Tao's in Zürich

Was here for lunch, has a Japanese touch to the food. It was very tasty and service was good too. Price performance is okay for Zurich in the area. Definitely worth a visit.

The starters were simply great. All dishes were with different tastes. Main course Black Angus with pepper sauce also excellent. Cheesecake with sorbet 10/10!!! The restaurant is also stylish and great music.

Incredibly delicious food, attentive service and great ambience. Due to the large group there was an unpleasant noise level, which almost made it impossible for 5 people to have a conversation.

Absurdly good food in a stylish restaurant with very attentive and friendly service. It's a shame there is only a small selection of vegetarian dishes. In my opinion, squid no longer belongs on any menu for animal welfare reasons. That's why only four stars.

Very nice restaurant, very friendly staff & fantastic food. Personally, it's just too dark for me when I eat in the evening, otherwise the atmosphere is very cozy and cozy. I think it's a bit overpriced but I've been there several times and was very satisfied every time

This was my second time at Tao’s Zurich. All their food tastes absoluteky delicious and the atmosphere is amazing. However vegetarian options are scarce, which made them loose a lot of points for me. They want to be a modern Asian restaurant but the only vegetarian option for the main course is a Truffles Risotto. With tofu, tempeh and other amazing alternatives, there are so many ways to reimagine the Asian kitchen. So if you’re vegetarian and you don’t like risotto this makes you feel quite stupid, because you need to try to build an adequate meal with starters and sides. I ended up having dumplings with some sides and they tasted great, but I left the restaurant feeling hungry. Nowadays a lot of people follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. If they had a few more plant-based options for the main course, this would have been a 5 star review.

Very fine dishes, unfortunately this restaurant is a bit expensive.

The restaurant was highly praised in some Zurich newspaper. It's basically the best Asian restaurant in the city. Having traveled a lot in China and Asia myself, I went there with my old aunt, who had traveled even further, to be surprised with Asian delicacies. Reservation, reception and farewell were good. Questions about the food and wine could not be answered. The multinational service force is super nice. - But they definitely don't know the food and wine. The curry soup as an entrée was sensational: THE bright spot. But then the pecking duck: Fazzly, falling apart, cut too thin, not juicy enough, little taste.... Sauce without a spoon, and then: Instead of the necessary wafer-thin, steamed dough sheets, almost a kind of tortillas, fried. How should I do the rolls with this? Impossible. But that has nothing to do with Peking duck. Some fried Wagiu beef dumplings were tasty, but also far from any Chinese cuisine. The dim sums with truffles and as veggies were quite ok, but nothing really blew me away. It's a shame about the beautiful restaurant :: Employees would have to be trained. Chefs would have to learn how to cook themselves in China. For me, today's performance was absolutely inadequate and I feel ripped off at these prices.

Lunch was very good, the octopus was a good starter, a bit spicy and full of flavour with tomatoes. The truffle dimsum was also nice but wasn’t as special as I thought. The cod was super tender and full of flavor and perfect with the asparagus that has a typical Chinese taste. The Mochi end was perfect, coconut was definitely the star of the three flavours! A good but more high end restaurant 😍

The food was as always delicious. However this time the service was not up to standards. We had to repeat orders several times and had to ask for the ordered glas of sparkling water 3 times and never received it in the end. Same for Apero & Dessert; orders were not entirely complete. Also a very begative point in my eyes: we asked for coke zero.. and we receive a glas, half full with ice (in winter) and no bottle, as if we are in a mensa. For this type of cusine and price level, I expect to receive a glas bottle.

Sushi is sensational. Service and ambience top! I can recommend it to everyone.

It’s a 10 minute walk from the main train station to this pricey pan Asian upmarket restaurant. The decor outside suitably has bamboo trees at the entrance. The interior is modern and stylish. Welcome was quick and kindly including coat hanging at entrance. (However, we had to walk past the roped off area at the end of the meal to collect our own coats as the waitress was on the phone and that took priority over actual guests in front of her. To be fair, the restaurant had closed at 2 PM although several diners like us were allowed to finish our meals and desserts without being rushed. We exited at 2:30 PM.) The lunch menu has relatively few dishes with a heavy concentration on sushi, shellfish and meat. There are enough vegetarian options however. The food was beautifully presented and service was kindly and efficient. The taste was good but not exceptional. As others have noted, it’s pricey even by Zurich standards. But it is a classy restaurant I would welcome going back to.

One of the worst restaurants I have ever tried in my life. The price is not worth the quality of the meal. Tap water sold as mineral water. No service.

There were six of us there for Christmas dinner. The food was tasty, although expensive, which would have been completely okay if the service had been good. It's really a shame that a service person spoils the whole impression. Food delicious and worth the money. Unfortunately service not at all.

Stylish presented very mediocre food. Not really fusion, just Asian but without Asian flair. Very expensive for what it is. Small portions. Wouldn’t go there again. Location, decoration and service are good though.

Unfortunately we were in the bar Service is weak, manager completely arrogant, arrogant and incompetent, security act amateurish instead of doing their job inconspicuously, organization and coordination does not take place among the staff. A pity!!

Disastrous service. The booking said that you had a time window of 2 hours, which was okay for the 3 of us. As soon as we arrived at the restaurant we were urged to order. The waitress kept coming by and after 50' she wanted us to order dessert, we were shocked because you don't expect something like that in such a classy restaurant. She literally threw the menu at us and came after 2' and wanted to take the order. We are 3 women between the ages of 45 and 65 and left 450 francs behind. All three of us have been to Taos many times, but after this experience, no thanks, we won't be back any time soon. The waitress really wanted to clear the table at our expense and didn't even want to give us the whole 2 hours. How unprofessional is that? In the end we were just annoyed, didn't tip a single franc and then went somewhere else for a drink. The waitress is the one with blonde, very curly hair. Food 5 stars Ambience 5 stars Service no star

Thanks to navigation, we easily found our destination today Tao's. We received a very friendly welcome and were escorted to our table. We started with a Patron Silver Margarita with Mango, which was served in an original way and was very delicious. For starters, we had the Grilled Octopus and Wagyu Gyoza. The octopus was excellently prepared and seasoned. The Crispy Duck Salad surprised us in two ways - it was a very generous portion and beautifully presented. Highly recommended. For our main course, we chose the US Black Pepper Beef and the US Beef Filet. Both dishes were beautifully presented and the quality of the filet was absolutely perfect - it almost melted in our mouths. The Fried Rice was a bit oily, but the creamy coconut spinach was top-notch in terms of color, consistency, and flavor. We enjoyed a bottle of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon and mineral water with our dinner. Unfortunately, we couldn't handle any dessert as we were completely full. Two espressos concluded the delicious meal. Conclusion: Tao's is a very nice location with attentive and polite staff, although the club music can be a bit distracting for the overall atmosphere. The culinary experience is convincing in every aspect. However, the price-performance ratio is a bit of a stretch, even by Zurich standards. Paying CHF 400 without gratuity for two people for a three-course menu with wine, excluding dessert, is clearly excessive.

Exceptional food! The truffle beef was the best. Several waiters were serving us and all of them provided very good service. Only downside: jackets were not taken at the reception, felt like students sitting with our bags and jackets/ blonde waiter did neither look at us nor say goodbye. Mixed experience

Whenever possible we go to TAOs 😀👍. The food, service and ambience are top notch. After dinner you can smoke a cigar in the lounge or upstairs in the club. Above all, the combination that you can eat outside under the trees or inside makes the location so special. We'd love to come back

Disappointing… not classy. Just a pretentious place. DON'T GO THERE.

Very disappointing. We used to find this place pleasant, but the service this time left something to be desired. When we pointed out that the beef in the tagliatelle was practically raw and that one person in our group was pregnant, we received an unfriendly response that we should let us know in advance. In other restaurants we are used to being asked how cooked the meat is, especially in pasta dishes where you expect at least medium rare. We were also served expensive bottled water without asking. All in all, we found the costs to be too high and the service unfriendly and unprofessional."

I had the beef pepper for 58 CHF ONLY 9 slices of beef… it’s a joke. I visited Taos 4 times since I live in Zurich and there is always something wrong… The service to the smoking bar was as usual bad! Very bad in the sens that if you don’t take a bottle you don’t have the right to seat 😅 I mean that’s ridiculously bad calculation because a group of 4 who doesn’t take a bottle can spend more in single drinks that a group of 15 taking one bottle…. The spirit of this place is just broken! It doesn’t fit… that’s a pity because this place could be more attractive without this ugly way of marketing.

Nice garden, food okay but very expensive

Great atmosphere at a great location in the center of Zurich. We had very nice Dinner, everything we tried was over the top. A special thanks to Pier and the rest of the team for the incredible service. Would definitely recommend!

I love the whole atmosphere, that certain something, the light inside the restaurant that reflects a special ambience. In summer, the unbeatable garden economy with these strong and beautiful trees. Hospitable staff, are always at the table when the wine glass is empty to refill it😉 Very good menu and even better wine list (certainly recommended for wine lovers) It's one of my favorite places...

Very nice restaurant with beautiful interior and lounge music. The food is very good, but the portions do not justify the price, not even in Zurich, where we are used to inflated prices. The staff was ok nice - but here I would expect more at this price level.

Asian fusion food. Great place in a great location. A little pricey

The ambience is simply beautiful, with attention to detail :) The service was also okay, but the price-performance ratio is a bit too exaggerated. However, you can just enjoy it in Taos, it is very central, the cocktails are very good and it was pretty busy.

Well one of the most beautiful places in Zurich or you drink very well

A cool spot to get a mix of good cuisine. The restaurant is enormous and the staff was friendly. A great spot for a date night or a fun group dinner. Go here if you want to dress up and be part of the scene and be prepared for the prices.

This security at the bar is a disgrace, told me it was a private event and no other people were coming in. I was with my wife and wanted to have a drink and finally found out that I have too many muscles (too wide). This little guy is ridiculous (security)

Way too overpriced for what you get. The portions are small and nothing special. The service was ok. The drinks are the only thing worth visiting.

We were there for dinner before going to the club inside the restaurant. We were seated upstairs in a very nice room with wooden decorations, it felt very cozy. Unfortunately, the crispy chicken salad was bathing in its sauce, that was too sugary. If you go there I would recommend to take only the small tapas, dim sum, rolls and gyoza which were good. The service at the restaurant was not very good. They kept forgetting our order. After we wanted to go to the restaurant’s club (that has a different owner apparently) and the service, dj and drinks were not good for so many reasons. If I could rate only the club I would give it a 1. I would only go back for the restaurant atmosphere and tapas.

The food was great, just a small portion and very expensive. Staff not so good. Was eating with a small group and like everyone else we didn't feel welcome because the waiter said at the beginning that we should order quickly because there would be people coming later. Things don't work that way. I did not expect. I would hate to come back.

Went to Tao's for the first time yesterday. A restaurant that I cannot recommend to anyone. The ambience is very nice, the food tastes ok, but the prices for these dishes are not justified. The portions are so small and bear no relation to the price charged. The staff “blabbers” the same thing to every guest who comes along. No attentive service it seems that the staff is overwhelmed or simply incompetent. I can't understand the positive reviews, but to each his own - if hunger isn't an issue after an expensive meal, then this is the right restaurant. Thank God there are better and more accommodating places in Zurich for fine dining!

You guys do not realize that the servers leave you alone because that is the tradition in Zurich. I live there and every restaurant you go to the waiters will mostly leave you alone. They are not being nasty. Before you write a review saying these things understand the culture

I was with people of my company in restaurante and the food was not bad but they did not have WC. The price in compare to quality and service is too high. Later we went to Taos bar and it was really bad we did not feel well and safe there. We really do not recommend this place.

Food is delicious, you can taste the quality in the products. But there are some details to take note… still water (TAP WATER) 10 Swiss francs it’s a lot… the portions of the food are ok but not for the price. The toilets are not in great condition, if you are paying for a 5 star place, you have a to keep the toilets at least clean, because they need to be renewed ASAP. (Hand soap is also necessary). Service was good, friendly and nice! Atmosphere is great under the shade of the trees.

It would be a beautiful place with a cozy terrace and well-kept food. But this cigar smoking completely spoils the enjoyment. The acrid smoke spreads all over the terrace and bothers most of the guests. The fact that this is still allowed today… a shame for the restaurant.

Definitely a go to place in Zürich. It's hidden near Bahnhofstrasse, so location wise it's very good. The service is friendly and also the food is consistently great! I would recommend to book a table in advance, since it's a popular place especially for lunch and dinner. The interior design is hip, young, modern and trendy. Above the restaurant is also a Club called "Icon" which is in my opinion a great club with good music. I will definitely come back:)

Mini-mini portions, cheeky, so small that you're still hungry after a meal with sidedish, which costs around 100 Fr. without wine. The prices are out of this world expensive for what you get. The relationship wasn't right, so I left the restaurant with a very bad feeling. I haven't been so disappointed in a long time. Never again.

Way too expensive for what you get! 29 Fr for 3 small gyozas, sushi is tiny and the side dish has to be ordered separately for the expensive main courses. Come on! Price-performance ratio is far from correct. We're never coming back

The food and place was perfect!!! However the service was rude, unattended and they try to charge us more for something we did not order. Perhaps we will try it again but in another part to avoid the waiter we had.

Lovely client lunch in the garden. We really enjoyed some sharing plates: a few starters and a couple of mains plus sides: Truffle Beef Tataki, Tuna Carpaccio, Truffle Dumpling, Korean Spiced Lamb Chops, Thai Asparagus, Pommes Allumettes. Nice cocktails and glasses of wine to accompany our meal. Amazing all round experience: both the food and the ambience from the garden setting(in the center of Zürich so close to Paradeplatz) never disappoints the clients.

Very average food and drinks, nothing special, nothing tasty

Went for an after-dinner drink on 2023-06-20. The bar-side waitress with dark hair was very friendly but evidently super-busy. When we wanted to pay and our waitress was nowhere to be found, we walked up to her colleagues. Our mistake not realizing that those were the restaurant-side colleagues (the terrace contains both bar- and restaurant-side tables) who first told us there's no bill open and at some point concluded that ours must be a bar-side table and we need to talk to the bar-side staff. I get it's a stressful job (and there was at least one table with loud, obnoxious patrons) but the annoyed attitude we received from the blonde restaurant-side waitress was quite something.

Fine supper but small portions.

We did the outside dining. Atmosphere was nice. Decent. Many tables can be a bit squished together. So if you want space, on a nice evening (weather-wise), book early and get a corner booth or end table, or specifically ask for a table with some space. Not always guaranteed. It’s a popular place. Otherwise, prepare to speak loudly so your partner, or friend(s) can hear you. Inside can also be pleasant, but the music is quite loud. The staff is constantly running. They are aware, and helpful, quick, and able. The food….wonderful. The flavors, textures, scents, proportions, and presentation were delightful to the palate, the stomach, the spirit and mind. Great team of chefs. Yes, recommended to visit….to enjoy….more than once.

Food here was great and the ambiance is decent. The service here is extremely slow and the server was rude. I don't think we will visit here again.

The atmosphere was nice, a real hideaway in the middle of Zurich. However, the service was very average, and the density of new-rich people, speaking loud and showing off was insane. It transcribes to the menu as well, where you will wagyu dumplings at 10 chf per unit, and other finger food boosted on expensive ingredients: it was really good though, don't get me wrong. We had 1 cocktail each and, as you can see, most of the snacks on the menu, and we really were hungry. It priced at 200. Judging on the taste of the food only, it's a 5. Considering the show-off atmosphere, the service and the price, it's a 2.

This is a very personal perspective, but here it is. The place itself is very nice and staff is also nice, service is great (fast, friendly). Location is great. However, one can see how commercial or transactional the place also is. They don't separate tables enough to ensure that smokers won't smoke right next to people who don't or might be allergic to it. The food is ok for the price they charge. I had a poke bowl and it was just about ok for composition, taste vs the price. I actually won't go again to eat there, but to hang out only. If someone wants a well known, frequented and hip place to have some food and drinks with friends, can recommend it, but it is definitely not a place for food lovers who also would like to get great food. The place is well known, therefore usually full, so one really must book a table, but that's normal in Zürich. Just book it in time. For summer vibes with friends: can recommend it!

The location, ambience and food were all great, just the service was quite bad. First double booking our table so we were rushed with our dinner and second the waiter was not attentive at all. This is not acceptable for a restaurant of this type and prices.

Ideal place to enjoy a nice meal and summer vibes in Zürich, thanks to the external terrace. The menu is about fusion dishes combining thai and japanese cuisine; I had the dragon shrimps which were nicely cooked in an asian-style sauce and herbs and I also got the wok vegetable as side dish. The food was good, maybe a bit pricy for what you get (the portions are not abundant). The service was a bit slow but the staff was friendly.

The service and food are excellent. However, only recommend eating outside. The terrace is magical in the evenings. The inside is not worth the price, very outdated decoration.

For a place that wants to be a high-end restaurant, the whole experience was quite disappointing. The food was satisfactory (though overpriced), but the service was quite slow and inattentive and didn’t seem professional (e.g. couldn’t provide additional information about the food on the menu), which is unacceptable for this price range. What surprised me the most is how dirty the bathrooms were - overflowing garbage bins, paper towls and toilet paper on the floor… If you are looking for fine dining in Zurich, there are many more better options!

Unfortunately only ready-made mix for espresso martini for CHF 21. Inedible, cheeky and unworthy of such a bar. Should be declared instead of just cashing in.

Lunch selection small, portions very modest, service efficient, food comes quickly, quality ok, but should be twice as good for the high prices, or twice as much. Because of the mini portions, you have to have a starter, and even then you leave hungry and with 75 CHF less per person. For that money I can go to a Gault Millau restaurant around the corner.

Absolutely stunning food and some great selection of wines!

Great atmosphere and very beautiful terrace. But service is bad, one waiter behaved really strange by asking what is the brand of my sunglasses etc. They also added to the bill stuff that we e didn’t order and after didn’t even apologize properly.

Terrible service, only accepting cash, very dodgy place! The manager Said is a terrible manager and treats his guests very unprofessionally and has no sense of hospitality!
