An incredible gastronomic experience in Zermatt! Our party of three tried several different dishes over the course of the dinner. Each one was unique, complex and so well executed! We loved every bit of it! The chef came out to greet us, the person who made our drinks came over to make sure everyone was happy and the server was so friendly and attentive! We’ve had lovely meals In Zermatt thus far but this was arguably the best of them. We are very grateful for this amazing experience.

We are foodies and been all over the world and tasted many different cuisines, and this is by far one of the best restaurants we have had the pleasure to dine in. Everything we had was full of flavor and perfectly balanced. If anyone deserves a Michelin star it’s this place . The owner and all his employees are very friendly and very service orientated. A big recommendation for anyone visiting Zermat. 10 stars

1818 is the place to go. Whether you’re an adventurous foodie or a seasoned wine connaisseur this place will fulfill and exceed your expectations. Be ready to experience the unexpected and new; chef Julio Escalante will take you on a journey through his South American roots with a menu that transmit personal experiences and development as well as careful and appropriate choice of produce. Alternatives are available for both meat and veg eaters. Having dined here many times I recommend the tasting menu, however, the à la carte also provide some valid suggestions. The wine list is extensive and suits all tastes and budgets. Service is attentive and casual, without missing the personal touch. Overall, worth the bill for both food and wine (which is reasonably priced according to market standards). Be open minded and appreciate the work behind the food, enjoy the journey.

1818 is a great experience into South American fare. The menu is unique and offers something much different than many of the other restaurants in Zermatt. The service was exceptional, attentive, and prompt. The menu offers a bit of everything. Our experience with the ceviche, chicken, and halibut was lovely. Everything was unique and tasteful. They also have a unique and well-crafted cocktail menu, as well as a large wine list. I had a mezcal negroni which was wonderful! Lastly, the interior design of the restaurant provides a cozy ambiance which adds well to the experience. Of the many great choices in Zermatt, 1818 holds well on its own.

It was the second time we had dinner there and it was as nice as the first time. Food is excellent and original and the service is wonderful. I can only recommend this place.

The food was great, no question. However, even though we‘ve made a reservation well in advance, we were the only people placed on a table downstairs, right next to the entrance of the restaurant. When asked if there would be a free table in the main part of the restaurant, staff gave us a highly implausible explanation why it wasn’t possible to relocate. My partner and me remained the only people sitting alone in the downstairs part of the restaurant even though there were still free tables upstairs when we left the venue. Even though we were offered a free drink as some sort of compensation, this experience made us feel not appreciated and second class.

The tasting menu was fantastic. 5 courses plus amuse bouche and every single one was surprising, tasty and weln presented. The service was friendly, attentif, fast and funny. I can warmly recommend to anyone that is looking for a gastronomic experience.

We had the most lovely meal here! We ordered the tasting menu and the chef was so accommodating to my allergies which I was grateful for. The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent. We had so much fun trying these South American foods. Will absolutely be returning!

Wonderful experience with a team that is obviously passionate about what they do. The ceviche, beef and cheesecake were favorites of our table…listen to the man when he says to get the cheesecake!

One of the worst restaurants we’ve ever eaten at in Switzerland. We had to send the chicken back because it was so zesty it wasn’t edible. After that the waitress was super snappy with us and refused to take it of the bill until we spoke to the manager. Terrible food and service. I’d recommend sticking to the local brilliant and delicious swiss cuisine here and avoid this place.

We had a Christmas dinner there, it was amazing . The staff was super friendly and explaining to us each one of the different plates . Suggested great wines and options . I have to say was a great experience.

If you told me to recommend a good restaurant to eat in Zermatt, it would definitely be 1818 Eat and Drink. The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere with its contemporary designed architecture and the feel of a traditional chalet. The food is a combination of South American recipes and fine dining, and is simply exceptional. The staff is always attentive to everyone and are very friendly. Everyone should try 1818 and I highly recommend the cheesecake for dessert!

The food was very good! We were really excited about the history of the house because it was built in 1818! The staff is very friendly and also the atmosphere!

My partner ordered a dish with meat for 78 CHF. All she received was a very small piece of meat with a bit of sauce with no ingredients. We were very disappointed.

All tapas style so it was great for my wife and I to share. South American style is exactly what it is. Super low key and cool atmosphere. The chicken was so good that we ordered another. The ceviche was also phenomenal. Definitely worth checking out if your in town for dinner.

We had dinner 3 times recently at 1818 where we hadn't been back for years... 2 times on the terrace and once inside. The terrace is really very pleasant and there is a very good atmosphere! Excellent South American cuisine, I particularly recommend the racks of pork belly or the ribs... fantastic! Highly recommendable address which offers an excellent alternative to local cuisine. Our visit to Restaurant 1818 in the heart of Zermatt was a surprising and very positive experience! The South American specialties to share convinced us with a wonderful taste experience. Each dish was a delight for the senses and introduced us to the flavors of South America (focus on Peru). The warm and almost familiar service contributed to a pleasant atmosphere that made the evening even more special. The ambience on the restaurant terrace was simply spectacular and the combination of culinary excellence and impressive surroundings made our visit an unforgettable evening. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Restaurant 1818. Thanks to the entire team.

Excellent surprise. We were attracted by the very original menu. The service was very good, the dishes (in the form of tapas, about 2 pieces per person) are very good and the terrace is super quiet.

My friend and i had the most amazing lunch on this hidden terrace! The food was simply (we had almost everything ahaha) the best with tasteful combinations and i was introduced to many new things , also not too spicy since the Chef and team are catering for all preferences so if you cannot handle spicy food like me this is perfect for you.The staff was so kind and and always looked after us and welcoming feedback. We had an absolutely amazing dinner here. Everything we had was excellent, and the half baked cheesecake was unbelievable. If we are ever back in Zermatt, this would be a must go to place.

The 1818 team gives visitors the magic of eating out. An extremely creative menu, an orgy of taste at its finest, a well-kept and quiet ambience away from the hustle and bustle and yet so close to the center... this restaurant is an insider tip and a top spot in the Zermatt culinary scene.

Excellent from start to finish. The lobster on house made small tortilla shells was outstanding . Ditto the house “salad” featuring mountain edible flowers, field greens and no “lettuce” with an amazingly light but tasty oil based dressing .

So delicious, we came back two consecutive days! Unique and refined take on South American cuisine. Every bite is exciting. Appreciate the use of local ingredients. Staff is extremely kind and makes you feel like you’re at home!

Very friendly service. The sharing concept was explained and everything came straight from the grill on the terrace. Each dish was explained when served and it was very tasty and fresh. The restaurant is not directly in the pedestrian zone, which makes the outdoor terrace particularly cozy. Definitely worth a visit!

One of the best restaurants in Zermatt and the entire region. One of our two favourite restaurants. We return here each year and multiple times during our visits. High quality food and a great service combined with a beautiful atmosphere. The staff members were welcoming and kind. It was nice to see a change in the menu and a complete transformation of the content. The Chefs and cooking staff greeted with a big smile and acknowledged us before we leave from their kitchen area in the middle of the restaurant. Our waiter, Jan, did an excellent job delivering his service and explaining everything while trying to sell us everything he could elegantly which is quite impressive and worth noting. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Initially incredible place The restaurant is located in an alley that, if you don't know where it is, you don't expect it, in this alley to find THIS restaurant. Very nice service, polite and helpful everyone! As for the food, we were all very pleased. We also got the vegetarian options which I think stole the show. I liked that there was continuity in the dishes. There was a very delicate flow from the mildest in taste to the strongest and most intense. I generally appreciate it when I come across this Also something else that I really liked is that the restaurant is fine dining but there is clearly a "falseness" the dishes are carefully sloppy, and the flavors of each dish are in a class by themselves.

Fantastic location in an ancient house, with super beautiful interior design by Heinz Julen. The cuisine is creatively playful, with a focus on South American specialties (the products used are locally produced). The service is very nice and courteous, but cannot quite keep up with the high level of the cuisine. Would eat there again in a heartbeat!

The food and service were excellent, the prices commensurate with the quality provided. I was very happy to find 100% South American products that I didn't think could be found in this part of the world, a very nice surprise. Without a doubt a place to return.

A place that we liked from the past years but it was a big letdown today. The service is nice but since they are short of staff, everything is super slow. We had to ask to get our order taken and wait 20mn between the starter and the main even the wine order was taken wrongly and one cocktail was being forgotten. We finish our main and nobody came for 15mn so we left. The food is extremely salty and not so great. I had the duck which was 2 small pieces with mash potatoes which was more like a soup. I share my complains with the staff and they were receptive to the critic and offered us the drinks. The room was very smoky and it felt that everybody was annoy with the waiting time. There are so many much other nicer restaurants in Zermatt.

Beautiful atmosphere and very friendly staff. We had the rib eye and it was good, but unfortunately not anymore. And for 165.-, which is the most expensive on the menu, it is clearly too expensive. I like to pay a lot of money for something extraordinary... Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio here is not right at all.

The meal was good (nothing exceptional), Very good service. However absolutely not (anymore) up to such prices, it's absurd...

Unfortunately you have to say: the food was too salty (not only the prices were salty, which is of course normal for Zermatt), but the steak for over 50 francs was not edible, the second course was a hard risotto Rice…. A big disappointment

Food was delicious and we loved the south american flare. But, we were shocked that they would only serve us bottled water. We live in Switzerland and the tap water is perfect, making people buy expensive bottled water is basically stealing from your customers. They even gave the kids their sirops with no water.. we were obliged to buy a bottle in addition to their drinks... the children's food also came out late. The chef also came out and spent time speaking to other customers next to us, completely ignoring our table, a simple hello I hope everything is alright would have been appreciated. The music was also loud and something more jazzy or something would fit so much better than electronic music. Anyways, the food was amazing and wait staff was friendly which is the most important but I took the time to write this feedback and give my opinion in the case that it might be of service. Thank you!

The food was very tasty and the service was very nice and attentive. However, the environment was quite noisy. The ambient sound is unnecessary, in our opinion.

Great ambience and very special menu

A different kind of restaurant tucked away on the main street. When we came we were able to get a table without reservation. For starters we couldn't decide between the ceviche or the octopus. We love both and went with the house favorite octopus. Would have gone with the ceviche, but she said they did not serve it with plantains or chips to eat it with. The octopus was a little chewy, but the sauces were paired well with it. We got the quail and the duck for our main courses. The duck was the show stopper of the two because it was served with Verde sauce. The quail was still great and had a great chicken pate with every bite. For dessert we went with the cheese cake. It had hibiscus powder on one side, an avocado in the middle, and matcha powder on the other side. I was amazed how the avocado slice pairs well with the different powders and the cheese cake.

Excellent food and nice atmosphere in the place, we went with a group and had a great time. We will definitely go again!!

I reviewed this place 12 months ago, and have just been back. Totally changed, great food, great staff and great evening! Better a d more reasonable. Place ok, food nice, but expect to pay circa £200 for two with wine, you'll fine better elsewhere.

Exquisite!! A new fresh and tasteful concept for Zermatt. The dishes are all homemade with fresh ingredients and the many flavors explode in your mouth creating a symphony of deliciousness! The Risotto and the Monk fish were my personal favorites. The pink rose cocktail is truly amazing, fresh and simple, would definitely recommend!

I can highly recommend to eat here. The food is soo fresh and the combination of flavours is just amazing. The influence from the Josper Grill in everydish is special in a good way. Thanks to the kitchen for the great food and to the attentive service and nice drinks Definitely recommend the espresso Martini with or after the dessert.

A great evening with family in this beautiful restaurant designed by Heinz Julen. Wonderful dishes from Josper. The starter was oysters, octopus and kingfish ceviche. Afterwards we had duck breast and a juicy rib eye steak for my father. Good and friendly service Thank you, we'll be back

Bad experience! Though started with lovely atmosphere. Polite attention from waitstaff. Limited menu items . Ceviche wonderful. Ordered the ribeye steak for my son and I . 165 swiss Francs. Highest priced item on menu . Discussion at length to cook medium . Delivered the steak raw to rare . Sent back though they cut it first so challenging to save the steak . Brought it back rare . Decided not to recook a third time . I have eaten fine steak all over the world . Never expected a mistake like this . They offered no solution or other correction. This colored our family experience here . Would not order the steak . Chefs interpretation of cooking temperature is on a scale no sensible person would use . They made no effort to correct the problem other than tell me i could talk to the chef if i walked downstairs. Over 400 francs meal . Very unprofessional in the end . Would skip this place in future.

The food was fresh and tasty, and the service was outstanding. The environment was calm and inviting; we were seated outside during a lull in the lunch rush. Our server was warm, attentive, kind, and professional, a welcome change from most of the restaurant experiences we’ve had in Switzerland.

1818 has a great burger and a quirky way of ordering it. You mark how you want to build it on the menu then the chef prepares it. They give you suggestions to the left of the ordering section. I built mine the way they suggested building the 1818 burger. I'd order it again. We got the regular fries and the potato wedges with our burgers and both were good and hot. The restaurant has a full bar with a good wine and mixed drink selection. The best part is the staff. They were great and really took care of us. If you're interested in a good burger or a drink I recommend 1818.

Best meal we had in Switzerland! We visited 1818 Eat & drink in late June when travelling. We were surprised how good were our burgers, compliments to the chef. We had panna cotta for dessert and it was also amazing. 100% recommend!

I was really looking forward to trying the burgers here, but have to say the meal was disappointing. The veggie burgers were Beyond Bill Gates burgers. The fries were overly spiced and I had to send them back and swap them for the wedges which were processed hotel catering standard. The burger was swamped in sauce and the cheese not really melted. How about a nice handcrafted burger with hand cut fries?? The side salad was meagre with a few different types of green lettuce and very vinegary dressing. The passion fruit juice was obviously cheap concentrated stuff from a carton. Interestingly my 5 year olds spaghetti was almost an adult portion. The ambiance was good, sheepskins on the benches and pleasant music. Colouring for the kids. Waitress was attentive. Not all bad…
