The place was great, amazing pizza but the Italian grey hair waitress was extremely rude. The other waitress was super helpful and courteous but this old waitress just ruined our first time experience. Would not return only because of him, very sad…

Unfortunately, the service was very taciturn and even unfriendly and inattentive. The pizza was served quickly, but some of it wasn't baked properly, so the dough stuck to the plate. During the meal, no asking if everything was OK. Will avoid this restaurant in the future.

Reserved for dinner for 6 people (with reservation confirmation) The employee informed us on site that everything was fully booked... Definitely not recommended

Despite making a reservation and confirming the reservation, you were not allowed into the restaurant because everything seemed to be fully booked……unfriendly. definitely not a second time!

Good food. Service was a bit stuffy. Came to the conclusion that restaurants here only actually charge for tap water if you don't order other drinks... As this place did.

Would highly recommend this lovely restaurant. A good choice of food. Well priced for Swiss standards. Friendly service with a lovely ambiance in the evening. I would however recommend you book beforehand if it is in the ski season, we managed to squeeze a table for two , they staff were so obliging but had we been a bigger group of people it might have been harder. This will definitely be our go to restaurant when we are in Engelberg. But next time I will book ahead of our trip.

this restaurant was our favourite whilst eating out every evening over our week long trip over Christmas 23. We had some lovely food at most places - though a little expensive of course as this is Switzerland. It all came together here for us though. Excellent service, lovely fresh & tasty food - all well presented. Along with some lovely wine. A family with daughters who also enjoyed the evening..

We had to wait a long time until we could order (20 minutes). Pizza was only average good.

Typical Italian restaurant you find in Switzerland. Food is excellent, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Great pizza (gluten free pizza) , meat and fish dishes. Great place if you have different tastes, there is a good choice of vegetarian options. I can highly recommend. Book in advance in the high season.

Went early, 6 ish, so got a table straight away. Italian food.

Amazing food with just as amazing views of the mountains.

We were at Ristorante Al Monastero on Saturday with a large group including children and can only say good things about our visit. Very friendly, courteous service and great patience with the children. The food was also wonderful, the Bella Italia Pizza is highly recommended 😋 Gladly again!

This is a good restaurant for food, good for drinks, and the service is OK. Some of the staff are very attentive and friendly, whereas others don't make you feel very welcome. A good place to have dinner in Engelberg.

A very authentic Italian restaurant. The Ambiance is very cozy and the food was also to the Mark. Service was quick and the staff was also very friendly. A must visit if you are looking for a Good Italian Restaurant in Engelberg.

Despite registering our group (25 people), there was only 1 waiter who spoke NO German and NO English, only Italian. (For example, he didn't know what a coffee tresch was. Unfortunately, he had only been in Switzerland for 10 days)

Prices ridiculously high even for Switzerland (I live here, so I know how it works). Tap water at 7 francs. Quality just sufficient for an Italian in the middle of Switzerland. (In Italy with this kind of food you can close the shop after 2 weeks).

Service a little hit and miss. Quick, but then tend to get ignored. Food well serviced, but lacking in taste.

Our pizza was topped according to our wishes. Big and tasty.

We enjoyed the pizza, my wife had cheese and I had sausage. Service was a little slow but we were in no rush. The venue is a good as it gets, walking distance from the train station and next door to the monastery.

Update: Attention! “Gluten-free” pizza was contaminated!! Unfortunately, I only notice it 1-3 days after eating it 🙈 now taking medication for 3 days... this restaurant should avoid gluten-free offerings if they cannot be implemented consistently. I went here because the restaurant offers gluten free pizza. The pizza was rather large and generously loaded. The Pizza Rustica could have used a little more spice or herbs in terms of taste. The atmosphere was rather modern to cool. This affected the open room layout, the decoration, the temperature and also the operation. The prices were moderate. Pizza from 17.- to almost 30.-. A glass of wine CHF 8-9. No surcharge for gluten-free pizza. Doubt it was a gluten free dough…

+ Beautiful outdoor terrace. Friendly staff. - The quality of the food is not great, rather average. I've eaten better at the Coop in the center of town. If you are unlucky enough to have groups present at the same time, the whole thing turns into mass processing. It's a shame actually. What do you do if one day the groups don't come? Have you ever thought of that...?

I haven't eaten so well in a long time. Perfect from start to finish. The waiter was also great and I was able to bring my dog. Absolutely clear recommendation!

Al Monastero advertises gluten-free pizzas online. This restaurant is not recommended for people with celiac disease as it seems the staff have no idea what gluten free means. The mixed salad was first brought with croutons and after we gave it back, there were small pasta under the lettuce leaves in the second salad. The waiter then said; It's just small pasta... So it's not a restaurant recommendation for people who rely on gluten-free production being taken seriously.

Pizza Frutti di Mare was TOP! Napoli was mediocre (otherwise one of my favorite pizzas)

Romantic location, welcoming surrounded by greenery and with a beautiful view of the valley, tasty cuisine, attentive service. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, it's difficult to find anything missing. You will definitely be fine. Well done.

The service staff at reception and in the restaurant were extremely friendly. The dinner we chose was excellent, very fine, a compliment to the kitchen team. The ambience is great and the view of the Berger from the restaurant is fantastic. We'd love to come back

We were there in August around 8 p.m., the restaurant was full, but we got a table after a short wait. Service was very friendly and quick. Pizza and soup were very good and really fresh. Can easily be recommended.

We went to Al Monastero with the family last night. The food was wonderful and the service was very friendly and accommodating. Gladly again!

Excellent pizza, fast service despite a big crowd. No complaints.

Unfortunately we were not well treated at all. There is an old gentleman who seems to be unhappy and stressed with customers. By the time we arrived the entire restaurant was empty and just because we were with children we were seated on a very unconfortable place with other families with children too. Not good experience at all.

Always overjoyed, Italian cuisine does not disappoint

After many visits we can objectively say that the food is good to very good. However, the service is not satisfactory because it lacks the warmth that you can always expect from an Italian-run restaurant. We didn't really feel welcome and we had this experience from three different waitresses/waiters.

We were able to spend our last day of Easter holidays in sunny weather in Engelberg and enjoy lunch at Al Monastero. The food was exquisite, delicious or, more appropriately, divine. The service was nice, friendly and to our delight, which we really appreciated, “hospitable”. We'll definitely be back!

I've come her multiple times since then. This has never been as nice as the first time. They stopped doing their menu. The staters are very good but the mains are a bit disappointing, although still rather good. Old review: I went there only once, chosen by a friend from Google Maps. We had the 4 courses menu, 65 CHF with four glass of wines! A really good deal. Everything was very good, although the lamb could have been better (it was good but not as good). The provided wine was good and well chosen.

Delicious pizzas on a sunny terrace with a view of the mountains.

Ordered a pizza there, to take away (as they were full). The pizza was pretty good, however we had to wait for 20 minutes over the time agreed, despite the fact we ordered more than one hour and half in advance. Note that they don't do "family pizzas" to take away, as they don't have big enough boxes they said. We proposed to split it to make it fit in the smaller take away boxes, but for some reason they refused.

Service was very slow and had very few people

The absolute top class!! I was finally here at the end of summer 2019 and ate an absolutely very good and fresh pizza here in the evening. Plus a fresh salad! Then add tiramisu as dessert. Everything here has been freshly made at home with love, and you can feel it! After twelve years of visiting Italy, I have never eaten such good and fresh authentic pizza outside the Italian borders. Very rare! That means you get the original here! Staff absolutely very nice!! Here we work with heart! I would go here just to eat pizza ;-)

Despite that some reviews complained about lack of service and tasteless food, we made a reservation and went to Al Monastero. We were not at all disappointed. Although the restaurant is big, and crowded, and there were only three waiters, service was fast and correct. The pizzas were really nice too. And for Swiss standards, the prices are ok. I strongly advice to make an online reservation at least a day before.

The atmosphere was chill, i liked it. The waiter was also kind and patient. The food there is amazing, me and my mom had the lobster pasta and it was delicious 💞

The food is very fine. However, the operation is sometimes a disaster.

Not recommendable. The service was catastrophic and unfriendly. Unfortunately the food came cold. They forgot my salad. When we paid, the salad was on the bill. When we told them, they packed us a salad to take away and it was really cheeky.

Not recommended. Very dilapidated hotel. Not suitable for single people and couples. There are tons of children everywhere in the dining room, there is a children's playground and in the hotel. The price-performance ratio is not right at all. No soft eggs for breakfast. Not recommended.

Scaloppina al limone is simply heavenly. Very friendly staff, nice location. The tiramisu, however, was a big disappointment. A failed variation instead of a traditional tiramisu, enriched with a plastic splinter, so it's hardly homemade. I would definitely come back!!... But definitely without tiramisu

It was sensational! The food was great and the service was very friendly. I ate the homemade ravioli with eggplant filling, which I can only recommend. I will definitely come back.

A good choice for lunch or dinner after visiting Titlis Peak. The restaurant is spacious, has a nice atmosphere and good service We liked their spaghetti There is parking nearby, a minute or two walk

The food is very excellent While the service is average

Dishes are expensive above average and not to our taste. A chicken dish with potatoes was dry and uninteresting. The pizza is not thin and crispy enough. Risotto and ravioli have anemic flavors. Although we were seated inside, flies circled around us and on the plates throughout the meal. Very disappointing.

Geat Pizza, but they do offer Pizza with pineapple(which of course is a minus point). They put the salami under the cheese, which just doesn't feel right, but the taste is unaffected by that.
