Chop-Stick Restaurant in Zürich

Have eaten there a couple of times, food is ok and most of the staff are fine. Manager was wildly rude unfriendly and absolutly unhelpful. Will not be returning and hope they find better management

The description of this place is a bit misleading. They claim this place is "no-frills", but in my opinion they go above and beyond with their drinks menu, and have a separate section for almost every type of meat: lobster, prawn, chicken, etc. As a Chinese person, I expected this place to be slightly below average, but I was surprised that the food was actually quite good, and it's comparable to the food back where I live. The servers were very nice (probably because we're Chinese), and the overall vibe made me feel like I had stepped out of Zürich for an hour and into China.

One of the best Chinese restaurant in town in terms of authenticity and taste. Price wise it's OK and you need to ask for the Chinese menu (just use Google translate on this), the best dishes are there. ;)

Favorite Chinese in town. They have an in house Menu you can ask for and they can make pretty much every Chinese dish you can remember

We really like it. I went with my husband and we liked the food.

Used to live next to it so was a regular customer. Yet food quality has been dropping since their previous chef left at the beginning of last year. Food is oily and they use the same paste for almost all dishes. Ate there yesterday and everyone got food poisoned today. Service is quite bad at peak time. The only good thing about it is its convenience.

Good selection of fairly authentic food, with authentically not so friendly service. I kind of like that. I've been here several times over the years and have always eaten well, except for the hot pot. There used to be a second, 'Chinese' menu, but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

Checked out a Chinese restaurant in Zurich for its cuisine authenticity. The “wat tan hor” (flat rice noodles in egg gravy) was quite comparable to the ones in Hong Kong or Singapore. However, the service was unwelcoming and impatient, causing the remaining orders to be canceled. Crammed and noisy, the atmosphere became unpleasant to finish the meal. Located in Zurich’s charming old town district of Niderdorf, lively with bars, clubs, and restaurants in the evenings.

* Fried scallop is delicious * I didn’t get a good piece of meat in the spicy chicken... According to the volume, it is basically 70-80% fried bread, 10-20% chicken skin, and the rest is chicken... It made even my boyfriend, who is not picky at all, angry. 😂 * Fish-flavored eggplant. The fried eggplant is very good and has no taste at all (except for the slight smell of oil). The fish-flavored eggplant and the eggplant seem to be quarreling. * Oolong tea is also very fresh...well...fresh like unfermented green tea (the lady said she got it right) However, one thing is true, I will come back if I want a hot meal on a Sunday afternoon. After all, the menu is long for me to explore slowly.

My visit wasn't planned. Pouring rain after getting out of train so stopped here to snack when waiting for bad weather to pass. Ordered soup dumplings, wrappings so thick they weren't good at all. When eating them with “醋”=vinegar, what's inside the bottle wasn't vinegar but soy sauce. Asked to correct the mistake but received no apologies. Overall, poor experience.

The worst chinese restaurant. 10 Francs for a tap water, 2.5 francs for just a tiny bowl of rice, how dare you? The most expensive price with the least amount of food

Good Chinese restaurant in very central location

Unfortunately everything was very hectic and we also got a bad seat. The employees constantly have to run from one location to the other, i.e. the door opens every minute, which creates more noise and traffic. I watched the chef reuse a raw shrimp that had fallen to the bottom. So I won't visit the restaurant again.

Legitimate Chinese restaurant with good Chinese food similar to when one eats in Asia. Service was also great! I’m not sure why the rating is low but we had a blast there and will go again

The employee was unfriendly, we ordered soup and babolstea for the children and said you can't order so small. You have to take with you and you're not allowed to eat here

Don't waste your money on the chicken curry or the boba tea, both of these were really bad. The sweet and sour chicken was good though. We were also able to get in without a reservation so that was nice. I wouldn't go back here though.

When I came to Europe, I was so tortured by white people's food that I drove all the way to Zurich to eat Chinese food. After Mao Xuewang finished eating, we packed it up and cooked it for three days with the remaining soup and ingredients... He came back to life🥲🙏💪🏻

The beef was quite salty and I barfed my bone. I'm never coming back. :(

When we walked in, we waited for 10 minutes to let them clean the table, and it wasn’t even busy there. After we got to the table, we waited for 20 minutes and asked the waiter 5 times to order, and still not even come, the waiter there is still making a bubble tea. They cost 1CHF for a tap water which is crazy as well.

After traveling in Europe for almost a month, this restaurant is the only one that requires me to pay at the counter.

Good Authentic Chinese Food. Prices are quite reasonable for Zurich.

Pork curry was tasteless., i ask for the Braised Pork with oyster sauce(thats one of the famous Chinese dish) and the lady said they dont have that. And later on i saw that they serving in the other table. Really annoying and i lost my appetite.👍👍

I've been here a few times and it's quite delicious. You can come here if you don't even think of where to eat. The fried beef on the special menu (wild pepper beef?) is a bit salty.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Zürich!

Lots of Chinese food choice but contextualised to fit Swiss . So some food items’ taste and look are a bit different from the real Chinese food you had in Asia. The taste is ok, some food are good. We tried at least 10 menus or more during our multiple visits to Zurich. Young staffers are more welcoming and supportive but stiff and too businesslike and rush-y. Saw some couple’s date was ruined when the food is served and they ate and the bill comes to you right away. No chilling .. Will go again for a quick meal, but always looking for a better Chinese restaurant.

We had some very nice vegetarian dishes. The menu is quite extensive and offers a quite diverse selection of Chinese dishes. The atmosphere is good, but nothing out of the ordinary. This is made up by the rather affordable prices especially for the location. If you're looking for nice, affordable Chinese food close to the main station and city center, this is the place for you.

Chinese food which tastes authentic - this restaurant appears popular with Asian diners. Chefs communicated in Cantonese and Mandarin. It was busy during dinner time, and some customers had to wait to be seated or served. The fried rice and noodles had adequate “wok hei” - an essential element of tasty Chinese stir-fry. Great portions. Prices were reasonable, considering the average cost of dining out in Zurich. The menu is rather extensive, unfortunately we did not have the chance to try more dishes here. I feel this place is worth a visit!

Very very rude. I was there today and tried to talk to a woman who works there. She seems very annoyed and didn't want to answer my question. When a Chinese restaurant treats customers like this, especially Chinese customers like me, I find it very disgraceful. Even if the food isn't bad, I wouldn't go again in the future!

I had hotpot for dinner. It was perfect with the cold weather outside. However, menu1 was tasteless. I was seated outside because it was already full when I got there. It was nice to be seated outside, you'll see the busy city of Zürich. Service wasn't impressive. Menu was taken and I asked beforehand to not include potatoes, yet still it was given. It took time to remove the potatoes. Not very friendly nor organised.

Restaurant quite packed. Had to sit upstairs for 2. Not much space to move around. Ordered a plate of vegetable chf21.50, seaweed egg soup chf14, fried horfun chf20.50, white rice chf2.50, 2 drinks chf9.80. Food taste good and friendly staff.

Wanted to got to pasta restaurant across the street, but it was unexpected closed. Was better than any Asian I have had in the States. Wish I didn't have to travel 4000 miles to come back (but it would be worth it)

The worst Chinese restaurant of my life, to avoid, the service and the dish is mediocre

Food was very good and authentic, which is difficult to find in Europe. We had the Shanghai dumplings for starters, which were well seasoned, and slightly varying from traditional but in a tasty way. We also had the salt and pepper tofu and the string beans with pork mince, which were well seasoned and delicious.

Comfort Chinese food in the heart of Zurich

The restaurant was not that crowded, one server told us to sit at one of the tables and we did. Another older lady told us to get out and said that table was reserved when there was no sign. She ushered us across the street to another Chinese restaurant way more casual and told us to stay there. We could be insulted but instead we thought it was funny that the lady did not like us and kicked us out. We probably didn’t meet her standards.

Long wait. Rude service. Food is authentic but hit or miss

Maoxuewang is delicious! Stir-fried yellow beef is a must-have! The boss and his wife are very nice! The location of the store is very good, at the entrance of the old town! There is also hot pot in the store. I must bring my boyfriend over to try it next time!

This place made my first Zurich family dinner in my life a sad experience. After a long wait to order, the cold food I received was very disappointing.

For our 24 hour short stay in Zurich, we came here twice for food. The service is great and the food is tasty. The location is very convenient as it's right next to the train station.

I ordered fried noodles with duck and waited a good half an hour. But the wait wasn't worth it: the duck meat was mostly skin.

Ordered pineapple pork and Sprite. The gravy was fine, but the oil used for frying the meat had obviously not been changed for a long time, and the meat had a fishy smell. The Sprite had obviously been poured out for a long time, and I even thought it might have been overnight, because the breath was gone and there was still an indescribable smell. Anyway, don’t order these two things.

The boss and his wife are very enthusiastic and the dishes are delicious, especially the fried pork, which is a must-order every time.

Surprisingly delicious and authentic Chinese food in Central Zurich! Both the Chopstick restaurant and the Express are from the same owner, with the same menu. Staff friendly, good English. We were seated outside on the road and the red light from the banner was a bit rough on our eyes and not very nice, hence one less star. The steamed chicken was very tender and juicy. Portions generous. I was not impressed with the bubble tea though, especially the tapioca. Overall I would definitely recommend.

We sat outside, they brought us dishes that we hadn't ordered and they served us in turns and not all together, the last dish arrived more than half an hour after the others. Maybe it was an emergency due to lack of staff... but still, not a great experience. Friendly staff.

A real institution! Located right at the entrance to the old town, you have the choice between the new and old restaurants on opposite sides of the street. We often like to go to the older part, the Chop-Stick Express. The menu is large and varied. Many vegetarian dishes are offered. The dishes are always freshly prepared and very tasty! Both experienced and trainee service employees work in the service department. They are all very friendly. Some employees take the order in English, others in perfect Swiss German. At Chop-Stick Express you usually meet Asian guests who clearly feel comfortable here. The host family and the whole team (especially dear S.!) make a visit to the Chop-Stick a wonderful experience!

It's quite a restaurant. In particular, fried rice, mapo tofu, and kkoobaro are the best. P.S. Sometimes they only give you an a la carte menu, but in those cases, if you want to order from the waiter, they will bring you a real Chinese menu.

Food was really great. Unfortunately, just a little. I ordered duck and asked for noodles as a side dish instead of rice. Only available with an additional charge of CHF 5.00. I don't understand, I gave up on it. PASTA is also on the memory card so no extra request. A pity

Loved the food here! It’s not always easy to find authentic Chinese food in Europe so finding Chop-Stick was a pleasant surprise. My Chinese Canadian boyfriend found it while browsing on Maps and confirmed it was pretty good!

The skins of the wonton noodles and dumpling noodles melted as soon as you pinched them, and they tasted mushy. The vegetables served with the bowl were raw and gritty. I ordered oolong tea and jasmine tea, one cent each. The oolong tea was as light as water, like being brewed second-hand.

The food was meh. I think you can find better food elsewhere.

Overall it was great, although there were songs like 50 cent, snoop dogg, eminem and so on screaming at everyone nearby, which ruined the atmosphere. Prices are a little more expensive than in Germany, which is good. In terms of service, we waited a long time to be served, we waited about 10 minutes for food. I have been a customer of Chop-Stick for many, many years. Mostly on site, occasionally also with takeaway. There is now also a more elegant part opposite, for those who would prefer it that way. I prefer the original part. The food is very tasty, quick and freshly prepared. The portions are filling and there is also plenty for vegetarians. The service is friendly, sometimes uncertain and only speaks English. Why? Because they are trainees, leniency would be appropriate.

Excellent food, exactly like we would eat in North East China. We really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend, it is more genuinely proper Chinese food.

Food was delicious! We ordered sweet & sour pork and beef with broccoli coupled with white rice. It was very tasty, total bill came up to CHF 62 which was reasonable for swiss. The toilets are clean and provides free wifi. They didn't take very long to serve the food as well. Highly recommend!

Honestly, it's very beautiful and delicious. I haven't tasted a Chinese restaurant for a long time. Everything is beautiful in it. Great service and nice prices. It's worth a visit.

It’s really a surprise to find a very authentic Chinese restaurant at the backstreet of my hotel. Here is Zurich and I don’t think there is a huge chinese community closed by. Still their food is really authentic. Thumbs Up👍

Went for dinner today. The food in the restaurant is delicious and very authentic! The fruit watermelon after the meal was super sweet, I should have been able to eat half a piece by myself

I had two of them with a friend. The pork in chile oil was fantastic; it was hot but in a good way hot, and the pork was really tender and well-marinated. If you can handle spice, I definitely recommend it. Despite the large portions, the cost was high since it was in the heart of Zurich.

One thing positive about this place is that, the food taste was nit bad. But, all ruined due to very very poor service. The served food as and when they pleased rather than in the order at which they were eaten. We had ordered 3 main dishes and 3 plates of fried rice. So, tgey served 2 main dishes and after waiting for quite some time 1 plate of fried rice. The same chaos for the remaining order. Bottom line is, if you don’t want to waste your evening just avoid this place.

The food is weird and the smell is not for me at all

Lakal has plenty of space (inside and outside - terrace). The menu has a large selection of dishes. Way too much. Before you go through the entire menu, the waiter comes to take your order. The menu contains too many dishes unnecessarily. I am convinced that half of them are ordered very rarely. Today's modern gastronomy focuses on a small number of dishes, but they change frequently. The service is very friendly and reliable, which is a big plus. The dish I ordered contained virtually no vegetables, which surprised me. Asian cuisine is known for its high proportion of vegetables. My soup was 60% pasta, which wasn't very tasty, 30% meat, and 10% practically invisible vegetables. The broth contained almost no spices. It was tasteless and quite sweet - just glutamine ?. I didn't find Asia in this restaurant, which is a shame because it has potential. I would rate my visit a 3 - all thanks to the wait staff and quick service. Maybe something will change?

On the last day of my trip to Switzerland with my parents, I went to Jingso for a meal. The restaurant was so big that it was split on both sides of the alley, so there were plenty of seats. I ordered duck noodles, fried rice, mapo tofu, meat, and vegetable dishes, and they were all so delicious❤️‍🔥 I was so satisfied that I gave it a 10 out of 10! The server lady was also very friendly, so we ended our meal happily while chatting with Hyun Bin. I think the meal was more enjoyable thanks to the server, thank you ☺️ I think I will go again when I go to Zurich! Bless you all!
