Waldhaus in Kerns

Price-performance rather weak. We were the only guests. The heating was gurgling and there was movement in the walls at night (mice). Not even a coat hook. Furnishings from the 70s (?). Pretty exorbitant price. A real “flophouse” that thrives on its proximity to the gondola.

Dinner was excellent, delicious game dishes, also vegetarian and the hosts were very accommodating, flexible and friendly. Thank you!

We wanted to get out of the city and sleep in the fresh country air and this was the perfect place. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and the cable car to Melchsee, etc. is just across the street!

It is such a wonderful experience to stay far from the bustling and bust touristy area. The hotel is the only hotel with a cozy rooms. I was skeptical at first as the bathroom is sharing but my husband had choses this already. So, I was expecting worse but to my surprise the bathroom is exceptionally clean. All I can say 5 star for cleanliness. They even clean our rooms whenever we go out for the day. The owners are friendly too, they always prepare our breakfast early in the morning. They do have a restaurant too on the ground floor. This olace is adjacent to a cable car with skiing and all the other activities. I would highly recomment this for anyone.

Thanks to the apple strudel I got stomach cramps and a feeling of nausea. The strudel wasn't fresh and smelled funny. When we responded, we were only laughed at and rejected with the answer: "This is impossible - they sell 1000 portions a day".

We went to the restaurant for dinner with a youth group. Super friendly service and everyone really enjoyed the food. The chicken was very fresh and the herb butter went well with it. The salad dressing was also very fresh! The dessert menu also left nothing to be desired. Thanks!

Pretty shaded terrace which invites you to relax there... and that stops there! The service is so rude and unfriendly that it just makes us want to leave. Too bad... I won't come back again.

Despite few guests, service is stressful. Friendliness well... Service seems to have little service experience. The prices are still rather high. Fries were unseasoned. The love for food falls by the wayside.

Sunny terasse in the afternoon, fast service. The veal steak with mushroom sauce was really nice. Friendly although a bit overwhelmed staff.

Regarding the restaurant, the food is fine but the prices are high. We were amazed that it is not possible to get water for free!

Unfortunately, our ski days were overshadowed by an accident (concussion) on the first day. The host couple was very helpful and understanding, including regarding our early departure. We felt “taken care of” with you. Not a given, thank you very much!!!! The hotel is rustic and cozy, we would love to come back.

There were 2 seats during the telephone table organization of 35 guests making dinner reservations. I had to eat at the end table for a change!! ... And because of this reorganization, the 2 forgotten guests had to take a different menu to have a place at the table in order to eat!!. It's clear there: the service managers can't do the math when making reservations! At this top, a telephone table reservation for 15 people was also organized, and the guests also found an organized table of 8 people!!

Bad and unprofessional employees

The friendliness of the staff leaves a lot to be desired. We were served quickly and the food was also served quickly. When I asked if I got a children's portion, the server's daughter just shrugged her shoulders. When paying, I mentioned to the waiter again that the portions were extremely small, so even a child wouldn't have enough. But he just said that you couldn't expect more for CHF 14.90. But I think it's a proud price for two Wienerli and five French fries.

Simple, friendly, comfortable, and perfectly convenient for Melchsee-Frutt (especially if you have little ones). Good restaurant.

Unimaginative and no longer up to date. Schnitzel and cordon blue like German rest stop 'kwität': dry, flat and simply fried in a pan. Your luck: top location otherwise there would be no customers after a year.

Unfortunately you can only give a minimum of 1 star, otherwise it would be -1 star. Unfriendly service, hair in the food, don't understand what gluten-free means. Never again, just terrible.

I ordered food here. The spaghetti Napoli was good, but my Aromant didn't come, which was very disappointing! Otherwise a passable restaurant.

One star is even too much because the staff was unfriendly and didn't listen when you wanted to order something.

Very nice service, simple but very good dishes. Crispy hot fries, chicken wings with fine house sauce and perfect schnitzel. Even farmer’s bratwurst from the region. Directly from the slopes into the warm restaurant, highly recommended.

Service was okay, prices are just high, as is often the case here in beautiful Switzerland, you pay the view surcharge. Apple strudel was warm, but unfortunately an industrial product, so points were deducted.

Restaurant not recommended. Food really very banal. We ordered a children's portion of pasta (8.50, without sauce, cheese, garnish or anything else) and a sausage/cheese salad. I could have done both better as an amateur chef. Above all, there was no sign of the cheese apart from the three small pieces

Very unfriendly staff with inappropriate sayings. (Older lady with long black hair) A surcharge must be taken into account for a little more sauce. Tap water costs 3.5.- Wanted to cash in immediately after eating. I just don't recommend this place...

Freundlichkeit ist ein Fremdwort. Essen absolut lieblos, fad und kalt. Preise, für die Menge und schlechte Qualität, enorm überrissen. NICHT EMPFEHLENSWERT.

Great people 😀, great environment

Last Sunday we had warm drinks and Gipferli here in the morning and a small dinner in the evening. The lady who served was very friendly and accommodating. Basically we wanted to have a real breakfast here, but the offer somehow didn't fit the price of over 18 Fr/person. Otherwise everything was ok. The menu is small, there is nothing special, but the food was okay and the staff was very friendly. ..The whole house is quite old, but the restaurant, the terrace and the toilets were clean.

Wir waren diesen Winter zum Schlitteln mal wieder auf der Frutt. Das Mittagessen nahmen wir hier ein. Das Personal wirkt sehr gestresst und sehr unfreundlich - obwohl das Restaurant nur zur Hälfte voll war. Sonderwünsche werden gleich abgeblockt - oder angerüffelt, dass das Zusatzkosten verursachen werde. Die Speisen war schliesslich ok.Das ganze Haus ist in die Jahre gekommen. Wäre das Lokal schön sauber und gepflegt würde das eher dem Haus einen gewissen Charm verleihen. Leider ist dem nicht so. Der Boden klebte, die Tische waren nicht sauber, Geschirr mit abgesplitterten Kannten, Toiletten nicht gereinigt und stickig. Sehr schade - da das Lokal an einer tollen Lage ist - Aber leider einmal und nie wieder.

The owners and sraff are very nice. Great location right on the gondola that's what mashes it so attractive. You literally ski into your room. For a budget traveller it is nice and neat and clean. No amenities nothing. Not even shampoo. Bring your own. Rooms are big and specious and views are lovely. Shower fosset could have been replaces to something better. That is if you take the in room toilet and shower. I almost ended up with a shared one :/

This is an excellent value for money basic hotel. Separate WC and showers, but clean and lots of hot water. We stayed in a family room, half board and ski pass for an amazing price. Excellent food, just don't expect modernity or posh rooms. Friendly helpful service.

The restaurant is not really recommended. The selection of food is very limited and the prices are quite high. Unfortunately, the quality of the food cannot make up for the price.

Simple restaurant, the service isn't exactly the fastest, but if you have a room it's better if you have your own room. The rooms are clean, comfortable, the shower and toilet are shared. But generally satisfied

Upon request, we were given cheese fondue at lunchtime. And there were potatoes and bread, Silberuwiebeli and Gürkli. It was great and the service was courteous and friendly. My dogs were also welcome. We will be back.

Eigentlich ist es ein sehr schön eingerichtetes Restaurant mit freundlichem Personal. Jedoch gab es da diese eine Dame mit den etwas dunkleren Haaren. Sie weiss nicht wie man putzt oder man Kunden freundlich ansprechen soll. Die Tische waren nicht sauber und das Geschirr war kaputt. Dazu kommt noch, dass man für eine "Heisse Schoggi" mehr als 20 Minuten warten muss, obwohl kaum Gäste da waren. Also wenn man nicht sehr viel Zeit hat und einen Snack-to-go haben will, ist dieses Restaurant sehr empfehlenswert, denn für kleine Sachen muss man nur etwa 15 Minuten warten. Ich freue mich auf den nächsten Besuch bei ihnen und werde mehr Zeit dafür einrechnen.

Terrible service, totally unfriendly staff.We were a group of ten people and seven of us got something, three of us didn‘t want something straight away. A waitress told those three: „This time you can stay here because your friends bought something but next time I will throw you out and I will be heavy-handed!“. Unbelievable.Everything is overpriced and we didn‘t even get a receipt. Such a pity that in this beautiful view there is a place like that. I will never visit this place again.

Bedienung ist sehr unfreundlich. Nicht sympatisch. Nicht empfehlenswert und eine Geldabzockerei dazu.

Erstens: ÜberteuertZweitens: Nehmen wir an wir kommen zu zehnt ins leere restaurant. Alle nehmen etwas, ausser jemand. Da sagt doch die Kellnerin dass man, wenn man nichts kauft rausgeschmissen wird. Ich meine... das restaurant war LEER!! Was kommts da drauf an ob einer weniger oder mehr etwas kauft!!

Always great when it's a ski weekend

Food OK but not outstanding. Service rather unfriendly. Had to pay extra for supplement (aftercare). (Apple sauce for Alplermaggronen. The bowl provided is far too small for such a large portion). Staff reacted rather cheekily when asked.

Stayed week. Great with great facilities. Close too gondalas. Great view with snow covered mountains. Meals were great!

Service very bad! Had to wait a long time for food and even longer for the bill. The food itself wasn't great either... I advise everyone in this ski area to either take something with them themselves or visit another restaurant

My experience at the Gasthof Waldhaus gave me strong concerns about the necessary friendliness of service staff. Some of the staff were very unfriendly: someone who accompanied us to our meal was sent out of the restaurant by the waitress. The Älpler macaroni did not contain bacon and was therefore a few flavor levels lower. Caused by the macaroni, you could hardly enjoy the rest of the day due to stomach and intestinal bloating. Problematic!

For the price-performance ratio, we were offered simple but very clean and friendly accommodation. We had half board, both breakfast and dinner were very good every day. Drinks with dinner are not included in the price. We were in the house over carnival, the house was relatively empty.

I can't recommend the restaurant, the food tasted very poor, and complaints were rudely responded to.

Lovely cosy guesthouse right by the Seilbahn to go skiing. Dinner was fantastic: 4 course homemade meals and friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

We had to wait 15 minutes and the waitress spoke poor German. And is not guest oriented.

Wir haben mit einer Gruppe vom 11 Personen im Waldhaus übernachtet. Die Besitzer sind leider nur dreist! Der Preis CHF 70 pro Person schon ziemlich hoch angesetzt, für dases im ganzen Haus nur je eine Dusche und zwei WC für Männer und Frauen gibt. Das wäre ja okay wenn, das Personal und die Besitzer nicht einfach nur darauf aus sind ihre Gäste anzuzocken! - Wir haben vor dem Nachtschlitteln an der ausen Bar ein paar waren Getränkekonsummiert. Insgesamt genau 28. Auf der Rechnung waren am Ende aber plötzlich 96!! bei 16 anwesenden Personen und ca 45min Konsumation ziemlich viel, damit wir noch hätten Schlitten fahren können! - Zudem haben wir eine Aperoplättli bestellt für 16 Personen, dabei waren 4 verschiedene Fleischaufschnitt und ca 100g Käse! Alles nicht wirklich gute Ware... Aber hätte anfänglich vor Reklammation 14 CHF pro Person gekostet! Ja und beimAbendessen gings dann weiter. Das Servicepersonal, alles andere als kompetent, hat nach Nachfrage bestätigt das, dass Racelette a la discretion sei, am Ende des Abends durften wir dann aber noch CHF 60 nach bezahlen für mehr Käse! also Käse von der allergünstigsten Sorte und null Geschmack! - es gibt noch mehr Storys aber die lasse ich jetzt bleiben. und empfehle einfach dieses Gasthaus zu meiden!

La terrasse était agréable... le reste beaucoup moins! Iced coffee servi seulement avec de la glace et sans café liquide (bon...une glace au café donc). La serveuse qui nous prend pour des touristes et nous dit qu'en Suisse c'est ainsi qu'on le sert (j'habite depuis 10 ans en Suisse et c'est la 1ere fois que cà m'arrive!). Apfelstrudel dégueu... et le pompon: 50cl d'eau du robinet facturé 3.50Fr!!! C'est sûr que c'est tellement arride dans le coin, l'eau est une denrée rare! Bon ben... quand je reviendrais skier à Melchsee l'hiver prochain, c'est pas chez eux que j'irai boire mon vin chaud!

Schön gelegen mit angrenzendem Wiesland und direkt gegenüber der Bergbahn. Freundlicher Service. Gute Glace-Desserts und feiner Kaffee. Saubere aber kleine Toilette.

Very friendly welcome, top service, delicious food. Always my pleasure. We are already looking forward to the next visit. Highly recommended for normal people who can cope without glamor. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are nicely decorated.

We received a very friendly welcome and were served very courteously. The mattresses are very comfortable, you sleep well on them. The decor is very rustic and needs a facelift. The house has its charm, but for the price the furniture and furnishings could be a bit higher quality. Some things didn't work properly (lamps, flushing the urinal). The morning meal was good but rather average.

Ja nach mehreren Jahren war ich wieder mal auf der Frutt und somit auch mal wieder im Gasthof Stöckalp bei der Bahnstation. Unglaublich was hier geboten wird. Die Suppe war nur heisses Wasser mit Spuren von Gewürz. Bedienung nicht freundlich. Am besten macht man einen grossen Bogen um diesen Gasthof.

Friendly innkeepers who opened the kitchen especially for us and prepared a simple but tasty meal. Certainly not a gourmet, but absolutely fine if you're waiting to continue your journey to Melchsee.

I completely agree with other comments about the bad service and poor food. The staff looks not well organized and stressed up. For the food i wonder what happened in the kitchen because in my plate was absolutely fabulous: never had such a tasty "Älpler magronen"which normally i like very much...but maybe my dog would like it this version...for the other meals i let you try yourself :) Anyway this restaurant belongs now to my black list!

Petit restaurant sympathique et convivial avec une belle terrasse ombragée l'été, un personnel accueillant, des plats simples mais bons, situé juste à coté de la remontée en télécabines, près du parking gratuit. On nous a proposé spontanément de l'eau pour les chiens.

If you have not one, not two, but 7 weeks of vacation, I highly recommend the Waldhaus Restaurant. They have the unique opportunity to count up to three billion together with their friends in a "beautiful atmosphere" without their food already being on the table and without the waitress losing rhythm while counting. Highly recommended for people without: hunger, clock, sense of time, friends

Wir haben dieses Gasthaus mit einer kleinen Frage betreten, die wir gar nie stellen konnten, weil wir statt einer Begrüssung nur eine wütende Äusserung der Kellnerin zu hören bekamen, dass sie offenbar unter Zeitdruck sei und wir uns nicht in ihrem Arbeitsplan vordrängen sollen. Daher verliessen wir nach einem zweiten Anlauf, der ebenfalls von der Kellnerin abgewiesen wurde, das Gasthaus wieder, um der überlasteten Bedienung keine weiteren Umstände zu machen. Diese Form von Kontaktverweigerung den Gästen gegenüber rechtfertigt die ungenügende Gesamtwertung, auch wenn die Speisen möglicherweise gut sind und die Terrasse hübsch aussieht.

Am Fusse des Melchsee Frutt liegt die Stockalp, ganz in der Nähe der Seilbahn befindet sich das Waldhaus Stockalp. Das äußere Erscheinungsbild entspricht dem eines typischen Schweizer Wirthauses. Vor Jahren gönnte ich mir hier ein Käsefondue, das mir in guter Erinnerung geblieben war, so das einem erneuten Besuch nichts im Wege stand. Wir waren zu 5, nahmen auf der Terrasse platz und genossen die Nachmittagssonne. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam, die Getränkebestellung fand schnell den Weg zum Tisch und auch das Essen ließ nicht lange auf sich warten.Ich hatte mich für Kalbsrücken mit Morscheln entschieden zu dem Pommes gereicht wurden. Über die Wahl der Sättigungsbeilage lässt sich sicherlich streiten, aber sie waren einwandfrei zubereitet und somit kam keine Reue auf. Kalbsrücken und Morscheln schmeckten tadellos. Desweiteren wurden ein halbes Grillhähnchen, ein riesiges Cordon Blue und Alpkäs Nudeln verzehrt. Leichte Schwächen bei den Nudeln, aber insgesamt ein wirklich lohnenswerter Besuch mit üppigen Portionen, die auch geschmacklich überzeugen konnten. Eine empfehlenswerte Ausflugsgastronomie.
