Café Bistro 'Am Römerholz' in Winterthur

Very bad unfriendly service. Bad-tempered staff. Old yellowed menu. Great contrast to the wonderful and lovingly run museum.

The weather was perfect this weekend to enjoy the view and the food. My partner loved the Quiche and Orange chocolate cake. Thank you for a lovely saturday

Small but nice! Cozy little coffee with warm food.

Wanted to grab a bite to eat after taking my colleague to the hospital. I went to the door in the park and asked the lady standing behind the counter if there was another entrance. I apologized when I came in, got an aggressive answer, yes now it's winter and the patio doors are closed. Put my jacket on the chair and went to the counter to order a quiche, aggressive again, she took the order at the table. I also said, please also have a glass of white wine and whether I should sit at the table that has cutlery. Answer, what do you mean I'm stocking up for a quiche and a glass of wine. I grabbed my jacket and left.

Unfortunately, the quality of the museum under the same roof does not rub off on the café/bistro. After visiting the museum yesterday, I was hungry for a little snack. I ordered the red Thai vegetable curry and the price included pumpkin cream soup. (Fits Black Forest cake and sushi.) The soup tasted creamy but not really like pumpkin and was not seasoned, basically saltless. Luckily the curry had one/two slices of okra and baby corn. Otherwise there were only vegetables that didn't even remotely have anything to do with Thailand. The red curry sauce was more of a yellow color, but there were some red spots in it, under-salted and a very faint hint of 'spiciness' if you want to put it that way. The waitress was very taciturn, but occasionally tried to smile. The soup and curry together cost CHF 17.50. Once again I realized: If it doesn't cost anything, it's not worth anything. The ambience was in wonderful harmony with the quality of the food: desolate. Even the most beautiful view doesn't help. Oh yes: as I leave the location I notice a display case with cakes. It stood there very discreetly. Are they better?

A nice café with a great ambience both inside and outside. I always enjoy going there and enjoying it. The breakfast looked delicious, but we didn't try it. But maybe next time.

A really cute bistro for a relaxed brunch on Sunday

The ice cream parlor and strawberry frappé were very good... the waiting time was rather less.

Unique location of the terrace overlooking the park, very quiet. The staff is friendly and generally helpful, but there were major organizational problems during our brunch. Despite being ordered at the same time, the fried egg arrived almost an hour earlier than the scrambled eggs, despite us asking three times. It would probably be easier for everyone involved if more food could be picked up from the Sunday brunch buffet. This means the staff wouldn't have to run back and forth so often. I realize that not all guests had booked the gourmet break. But if you're looking forward to a rich buffet like you'd find in hotels, you'll be disappointed. The selection is rather meager and not beautifully presented either. The quality of the products, however, is very good!

Exclusively located property on the edge of the forest. With a great view over Winterthur. The gardens invite you to take a walk. The bistro serves excellent cakes and quiches.

Simple and practical coffee in the Oskar Reinhart Museum, from here you can visit the house's beautiful garden.

Would be cool if there were more vegan options. Otherwise a great place for a cocktail and nice service 😊

Very nice location, but brunch is very “manageable”. The buffet is set up quite “unfriendly” (jam is not portioned but is in a bowl where everyone grabs it with a spoon, fruit is cut into small pieces and placed in a jumbled manner on a small plate) - small things that make a big impression. General quality of the food is not particularly good, but the price is appropriate :) I would like to come again for coffee and cake, but certainly not for brunch.

Cafe Bistro am Römerholz is one of our favorite cafe places in Winterthur. We always feel very welcome, even with four-legged friends 😀🐕 Very friendly interaction, very fine food and a very pleasant place for our lunch break. Bea Koti

Very nice cafe with a view of the beautiful park but relatively expensive a wheat beer e.g. 9 Fr!! I think it's absolutely beyond pain. Otherwise, you can combine a nice cafe with a walk through the forest.

A café with a beautiful view over Winterthur. Friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful walks, local recreation area with sports facilities and parking spaces. And just fine coffee and cake. As well as a good little kitchen. Museum attached. Worth visiting and seeing!

Great place after a forest walk!

The ambience is good but unfortunately the service/staff is unfriendly. A pity. My first and last visit

Was there today for brunch after more than 2 years. The locations are, as always, gorgeous and wonderful. I was disappointed with the service; The staff didn't understand you properly because they didn't speak German, the food was carelessly placed on the plates, no friendly smile to greet you, just a check-in. It's a shame, I'm used to something different from this place.

Wonderful place to stay! Magnificent park!

Fantastic view, right in the countryside. Especially after a visit to the museum, it's great to be able to have something to drink or eat afterwards. The selection of cakes is larger and more varied than you might expect at first glance!

The head chef, Mr Engeler, arranged a brunch for us, which is normally only planned for Sunday. He is very polite and courteous and is there for his customers in every situation. The road construction site at the roundabout (hospital) is causing confusion. If you don't read the red sign, you don't know that you can still drive up Haldenstrasse. Even in this difficult situation, Mr. Engeler helped on the phone to find the way to the bistro. Conclusion: we had the best brunch with friendly service. The fruits, the meat platter and cheese platter were very fresh and aromatic and a real treat. Likewise the scrambled eggs with chives and fried bacon. We recommend the bistro with 5 stars. Thank you very much. We will be back.

Excellent services, good food, sunny weather. All is okay

Not worth a visit! Despite the fantastic location with a beautiful terrace, a visit is not worth it. The service staff is completely overwhelmed and criticizes the guests in front of other guests, massively. But picnics have to be great.

What a hidden gem! You feel like a princess in the beautiful surrounds. We had the picnic in the garden. They give plenty of blankets and cushions and there is some shade under the trees. The food and wine was very nice but also very pricey.

Very nice and nicely decorated bistro on the edge of the forest above the city. Fine cakes and good coffee, also quiet, no running or shouting, you can drink your coffee in peace here.

Waited over 25 minutes. Unfortunately the operation has no overview. Other guests left the restaurant annoyed. Unfortunately not an isolated case. Too bad.
