Akaraka in Zürich

A little nugget! First evening in Zurich, we chose this restaurant a little at random, we entered a little quickly without paying much attention to the "live music" poster on the facade. Very well received in this small establishment, we are presented with the 3 full menus for this evening, a vegetarian, a fish and a meat, it looks pretty good. The meal begins, the dishes are excellent, sometimes sweet, sometimes spicy, always with lots of taste and flavors, even the scoop of ice cream for dessert was exceptional, as creamy as I have ever eaten. But the surprise of the evening, opera songs remarkably performed throughout the meal (3 or 4 musical interludes during dinner). The staff is really very friendly.

Big surprise to find this restaurant during our business trip. Food is excellent, the staff as well, and the singer had an incredible voice! I totally recommand it.

We received a warm welcome, the food was very tasty, the portions for a 6-course menu were perfect. The service was super friendly. We felt very comfortable throughout the entire visit. The owner is also extremely warm and his singing performances rounded the whole thing off to an exceptional restaurant visit. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Completely delicious, really kind and attentive service. When there are few people, and if you feel like it, it's worth asking the manager to sing a little opera, he has an absolutely magnificent voice! An experience to do and repeat! THANKS!

Wow, my husband and I loved it! It was such a surprisingly wonderful evening. 🥰 Food: The food was very tasty. There are 3 menus to choose from. My vegetarian menu included: Korean soup, Korean leek pancakes (really delicious!), Tteokbokki (salty, spicy rice cake/gnocchi, absolutely delicious) & fried tofu (best tofu I've ever had) and glass noodles with vegetables and dessert. Just awesome 🥰 Special: The owner is super friendly and a born host. He's even a professional opera singer and then sings! 💐 During our visit he sang 2 Italian opera songs, a German one and also a very soulful Korean song that was absolutely enchanting 😊💖 Important feedback service: One of the waitresses was very friendly, as was the friendly host mentioned above, thank you very much for making us feel comfortable with you. 😊 I deeply regret having to give this feedback because up to this point our evening was truly magical. What was striking was the behavior of one of your employees (the slightly slimmer woman), whose understanding of service does not seem to correspond to the fine manners (she was also otherwise friendly except for this point) that one would expect in Zurich restaurants. Frankly, it was a bit disconcerting to see this person repeatedly paying attention only to my husband while refilling, while my glass was ignored (several times). Such a disproportion of attention clearly contradicts the principle of "ladies first", a gesture that is appreciated even in a progressive city like Zurich. A small correction in service etiquette could ensure such mishaps are avoided in the future. Because of this, I almost gave you “only” 4 stars. Please keep this in mind in the future. Ambiance: is simple but inviting. Thank you very much for this surprisingly, wonderful evening! 🙏💖 We would love to come back. And we are very happy to recommend it, but we hope that next time we will have the other waitress and the host or that small, fine adjustments will be made 🙏

The food is great! The price is reasonable. The opera singing on Friday night is amazing. And the service is friendly and kind.

I went to Akaraka for dinner and have rather mixed feelings: -The atmosphere with the singing was very interesting and the owner was very welcoming. -The dinner was advertised as a fine dining experience. I must say it was very far from such an experience. I must admitt the food was good but I would say nothing special or memorable. In fact two of the meals were served with the same sauce what in my opinion is an antithesis of a fine dining experience where one wants to enjoy a range of different tastes. Honestly in my opinion the food quality was below its price point, even for Zurich standards. -Now the real problem was the service. We booked a menu with a 'suprize' the suprize was supposed to be a glass of prosecco. We were never served the 'suprize' and when we asked the servers they didnt even know what we ment. In the end the owner apologized and said we will get it next time. I highly doubt he would even remeber us next time. -I rdered wine for my meal, (~20 euro for 100ml). The wine I was served was horrible, literally, undrinkable. It was so sour it had more in common with vinegar suggesting the bottle was simply bad. I complained to the waitress and asked for a replacement. I was given a different wine that was very good, however i was still charged for the horrible one. -We ordered 2 bottles of still water. We got one still one with gas and we were charged for 3 bottles. Honestly I do not think I will be comming back.

Great food, really enjoyed the service and the atmosphere. The only small thing that was a bit too much was the singing by one of the staff members. Singing was too loud and too often which kind of ruined the talk dynamic between my friend and me as we had small window of time to hang out. Other than that, great experience :)

Delicious food and a very nice owner. Amazing music experience. The opera songs were performed with high profesionalism and talent. The menu was prepared with a great care. You can see that someone puts his heart in it.

Delicious veggie options! Something different

Lunch menu is minimal. I don’t eat meat, but the available vegetarian options were very limited, so I picked the spicy noodle soup with shrimps. The soup was very good and it wasn’t exaggeratedly spicy. The noodles themselves were fresh and tasted great. No included 반찬 here, but you can get some kimchi and pay extra for them. The waitress couldn’t speak a word of German, and had issues understanding English, too. Their “jasmine” green tea was a 0.30ct green tea bag from Twinnings, which was literally a shame. I wished they had more authentic Korean drinks. I still have to give their dinner menu a try to give my final judgment on this restaurant, but they certainly have room for some improvement in my opinion.

Mr. Han and the Akaraka team know how to turn hospitality, great food and music into a unique experience. We like to come back again and again.

I wish I could give a better note to the restaurant, after all the service and the place itself is very nice, including the very entertaining opera singing, but let's be honest: this is a restaurant, and the food was simply sub par. The soup noodle starter was very bland, lacking flavours and complexity. The vegetable pancake was nice, but nothing to rave about: a simple kind of fritada with spring onions and a sauce to dip in...simple in taste as in existence. The rice cake with the spicy sauce was very good. Not only was the chewyness of the rice on point, but also the balance of the sauce was spot on. Next, the fried chicken was also good, moist, and crunchy with a nice sweet and salty sauce. As a main, I had the beef, which also came with rice, kimichy, and pickled vegetables. This was a big disappointment: although the beef was tender, it lacked complexity, refinement and flavours. It was like drinking decaff coffee...decent, but absolutely forgettable. The dessert, a vanilla ice cream was also not very good, and most probably not homemade, tasting like some big low brands with lots of fake vanilla flavours. All that, unfortunately, came at a very high price when included tips and drinks. While prices for food in Switzerland are generally insanely high compared to other countries, what we paid here was beyond the acceptable norm given the level of the food.

We went here with our friend and had an absolutely amazing dinner. The food was wonderful, we got the meat menu and it was so good. Also, we didn't realize that live music actually meant that the restaurant owner would periodically sing opera to us throughout the night. He was incredibly talented, and it made for a great dinner experience. I would highly recommend coming here.

It wasn't the half-baked Korean food you eat abroad, but food that even Korea would say was delicious. Actually, I didn't expect much, but I really liked the performance. We did not check out what to expect just hoped for Korean flavour. We got that. Some dishes in the Menue seem to be thoughtfully placed. In two ways. I missed any type of fruit juice to order ( we don’t drink and I like juices but well, they had good Softdrinks ) staff was very polite we just felt a bit watched ( but we came at 6 pm one of the first guests ) and for Menue service it also is to be expected that the staff checks regularly which is actually good. The menue is 5 courses kinda and tastes good, the bulgogi portion was smallish, I was jealous of the people who chose the bibimbap, luckily I had a generous girlfriend who had half the main fish dish left which actually was delicious! Desert ice cream and fruit,I suggest to take fruit of the menu as the amount of fruit was 2 blueberries and a raspberry. But debatable. The singing was impressively good, but too loud for the size of the room but concert worthy. For the people who complain about prices it’s actually a menue and u know what u order before and for Zurich it’s a very good price. 3 starters a main and ice cream for less then 70

Despite a good service and a very nice owner, the food is very average and not the best. If you are fan of the corean cuisine, there are far better options in zurich.

A family of four visited I went to a Korean restaurant because of the kids, and the taste was so good that for a moment I thought it was Korean. Very nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. I checked this later, and I was sorry for not being able to tell you that you enjoyed your coffee. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!!!!

I had a good dinner experience here, from the singing owner to extremely friendly staff and authentic Korean food. However, I did find it to be quite pricey considering the small portions of Korean street food dishes packaged as 'fine dining' and their relatively simple meal compositions. While the owner was absolutely caring, he also pushed us several times to purchase alcohol, this was awkward. Overall I would recommend this restaurant If you are coming for the lunch menu, which is much better value for money.

We had a really great time with the chef Han - the food is miraculously good with a depicted menu where you can chose between vegetarian, meat or fish. The atmosphere is really nice with the highlight being Han performing his opera singing skills. Highly recommend!

Great food, service and atmosphere. A really special place. The only thing I don't like is something that is unfortunately very common in Zurich nowadays: a restaurant that is full, and anyway want to charge you if you cancel your reservation with less than 24-hours notice. As if they were not going to find guests for the seats you had taken. But well... a lot of places are doing this... Still, a place to recommend, a great experience.

My friend and I were really looking forward to trying this Korean restaurant after seeing all the great reviews. Unfortunately I won’t be returning to this restaurant after my dinner experience today. - Inappropriate attitude. We were greeted by a gentleman who seemed nice and kind, but things turned awkward quite quickly as he started asking my friend very personal questions, trying to guess her age/religion/workplace and where she lives. My friend was extremely uncomfortable and tried to politely deflect, but it wasn’t successful. - Dubious menu. The dinner menu was labelled “Fine Dining” set menus, with only three options. I’m sorry but the menu choices were…interesting at best. Appetizers included street food snacks that I can probably get for a couple bucks in Korea. Sure, I wasn’t expecting over the top luxury menus, but I wasn’t expecting street food snacks… - Underwhelming food. I really wanted to love the food but my friend and I had to leave without finishing the course. There were also no accommodations for food preferences, sensitivities or allergies. And, he pushed us to get an alcoholic drink despite our response that we do not wish to drink. After some more push, my friend reluctantly ended up ordering one. The wine wasn’t great either, according to my friend. I hope my review doesn’t come across as unkind, and I tried to be as constructive as possible. Hope these points are helpful for the improvement of the restaurant.

Worst experience of my life. This is the first negative review of a restaurant I have left in my entire life. The owner kept on pushing me to order alcohol and asked extremely personal questions!! I felt harassed. A glass of mediocre white wine was 15chf , practically dolder grand prices, but of course not dolder grand ambience. He also interrogated me about my religion which I found extremely disturbing and disrespectful. He asked me if I went to church!! Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. We should have left then. We explicitly asked then to take two menus off the course as we had a food allergy and he insisted we would like it as we had been away from Korea for ages and completely disregarded our wishes. The food was absolutely subpar, he is selling korean street food packaged as “fine dining” conning non-natives who have no experience or knowledge about Korean food. This is the equivalent of selling mac and cheese or a hot dog packaged as “fine dining” because he knows his audience has ZERO CLUE. The menu we received was worse than 시장음식 in presentation and quality. Me and my friend laughed when we saw the 떡볶이 dressed up as some kind of fine dining menu. It almost felt like a gross parody…..We expressed our displeasure and left in the middle of the course menu. The owner did not take the items off the final bill and charged us for the items we explicitly said many times we did not want. I believe the positive reviews from other asians are for the lunch menu… especially for the noodle soup. the positive reviews for the dinner menu must be from his church buddies!! We left hungry and 90chf poorer, and had to go to an another restaurant to eat satisfactory food. DO NOT GO THERE FOR THE DINNER COURSE MENU, IT IS A TOTAL CON.

There were four of us and we really enjoyed it. The food was very good. The service was also very attentive and friendly. There were 5 menus to choose from on the menu. I had black beans with pasta which was delicious. The only thing I would like to note about the drink is that we would have liked to have had a glass of red wine with our meal, which was also possible, but at a very high price for me. (my threshold for a glass of wine is 12 CHF), the wines on the menu for open wine were from 16 CHF... but I can't decide on that because I didn't order any open wine. We then decided on a bottle of red wine, which for 4 of us was about the same price as it would have been by the glass... BUT it was worth ordering the bottle because the wine was at the right temperature and of excellent quality.. .all in all it was a very nice and great lunch at Akaraka!!!

It's been a while since I had a good meal The chef took great care of me I went for a meal and came back with a warm heart. The unexpected congratulatory song was very touching. Eaten very well. Unfortunately it only had menus. The service was very nice and attentive. The ambience was elegant. There was a tenor who sang some songs in Italian and Korean.

A great experience. I wouldn't go to the restaurant just to eat. However, a singing show from the chef himself including short stories is included. It's humorous and friendly. If you're looking for a quiet spot to spend time together, you're in the wrong place here. The food is solid and leaves few questions unanswered. The wow effect didn't really happen; unfortunately the noodles were a bit too oily.

Very good Korean food (comparison: I lived next to Toronto's Koreatown for 3.5 years). The singer sang two or three times, for about 10 minutes each. He sings very well. Because it's relatively short, it still allows for a lot of conversation. If you've never had Korean food, be aware that some of it is spicy.

We went to Akaraka for dinner this evening. We were surprised to find that there were only 3 menus to choose from (vegi, meat, fish) for CHF 60 each. The food tastes like nothing - the best, the fried chicken (unfortunately only 2 small pieces). The main course - we had fish and meat - has no taste and is (meat) very dry. The fish swims in an indefinable sauce. There can be no talk of fine dining here. The side dishes for the main course were simply a disappointment, as were the starters. The service is not up to par for a so-called fine dining restaurant and is sometimes incompetent. The boss's vocal performances are certainly nice, but for the price you should get a little more taste on the plate. Unfortunately a very big disappointment - the very good reviews do not match reality.

Very good taste of the food. The honey chicken, excellent. The service of the waiters and the owner were very attentive, on several occasions they gave us their recommendations. The atmosphere is livened up by the owner of the premises. She performs opera songs, with a soprano voice. It is very pleasant to listen to it with the alternation of each dish that arrives at the table. If you are in Zurich and want Korean dishes, Akaraka is a very good recommendation

way too expensive.. sorry, the only thing that was good were the rice noodles (6-8 pieces) and the Korean chicken (2 small pieces) but that was so untrue. The main course was really tasteless and NOT tasty (would never have ordered that) but unfortunately you can only choose between 3 menus! You think for 69.- the menu you can expect something, but we only got a small aperitif portion or better said "bites" In the end we paid 165 for two people for nothing “wanted” and nothing special. You offer an expensive offer, so you can expect something, but on the contrary, the way I see your answers in your reviews, I have to honestly tell you my opinion. I'm a trained chef myself and I eat out a lot with my wife and I've never had anything like that experienced! and I rarely write negative feedback! That's a disgrace, sorry final conclusion: It's not worth it for the price, if you eat somewhere else you'll get more of it!

This was exactly what I was looking for - the bibimbap was perfect (take the beef). The restaurant is beautiful and simple and the menu is very short (that's a good thing in my book).

Korean food in 40 days To be honest, I've been to Korean restaurants twice in Spain, and I was so disappointed in all of them. This place is so delicious. I highly recommend it. We ordered 3 stone pots and bulgogi, and it was really delicious. The jjamppong soup that the owner gave me as a service is really, really delicious. May you prosper and become rich^^ When I visit Zurich again, I want to come for dinner and listen to your song. Thank you.

My favorite place in Zurich. The menu is simple, 3 choices veg/meat/fish. The food is amazing and really taste as traditional Korean restaurant. And the service is the best I hard in switzerland so far. Thanks again to the owner for being so polite and singing for us!

The dinner at Akaraka was an absolute blast! They serve the best Korean food in Zürich and the atmosphere created by the extraordinarily friendly staff and the beautiful songs presented by Pyongchin Han was amazing! He even sang for my fiance's birthday! I definitely recommend this place!

We didn't know what to expect when we booked this place. It claimed to have "live music" but since most live music in restaurants is terrible, we weren't too hopeful. This place surpassed our expectations in every way. The owner and chef, it turns out, is a world class opera singer and punctuates the evening with incredible performances of operatic singing in Italian, Korean and German. The singing is exceptionally good, yet he finds a perfect balance between the time that he is singing and the time he is letting his guests dine and talk, creating a delightful atmosphere. The food — a set menu composed of multiple courses — is excellent and beautifully presented. The serving staff are also extremely professional, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with some excellent photography (also by our multi-talented host) and small enough that the host can visit each table and take the time to ensure that each guest is enjoying a truly wonderful evening. We hope to return many times.

Since we spent today in Zurich, we really wanted to eat Korean🤤 and thanks to the good reviews we decided on Akaraka! The service was super friendly!!!!😭😭 And the boss even sang two opera songs, which not only gave us goosebumps but also brought tears to our eyes! That was really really great!!😍 Korean music played before and after which added to the ambiance! And the food was great too. We had the meat menu and were very excited as we are taking a trip to South Korea in the fall. And everything was just so delicious!! As a drink we had Somaek (which went perfectly!) 냠냠 We would love to come back on our next trip to Zurich!!!🥹 Thank you so much for this great evening!

This was a Korean restaurant that I quickly found while traveling with my mom because she wanted to eat Korean food. It wasn't cheap, but it was delicious and the portion size was just right when I finished the course. The atmosphere was also perfect. Also, thanks to the song the owner sang, I came to see the performance and felt like I was being treated to delicious food. When he sang Korean songs, he sang them so movingly that not only my mother but also the Korean people at the other table had tears in their eyes. I really recommend it to anyone coming to Europe with their parents. Thank you so much for perfectly decorating our last night in Switzerland. ☺️☺️

A great experience I had on a business trip. Korean food is so luxurious... It might be a bit burdensome to visit for regular travelers or backpackers. Anyway, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, and the owner is friendly. We are somehow proud that we are the only Koreans among the customers. ^^

This is not a place where you can have a light meal for 20 to 30 francs if you crave Korean food while traveling. They sell course meals for between 60 and 70 francs. A place where you have to be quiet rather than a place where you can eat comfortably?

Authentic korean restaurant with a simple but satisfying lunch menu selection. Disclaimer: the review only considers their lunch offering, which is a small à la carte selection of complete dishes. It is different compared to their dinner fine dining degustation offering. This restaurant lives up to the expectations set up by the very good google reviews. We randomly found out this restaurant while looking for a quick and well-balanced lunch. The lunch menu comprises of a small selection of korean dishes such as different bulgogis (beef, pork, chicken), bibimbap (personalisable with egg and different meats), tofu dishes and noodles. We got a beef bulgogi, which was served with rice, a green salad and a korean potato salad; and a bibimbap, served with a portion of hot sauce. The portions were generous, and I think that there was a lot of care in the presentation of the dish! The food was also very good, and for what we paid (28chf for beef bulgogi and 24chf for the bibimbap), we got good value for our money. The restaurant itself is pretty small, with a simple but very neat and clean interior. The temperature is also nice for hot summer days, as it has air conditioning. The service was good: we were served pretty quickly and the restaurant is english friendly. Another positive note is about the coffee: they serve Caffè Vergnano. We were really happy to see the passion and dedication of the owner of the restaurant, who personally greeted customers. We found out only later that one of the strong assets of this restaurant is the dining experience, where the owner also sings opera! Sadly, we could not experience it, but we would gladly come back!

Service: I went there without a reservation (not knowing how great this place was), but I was grateful that they gave me a seat for one person. I had a bad hangover, and there was ginger tea full of mint flavor🫰 I guess not many women come to dinner alone haha. There were no candles lit at my place, so I thought about asking her to light them, but I didn't have the energy to tell her. Food: The Janchi noodles that came out first were the most delicious, and the noodles that came next were crispy and delicious. The taste of tteokbokki was slightly sweet and spicy, and since I can't eat chicken, the fried shrimp instead was very delicious. I think the main dish was bulgogi, but it tasted like Swiss meat. Swiss meat doesn't seem to have much fat. The radish served as a side dish is crunchy. The stir-fried eggplant has a light taste, and the kimchi has a clean taste. For dessert, I only ate blueberries and the berries on top. The ice cream is too sweet for me and I actually prefer fruit for dessert, so I'm sorry. Atmosphere: Relaxed atmosphere, free music💜 I had a great summer vacation in Switzerland and visited the day before returning to Singapore. I leave with happy memories. I will recommend it to my friends!

The restaurant food and service are not good disaster

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is great, the service is outstanding and the best part is the owner signing opera while you eat. One of the best restaurant in Zurich.

If you want to eat delicious and filling food in Switzerland, you can go to Akaraka. It was so delicious and clean that it was hard to believe that it was Korean food in a foreign country. I was impressed that I was able to have a great meal thanks to the friendly clerk and nice owner. Even if you feel that the price of the weekend dinner course meal is burdensome, definitely Give it a try. After eating ice cream and coffee, you will nod your head at the price. ^^
