The Tea Room in Engelberg

Very good pastry shop. Large selection of good teas and the Queen is still hanging on the wall :-), where is the King hanging? My muesli was top notch. Is more aimed at teas than coffee. Friendly staff, we like to stop by and always discover something new on the menu.

We had a good look and the tea was very tasty.

Woe betide you, the sign "Please wait, we will accompany you to a table" is overlooked, then there is a severe "warning" from the staff - which was also a big topic at the neighboring tables... The tea and cake are great 🤩 The mistake of collecting 10 CHF too much was then noticed...

When the weather was beautiful, I wanted to have lunch with my husband on the cozy terrace, but unfortunately we were denied this, even though it would have been sunny and warm enough. When I asked why, Mr. Baumherr gave me the curt answer that the terrace was closed. When asked why, he answered unkindly by saying that I could see that the chairs and tables were not prepared and he didn't want to go out and go in so he would catch a cold. Another service employee said that I could buy something for “take away” and eat outside somewhere, as the restaurant was quite full and stuffy. I am a regular and long-term guest of various Christian bakeries, which I generally like very much, but Engelberg always disappoints me in terms of customer service and flexibility. I also find the sometimes very specific allocation of tables to be inadequate and unsympathetic for a restaurant like this. It's a shame, but luckily there are alternatives that make you feel welcome.

Nice tea room, attractive from the outside. On the other hand, the reception is disastrous. A sign asks you to wait to be seated; no harm in that, but you must then greet the customer without delay and quickly show them where to sit. In reality, the waiters ignore you, no smile and seem a little overwhelmed. Too bad... It just makes you want to go out again! Three stars because the pastry (mille-feuille) was good.

Very appealing atmosphere, the food was very tasty, although a bit expensive. The service was good.

On Sundays at 11.130 a.m. no more breakfast and that with a Beckerei >> is a no go in my opinion! I would understand if there was nothing left or if it had to be specially cut. In such cases, you could serve rolls from your own and neighboring Beckerei for breakfast!

We were drawn to this place because it feels extremely English. Unfortunately, the ambience is the only thing that really scores points... The places are assigned. There's nothing wrong with that, but I expect this to happen IMMEDIATELY. We were also strongly advised not to sit at a table of four as a couple! When no one took our order, I stood at the counter... The waitress then immediately came to our table. Latte Macchiato (including Sablé) were really good, but the price of a very steep CHF 6.80 is more reminiscent of St. Moritz or Zurich... Unfortunately, this was our first and last visit to The Tea Room. It's a shame, because the place really has potential. ADDENDUM: Thank you very much for your feedback. You actually deserve 5 stars for your ability to take criticism 👍😁👌 I have now corrected it to 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. If you rethink and adapt your concept, I would be happy to give your pretty café a second chance the next time you visit Engelberg ☕️🍰

Very unfriendly, they were sent out again because dogs were forbidden. They are from the day before yesterday and are not dependent on guests. Better go to Dossenbach.

I believe the food on offer here is ok, however, we were not able to fully appreciate it as we were told that our group of 10 was too big to be served. There was clearly enough space if the owner had the patience to deal with our group of 6 parents and 4 children. We were told to buy take away food and leave. Simply put it felt like they still wanted our money, but must go somewhere else to eat it because they didn't want to deal with our kids. I must say, the hotel next door was very willing and happy to accommodate us afterwards and here is a lovely photo of us enjoying ourselves there, thanks spannort!!!

Horrible place people didn’t let us in because we were a group of ten (four kids six adults).We suggest to split but they didn’t let us so they said order something and go.

We went to this beautiful place and the welcome was simply sublime. A truly fantastic place to relax while enjoying an excellent tea. Thank you for welcoming us and pampering us. A round of applause to the very kind lady who served us (she spoke Italian as well as English very well).

Nice café/tea room in the middle of Engelberg! It's expensive, but the ambience, the good and tasty selection, the friendly service and sometimes the entertaining view from a window seat make up for it.

Later edit (after the owner response): 1. There is a difference between flat white and cappuccino. The simple fact that they don't know about this, is a sign. If one orders a flat white and they don't serve it (because they have other variations of coffee), it's better to inform the person, maybe they change their choice, instead of bringing something else. This is not how their approach is. 2. Cutting the pie - understandable, but on top of everything else, it was just annoying 3. baby changing table - I did ask for one, was told by the waitress that they don't have any and was not offered any options. I had to use the toilet which is super small and completely inconvenient for that. Downgrading my review based on the answer from the owner. Definitely a tourist trap... ---------------------- Was quite disappointed about our experience at the Tea Room today. Sure, it looks fancy and cute and the pastries are alright, but we didn't really enjoy our stay: + great variety of pastries + freshly baked/made + pretty much the only thing opened on Jan 3rd (except for hotels, ofc.) + public parking nearby - coffee, not extraordinary - asked for a flat white and got milk coffee - very small tables if you plan to eat something more consistent rather than just have coffee and cake - staff friendliness / helpfulness - our requests were not met (asked for the cheese tart to be cut, we received it uncut, etc.) - no changing space for babies

It would be a great cafe if personnel were a bit more polite and helpful. They behaved as if they were forced to do me a favor.

Very good cappuccino and delicious cake. Unfortunately it was very busy and the two waitresses were overloaded. That made the whole thing very hectic.

A lovely place to enjoy a pleasant breakfast. We went there on a Monday morning. The service was fast and friendly. The place is very well decorated and gives a nice british feeling. The food is perfect with a variety of sweet breads. Next to some small breads, we enjoyed a coffee, a hot chocolate and a tasty orange juice.

A great place to stop on the tour and have a snack.

I am currently dependent on a wheelchair due to a tumor removal. Since the entrance area is a bit narrow, my husband wanted to show the dessert selection in the shop via video phone. The two desserts I chose from the menu were sold out. He was instructed to turn off his cell phone because filming was prohibited. My husband's explanation didn't help either. I will definitely never go to this coffee shop again, with or without a wheelchair. The waiter was friendly hence 2 stars. Tamara I

Tearoom is everything in one. The finest teas. Bakery and breakfast Pastry shop with cakes and much more. beautifully equipped store 👍 The waitresses are friendly and open to requests.

Apparently my review was deleted a few months ago! Started another attempt - everyone deserves a 2nd (in this case 3rd chance). On Friday morning I wanted to sit on a velvet armchair at a long table when the restaurant was not very busy. Before I could sit down, one of the serving staff put me in my place. I should sit down at a small table that was made for individuals. Well, I left without consuming anything. Hospitality looks different to me. What a pity. Would be a nice place, but the staff still leaves a lot to be desired. It's better to spend your money in the Kafikaufbar, it's also very comfortable there.

The location is perfect and the atmosphere is so cozy and relaxing. The smell of bread in the place is incredible. The location of the coffee, the food and the atmosphere are amazing. And the smell of the place when you enter, you will feel like you are in Sally’s Bakery. If you come to this place, do not miss the promotion of “I am in Halkufi”. Regarding coffee, I don’t know how to rate it since I am not a coffee expert, but it is light and sweet

Yesterday we bought bread, spelled bread, for the first time It tastes absolutely delicious and good. I can only recommend it.

Here you can get sensational sandwiches. I was particularly pleased that the black tea can be ordered as a portion and is not served in a small "mocha cup". Very good! My family and I go here very often; the atmosphere, character and treats are what keeps us coming more and more. I often get the hot chocolate here. I personally think the salty things here are better than the sweets. It’s the type of place where you would get cozy and read all day.

English British with Queen: fine teas

I love English tea rooms. We always go again when we are in Engelberg.

We paid 20 for a soup and a tea and even wanted something else but after a long wait we weren't served even though the boss waved his hand several times!! You can see that!! After paying and walking out, no thanks or have a nice day. A bit of foreigner crap” (put it nicely)

A great place for tea, coffee or a late lunch. We ate lunch after coming off the slopes all three days of our stay here. All the food we had was excellent and everything looked and smelt delicious. Lovely ambience and friendly staff.

Charming location, delicious pastries but rude and very racist environment.

Openly racist and very rude staff. Made us get up from a table where we were sitting because someone else claimed it was their table. There was no mention of reservation or anything. In fact the people came after us. In the end also they made us feel as if we were running away with the money as they made us pay even when we were not done ordering. Overall, good ambience and food with really bad customer service.

Rude staff with tourists never going there again, not recommended at all it was a very bad experience.

Good location, nice ambience, pleasant atmosphere!

I wish I had read reviews before coming… It is a lovely tea room with horrible, and frankly offensive service. We arrived around 4 for just one tea and a couple of pastries and were reminded at least three times before 4:30 that we were expected to be gone by 5 -we even paid our bill right when they brought the tea and never saw our waitress again. Not to mention I was scolded for taking a photo out the front window of the tea room! No menus, tea, or even food was in the picture however the woman working made it clear it was not allowed. Then my mother was snapped at for looking at the decorations around the shop area. I am not sure what kind of exclusive atmosphere they are trying to create here, but if you are visiting Engleberg I would look elsewhere, it will not be the charming afternoon tea you pay for!

Have been here a few times, and it’s always been pleasant, but today had a pretty rude encounter with an older guy who works here. We were waiting for a friend to arrive and so I asked the waiter if I could see the salads inside. We walked in and I said I’d take a photo. I then took a photo of the salad to send to my friend. The older guy behind the counter then said I wasn’t allowed to take a photo. I explained why I taking the photo, and he said I needed to ask first. Tonally, he was rather hostile and rude. I then asked to take the photo and he flippantly said yes. I was pretty surprised to be talked to like that, especially since I had actually told the waiter I’d take a photo. It seems like a strange way to deal with customers. Apart from this guy, the rest of the wait staff are very attentive and pleasant. It’s a shame this guy doesn’t understand the basics of customer service.

Great ambience, excellent and unconventional selection of F&B and perfect quality, unbeatable prices, friendly service. We ate and drank: cold brew coffee (a must try!), strawberry slices (delicious), homemade herbal iced tea (very refreshing), iced coffee with kirsch (with a caramel note?) and banana split with homemade chocolate sauce (great!) and paid 38.- . Wow. The interior is very nice, the selection at the counter is appetizing and extensive. We will be back.

Had a horrible experience here. Arrived around 2 p.m. in the afternoon with a friend, and it was dead. The man behind the counter was handling the food with his hands (without gloves) and placing it on the counter, as well as simultaneously handling cash. We didn't ask for our food to go, and went to take a seat, and he screamed at us to leave, that we were take away, and not allowed to take a seat. There was only one other customer in the cafe. There was another employee, a woman, on break in the cafe and she looked shocked that he yelled at us as well. Was a horrible experience & I would strongly discourage anyone from going here.

A wonderful experience. It is ideally located on Dorfstrasse, has an elevation on which the terrace is located, so you can sit nicely and have brunch undisturbed and watch what is going on 😁😊. Large selection. Went with a friend and shared the honeymoon breakfast. Including 2 glasses of champagne 🥂... It's more to enjoy and celebrate than a big buffet for starving men. Can only recommend it 66 euros for two people.... Just enjoy the day 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥂🇨🇭🌞

Coffee culture in Switzerland again. Friendly, attentive staff. Patisserie (especially the vanilla Berliner) to fall in love with. Once you go in, you always come back. Please don't everyone come, otherwise we won't have any more space. An insider tip that, hopefully for the owners, won't remain secret for too long.
