National in Winterthur

Very nice and stylish location. Perfect location at Bahnhofplatz Winterthur. Rich and high-quality brunch buffet. Very friendly service. We were all very satisfied and can happily recommend it.

Service was great. Unfortunately, this cannot be said about the Cordon Bleu. Bland and tough. It's a shame for the very high price.

We celebrated my mother's birthday there yesterday. Even though we had announced in advance that it was a birthday, the table was not decorated (they told us the flower shop was closed so they couldn't decorate the table), nor was any candle lit during dessert, nor was the plate served Happy Birthday or something similar decorated or offered, just nothing was special, which was very disappointing for a birthday. The food was good, but for the price it was generally very small portions (5 small fish crispies for 39.-). We've been eating at the National for years and have been happy so far, but this time we're disappointed and won't be back when there's something to celebrate.

Brunch is extremely poorly organized. A crowd and an eternal wait until you get a fried egg, for example. Dirty plates are not automatically cleared away. Opening at 1000 a.m. at 1115 a.m. the waiter says goodbye for the break. The buffets are poorly arranged.

More appearance than reality. Had a nut salad and the strogonoff. The food was really not good and the portion size was a disgrace. I will not dine there again. I don't often do bad reviews but I just have to warn you about this one. If you want to go out for a fancy meal, don't go there.

We wanted to have a drink and a small aperitif here to get a picture for dinner later. We were treated very carelessly and unfriendly by the older waiter, even though we each had two mocktails and a not particularly cheap aperitif. It's a shame, we thought the service would be appropriate in an expensive restaurant with white ceilings. Luckily, there are other fine restaurants nearby.

Good and not exactly cheap for lunch. I had züri Geschnetzeltes with Röstli. Good portion of veal meat. Yes, you can give yourself again, but it was delicious 😀

I'd rate the restaurant 3 out of 5 stars. While the ambiance and service were good, my initial experience was marred by undercooked meat(Zürcher Geschnetzeltes). They promptly addressed the issue, but it impacted my overall satisfaction.

With family, eating for the team, alone... even yesterday with the family. Twice tartare which is still very tasty. Once there was spaghetti chittara, which I couldn't finish. When I asked if everything was okay, I said that the spaghetti wasn't good. No answer, no questions, no reaction. Then I reacted to it. The only answer was “I told the boss”. She said it again, we were sitting at the table next to her and could hear. No reaction except disrespectful looks! Since reopening after the pandemic, the National has seen a massive decline. A real shame. My father (every time he's been at the National since forever) doesn't go anymore. My team thought the last meal was mediocre and this is the fourth time for me that it just wasn't good. A pity!"

On Sunday we only visited for a coffee. I noticed how unbearable a supervisor was with her employees behind the bar and in the kitchen. I can definitely understand when things get stressful in a restaurant, but I don't understand how you can talk and interact with other people like that. Especially not at work. It seemed very unprofessional and off-putting. Such behavior is hurtful for employees.

we had lunch at the National Restaurant in Winterthur. The food was very good and presented very nicely on the plate. For the main course we had moules with a white wine sauce, which was excellent. The whole meal was accompanied by a very good white wine (Sauvignon blanc) and at the end we had a glass of red wine. we had very nice and attentive service. would love to come back

Wonderful place to indulge in culinary delights. Went there for lunch today. Very attentive and friendly service on the upper floor. They responded to my special requests without compromise. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great. Any time!

I am completely satisfied with National Winterthur. The service, food, atmosphere and live music were fantastic.

The service specialist kept an overview even though the restaurant was still busy at 10 p.m. I received an excellent tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and truffles, which rounded off our evening at the theater in the Casino Theater.

We had a business lunch today and I personally was disappointed as the food served was just cold. The Zürcher Geschnetzeltes as the Rösti and the plate were cold. In a restaurant with such elevate pricing this should not happen!

There were six of us eating. The service was catastrophic, we waited 15 minutes until we were served at 8:30 p.m. when there wasn't much going on. The starter, a salad, had virtually no sauce and the bread was rubbery. The main course was a long time coming...and was served lukewarm/cold. The vegetables weren't cooked properly and everything was generally unseasoned. It's a shame the National has lost its usual quality. Price/performance is no longer right. It's a shame... we skipped the dessert that was offered and we lost our appetite. In my opinion there is a lack of leadership and trained staff.

Location top opening hours flop You can't even get a beer here at 10 p.m. It is drafty and cold in the winter garden. The service is not at all typically unfriendly from Bindella. The fact that the bar is only open every now and then is obviously due to the good location; on the homepage it says "open all the time" A pity!

Was surprised with a brunch at the National on Sunday for my birthday. When I walked in, my first impression was that it was really beautiful and classy with these great white-covered tables. But then we were seated at a “naked” table. Despite reservations. It was just a huge blow and didn't really seem welcome to me. Especially since the reservation had already been made beforehand, but since the surprise guests unfortunately had to stay at home with stomach flu, my husband had to rebook the reservation 2 days before. However, I realize how much that made me sad. Beautiful tablecloths all around. And the birthday child is seated at the “naked” table. Therefore deducting the stars. The food was very tasty, but a lot of it was always empty and there were very long waiting times at the egg station. All in all, complaining on a high level. We will possibly test it again and hope that I can then write just as great pictures or reviews as in the previous posts.

The food at National is first class and of the best quality. Everything from the starters to the main course and dessert. The atmosphere in the restaurant is dignified. There is a 1 star deduction for service because after the main course we had to wait quite a long time until the dessert menu was brought to us, even though there really wasn't much going on (Monday evening). Otherwise everything is perfect.

Very good cuisine and very professional staff

If you love ice coffee, this is probably the best place to get one, comfortably located just next to the train station

We were in Winterthur on Sunday quite spontaneously. When we got hungry we went to the National. A very big compliment to the young woman with the great hairstyle who accompanied us through the evening. It was a lot of fun with her. We felt very comfortable and were very pampered by her. We were able to enjoy a wonderful and enjoyable Sunday brunch here. The ambience in the winter garden is light and airy and creates a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We'd love to come back😁.

The positive first: The meal and the service were, as always, impeccable. Still, I'm disappointed. I had visitors from abroad and wanted to offer people a nice dinner. That's why I reserved a table on the upper floor. Instead, without comment, we were seated downstairs in the entrance area, where there wasn't even a tablecloth. The same thing happened to me a few weeks earlier. I don't feel like I'm being taken seriously as a guest.

The winter garden with the hanging lights offers a great ambience in the evening. I also like the rest of the restaurant with its wooden chairs and sometimes there is live piano music. I enjoy looking at the pictures on display. For dining, there is fine Swiss cuisine with seasonal dishes and also good vegetarian and vegan options. The prices are also high, but correspond to the creative cuisine. I like to be pampered with culinary delights here.

If we had read the reviews on tripadviser better, we would have saved ourselves the visit. Better not order the highly praised ricotta gnocchi! Staff is trying hard.

The National is a top restaurant in Winterthur. Great location and ideal for sophisticated business lunches or other meetings. The service is always friendly and proactive. The food is of high quality and, in addition to the classics, there is a lot of seasonal food. The good mix and the typically good wine selection show the Bindella character. The atmosphere is spiced up with a lot of art (pictures, sculptures, etc.). I'm already looking forward to the next time!

If I spend over 100.00 on an afternoon snack, I expect more than 2 out of 3 of the dishes ordered to be sent out of the kitchen incorrectly.

We were there last Friday. The food was very good and the waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating. Before that we were downstairs in the separate bar. It was pretty unfriendly there. We were completely ignored and had to wait a long time. It was full but not overly so. Also... I'll be right there or something like that would have been friendlier than just being completely ignored.

The bar is great. The restaurant is nice and very close to the train station.

As in the bar part of the restaurant it is not possible to reserve a table (this is the policy of the restaurant) we decided to come one day to spend time in the bar part of the restaurant as I saw free tables there but unfortunately we were not allowed as in the bar part of the restaurant was a group of people. I mention that the restaurant's policy does not accept table reservations in the bar area and there were at least 3 free tables. I'm sorry but I will never enter this restaurant again.

It was one of the great restaurants in Winterthur. Sadly, now you can wait at the table outside for bloody 30min and no one cares if you want a beer or not. The ashtray is not cleaned after the last customer and I just went to the next Restaurant that want my money. No service at all!

The glass hall is fully occupied and simply too loud. Service is very friendly. I can only judge the vegetarian meal one evening as non-vegetarian. Let's put it this way, the falafel was very good.

This is the alternative to Cungieri. A very nice view from here too. Unfortunately, to the detriment of the Cungieri host, who also deserved the guests.

We celebrated a birthday yesterday and had made a reservation in the winter garden. As the guests arrived there were more and more... Although the restaurant was busy, every effort was made to accommodate the additional guests. It was a casual evening with good service, good food and a nice atmosphere.

Very good and rich brunch. Lunch menu a bit narrow, but very tasty. We had actually booked for brunch with a group, but received a cancellation from the restaurant at short notice, which we found to be too short notice given the short time to reschedule (they called me at 8.35 the evening before). When we did come for lunch, the entire meal was taken over by the restaurant. We are extremely grateful for this and were treated very kindly! Always happy to come back.

Very nice place and good food. We were there on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately the menu was out and the wine we wanted to order was also no longer available. The staff including the boss reacted very well and offered us something free as compensation. The menu was quite small, but the food we ordered was great. The waitress was very nice, but often didn't look, so it took a lot of time from ordering to paying. It takes a lot of patience, but you were there to enjoy yourself and not in a hurry...

We wanted to have a quick drink at 11pm this evening. Unfortunately we were turned away on the grounds that the last round was over. Official opening time: midnight. Very special.

I never posted bad review but I never been treated like that in a restaurant : They don't say hi and ask me if I am the taxi driver They give me a table between 2 wall Half of the menu was not available at 7pm... Soupe is only water Salmon was good but the mustard sauce was not tasty The server forget to bring me my food I had to ask him 2 times I took a glass of wine, he serve me the end of a bottle it was not enough Even for pay I had to go at the entrance I'm use that at each restaurant at the end they ask you if every thing was. Here I just paid and go

How happy we were before our visit to the casino theater; By the way, it was a great (charity) dinner at the National. The food was fine, the service was a waiting room. We didn't feel like we were really being noticed, even though we had reserved the table. Finally we were given the dessert menu and then nothing else happened. When we then asked for the bill, ordering dessert was no longer an issue... Conclusion: Food is good, service still has room for improvement.

So everything is ok! Apart from the fact that the men's toilets were closed "but they weren't broken" is this a strategy that the guests can no longer eat? I think it's a shame for 60CHF, the food is great but that a colleague had to wait over 20 minutes for a toilet?! Low Level, Cheap Trick! Good place/location. Food was ok (goulash was good and tender - not overcooked). Service was really attentive. Athmosphere was very lively and noisy...lots of Christmas gathering I believe. Get the main building if you want a space to talk. The extension area can be very loud due to the open space area I believe.

We sat in the entrance area, which was perfect for our little son to briefly explore the Nischen. At the beginning we waited quite a long time before we could order, but then everything came very quickly. The beef fillet, the schnitzel and the fish were very tasty. Unfortunately the red wine sauce didn't taste like red wine at all but more like gravy. The waitress was very friendly.

I find 19.90 for 2dl Chardonnay Fontanelle from Banfi cheeky. The bottle costs exactly the same in retail price, but certainly less in retail price. It's not possible to add 500%. In addition, the service was slow and only responded to the price comment with a shrug of the shoulders. The boss apparently informed her about it, but she didn't think it was necessary to address us. System catering :(

Stylish restaurant including a pianist

My companion ordered 3 courses (mozzarella/tomatoes, white wine soup, Zurich Geschnetzeltes) and I ordered 2 courses (carpaccio and spaghetti national). The service was very rushed and the food was literally "slammed" onto our table. My companion's two starters came at the same time, even though he had explicitly requested them one after the other. The Zurich Geschnetzelte was simply veal with a very light, bland cream sauce, the Rösti was a lump of overcooked, slightly browned potatoes. Even worse - with the Italian owner - were the carelessly prepared and unfortunately completely overcooked spaghetti from the package. They were replaced after my complaint, but the replacement portion was also poor, although at least al dente. The only really tasty thing was the carpaccio, but you don't have to know how to cook to make this. Conclusion: Nice restaurant but unfortunately not really good food. As a chef, I wouldn't be proud of what's on offer. If I end up paying CHF 280 for two people, I expect a different level. A pity. ---------------------------- Addendum: The social media department contacted me after my review and enclosed a meal voucher for CHF 90. As desired, we gave the National a second chance. We were once again guests in the Glass House, where this time a band played at a volume that did not allow conversation at the table. In addition, only a reduced menu was offered for this evening. Unfortunately, no one had pointed this out to us when we made our reservation over the phone... After we requested a different table in the evening, we got one on the first floor, but right next to the kitchen and an open window to the glass house. Unfortunately it wasn't really quiet there either. For the starter, I wanted a tartare, which can be found on the menu under "Primi Passi" (for me this means starter). The waitress then told me that unfortunately they couldn't prepare a tartare in a small portion because they would get the "sausages" (the waitress's original sound) already prepared and therefore they had no influence on the size of the portion. Sorry, but I've never experienced anything like this in any other restaurant, and I've been to many. The evening ended with an absolutely unimaginative caramel bowl (garnished with three heaps of whipped cream from a can...). Unfortunately, I now have to say that the National can't do any better; despite the announcement from the social media department. Even if it is unlikely to be of any use in my case, I would still be interested in receiving feedback/statements from Bindella about what she experienced.

The food was excellent. Went out very satisfied. Can highly recommend the salmon as a starter. And if you can make it this year, you should definitely try the saddle of venison.

Pleasant welcome and attentive service. Varied menu - classic, Mediterranean. The “original” Zurich mince was very good and served on a plate. Quite expensive but worth it.

The Sunday brunch is particularly noteworthy! Despite the initially (rather sporty) looking price, you will be very positively surprised here! Great selection, high quality of food as well as all drinks (from latte macchiato to prosecco!!!) Ambiance and super nice staff included. Keep it up, Restaurant National ;)

Very loud and cramped, good food, friendly service

The National is a rather more upscale restaurant, relatively large. With a bar at the back, rather higher prices. E.g. wheat beer, something around 9 Fr. I can't say enough about the food, but it's probably also more expensive, but otherwise a nice restaurant right at the Winterthur train station.
