Bierlialp in Engelberg

A rare service for Switzerland. Interior, food presentation, service, cleanliness. There is also a children's menu. It would be nice to add a photo to the menu that is on the street for visitors. Or leave this menu on the street for tourists. Photos attract the client.

A great place to eat. Pizza from the wood oven are delicious, meats are well prepared and cooked. Excellent value for money. The food is great and the staff is friendly and competent. Great choices of food, they have plenty choices all taste and requirements (lot of vegetarian options). I can highly recommend.

I'm a repeat visitor here and it's always great here and I always get good service!

Just wanted a quick drink around 1230. Were rudely rejected. I don't think it's the best way. There was no solution. Wanted. So no beer in the Bierlialp🤨

Very tasty pizza eaten - various special pizza variations are on the menu. Price-performance ratio is totally right. Service could be a little friendlier.

We ordered three pizzas to pick up. When I entered I immediately regretted not having reserved a table. Ambiance was great, as far as I came into contact with the employees they were all friendly. The pizzas were also very good at home. Certainly not the cheapest but certainly very good quality. We'd love to come back but eat in the restaurant.

Really good all around. Make sure you have a reservation though. Even if they have space (or appear to) if you don't have a reservation you won't be seated (then or even later)

Steak was great, only if the waiters had manners. Visited in a not so busy evening - but somehow they seemed to not care. House wine is really bad, pls don't order.

Something on the menu for every taste, authentic service, very pleasant

We made reservations in advance, but there was still no table ready for us, luckily we got a table anyway. The service was bad! No drinks were poured, despite the fact that all the drinks were empty, we didn't ask for new ones, the specials were handed out carelessly and we also had to ask twice to order desserts. The restaurant wasn't full, so we don't understand this... The service is sometimes the flagship of a restaurant that does not appreciate the delicious food here. It's a shame for the great work in the kitchen...

We are very disappointed. We made a reservation but when we arrived the restaurant was closed! It was on a Thursday but we don't understand why you can still reserve it?! Such a joke.. but this led us to discover another very great restaurant, thank you very much for being closed.

We have NEVER eaten such good meat. My friend had the bison and I had the ribs. It's as unbelievably delicious as we've ever eaten before. Plus a good size of potatoes which are also very, very good. Absolutely to be recommended. Anyone who is in this area, reserve a table and don't miss out. We will be back.

The restaurant was very busy and loud. The waitress hardly had any time and we had to call several times to order new drinks. The food ranged from very good to mediocre to lukewarm meat. 6 people with partly the same food. After paying, neither a thank you nor a goodbye. Very unfortunate. Maybe it would be better not to overcrowd the restaurant and to be able to take time for the guests.

Good food, service and ambience. One of the few restaurants that was open after 8 pm in Engelberg on a Monday night. We had a good time..

The location on Google map says opening Time is 5:30pm, as an owner you should respect that or edit it. Moreover, employees saw us standing in front of the door but did not bother to tell us that they need 30 min more to open. We left, but this gives me a good indication about the type of service they provide.

Food was okay. Unfortunately there is no menu for beer and open wine. 1dcl for 10 euros is very steep. Tap water was reluctantly served for 7 euros. Very expensive:-(

We had lunch menu at noon, pizza and salad, chicken with rösti. Waiter was not kind, he did not ask us to order anyhing else, coffee or dessert. Unfortunately we forgot to check the bill and we paid someone else's order, because we paid water instead Cola, we ordered beer so nothing was right in the bill. We do not offer this restaurant.Take care of paying.

The restaurant is beautiful and we have eaten there more than once since 2011, but unfortunately they have a tall employee who is very bad in dealing with him every time we meet him, which forced us to leave the restaurant when we saw him.

We received a very friendly welcome and the service staff was very attentive and courteous the entire time. We were a little disappointed with the food, especially the pizza, which even came from a stone oven. In terms of taste, it was a bit on the bland side. This also applied to the other supplements. The fillet was cooked to perfection and good.

Pizza was ok. A little too wet for a stone oven pizza. I could overlook that. The service was unfriendly. And the pizza to take away was completely carelessly wrapped in aluminum foil so that when we got home, everything was in a heap. Other guests received them in a pizza box....?

Picturesque restaurant, with a welcoming atmosphere. It has a very varied menu, with meats from different origins, pastas and pizzas.

The food is fine. I recommend going to Almonestero, even if it's the same owner, the pizza tastes better at Almonestero.

Very unfriendly reception/service. We were asked to leave our (city) backpacks and coats at the entrance. Although there were plenty of free seats, we were seated so that the waiter always bumped into the chair. No greetings from the waitress, Pizza ok. We were at Bierlialp for years. Not anymore.

The food was ok but the waiter was very unfriendly...Although the restaurant wasn't very busy, all the tables right next to ours were occupied by the waiter. We probably won't come again.

I didn’t really want to eat beef for lunch. Seeing that the pizza chef was an authentic Italian, I ordered their tuna pizza. It scored 4.1 points. The onions on the pizza were well processed and there was no choking taste from the onions. It tasted sweet. Good review. !

The food was good, and given the prices it should be too. Everything else is miserable. After 30 minutes we got something to drink. This was only because I waved to the waiter for 5 minutes to finally take an order. The same game for ordering food. We would have liked to order something else afterwards, but didn't want to wait another half hour. Good decision, because we had to wait another 20 minutes to pay before we could even order the bill. Atmosphere incredibly loud. That's my experience.

Eat good. Service, yeah. Sharing a pizza costs 5Fr. extra. You can't top pizza differently because it's not on the menu😱 Spaghetti instead of penne isn't possible, guess why... because it's not on the menu. The chefs always work without gloves and are very unfriendly. Not on the map. Drink water... the staff's mood is going towards 0... we shared the water... that's just because it's the only pizzeria in the village. Children's menus are too big and sharing costs extra... It's perhaps standard in holiday areas... but I don't think this is ok given the prices.

We were welcomed very warmly and the food was brilliant. The beef entrecôte was fried to perfection and the taste was sensational. What I unfortunately missed was that no one asked whether it tasted good or whether everything was OK. Otherwise great

Restaurant itself ok, homely good atmosphere, food came quickly, although the spare ribs were completely soft and overcooked and two portions with drinks were quite overpriced at 90 francs. The service staff was overwhelmed and, above all, extremely unfriendly, when paying he waited impatiently for the amount from the tip, that ruined the evening, also rude on the phone and they hung up without saying thank you and saying goodbye, we will never visit the restaurant again

Actually a nice atmosphere, but we were disappointed by the service. We would have liked a more attentive, empathetic service. We would have expected more for the price and the chicken wasn't cooked through at all. Even though we gave feedback, we didn't even get an apology. Not even a goodbye when leaving the restaurant. Despite everything, we found the surroundings and the open kitchen very appealing.

Total enthusiasm... With so many foreign tourists, it's difficult to always hit the tone you want. I was there alone. Pizza was sensationally DELICIOUS. I felt like I was in Napoli. Everything was handed to me. Salt, pepper and even chilli oil. Above all, it was so incredibly clean. There was no DNA from my predecessors anywhere. Great. The napkins are of super high quality. Impressive.... Windows are even cleaner than mine...😁 Man, what a great evening it was... I'm just happy...

Food was very goood, service could be friendlier. The lady is a bit grumpy but the sir is very nice. We had the Irish Entrecote both medium but they were rather rare. So we asked him if they can grill it again and they brought a new plate also with additional sides. Very nice! Desert was delicious (chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream).

Unfriendly reception and lack of attention during the meal (long wait for order, endless wait for clearance). If there are a lot of people, avoid the restaurant - they are completely overwhelmed and work sloppily and rudely. But the pizzas are delicious.

Price/performance ok but not more. Unfriendly greeting at the entrance. As a guest you are sent outside. Attention could be better, pizza was ok but bland. Pepper mill and menache were not brought to the table and after eating half the pizza I had to make myself known to ask for pepper. There was no question about how the pizza tasted, even after the pepper was brought. Ashtray wasn't cleared away before eating and ashes flew around. Small detail...

Our trio went after peak hrs, around 9 pm and it had a very relaxed atmosphere with a wonderfully attentive waiter. Food was excellent and prices reasonable; a fantastic stop on our Europe-wide trip!

The pizza was very tasty and the meat was also very good. Staff friendly and helpful.

We would give 3 for the service and 4 for the food, so 3.5 on average, which is not possible. The second 30 minutes were great, but we arrived at 12:00 in a so to speak empty restaurant, ordered salads and pizza... when we asked after waiting 25 minutes why the salads weren't coming, we were told that we were waiting for the warm pizza bread, which yes It's nice, but it's a no-go without asking -> we had to leave again at 1 p.m. The salad came quickly, without bread, but it was great… after that the service worked perfectly…. Salad with fresh sprouts and the pizzas were top.

Unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right. We weren't asked how we would like the meat fried. A lot was forgotten and when we paid, the waitress wasn't happy when we wanted to split the bill.

Very unfriendly service, long waiting times, delays in the food and very expensive menu... a lot of things were forgotten when ordering and we received the food in about 20 minute intervals. Recommended…rather not or not at all Payment update: Ungrateful when paying. As a group we each wanted to pay individually...the waiter wasn't very happy about that. Despite the many tips, there was hardly a “thank you”, not very grateful…

Very fine wood-fired pizzas. Fast service, every year.

Sometimes reviews are not to be trusted, which is why I am leaving my humble opinion here hoping it would be useful for others. The place was packed, which gave the impression of a family style good food good price kind of restaurant. It was so loud and jammed we couldn’t even speak. Attention was really meh, we barely got our drinks after the food. There was no attention dedicated to us, probably because there were so many people but still… We ordered the big plate from the salad bar and it was just cold vegetables… nothing special. Then we took two Pizzas which were described excellent in the reviews and were no more than disappointing. A sad sloppy dough, sweet tomato sauce and the same cold vegetables from the salad bar on top. Cheese was clearly some industrial kind with no flavor, it tasted like lots of things except pizza. Maybe others have had a different experience but the whole thing was just really mediocre.

Absolute arrogant waiters that refused us a table even though there were plenty free. Even asked for a time in an hour and one waiter said yes and the first waiter, on a power trip, refused this also. I get it when you are busy but this was just sheer stubbornness. Please don’t bother

Good quality food. Pizza very good. Unfortunately, the steaks didn't come with the sauces described. Service very stressed. Even when paying. All we were given was the card reader and the bill and the service was gone again.

Dear reader After Covid I’ve tried to begin to look into service cultures and how the pandemic has raised the awareness of customer service. And how this is delivered to the customer. Currently I’m in Engleberg, Switzerland and just tried out an exciting menu at Bierlialp. The location is central, and the menu very good. The restaurant itself is laid out ok, but what disappoints the chefs great food creations, is the service. It seems some restaurants feel they don’t need to ask the customer what they want, it’s our job to eventually flag down a passing waiter and reiterate what we need. Not sure I understand this concept. That said, at Bierliap after I mentioned my frustrations a grappa was presented as a small token to say sorry. Which I’m sorry is not good enough. Therefore I suggest, if you try this restaurant you really need to make sure you capture the waiters attention when you need something…. otherwise your additional requests are not going to arrive. Please enjoy the food and be very mindful the folks are not coming to you, you need to raise your hand and “tell” them what you need. Happy eating
