Café-Bar Elisabethen in Basel

This place was packed during Saturday afternoon. It is located inside a church and has limited number of places to sit indoor. We had a rooibus and a cafe latte. The rooibus tea was good but the coffee was like what I can expect from a coffee machine in a gas station.

Super nice coffee place inside a church. Ordered a cold coffee to go, staff were very flexible and super duper communicative and nice. They also have chocolate to buy with different flavors, took the white lemon and let me tell you, it was worth it.

I think the place is great and I really enjoy a café there with bread rolls in the morning. The staff is friendly and there are newspapers that allow you to take a look at current events. Plus some music in the background.

In addition to the drinks, we ordered a glass of tap water. We were surprised to see that the charge was 1 franc. Even if it appears to be used for a good purpose, the consumer should be able to decide.

Beautiful location on the Rhine Boulevard in Basel, in the middle of the old town, lush greenery, culture, history and architecture come together beautifully here.

They have no wifi, nor can you pay by a credit card - cash only. First time experiencing something like this ever. The service was okay, the food was tasty.

First-class, courteous service in a beautiful location and excellent coffee.

The service staff gives the impression that they want to get rid of you as quickly as possible. You get the bill before the drinks. If you've ever worked in service yourself, you'll see a lot of no-gos: glasses are touched at the top, half the drink is spilled before it's put on the table and the soup is already overflowing when you get it. They're all small things, but they also make an impression. You can pay by card - in exceptional cases not. Although the location is great, I was disappointed because the waiter couldn't tell me what was on the menu (it was something vegetarian or vegan, he just didn't know). Despite the empty restaurant, he was neither willing nor able to take three steps inside and ask what we could eat. If you then order a soup for almost 12 francs (at least that's what it should be) and get a cup of broth with two beans in it, you'd better go somewhere else next time. Additionally, the toilets were dirty and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in several weeks.

If you want to lose weight, this is the right place for lunch. The waiter was able to say that there were two menus, one he didn't know and the other was a vegetarian soup. I chose the latter for a whopping 11.60 - it came with a slightly larger coffee cup with a watery soup, the contents of which were worth at most thirty centimes. The service was absolutely unprofessional, e.g. clean glasses are touched on the edge with your fingers after collecting at the next table and before you get the food you first receive the bill. The food is cleared away before everyone at the table has eaten, so you are really encouraged to leave as quickly as possible. The only solution: go home after the visit and open a can of ravioli so that you have eaten enough.

I discovered this place while wandering around Basel. I was first attracted to the church. It was the first time I saw LGBTQI banners hanging in the church. Then I found this bar on the side. It's a cute and warm place, and the breakfast is also very good. The staff are lovely too. Church + LGBTQI + coffee, coooooooool!

Very cute place. The surroundings are quiet, the people are nice and the prices are okay. My girlfriend took a cappuccino and it looked absolutely stunning! She also said it tasted amazing. I feel like I'm definitely coming back next time I go to Basel!!!

Neogothic church built in 1865, with a nice small cafe in the corner of it. The church was planned to be demolished in the 1980s, but then they renovated it in the early 90s and currently it is used by both the Catholic and the Reformed church, and also commercially for concerts, weddings.

I don't see it right that a church has a bar inside. When we went to breakfast they were having mass and it seems disrespectful to me that people go to have a drink and look out to see the church in full mass.

The ☕️ is already open when the city is still asleep. Lots of outdoor space available.

There's Coldesina gazosa Bellinzona here, I think it's such a supper lemonade! Very comfortable, sunny TERRACE available. Right on the side of Elisabethen Church.

Quite inconspicuously at the side entrance of the church. Very helpful and friendly service. Inexpensive coffee and snacks. More space outside than inside, don't forget to explore the 1st floor and the church...

Need a perfect Italian style espresso and something small to bite? Or a glass of nice Italian wine... This is your place! But if the weather is beautiful, take care, it is always crowded. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. Really a perfect place to stop for a moment.

The best coffee in Basel and super-friendly service! The best seats on Basel's sun terrace in sunny weather as well as on the cozy upper floor when it's windy and snowy! We recommend!

Our experience: Poor service, too expensive! Outside area: After about 10 minutes the waitress came, she had forgotten what we had ordered. OK. 2 drinks, 1 focaccio, (a kind of pizza) 5 minutes later the drinks came. Another 10 minutes later the foccacio came... I noticed it was ice cold. When I complained, the waitress took it away again. 10 minutes later she is back, now with warm foccacio. When I told her while paying that I expected better service at these prices, she said they were working on it... that was it!

When the weather is nice, coffee, cola, etc., and snacks are also served in the garden restaurant, enjoy. Casual atmosphere, nice young service.

It has a cozy atmosphere, nice background music, attentive, funny service and of course the best Italian, fair-trade café in the city. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside comfortably, soak up the warm rays of sunshine, drink a cold beer and enjoy the summer, as well as experience the winter with hot soup. It is also interesting to take a look into the church, where you can drink your drink at wooden tables. It has delicious tarts, focaccia, freshly made soup of the day (often vegan/gluten-free) and croissants from Graziella on Sundays. There is also delicious rice and honey from the region to buy. From non-alcoholic beer to coffee with soy milk, there is something for carnivores, vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free people, alcohol and caffeine abstainers, alcohol and caffeine connoisseurs, for all special people and also for all normal people and whatever else is going on in the world. something. In the Elisabethenkirche performance with young international artists who sang opera melodies. You tend to only visit the cafe casually. So a review about church events is much more interesting

Beautiful cafe on the ground floor of the church bell tower, with a unique atmosphere. If it is too crowded on the two floors, there are additional tables in the nave itself, or on the terrace when the weather is nice. At lunchtime there are foccacias, pasta and very tasty soups that change every day, otherwise all kinds of baked goods and a pretty strong café. Strange in the best sense of the word, a place to come back to again and again.

Stylish cafe in the church. Slightly separated from the open Elisabethen Church. You can also sit outside. Very nice service. I'm only giving it four stars because of the noise from the coffee machine and the commotion in the bar area. There's also music playing (beautiful jazz), but you can't actually hear it because of the bar noise. A great place and I always enjoy going there. There are also newspapers and magazines available.
