The Lydia is very beautiful, but all its constructions around it are very ugly!!!! In fact, barcares is just intensive concreting!!! The coastline makes up for the ugly!!!

We visited the Lydia, a must-see monument in Barcares, during heritage days. So it was free for us. The tourist office is also located on the “ground floor” and serves as the entrance to the liner. Then you directly have the store. This boat is a Monument with a rich and varied history, a permanent exhibition will enrich your mind and show you that such a building can have several lives before ending up in a museum. To be honest the two lower decks were poorly ventilated and it was hot... In September (the seasons change...). But the photos, pictographies, exhibits and summaries of the history of the Lydia (which changed its name several times) are well produced by - and above all - volunteers. We can drink in history, live it through photos and explanations, and even feel it in this boat. The orca we went there, there was an interesting exhibition on the Titanic, there also run by a volunteer, with objects on display that I had never seen, and a volunteer in uniform! Hats off sir! There was also a temporary exhibition of models of boats of all types, from the Belem to the latest aircraft carrier. It was good, hats off to the artists and volunteers again, but as a regular at the National Maritime Museum my feelings were mixed. But well done. Then you arrive, via the main staircase or two side passageways, to the upper decks. There are 3 of them. And this is really great, both for the view of the sea and to get you into the atmosphere of what these bridges must have been like when you took the time to read the signs 2 floors more down :-) You will have a view of the wheelhouse, the helm, the "men on watch" berths and you can even refresh yourself because there is a refreshment bar 😋 There is also a small lounge with a piano which overlooks the main fore-deck staircase. In short, if you go to Barcares, don't forget to visit the Lydia. It's worth it. During our visit, however, access was impossible for PRMs. Too bad but they will surely sort that out. Good visit !

Very beautiful boat to visit. The small downside is that we had to come back 3 times before visiting it because at 10:30 a.m. they close the visits while its farm is at 12 p.m. and the hostess tells us we reopen at 2 p.m. so we come at 4:35 p.m. and the same lady tells us sorry the visits are over even though they close at 6 p.m. I tell her that she could have at least told us when we came in the morning and she answers me I'm not thinking about it while we have took a 20 minute drive for nothing and it was repeated twice so we had to come back for the third time in the morning when it opened.

I was finally able to set foot on this boat with its old-fashioned charm but so pleasant. The only downside is the fact that it is empty or almost empty. I have been coming to Barcarès for over 30 years. I remember visiting the Lydia about 20 years ago while collecting seashells. I was really a kid. What a joy to go back there, accompanied by my son! He enjoyed it as much as I did. It’s a shame that Johnny Hallyday’s exhibition takes up so much space! Besides, at the bottom, nothing indicates it. I would have appreciated being transported more to the time of the grounding, too much work has been done since. Fortunately the book is very detailed (I was able to understand what I visited afterwards). -A room by room plan is missing. It leaves room for the imagination. On a guided tour it must be really nice. -Maybe we should add audio 😀 Oops, I had trouble finding the exit 😅

7 euros for an empty boat. The few signs and objects are far from enough in such a large place! If you do not have the means to recreate the decorations of one or different eras, rehabilitate it into a real current place: cultural or leisure or catering. Because that’s sad. A place full of potential, which for the moment is only a very bland ghost of the Trente Glorieuses but presented as a flagship attraction of the department. It's a bit shameful... It reflects the image of the neighborhood: a seaside resort far from its golden age, a little decrepit with its large car parks without trees, a very pretty beach unfortunately littered with thousands of cigarette butts and unsightly buildings. Damage.
