Banh Mi Pho Luzern in Luzern

What appears to be an inconspicuous and perhaps even rather unkempt restaurant by Swiss standards is, according to Google reviews, a culinary miracle. In fact, the visit was worth it. We came in, were served immediately and decided on the recommended "special". A few minutes later we had our “sandwich” in our hands. Card payment as well as the option to pay via Twint were possible, but unfortunately it was not possible to eat on site as it was exclusively a takeaway. The meat was tasty, especially the pork belly pieces were good (even if it sounds unappetizing). (8/10) The bread is also very airy and stable, not too present. (8/10) I was missing a good hot sauce, Sriratcha is unfortunately a bit lacking in innovation and not really hot. (6/10) All in all, a very tasty sandwich. I can't say whether it's really 5 stars, we didn't try enough. Conclusion: Definitely worth a visit, ideal for a date or a short stop. But nothing earth-shattering. (7/10)

It is sooo authentic and good. As a Vietnamese I confirm that the Banh Mi tastes even better than in Vietnam. My swiss husband enjoys it so much that he could eat it almost every day.

I would go back to Luzern just to have another banh mi from this place. One of the best things I've eaten in my life, I swear.

The menu outside lists prices that are less than the menu inside. Food was mostly good but not spicy at all even though we asked for it spicy. Some of the meat in my sandwich had an unpleasant texture (gristley). Service was fast and efficient. Ingredients were fresh and the meal was a good size.

I definitely didn’t expect to find great Vietnamese food in Lucerne, we but did! We loved the chicken pho and crispy pork banh mi. You could tell everything was homemade! The bread, mayo, and pate were so good.

Hands-down the best street food in Lucerne: soooooooooooo lecker!! And cheap for, you know, Switzerland. I’d say it’s a must for any hungry traveller looking for a snack.

I’ve been here twice to take away their delicacies and in my last visit I chose also the BBQ Pork Char Siu with rice. The ingredients are so fresh! The banh mi is full of meat, butter and pate, so satisfying! I recommend also the crispy pork belly! Give it a try

Great hole in the wall spot in Lucerne. I’ve come here every time I’ve visited the city. Some of the crispiest and tastiest pork belly I’ve ever had. They even make their own baguettes!

This is by far the best banh mi and bao I’ve ever had outside of Vietnam! The staff is also really friendly and you can see them prepare all the food right when you make the order. Everything was so fresh and to die for.

When it is so tempting to go to a restaurant next to the lake this is a really tasty cheaper small place. I personally like small authentic resutrants but it might not fit everyone. Anyway really good!

They confirmed it was open today, but it's closed. Second time I've come and the directions on Google are wrong. Call before you go! uptdate: Bon Bánh mì is very similar to what you find in Vietnam. Excellent crispy pork, but the quality of the pâté still needs to be improved.

The very best Banh Mi in Lucerne and maybe even outside of Vietnam that I know. Super lovely people, fast and friendly service and fantastic food! My highlight is the Banh Mi with pork belly. The bread is homemade and is super crispy and light. The filling is also perfect. The summer rolls are also highly recommended! All in all my absolute favorite snack bar in Lucerne and definitely always worth a visit!

This little restaurant packed a great experience into an inexpensive package. After a day of wandering the city, a nice bit of take out to eat in our room was rewarded. The Han Qui bowl was delightful with a delicate sauce. The summer roll was tasty also, both with their homemade sauce as well as the traditional sauce. They were warm and friendly people.

Not sure why this place has high reviews, despite the friendly service, the food was very poor. Anyone who has had authentic Vietnamese food will tell you that. The rice noodles were soggy and the char siu pork was very ordinary. Also, they could make sure that flies are not landing on the food

By far, this is like one of the best ban mi and rice noodles I have had. The bread was nice and crispy, and even though the tofu itself wasn’t seasoned it still added very good flavor. The rice noodles were also really good! My only concern is that there were a hell ton of flies inside and there was some on the food too. Otherwise it was really good!

Banh mi is delicious!!!! Even though Switzerland is expensive, it is relatively cost-effective and is very delicious! Be sure to buy it!

Great little shop for grab and go Bahn Mi sandwiches. Fresh ingredients with the bread made fresh each day and the perfect house made pate as the base for each sandwich. We enjoyed the chicken and the crispy pork sandwiches on our first visit and picked up another pair for our train ride lunch 2 days later

Who would have thought that I would discover one of the best banh mis I’ve ever had in Switzerland at Lake Lucerne. The bread was perfectly made. It was crispy on the outside and light and airy and fluffy on the inside (not dense) — how Vietnamese banh mi bread is suppose to be. I had a Vietnamese ham (cha) and bbq pork (xa xiu) banh mi with pate with butter, veggies, and fresh chili peppers. The filling was so tasty. What would have made this banh mi even better for me was if it had more pate, less butter, and more veggies. I’ve had banh mi from many places, including Vietnam, and the banh mi from this place is definitely one of the best I’ve had.

Hands down the best Bánh mì we ever had in Europe. It's even comparable with the best Bánh mì we’ve had in Saigon. We also love the rice dishes and the Baos and the soy milk, basically everything :)) we love the fact that everything is made fresh daily. Friendly people, good portions, and fair price for Luzern. This was one of the best bahn mis I've ever had (and I've had quite a lot across the US). The bread is perfectly crunchy but not tear-the-roof-off-your-mouth crunchy. The pork was delicious (and crispy!). The sauce was great. Overall it was just a really well balanced and well executed bahn mi. It was also a pretty big bahn mi for 11 CHF. I just wish I had a chance to get another one before I left the city.

Very small restaurant with takeaway food. The Bahn Mi is just as good as in Vietnam and in Switzerland the best I have had so far. The bread used reminds me of baguette bread from France, which is difficult to find here in Lucerne. Service and staff are always friendly.

The only reason I came to Lucerne 🥰

Don't let the somewhat austere atmosphere put you off: the Vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) are always freshly prepared, delicious, generous and inexpensive. Contrary to what the name suggests, the famous Vietnamese soup “Phơ” is not served here. Fresh bread (not those rubbery fresh-baked baguettes from the discount store), well-seasoned and crispy baked pork and a homemade sauce make the sandwich uniquely delicious. I've had at least 10 Banh Mi Specials and have never been disappointed. Also suitable for Swiss people who rarely venture beyond the Alpine region when it comes to taste. The roll is best consumed promptly, then it is still warm and crispy. (The bread soaks up the sauce and the juice of the cucumber, which is why the whole thing becomes a bit mushy after 1-2 hours. Warming it up in the oven is then highly recommended) In addition to the baguettes, you can also buy banh bao (steam-cooked dumplings) and the like to take away. As a drink, soy milk completes the experience.

Be careful with the food here! Yesterday I bought three Banh Mi at around 15:00. The weather was around 8°C outside and after coming back home I left the baguettes on the balcony to keep them cool until evening when we ate at 19:00. So no way the food was spoiled because of the way I stored them. Right after we took the first bite, we all felt something wrong with the baguettes. Then we opened the bread to check and smelled a strong alcohol smell from the pickled carrots. I assumed their vinegar was too old and fermented, so it had a very unpleasant smell. I went to the restaurant today to give them back their baguette to check, but they were sure their food yesterday wasn't spoiled. Meanwhile, my other 2 Vietnamese friends also confirm that their pickles were spoiled. This was not the first time I had Banh Mi, as I’m Vietnamese. Sure, it can happen, but yet they absolutely do not want to be responsible for this. What a pity! Also the soy milk I bought from them yesterday was not drinkable anymore, they gave me money back for the soy milk only. UPDATE: response to the reply of the owner They still shirk their responsibility for the spoiled food. I brought their original white plastic bag with 3 baguettes inside to the restaurant. I took 1 of the 3 out and showed it to them. They said that their pickled carrots yesterday couldn't go bad, because they made them fresh everyday. And because some customers wanted more sour taste, they increased the amount of vinegar. Please consider what they said. Those who often make pickled vegetables must know that it would not be so easily go bad on the same day, let alone at this weather condition. So, I didn't see the need to continue arguing with them. I was going to toss the 2 other breads in the trash, but I went to my friend's store first, it’s 100 m away. My friends knew about this issue, I opened the 2 remaining baguettes for them to smell. They are Vietnamese and they confirmed that the pickled carrots in the breads has been fermented. What do you think, when the carrots are in the same tray, 3 baguettes were bought at the same time and that only a baguette went bad?? Honestly, we are not that poor that I had to spend half an hour ride with my little child to come to the restaurant to play tricks with them just for a purchase which is worth about 30 francs. But I think this is a serious food safely issue! Imagine if we continued to eat these baguettes, what would be the consequences?!

Authentic Vietnamese Bánh Mì in Lucerne. Everything is homemade. The homemade sandwich is so crispy. It is totally different than the baguette bought in the market. I will definitely come back multiple times to buy it and refer more customers to the owner.

Coming from Adelaide (Australia) where Bahn Mi is taken super seriously, this is equal to or even better than most I have ever eaten! The bread roll (made in house) is ELITE! Without doubt the best i have ever had 👏🏼 the crunch was next level (11/10), and the inside was super soft and fluffy. The pork was delicious and soft, and the crackle was perfect, and the pate was an amazing addition as well. The only way I would say to elevate this would be to have an option where the char shu pork is an addition, maybe more coriander, and have fresh chilies as an option for spice fiends… The summer roll (cold roll) was made fresh also. Overall this is a 9.9997/10 for me and would suggest going out of your way (even if not in Lucerne) to eat this. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The banh mi was so good that I had to come back the next day before I left Luzern. Everything is homemade and the price was just too good (I’d say it’s perfectly priced, and much cheaper than other options in Luzern). Been travelling around Europe and I had to say this is the most authentic banh mi I’ve eaten: the banh mi is crispy outside but soft inside, on-point crispy and char siu pork, perfect pate and “egg butter”. I and my friends was joking around to promote it as Luzern specialty :) We had it for lunch sitting on the bench next to the Chapel bridge instead of dining in some restaurants - affordable and delicious. I’d recommend trying out their Vietnamese styled soy milk as well! Definitely will eat it next time when I’m back in Luzern!

Was searching for some spicy/Asian food to be had and found this hidden gem tucked in the old town of Lucerne 💎 🥖 the baguette was freshly roasted, making it really crispy when you are having it. The roasted pork that we had it with was very well roasted too, crispy and flavourful by itself. The remaining sauces and vegetables that went along with the banh mi was awesomely balanced too - superbly done! 🍜 the rice noodles we had was super clean, we had it with some fresh chilli (chilli Padi) to spice things up - and definitely was a great choice. Though do note it’s taken “cool”, not a hot meal like most noodles would be served. Definitely pop by if you are looking for a good Vietnamese meal, served by a friendly owner 👍🏻

Very authentic Vietnamese “banh mi”

Authentic like in HCM when I was on my trip to Vietnam. Very tasty, except the chilli sauce could be supplemented with fresh chillies. You could also leave out the Maggi (glutamate) as it's a shame for the meat's own taste. I can highly recommend it to anyone who likes Vietnamese cuisine. cảm ơn and see you soon!

Delicious banh mi and spring rolls! The bread had the perfect crunch, the spring rolls were crispy and generously filled with pork, and everything was flavorful, fresh and home made. The owners were very friendly as well.

Excellent place with friendly owner! The location is also great for tourists, close to the Chapel Bridge. Proportion is good, might be too big for some, taste was divine. The cripsy pork seems to be top favorite so don't come too late if you want one, we didn't get ours 😭 But the chicken was great too!
