We were there for a little snack at lunchtime. Although it wasn't very busy, Ciryl served us excellently. The Urchig only opens in the evening. But you could have a small excerpt from the menu in the Bistro Bar. The tartare was really good. What we were missing was soup, especially in winter. Superb fondue! Probably the only place in Engelberg that serves fondue for 1 person (usually restaurants require minimum 2 people ordering it). Very delicious cheese fondue made from local cheeses. Also, service was superb. Our waiter went above and beyond. I wanted some mulled wine, he said they don’t have it as they only make it in winter but he made it for me from the scratch. It was really good!

Unprofessional and worst experience : Never ever will step foot again in this restaurant. I saw the old mixed reviews but still took a risk. However it proved to be a wrong decision. We ordered two times cheese fondue one without wine and one with wine. They gave it in a single bowl with very less quantity and fully with wine which was not our order. The servers were apologizing due to the error made by kitchen. In meantime we saw all other customers having some problem or the other in terms of extra billing, poor choice of foods, etc. We made our point mid way that the quantity of cheese fondue is way too less. They ideally just made a portion and maybe little extra in a bowl and called it as two portions. Lol. The server confirmed that we will be billed only for one portion. But when we went to pay at the end, a supervisor came and she literally treated us with less respect. We felt bit embarrassed. With a tone of arrogance she told us that you completed the dish and need to pay for the second portion as well with 20% discount for second portion. The argument was never ending and we felt it was disrespectful so we paid and came out. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are other good restaurants nearby where we had cheese fondue and it was good. This restaurant supervisor should learn first how to treat the customers.

We ordered the traditional cheese fondue which came with bread, potatoes and pickles. We found the pickle with cheese a bit strange, but I believe it is typical in Switzerland. But the fondue was very tasty! We chose a great white wine.

Wanted to try best cheese fondue in Switzerland and i got advices to try Swiss Chuchi Restaurant in Zurich. But because i had less time i went ahead with booking table in Urchig. I was not disappointed. Waiter was kind to explain about cheese and the tradition of eating cheese fondue. Proportion of cheese fondue with potatoes ,bread and pickles was sufficient. Would recommend Urchig if you staying in Engelberg and wanted to try cheese fondue.

I admit that seeing the reviews I was a little scared but staying at the hotel and wanting a Fondue (yes even in this heat ;)) I made a reservation. In the end it wasn't the best Fondue I've ever eaten (I generally make it myself) it was ok, enough for 2 people. Rather expensive all the same (30.00 per person) fast service a little disjointed but let's not be painful. Our server spoke French. To summarize correctly, well eaten, happy with my evening. On a funny note, the boss (I suppose) thought we were foreigners (they spoke French) and explained to us how to eat Fondue. Staying at H+ Hotel we booked at 18h at the reception, for a 21h dinner, got there and the name wasn't even on the list so they seated us in the lounge/bar area.Food and prices are ok, bar waitress was very kind as well but by the end, they completely forgot our desserts (17 minutes for two frozen ice creams) too busy closing and cleaning..

We had a lovely time at this restaurant. We were staying at the H+ hotel. And we are thankful that they were able to accommodate a table for us as we were a very large group..and hadn’t made a reservation. All the adults had the cheese fondue. It comes with bread pieces of course, as well as small potatoes and a few vegetables. It was very nice. 30chf per person. The children had pasta. The portions are quite large so one sufficed for both my kids under 3. We also endulged in a nice ice cream for dessert ;-) It was a Saturday night and there was live music - a man singing and playing the piano beautifully. Hats off to him. He did a great job entertaining us, the kids especially, and other people in the restaurant :) Service was ok. They were packed... so let’s just say we appreciated that they made it work for us as it was very handy to be able to eat in our hotel. Next time though - we shall book in advancer. Point noted.
