't clear away enough so I had a bit of a lot of dishes in front of me 😓

We came in, the smell already made me uncomfortable, I wanted to get out straight away and decided not to visit this restaurant again, but I thought that when there are so many people the food can only be good, so we decided to go stay, the waiter finally came, we were able to order, I would have expected more from the staff, they forgot to bring us the cutlery, I didn't like the food at all, the chicken was really raw and didn't taste good, so I would not visit this restaurant again.

Embarrassing experience. Claustrophobic place, the smells of the kitchen flood the small room. The atmosphere is nauseating. Plus the internal temperature is perhaps 25 degrees higher than the external one. We asked to open the window that was behind us, but they only opened the door for a minute. Rosti, a specialty also featured on the external menu, finished (at 8.30pm). The vegetables were not fresh, taken from the bag, boiled and served piping hot and inedible. Hot dishes (I'm talking about ceramic) and mediocre quality food. A liter of water 11chf, as usual in Switzerland. Even before the food was served we couldn't wait to leave. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND it to anyone. If I really have to pay €30 for a cutlet, it's better to choose other more polite places.

This was our first restaurant in Basel as it was across the station. We arrived the restaurant at 3/4pm so the kitchen was closed - but they still had cheese fondue and a pork & potato dish. The fondue came and it was quite nice. The portion was tiny though. For the pork dish, it was uncooked and quite burnt. We told the waiter about the raw pork and he said they don’t cook their pork fully. Well, I didn’t know what to say about this😂. The waiter did offer to change the dish but we denied it. I was expecting the cost of this dish to be written off as the main part of the dish was raw, but this didn’t happen. We paid CHF 2x for uncooked pork.

The worst fondue in Switzerland. It was too liquid so that the cheese could not stick to the bread. The waiter didn’t even know which types of cheese are inside of fondue they are serving. The potatoes were not boiled well. No pickles or pepper were served. For this price one can have amazing traditional fondue in any other Swiss restaurant.

Very very very bad quality of fondue 🫕. Sour taste, solid text. I have been eating fondue since little, this WAS NOT fondu. For 30 CHF this was super disappointing. We had to send it back because of the poor quality.

Close to Basel sbb station. I had dinner before transferring to the train station, and it was nice because it was close. The male staff member who responded was very friendly. The food tasted good too. On a nice day, it tasted even better when I sat at an outdoor table and ate fondue, schnitzel, and beer. I recommend it! If you want to eat it with beer, those two menu items are enough. I ate my fill.

The restaurant garden was full but we didn't have to wait long for the food. It was very tasty and I can only recommend it. The chef deserved compliments

I went a while ago and the quality of the food was very bad. The fondue meat of poor quality. The super reused oil gave a bad taste, the frozen fries from a bag, the sauces from a supermarket jar, the desserts are only industrial ice cream, there is no homemade dessert, a horror of quality for the price. I wouldn't want to see the kitchen there.

friendly service, good food and nice atmosphere.

Any cozy atmosphere of the nice looking restaurant was killed by the loud radio playing pop songs all the time. The food felt nothing great although I must admit, I do not have a comparison to a "good" fondue. Due to the theme, location and prices, I would consider it a classical tourist trap.

We went thinking it was open but the kitchen was closed, the waiter was extremely friendly and offered us a selection of food that they could make for us despite being closed. The food was excellent, the rosti stroganoff was delicious as was the Classic fondue, highly recommended!!

We ended up in Basel by mistake with a few hours between train connections. This place is near the station and serves excellent traditional Swiss food at quite reasonable prices. Would recommend.

It was our first time at the Steinbock restaurant and we went there on a recommendation... I thought it would be really expensive since it was right opposite the SBB train station... No, the prices are still going... The prices are not exorbitant either... The staff is very friendly and helpful and they respond to special requests... I will definitely eat there again...

Nice place to have fondue! Very close to the Basel SBB station and open during lunch time also. We were 2 of us visiting. Normally, the fondue can be ordered for a minimum of 2 people, but the owner was kind enough to let us order for 1 person and order another dish. This way, we could share both the dishes. The traditional fondue had garlic pieces in it, so was a surprise! However, no potatoes were served, only bread. They also served complimentary freshly baked bread - this was warm and delicious! The other dish we ordered was a Rosti Andalouse - crispy and tasty! Free drinking water :) Prices are reasonable by Swiss standards.

Staff were really nice. The food was a big let down. I had the chicken slices with paprika and cream sauce. The chicken was the most unusual texture (squeaky and hard). Tasted cooked, cooled and then re-heated (possibly in a microwave). I have eaten street food in south East Asia and wasn't as worried as I was in this restaurant about food safety. I really wanted to like it. It's a beautiful old pub. Recommend for a drink, but not for food.

Nothing was fresh, felt that everything came directly from the migros! They thought that we weren’t from Switzerland so they serve us incomplete menu! We will surely not recommend, just awful!

The best raclette I ate in Basel was here. We had a great time with the warmth of the environment and the sincerity, interest and smiling faces of the owners. We thank them for their coffee and kindness. We will stop by every time we come to Basel from now on.

The hosts were extremely accommodating, attentive and very warm. The traditionally run Swiss cuisine with a large selection of dishes leaves absolutely nothing to be desired: We chose the Valais-style Rösti, the Zurich Geschnetzelte and the beef rump steak with Café de Paris sauce; All an excellent choice that tasted hearty. The beef rump steak was also perfectly fried 👌 (medium). Definitely worth a visit!!!

Food was very good, I only missed the warm chocolate sauce with the Coup Danmark and Banana Split, it was more of a bought sauce and very little even though we asked for it when ordering. Still 5 stars because otherwise it was very good.

Ordered pork medallions for 33 euros and received completely tough, inferior meat. This definitely wasn't a fillet. I was then treated to an espresso to make up for it. But they were nice.

It is a great option to taste delicious food in a nice family atmosphere accompanied by caring staff. If you are near BSB Banhof, I recommend you to go there.

A warm family restaurant and great food..

When you enter the restaurant, you can really tell that it’s family owned. Very friendly and willing to explain the menu even with limited English. The restaurant is conveniently located near the railroad station and for me it was a short walk from the hotel. I was there in the early evening, and there was a good ambiance with more people coming in later But still was comfortable and not noisy. As for my meal, I chose a salad which was good, but not what I expected ,as it had cream based dressing but it was good. For the main meal I had pork slices sautéed in a mushroom cream sauce with pasta. It was very good and very filling. Definitely a place to return during my stay and I highly recommend it.

Update 2022: Unfortunately, the quality is no longer right after the change of tenant. A pity. ---- Been there several times. The restaurant is very centrally located at Basel train station, you can eat outside in summer. Very cozy inside with lots of wood, There is also a small, rustic parlor. The food is good, typically Swiss. There are always several menus at lunchtime from CHF 18.50 to 25.00, There is also a soup or salad. Service friendly.

Rösti and Kalbswurst: It was delicious. In particular, rösti tastes similar to potato pancakes.

Fondue! Perfect cheese fondue for New Year Dinner (01.01.2023). We ordered tomato soup, which was very tasty. Also had beef liver with onions, herbed butter and butterrosti...delicious! Very traditional Swiss Restaurant. Best to call for a reservation as the place gets full easily. Very near the Basel Central Train Station. Recommended.

I was there for the first time. I ate fondue chinoise. The sauces were very nice. The plates were very nice The meat was also very good. The only drawback is the staff. The young waiter wasn't really motivated, but was still nice. But again it forgot my water even though me and my girlfriend were the only ones. Why is the service still given 5 stars? Because it was January 1st. An employee is also just a human being. You could tell he wanted to be polite and do everything well, but if your body doesn't cooperate, that's just the way it is. But I found the atmosphere very nice. The restaurant is very small and traditional

Pretty cool place kind people ready to take the time to answer you even if you don't speak Deutsch, pretty cheap for Switzerland two meal with drink costed us less than 60€ Would recommend to anyone who wants to visit the city and take a break to eat

Their fondue tasted like glop. Bread was stale and had a sour taste that would put a lot of people off. For 25-year-olds you get 5 mini potatoes and gloppy disgusting fondue that taste like smog. Avoid at all costs

Even though we made reservations, there wasn't a single table available when we arrived. We noticed that the same thing happened to 3 other guests. The staff themselves said that this is why they simply brought the bill to some guests without asking. The cheese fondue was moderately good, very runny and didn't have much to do with cheese. The staff was nice to us but clearly overwhelmed. A bad experience overall.

Rösti wasn't entirely convincing, there wasn't enough butter for butter rösti, but Leberli was great, service was impeccable
