Great pub atmosphere, very fine food, the staff is always very accommodating, seasonal dishes, you feel like you're at home... I'd love to come back

The pub has a real, cozy pub atmosphere. The staff/service was great, friendly, cheerful, attentive, humorous and efficient. What I noticed was that the pub was very clean and tidy. The food: The card was nicely presented. I enjoyed a mixed salad, chicken nuggets and fries. My companion spaetzle with cheese. The lettuce was absolutely fresh and delicious. But I don't like cucumber salad that has been prepared because it often becomes "floppy" and the taste is not good. It is also difficult to digest. The carrots weren't freshly grated and the corn was too fattening. I admit that I'm rather picky when it comes to eating... I would just order green salad next time. The nuggets were delicious, as was the dip. The fries... not outstanding, but fine. My companion loved the spaetzle dish! The wine and the Usterbräu were very good. What would have made me completely happy would have been a chocolate shop with my coffee, but that was only marginally so. I really enjoyed my stay, would love to come back! New visit on March 15, 2024: A lovely evening with really good food, atmosphere and delicious drinks. The Prosecco (without ice) is one of the tastiest, and the Malbec from Argentina is really a delight. The bruschetta is highly recommended, good, crispy toasted bread, and wonderful, fresh tomatoes, simply delicious. The chicken nuggets and fries were very good. What really pleased and surprised me was the scoop of ice cream, which was very delicate and decorated with fruit. So much “tasty plus” for a scoop of ice cream! And! => with the espresso there was a fine Lotus Biscuit 😍 Thank you for the lovely, delicious evening!

I ordered the spare ribs. These were the best ribs I've ever had. So tender, the meat was literally off the bone and the marinade was amazing. The side sauces couldn't be topped either. Very nice staff. The food was cooked and served at a quick pace.

The service staff is inattentive. I wait and wait and wait for the bill but nothing comes. The Selecta at the train station brings more quality with it. Thanks

Good food, good selection of drinks and excellent service

I used to like the place. But arriving at 22 and seeing that we cannot sit because quite a few tables are (still) reserved for eating, is very disappointing. The only option available was outside, and it's already a bit cold for that. Also, I find it very disgusting that people are allowed to smoke inside, and the DJ music apparently is only for them, the smokers. I guess I should start going to Zeughaus more often. Update: I wasn't given any option, just to sit where the barrels are (very uncomfortable) or outside (already cold), I certainly wasn't informed that I would be informed if someone would leave. What I don't understand is why at least 4 tables were reserved just for eating at 22:00, empty, when they could be accommodating us or someone else for drinks. I seriously doubt that so many people would eat that late in Switzerland. I am happy if the non-smokers area will be improved soon, at least. Update 2: I don't know who you are talking about but we weren't three, but two, and there were at least four tables available but still reserved for dinner, at 22. If somebody spoke with you that we were leaving it certainly wasn't my friend. Thanks for the offer but I am not writing you, I just think that the service should be much more flexible and welcoming, customer-centric, which definitely wasn't the case the last time we went there, and that is why we left. Again, it's ridículous to tell your customers to sit outside or in the uncomfortable area of the barrels (that was empty for that reason) when you have several empty tables, reserved for food, that realistically will not be occupied anymore. Seriously, it's just about caring about your customers, the rest doesn't matter. The way it happened the message I received is "I prefer to keep all those tables empty than giving one to you", which isn't really a nice thing to say

Lovely place for chicken wings and fries, the best fries in the world.

It's always nice here. I come here every now and then to have something to eat and drink a few beers. Monday is burger day, which I think is best.

Basically OK. Tonight was a bit unlucky as the waiter was in an EXTREMELY bad mood. He was then replaced and the rest of the staff, service and kitchen made up for it. I had a well-prepared tartare that was also very attractively presented. We were there as a group of around 40 people. 2 months later all OK. A bit warm and stuffy, a ceiling fan or two would definitely help. Would definitely go again.

Smelly, dirty and attended by a cocky waiter who believes is Tom Cruise in the cocktail movie… however his manners are terrible. Also grabs your drink lemon with his hands after touching all his face. Forget it… go somewhere that doesn’t pretend to be what is not…

This place has incredible take on the classic hamburger. They embed eggs and bacon into it, and it's massive . It's big enough in terms of space to play board games . They have fussbal, as well and it is kid friendly due to the large space and opportunity to build your own area out.

Very good place. The staff is very efficient and pleasant. The cuisine fully meets expectations and the portions are very correct. The atmosphere and music are what you would expect from a pub. I recommend !

Great food, beer and team. We just wanted to watch a football match for two, the Porters team ran the match for us. Unfortunately the TV outside didn't work. But the team worked around for about 30 minutes especially for us until it worked 🤩 Thank you!!!

We were very unlucky this evening. We waited 10 minutes for service. Afterwards we went to ask if we could order. The waitress said she would be there soon. Since no one came after 15 minutes, we left the restaurant again.

The bartender was quite snarky and didn't give the impression that he really wanted to sell anything. Instead of preparing the drinks that had already been ordered, they preferred to wait for all the remaining ones, which definitely cost time in the end. The drinks were ok. Getting smoked at the bar definitely doesn't make the atmosphere any better...

Simply brilliant, super friendly staff

Service mediocre (inattentive) prices rather high for this quality. Our drinks were poorly mixed (taste) and glasses smelled unpleasant. There is a lot of room for improvement

I came for the semi-final match of the Champions League for the first time. Screens have no sound and when asked it was communicated that it should have sound but the technician was already gone and that's just the way it is now. The only expectation I have from a pub is that you can enjoy the game, but even that is too much to ask for at this place. First and last time that I come here. What a joke of a pub.

Competent, friendly staff, brilliant facility. I can only leave no comment on the food since I didn't eat any there. But the offer made me “happy”😉

The staff is friendly, accommodating and very personable, very nice people who enjoy their job. The food is excellent, I can especially recommend the nachos and deb poulled pork burger with onion rings, which has the right spice. Can only recommend the bar.

2022: In the meantime, the store has really changed; on our last visit, the kitchen and bar were quite impressive. We had very tasty burgers and pints. I'll leave the text from six years ago below. 2016: Unfortunately, it's just bad all around. If you're not able to fry a burger properly, you shouldn't sell one, but definitely not at these prices. Not only was the meat fried for far too long, all the ingredients including the cole slaw were stuffed into the burger, even though it was served "open" according to the menu. The below-average food is accompanied by service that is completely overwhelmed and pricing that can only be described as outrageous. It's perfect that the horrendous prices for the better whiskeys on the menu are hidden by offering them at half the quantity. In short: avoid at all costs, you can get better and cheaper everywhere.

Probably OK for regular guests without an alternative. Drinks lack a bit of love. Some of the service staff are so visibly in a bad mood that you almost feel sorry for them. 🤣

Locally furnished in a relaxed and cool way. Service very friendly. A no go: Gin served with RedBull Organics Tonic. Wow bad. Too bad for the Ginmare. Sorry. Then it's better to have a glass of water or at least provide information when ordering that it's not a real tonic. A pity.

It took forever to get our food even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Service unfriendly, almost nerfed... Food is at Mc Donalds Nievea and too expensive for that. Next time I'd rather go somewhere else.

Cool pup in UK style. There is a good atmosphere. Good drinks and fine beers. Rather higher in price. There is also the option to eat. I don't know what this is like, I haven't provided anything. Maybe next time

It is a convenient place to meet for drinks and burgers, wings, and nachos. It was renovated in 2016. I like their outdoor patio. They sell a black and tan beer. Overall is clean, the staff is reasonable. If you are smoker than you can smoke outside on the patio.

A huge thank you to Miriam for the first-class service. Even though the restaurant was quite full, we were treated to great service. The food and the atmosphere are exactly to our taste. We had burgers and steaks that were cooked perfectly. We'd love to come back. Keep it up👍

I rarely bother to comment on a restaurant visit, but I'm happy to make an exception here. We have been guests at the Porter House several times and appreciate the service and good cuisine. However, the waiter who served us on Sunday at around 6 p.m. was anything but friendly, his manners were more like those of a military canteen where someone had to do a penal service than that of a waiter in a restaurant with a large restaurant Beer (0.5) costs almost 10 CHF! The Caesar salad came with three different dressings to choose from, but not with a Caesar dressing... The salad neither had the usual anchovies nor was it the right type of lettuce; iceberg lettuce had been used sparingly. It had nothing to do with a Caesar salad and the burger was puny and relatively tasteless. It's a shame, we were really very disappointed, especially since the colleague who served us from time to time was very friendly and hard-working and had done her profession a credit - as we know from the past. It's a shame, especially since really good cuisine was served here in the past. We won't be coming back any time soon.

Cool atmosphere, but the "dining area" is pretty crowded. This makes it very loud and sometimes you have trouble understanding what you're talking to. The food was very tasty, but the portions were too big. For many people, almost half of their plate goes back and is thrown away. Drink selection is great! Staff committed and friendly.

Overwhelmed and not always friendly staff. Prices are totally exorbitant, you are in Uster not in Zurich on Bahnhofstrasse. Food quality is very poor...

It did surprised me! It does not look so good from outside. Looks a little bit dark and small so I never went in but I realised that is huge inside, good food and beers. They does the Guinness quite good!

Porter House gives me the feeling of being in Boston (New England) in Switzerland. Great staff, restaurant is located right next to Uster train station and has great beer and ribs on offer. Give it a try.

Embarrassing appearance. Empty hall. No entry due to "seats reserved". Laughable... and a shame. Buy a few bar stools and place them against the wall in front of screwed boards. Improvisation and ideas are required, not awkward fussing about any x-G "rules"! And don't beg for Corona compensation, etc. afterwards.

Super nice and competent service. The food was very good and seasonal items were also offered. Even as a vegetarian you can find something good to eat. Thank you also for carrying out the tests right in front of your house and for even giving you a consumption voucher. The only note is that my husband found one citizen a bit too small, but the xxl burger was huge..😉

Great pub with various very good open beers and a large pub food menu. The burgers (e.g. Patrick's Irishburger or Porterburger) with the fresh buns with black sesame taste super fresh. The open beers include Murphys Irish Red or Newcastle Brown Ale, which go very well with these burgers. The service is very organized, friendly and efficient. We will definitely come here again.
