Vicania in Morcote

The Vicania is definitely a pearl. We were picked up free of charge at the Hotel Relais Castello di Morcote and driven back again. However, a hike would have been just as great. The location is great and the selection of dishes is very down-to-earth and delicious. The wine selection is also impressive. We really enjoyed our short time in the restaurant and will definitely come back.

One of the most beautiful locations ever. Extremely polite staff without being intrusive. Best vitello tonnato. Followed by an excellent saddle of venison. Large portions of top quality. It is obvious that this has its price. Especially in Switzerland. But I know that beforehand. I am happy to pay a little more for this quality, this ambience and this excellent service. I paid 30 francs for a portion of Spaghetti Vongole in an average restaurant in Marcote two days before and that was no comparison to the service offered in Vicania.

A nice place surrounded by greenery, with very courteous and polite service, Italian is spoken, there is the possibility of drinking good wine and eating well in the midst of nature. Also valid for a short stop. You can also get there by car. Prices in line with the place, but double compared to neighboring Italy. Nice environment

A bit expensive but stunningly beautiful and good food

The food was good, the service was friendly. But 9 francs for a bottle of water from the tap is a rip-off of the first order. I'll never go there again. The prices are really high there anyway.

This restaurant is a must if you are around the region!! We came two nights in a row, the service is impeccable and the food even better. Being vegetarians we enjoyed the veggie option of the risotto, the fettuccini and the tiramisu. Save some space for the tiramisu as its definitely worth it !

I used to come here all the time when I was a young girl about +15 years ago to go horse riding with Jessica. Finally, I returned yesterday for a dinner at the restaurant. Obviously, the first thing I checked out was the horses at the end of the road - unfortunately, they were probably all in their little house.. Dinner was great - we had big a charcuterie plate as a starter and then some ravioli and a tartar as a main. All very nicely presented and very tasty. We came with our two dogs and there were at least 4-5 other dogs as well, so super dog friendly! The place itself is just magical - all alone in the green. No car noise, nothing. Just endless greenery. Together with the Castello di Morcote also the perect wedding location - which I dream of since I am small - but also with all the horses :-)

We only ordered a mixed cheese plate for a small appetite, but it was very tasty. The onion chutney was outstanding and new for us! Plus cold drinks and finally a glass of very good wine! The garden is great for sitting outside. The entire atmosphere is very idyllic, beautiful! As mountain bikers, we were welcomed and served very friendly. As is usual in Switzerland, the prices are very high for us Germans 🤷🏻

I can highly recommend this restaurant. The service was very friendly. The menu is interesting and the food is excellent. It was rainy weather, the rooms are cozy and inviting and there is a large sun terrace. Thank you very much, we will come again.

We had been walking for 3 hours with very demanding uphill paths and found this jewel in the middle of the mountain which turned out to be the most special meal of our trip. The gardens are as beautiful as the quality of the food and quick service

At the end of March we were able to enjoy dinner at Ristorante Vicania above Vico Morcote. Logs crackled and flickered in the fireplace, creating a homely atmosphere. We had the restaurant and the entire crew almost to ourselves and were well looked after. The kitchen surprised us with an amuse bouche, followed by antipasto crema di carciofi tiepida with uovo cotto a low temperature and petali di Tete de Hello, first piatto Ravioli di spinaci e ricotta with crumble di mela e cipolla and secondo piatto Lavarello with insalata di cavolo rosso and crema di carote allo Zenzero. We enjoyed our remaining Merlot with an aged hard cheese, courtesy of Gerente Massimo Andreossi. A dream made of chocolate rounded off the excellent meal, which was designed like a painting. With a Nocino we headed back home to the hotel in Vico Morcote. Massimo Andreossi offered us this driving service. We would like to thank the team around Massimo Andreossi and Arrividerci.

Staying here is simply good for the soul. The staff is so warm that you immediately feel at home. The garden is extremely well maintained and is a dream when the weather is great. The food is excellent and prepared with great attention to detail. The wine comes from the neighboring winery. The restaurant is also very family friendly.

Wonderful location: quiet outdoor terrace with magnificent views and rustic, elegant interiors. The restaurant serves traditional dishes with a modern twist, all presented in a simple and elegant way. We tried several dishes and they were all very good. Only I would have liked the eggnog to be less sweet and with more crumble/chutney. The staff is helpful and organised.

Perfect for a couple of cold iced teas after a long, hard day's hiking along the Via Gottardo Route 7 from Lugano. Friendly staff, a wonderful location and shady trees if you sit outside. Perfect before beginning the steep descent to Morcote.

The cozy location and the outdoor terrace were the best. The starters (e.g. cheese plate) for almost CHF 30.00 are completely over the top. The main course (e.g. polenta with braised meat) was covered in a salty sauce and not what you would expect at the price level. The service was adequate.

Beautiful location, outdoor space with tables surrounded by nature. Unfortunately I ordered the ravioli, which were very good but were only 10 small ravioli that barely covered the bottom of the plate (for 26 francs!)

A great restaurant, beautiful views and delicious food. Unless you're stupid enough to show up there at 5:30 p.m. The friendly service turns out to be an act: you are either ignored or, as in our case, simply left sitting there for 25 minutes after ordering coffee and cake. After an endless wait, we are told that it will take another 5 minutes until our order is carried out: the staff is at the table and finally has to eat something... then there are 10 employees sitting in an illustrious group eating and the same number of guests sitting outside without operation. Operations simply stand still, guests are still seated without prior information that nothing is happening in terms of service. Sure, it's a human right to eat at 5:30 p.m., but then the guest is just a nuisance. So the decent thing to do is to close the restaurant or point out that nothing is running until 6 p.m. Arrogance on the Alp, no thanks!

5 stars for the location, service and atmosphere. Minus 1 for the food - the starters and the main courses we ordered weren't that great - which was a bit of a disappointment because everything else ticked the right boxes. There were other things on the menu that I would be happy to try next time. And I will update my review accordingly. The desert looked good but we had to leave early. We Loved the place. Loved the fact that it was family friendly and animal friendly. I noticed a couple of families bringing their dogs. Service was very attentive. It is not often that someone goes out of the way to make sure that children get their food first on their own initiative. I really appreciated that. I will be back and I will definitely recommend this address to others.

We stayed on August 1st with company. Nice place, good service, friendly waiters. They have a nice garden with aromatic herbs which we think is for the chef's use, it's a shame that when we asked for an aromatic herb with a very good scent no one was able to tell us what it was 🤷‍♀️. Only 3 stars for these reasons: - we would have expected at least a small Swiss flag, given the national holiday, but instead nothing at all. Too bad, a little sad. - the starters were good, the main courses were really disappointing and above all excessively expensive. It can be improved 😉.

Fantastic experience at this restaurant last night with a group of 4 friends and 2 dogs. The location is just perfect and the food is great. Loved especially the vitello tonnato.

The food and the place are incredible but Don't go there if you are hiking and not speaking german or italian. You are not the expected and welcomed customer.

The food we had here was perfect; a vitello tonnato and a trout with different creams/sauces. They tasted exactly as the should, and the portions were generous in size. One minus was the welcome by the manager, that wasn’t very polite. The rest of the personal was very nice though.

the place is very nice and pleasant, tables on the grass. the food on the contrary was not tasty at all and very very expensive. gespacho was sweet, the fish was excessively small and dry, and the guancetta portion was returned back. we were very disappointed to say the least. there is no way I'll go back there or recommend this restaurant

It was absolutely amazing dining at Vicania. The food, ambience and service were exceptional. We had the vitello tonnato for entree and shared the roe deer for our main. It was cooked to perfection. All the side dishes were spectacular especially the caramelised chestnuts! Dessert was a chef’s special of the day. Such a special evening dining outdoors surrounded by different shades of green and to the sound of crickets. Definitely worth visiting and we shall be returning.

very expensive like almost all restaurants in Switzerland, taking into account that the Swiss franc/euro exchange rate is equal, these are the costs half bottle of merlot 75 euros of water 5 euros non-special lunch 7 ravioli on the plate 25 euros polenta and 4 slices of braised meat 38 euros and other starter dishes no less than 21 euros nice setting but only worth visiting if you work and get your salary in Switzerland

Nice and quiet restaurant. The two of us were out on the bike on Easter Monday 2022. The garden restaurant was well attended but there were still enough seats available. The first waiter said he would bring us the menu. A second waiter then told us that there was no more food at that time (1:35 p.m.). We then said that we would like to have something to drink but we couldn't place an order. Then a waitress came and said that we could only order drinks in conjunction with food (which we couldn't order because of the time). In the end we left again because we apparently weren't wanted - therefore not recommended.

Even after asking the staff several times, we simply weren't served. After 30 minutes we left again. They didn't even want to bring us a map - maybe it was because we didn't speak Italian or were wearing hiking clothes? Definitely arrogant staff, spend your money elsewhere.

We really loved this restaurant hidden in a beautiful mountain region-it’s a bit far to drive up and hard to find it but definitely worth visiting! We had such a lovely time there-amazing food and wine, the best in Switzerland.

Service, food, wine and ambience are all worth five stars. We tested the restaurant for a wedding reception. Simply the perfect choice. We are looking forward to the festival.

Up on the mountain pasture, an idyll, something special at night, pitch black night, very friendly owners, the food was good, traditional, properly cooked, but no real highlight, the venison on offer, for example. B. from Austria! Regionally it just looks different, you expect more from the descriptions of Falstaff etc

It worked for us. After a long hike we were welcomed in the afternoon and antipasti was recommended. Very fine meat platter and fantastic vitello tonnato with super-fine, crusty Ticino bread. Price-performance was right for us. Super nice location and great garden...

Great location, beautiful garden but unfortunately probably the worst service I have ever experienced. Disorganized, obviously overwhelmed and in a bad mood service staff. We asked for a menu three times at the table in 20 minutes, and the fourth time I got it myself, which apparently wasn't right either. Suddenly it said something to the effect of “…reservation…” (there were actually a few tables available). When asked “what that means now and whether we can finally order,” there was again no answer. Shortly afterwards we left. Many guests seemed to be like us. Most tried to order something but were ignored. It's a shame about the beautiful restaurant. But even a nice restaurant depends on the service.

Lovely place located in the greenery where you feel like you are far from home. Friendly and helpful treatment, quality dishes, all with a country chic touch. If I have to be critical about one thing it is the vegetable dish taken as a second course, no type of condiment or garnish but only cooked vegetables. I don't consider this a restaurant dish but rather a home-made way to eat healthy. In any case it is really worth going there and spending a special moment.
