AFGHAN ANAR in Zürich

The food was very good. The lemon drink was absolutely the best I have ever had. Good atmosphere, service and food portions. Would 100% recommend it. Happy to pay the price for good food.

Beautiful garden. The portions are very small. The taste of the food was OK. The second time I just wanted to eat a salad. Since I knew about the small portions, I jokingly told the waitress to add a little more. The salad was crisp, fresh but tasteless. The price according to the card was Fr. 12. When the bill came it had increased to Fr. 18! And it had been a simple little salad. When I asked the waitress about it, she didn't say a word! Very unprofessional!

The dining experience at Afgar Afghan was undoubtedly first class - the flavors, textures and quality of the food were exceptional and exceeded all expectations. Every dish was a taste experience and reflected authentic Afghan cuisine. Unfortunately, the waiting times between ordering and serving the food were far too long, which somewhat spoiled the overall impression. Still, the visit is worth it for the exquisite food alone, although an improvement in the speed of service would be welcome to complete the experience.

Very nice and fine Afghan restaurant 5 minutes walk from Limmatplatz. Authentic cuisine with good and attentive service staff. The Likal is a bit loud and has tight seating. The sauce portions are a bit tight.

It was our first time and it was great. We were very spoiled with culinary delights. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. You can sit back and enjoy your stay in a cozy atmosphere. A visit is worth it, highly recommended!! Visited the restaurant for the second time now...and again ate and drank very well and felt completely at home. We'll be back a third time...thank you!!

Really good authentic Afghan food

The atmosphere is nice, it's a nice experience to sit down on kind of carpets. The service was nice and the waitress was as well. I've mixed feelings about the food. My boyfriend had Borani Banjan, and it was very delicious... but the portion was too small. It's basically just eggplants and you should feel satisfied with that, but it wasn't't really the case. My dish was Kabuli Palau: I've nothing to say about the portion, but I wasn't totally enthusiastic about the taste... quite bland. It's included a salad or a soup together with your order, we decided for the salad. It was good, but you could add more veggies! I understand Swiss prices are high, but I feel like these ones are too high for what you get.

Very Delicious, but small portion!

The Afghan Anar is located not far from Limmatplatz and offers great Afghan specialties. The menu is clear, the food tastes good, there could have been a little more sauces. The garden, decorated with lights, has flair, the interior decoration is classic, with some places on the sides to eat on the ground. We paid 90 francs for 2. Recommended.

Went with a group of five people. The atmosphere was great, interior lovely, Service polite and supportive. Having said that we found the prices for the dishes a little steep. We had the rice dish Kabuli Palau for 36 that consisted 80% of spiced rice. Taste was good - don’t get me wrong. But I feel it’s not worth 36 CHF especially considering the price increase over the last 2 years (see menu pictures). For takeaway it used to be 28 CHF what I consider as fair. Further - the ordered drinks were filled 50% differently. Maybe the bar tender just had a bad day. Generally a lovely restaurant with nice mild dishes.

Fantastic afghan cuisine experience. We had a wonderful time. the food was fresh and so flavourful. Best lamb kebab I have ever had! The stuff was very kind and helpful. Lovely experience in the middle of Zurich. A hidden gem. Yes, it's a bit on the pricier side but totally worth it. Will visit again.

Always enjoy eating here! The food is excellent and especially perfect for my vegan friend 👌 but even dining with the vegans, I miss absolutely nothing because it is so diverse and extensive. See you soon! The only criticisms are the noise and the uncomfortable lounge seats... They could be made a little more comfortable.

Tasty and delicious afghan cuisine. Vegan friendly, good atmosphere and nice service. We were four, shared 3 appetizers and each one of us had their own plate. Definitely coming back again and don’t forget to make a reservation. We went there on a Monday and it was full. ☺️

Pretty restaurant with appropriate decoration. Even if the tables are very close together. Excellent, tasty and original cuisine. However, the carafe for 2 to 8CHF is a bit excessive. That it costs money is already one thing but at this price when we also consumed wine.

A very nice place, friendly service and delicious food

I have no idea how the food is since we didn’t get a chance to taste it . Waited for 5 minutes for someone to show us a table. At the table waited around 25 minutes for a server, but no one showed up, extremely disappointed and left without even trying the food.

The food was quite good, unfortunately - like all local restaurants in Zurich - it is overpriced and the portions are very small for the price. We had a 'platter for two' and had to order another one to fill us up ☹️ Bread is also the main player here, at least that's my experience.

Celebrated a birthday here. The food is excellent, you don't have to wait too long and the service is very friendly and efficient. We sat outside in the garden, which is very cozy. Very inexpensive compared to many other “hotspots” in Zurich! We'll definitely be back!

Amazing food. Yes it’s pricey but every where in Switzerland is. The food was amazing from Starters to the Main Course. We thought it was plenty food for 4 adults. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Zurich. It’s also Halal.

The price is way too high for the portions. We were a group of 8 people and on the starter plate there were 2 dumplings, 1 piece of cauliflower and 3 slices of pumpkin. How is that supposed to work through 8 people?! Exactly the same with the main course, we weren't full at all. Definitely not worth the $65. But food would be good if there was more. Service is super slow... well...

Amazing atmosphere, service was good, appetizers were delicious (meza platters and eggplant starter), main courses were also quite good but portions were tiny. Especially the meat ball dish, which consisted of some rice, vegetables, and only three meatballs. All in all a good experience, but value for money is way off.

One of my favorite places in Zurich. The interior is beautifully furnished and the shady courtyard is a beautiful oasis. The food is always super fresh and very tasty.

Afghan Anar was simply the most beautiful oasis in Zurich. Definitely one of the best resturants we ate at during our time in Switzerland. We tried several dishes and each one was better than the other. The food is flavourful, delicious, fresh and unique. The drinks were all so refreshing in the summer heat, especially the anar juice! The presentation is gorgeous and the service was impeccable! The staff were extremely kind, helpful and pleasant. The resturant is also beautifully decorated and you learn a bit about Afghanistan through it. Would definitely recommend it to everyone and worth it.

Great food, but a really long wait

The waitresses are friendly and fast. Food doesn't fly high! Having already eaten Afghan specialties with a real Afghan who was an excellent cook, I couldn't help but compare them in view of my disappointment. Saffron flavored water is not safro icetea. The mantous had a bitter aftertaste. And the pillaf just acceptable. I don't notice any spices, the meat is good but really not a discovery (we are far from rice flavored with rose water for example)

Dear Afgahn Anar team I had the pleasure of dining at your restaurant last night and I wanted to share my experience. The food was really excellent. The flavors and textures were perfectly balanced and every bite was a delight. I was also impressed by the variety of the menu and the creative dishes on offer. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also very pleasant. The atmosphere was very inviting and I felt comfortable throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the background noise was a bit too loud and it was sometimes difficult to hold a conversation. I found the service a bit disappointing. Although she was friendly and helpful, she seemed overwhelmed with putting together the food for our group of eight. We wanted to order a variety of dishes to put on the table to share, but the waitress had difficulty estimating how much of each dish would be recommended for eight people. We then tried to make a selection ourselves, but it was difficult as we weren't sure which dishes would be best for sharing. I think it would be helpful if the wait staff had a little more confidence to make recommendations and help guests put together dishes. I Overall, it was a very nice evening with you and I would definitely recommend it to others. come back. Many thanks to the entire team for the excellent food and service.

The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The outside area is also great. There are regular tables or a lounge for dining. The tables are relatively close to each other and when the place is full it is rather loud. The selection is clear but good. We were served nicely and advised. The food was very good and less spicy than expected. When it comes to meat, it has quite a few bones and you can tell it's lamb. But it was very good and the portions of the main course were large. The deduction is for the rather high prices. Here I found the appetizer platter for 35.- for 2 to be on the upper limit. Nevertheless, a very nice restaurant with great food.

Delicious, nice restaurant. A bit tight and rather small portions for the price. Starter Bolani with potatoes and leeks had hardly any filling and tasted of nothing. The flatbread tasted good and I can also recommend the vegan Shola Ghorbandi. Unfortunately there is no vegan dessert other than baklava.

Food is delicious. But reasonably so. It’s not gonna blow your mind or anything like that. No shade. But come on. The mixed grill plate for 2 persons isn’t cheap and all you get is each 3 skewers of meat, a load of bread with a poor salad. Cut uneven and kinda looking lackluster. Paired with the fact the chicken was dry af … I don’t see it. In my opinion it’s simply overpriced. Same goes for the mixed Mezze plate. Delicious. But the price … not so sure. Staff was very friendly. Gotta say.

I celebrated my birthday here today. The food is A1! Absolute top level. The service was very attentive and the prices were decent and rather low for Zurich standards. We recommend! Great experience.

Was there to buy a take away dish at lunchtime. The restaurant was full and the staff was slightly overwhelmed, so I had to wait a long time before I could place the order, until it was handed out and, above all, until I could pay for it!!! I could have easily just walked out. Which of course I didn't do, even though my lunch time was also limited. Gone stupid. The food was very nicely prepared, tasted good, but somehow it wasn't really filling. Price/performance is therefore rather expensive.

Good food. If you're a starter in this type of food start with the Kebab. Baklava is not actually baklava here so stick with the Firni as dessert

Lovely dinner. Make a reservation because this place gets full! They have some vegetarian and vegan options of some of the dishes. The portions are a bit small but still very filling (if you are not super hungry or eat a little bit). The dessert was amazing. Very cute decoration.

Mantus for lunch @afghan_anar 🤩😍 homemade, tasty and aesthetically pleasing these Afghan dumplings with meat are worth a try (or two). Friendly service and cozy atmosphere make this a great (business) lunch/ dinner spot. Price: 28 CHF incl soup or salad for lunch.

A small menu, which is completely sufficient, the dessert menu is a bit sparse. The food is very tasty and I like the location. The kitchen is open, which is cool, but there is a strong smell of food.

Superb Afghan restaurant. The lunch menu is smaller than the full menu, so for a more complete experience you might want to check the restaurant for dinner. We tried a handful of dishes and all were extremely good. The same for the desserts. The service is fast and a reservation is recommended

We enjoyed our eat out at Afghan Anar a lot! The food was very delicious with a good mix of Afghani and oriental offerings. The Afghani friend who we took out for his birthday was delighted - he said it was the best rice and meat balls (I sadly can't recall the real name) he had since he had to flee from home five years ago...as his mum would make them 👏🏻 The service staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. It's in a beautifully and stylish decorated space. A good mix between modern and traditional combined with nice photography. Don't forget to visit the toilets ✨

I went to eat here with my Afghan friend. We weren't expecting such a busy restaurant, but we immediately noticed the beautiful decoration... we were lucky and were able to eat at one of about 5 "carpet seat tables", i.e. traditionally sitting cross-legged on comfortable oriental cushions. I was actually expecting more Afghan staff like at the food festival, the ladies who served us weren't really passionate about it, a waitress just came to our table and stared at us until we said something, EFZ won the lottery?, we greeted you the guests right?!….The food was good, but I have eaten better in some Afghan households. I think the prices are reasonable for Zurich, but I can't recommend it to families with children... The desert menu is a bit poor and for me Afghan food doesn't include alcohol! The corridor to the toilet is beautifully designed with pictures of early Afghanistan, the ceiling by the toilet is also beautiful with the lamps, but there shouldn't be any of these socially critical comics on the doors...Despite the few points, I'll definitely come back to eat there with my friend , it was very nostalgic for him!
