Chez Mario in Lausanne

The most classic pizzeria in Lausanne. Never disappointed when eating there but I must admit that I have never been surprised either. Excellent value for money

overrated, it's not that great, not as good as people say. The atmosphere is very nice, like a trendy berlin vibe, but the pizzas... meh: my calzoni pizza didn't feel oven-cooked but mostly boiled inside (too watery). My partner's pizza capriocciosa was just... ok. The dough is very good. The cheese on the dough is a kind of mozarella (?), becomes rubbery and elastic once cooked.

Simply the best pizza in Europe, a place with an excellent atmosphere, a very high level of service and unbeatable value for money, 100% recommendable.

An institution in Lausanne, this pizzeria! Original decoration with graffiti left by customers. The menu only offers pizzas (more than thirty) with also lasagna. Decent pizzas. No complaints.

Well, I don't even know where to start because I was so disappointed. Rather positive points: - Service - waiting time - Very good coffee Rather negative points: - PannaCotta: No taste, fortunately the coulis is good. Very negative points: - The pizza is not good: Dough has no taste (no salt, and not even cornmeal and given the dough it is not 60% hydrated or they made the dough in a hurry, and did not let it rise enough) tomato sauce no taste, I would even risk saying that it is not San Marzano, canned olives, the mushrooms given their appearance were not of the day. The mozzarella is not fiori di latte or very poor quality because it was more chewing gum than cheese. - The price: $115 for 3 pizzas, 4 cokes, 2 espressos and 2 panna cotta. It may be the first Swiss pizzaria but far from being the best. It's a shame knowing that Azzario's son Daniel Colombini makes one of the BEST pizzas in the canton not even 10km from this restaurant. Best pizza in Lausanne with good service in a relaxing atmosphere

Pizzeria that should be Italian: an insult. We took two daisies delivered to our home, we also reheated them in the oven so transportation isn't the problem. The mozzarella is tasteless and cannot be defined as such (it looks like the Migros mozzarella stick). The dough at the level of a frozen pizza from the supermarket. Poor tomato. In short, nothing about this pizza was good, except the price (6 francs thanks to an Uber offer), but on the menu the pizza comes at 19 which is absolutely not in keeping with the quality.

I like it, especially because you can feel comfortable surrounded by an environment where, at least in the evening, there are no families. A nice place to go out with colleagues or friends (and I'm a mother) I'm not crazy about Neapolitan pizza (they don't want me to have any) but this was good and didn't stick to my stomach. The waiters and the guy at the cash register were really kind and pleasant. It has become my go-to place to go out at night here in Lausanne. I like

Great food, you can't complain. Nice employees very friendly. As has been said in the other comments, the restaurant is a bit hidden but it's worth it. The price is reasonable not too expensive.

Arriving at 8:30 p.m., my friend and I saw customers passing by, settling in well after we had settled in and therefore taking orders. These same tables, numbering around 5, were served well before us. It was then that at 9:25 p.m., we decided to leave and it was only then that they explained to us that there was a problem with the oven which still served a handful of customers who had also ordered pizzas. I would still like to point out that the waitresses were remarkably patient and very friendly. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have visited this restaurant and the long wait often seems to target the same type of people and it almost becomes sad.

Excellent pizza, the ingredients are quality. The staff is very kind and helpful and the place is particular for how it is "decorated". Highly recommended!

We popped in for a quick lunch based on past reviews and we took the busy restaurant as a good sign. The pizza and a drink special for CHF23 appeared to be good value until the food arrived. Both our pizza's arrived swimming in liquid and were essentially inedible. I'm not sure how it's possible to get so much liquid on a pizza. Perhaps using frozen toppings? We left the food on the table, paid the bill and left. Very disappointed.

The service was quick and correct (except for the water pitchers). The prices are correct for the establishment. However, 4 people out of our group of 7 had stomach aches in the evening following our meal, perhaps due to the fact that the meals were more than generous. The atmosphere is a little noisy but very pleasant. Come on an empty stomach.

As always, the best pizza in town!! And the environment is amazing…. You can’t go wrong coming to Chez Mario!!!

The place is very nice and unusual. You are immersed in Italy when you walk through the doors. On the contrary, for a quiet meal I do not recommend it. There are a lot of people which leads to a lot of noise. We can't hear each other speak.

Good welcome at first glance, good pizza and quickly served, tasty cocktail. But unfortunately we asked for a carafe of water which was never served, then ordered a tiramisu which never arrived. And the icing on the cake was to get the bill and cash it, we had to insist and then move even after more than 30 minutes of waiting (despite having asked repeatedly). The waitress seemed unconcerned and tended to forget our orders. Probably due to the fact that the restaurant was crowded and very noisy. Given the price of pizzas, the service must be there!

But it’s a dough or a piece of rubber, a pizza that was supposed to be with tuna and onion that came with a kilo of onion and almost without tuna… frankly it’s a shame to call it a pizza. First and last time!!

This was my second time eating at Mario's. The first time I was treated to really disappointing defrosted lasagna, but I told myself that I should take the pizzas to form an opinion. However, they were pizzas with rubbery dough. The ham is not cut, it is placed on top in a chiffonade, which means that there is too much of it and that it hides the taste of the other ingredients, especially since the said ham had a pretty bad taste. The rest of the pizza is bland. I won't comment if this pizzeria wasn't selling itself as the best in Lausanne, but it's really disappointing for such a well-known address.

Best quatre fromage pizza I’ve ever had. The portion is huge. Half of a pizza can feed me. So I took away another half. It was still good after reheating on the next morning.

Super good pizza, authentic setting, my son, who celebrated his 7th birthday today, loved being able to put his mark on the wall without being reprimanded. He loved that pizza... too bad the waiter was more Spanish than Italian, a few small mistakes but nothing serious. The music a little too loud, for young ears. But really, the pizzas are super good!, we'll come back!

We discovered Chez Mario a few weeks ago and we loved the pizza. BUT going back this evening for two takeaway pizzas we went home to huge disappointment. The tomato sauce is so salty that we wondered if the pot of salt had fallen into the sauce. Inedible pizzas. So I called to report the problem and I honestly thought that a commercial gesture would be made but instead I got: ok I will report it to my colleague thank you. And the person hangs up. We probably won't go back there again. Damage.

This is a phenomenal place for Italian style pizza and the writing on the walls from previous customers is quite charming. Eating here was one of the best experiences I had when I was studying abroad in Switzerland. Also if you like soda and have never been to Switzerland, you should get a Fizzy. It's incredible.

We came some time ago as a group. During our meal, we were surprised to have mice walking around at our feet. So perfect if you want to eat with ratatouille. A thought for the waitress who had to manage a full restaurant alone.

The best pizza in Lausanne. Excellent quality. The dough and the ingredients are fresh and very well chosen. The atmosphere is young and the place looks very authentic. The staff is extremely kind and speaks Italian. No need to call to book if you are not a group. 50 francs for two pizzas and a glass of wine (very good prices for Swiss standards). Highly recommended!

An Italian atmosphere always appreciated. I unfortunately had a bad experience with food a few years ago: I had carbonara pasta and it was filled with parsley. Normally I like parsley so I didn't say anything and tried to eat my dish... it completely disgusted me. I couldn't finish it and now I don't like parsley at all. The chef had a heavy hand but the service was excellent.

I came this evening with a friend before opening (6:25 p.m.) because the door was open and I was sent away without any explanation. I would have liked someone to explain to us that the restaurant opens at 6:30 p.m. instead the boss showed me the door without explanation. I hope it's not due to the color of my friend's skin and that he would have acted the same with a notable person. So we went to Da Carlo’s

Scandalous, we were asked to queue to enter the restaurant before coming to tell us that we would be the last to enter, then 30 minutes later, one of the waiters, very unpleasant, ordered us to leave immediately, that the restaurant is closed. Dear waiter, we don't touch customers when it comes to telling them to leave, besides, we don't touch people in general. I have never experienced this, it is absolutely unacceptable, an establishment to avoid.

It was a really sad experience for us. The server mistreated us from beginning to end. Ignored our calls, let us waiting between pizza and dessert for more than 40 minutes, always speaking to us in a angry tone. In the end we didn’t even ask for dessert because we really felt mistreated so we left. Food was overpriced for the quality. Music too loud. Extremely overrated place would not recommend nor come back.

The best. Authentic place with modesty, originality and quality pizzas... exquisite! They are delicious and generously garnished. In terms of aesthetics, they're not going for chic, the scribbled walls like they've been for decades, it's intentional and assumed, it's almost neo-expressionist. You will have real pizzas, without the hassle.

I called this establishment to reserve a table and was met with a very unpleasant woman who simply told me that no table was available and immediately hung up on me. Unacceptable! It doesn't make you want to go back.

A little surprising welcome but good pizza

The establishment is renowned (and plays on this reputation) for its pizzas, and, without lying, ours were very good, without being extraordinary either. However, I had much more trouble with everything else, especially the service and the atmosphere. The place is very busy and extremely noisy, which may actually be the charm for some. The service was catastrophic. The waiter had a three-foot-long face and seemed like he didn't want to be there. They told us more about the menu than anything else, and when we dared to ask for a drink, they brought us a carafe, but no glasses. We wanted to test the specificity of the place by asking for pens in order to leave a mark on the wall; our waiter threw a pot at us on the table, which turned out to contain only dry pens or broken pencils. When we asked if other pens (which worked) were available, our waiter soberly replied "well no" then took back his defective pencil holder which he went to put away (I don't see the point in keeping them since nothing was working anymore, but oh well). So overall I enjoyed my pizza, but not the rest, and would not return.

Chez Mario gave me the most Neapolitan culinary experience I've ever had in my life, their pizzas are absolutely delicious and are designed with respect for ancient Italian arts.

Incompetent staff who forget half the orders and who insult the good customers who pay a shameless high price for tiny portions and without flavor...A salad served without seasoning is a can just poured into a bowl without salt or pepper or sauce or oil without any seasoning never seen before!!!! Not to mention the unpleasant, incompetent staff from the Balkan countries for a so-called Italian restaurant. A pizza that was completely burned due to unsanitary, uncleaned ovens and lasagna that a concrete chainsaw would not be able to finish...the extremely hard dough, the disgusting tomato sauce, the missing toppings...THE WORST PIZZERIA IN LAUSANNE WHICH IS ONLY KNOWN FOR ITS OLD REPUTATION...EVEN A MAC DO IS BEST TO AVOID TOTALLY

The people who work there are a bit strange, it's complicated for everything. The feeling of annoying. The pizzas are gross, don't have salad, there isn't even any sauce. Really not great, slow service. I won't go back there again 🙁
