Don Leone in Zürich

Finding the perfect pizza in Zurich has been a journey, especially with my Swiss Italian roots setting the bar high 🍕. But I've finally hit the jackpot at Don Leone! The pizza here is nothing short of fabulous – the dough, a dreamy blend of crispy and chewy, just melts in your mouth. What made our visit even more special was the incredibly kind staff, who made us feel like family from the moment we stepped in. Spending such a fabulous evening with my loved ones, enjoying mouthwatering pizza, was truly unforgettable. If you're in Zurich craving authentic pizza, Don Leone is the place to be! 🌟🍽️

I think the food is very, very good but unfortunately it always took a long time until the food was there, it wasn't that expensive, we just ate a lot

Spontaneous visit to this pizzeria. Unfortunately it took a bit long; until the table has been cleared and made available by the previous person. 30 minutes after ordering, the salad was finally served and after another 40 minutes our two pizzas. These were mushy because they had probably been in the plate for a long time. There was probably too much focus on the take-away business and the waiting guests were forgotten. Later guests were also served their food beforehand. There probably won't be a second visit.

When my pizza was served I thought "omg, I'll never make it". But it tasted so great that the size wasn't a problem. The service is very attentive and friendly.

We had the best service from a gentleman who is originally from Portugal but now has been living in Zurich for the past 24 years (we never got his name). He was personable, friendly, professional and completely made our experience memorable. We have travelled to 3 different countries in the last month and this guy was the best server we encountered. His wine and food recommendations were superb! Thank you Don Leone for an unforgettable time!

Very nice, funny service, the food was delicious, the ambience was actually very nice, but the seating was too tight.

During my recent visit to Don Leone, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality and generous portions of the food. Every dish was excellently prepared, making each bite a delightful experience. However, the overall experience was marred by the excessive wait times. Even for something as basic as water, we found ourselves waiting unusually long. Additionally, our drink orders were forgotten multiple times, suggesting a potential issue with staff being overwhelmed. The restaurant itself was packed to the brim, which not only impacted the service but also affected the ambiance. It felt more like a place to leave quickly after eating rather than a spot to linger for additional drinks. My suggestion would be to consider removing a few tables. This would give the staff more space to move and attend to guests more efficiently. I believe that such a change could positively impact service quality and encourage longer stays by guests, ultimately reflecting in better tips and increased sales. In summary, Don Leone has the potential to be a top-notch dining destination, provided some adjustments are made to enhance the customer experience.

Great restaurant behind the Stauffacher on Beckerstrasse. Very homely atmosphere, the only thing that wasn't good was the coffee. It was brewed too hot and was very bitter, which was a shame. We tried to explain this to the service staff, but he didn't understand us properly. We'll definitely go again, but we'll skip the coffee. Otherwise really great 👍

My favorite Italian! Very varied menu and the food is always delicious. But the best thing is the very personal service! Clear five stars.

One of my favorite pizzeria in Zurich!!

Probably the worst pizza I've ever had in Switzerland. I had dinner many times at Don Leone in Thalwil and the one close to Sihlcity and they are both ok, but I wouldn't go back to this one. We booked a table and had to wait 30 minutes to sit, but this is something I could still accept. The worst part is that my pizza prosciutto and funghi was in reality a margherita with some toppings added last minute, including the ham which was super thick, cold from the fridge, and of a poor quality (this is visible even from the picture). Absolutely not recommended.

Nice Italian food place. Good ambience but very stuffed. Too little place between tables. The service was good. Quattro formaggi pizza was delicious. The menu is only in Italian, so prepare your Google translate if you are not familiar with Italian cuisine.

Fine Italian food, just not top.

If the valuables are left lying around or If you forget it and you go there after 2 days to ask whether it might have been forgotten in the restaurant, you get the answer that it was left outside unattended by the service for 24 hours and then it is no longer there. The answer was: it had been too long not coming over for 2 days. After all, it was still at the table 24 hours after the visit. There is no indication that the valuables will be included in the lost property. Thank you for being considerate of the fact that you are working and can't go there the day after your visit. I am aware that it was my mistake to leave something behind, but I have never experienced valuables being treated like this. Such a service can be saved and I will never go there again. Take care of your valuables!

The waiter was very friendly, they served us quickly but the food was very bad, the pizzas were normal, nothing spectacular, the spaghetti was terrible, they gave it to us half raw, we ordered spaghetti pomodoro, the portion was very small , it was also half raw and the thick spaghetti they have there takes away all the flavor of the sauce. I ordered Spaghetti Vongole and it was super heavy, salty, with too much oil. Waste of money, I don't recommend it at all.

If I had to describe it in three words: terrible, incompetent and disrespectful! If I could, I would give it minus stars. It started with us 30 minutes. Had to wait for our table, got the wrong food and as if that wasn't enough, we had to have a verbal fight with the employee. He offered us a round of Prosecco for the 20 minute wait. We asked for the 20min. According to what our table looked like, he said it would take another 10 minutes. In return he offered us dessert, which we gladly accepted. He showered us with compliments and flattery throughout the evening. (very sexist) Then we got the starter, which unfortunately came wrong (1 of 4) and was offered to us by the chef himself. For dessert we had another glass of wine because we were full from the main course, which was really good. When we got the invoice, everything that we were offered was listed plus things that we hadn't ordered. We wanted to sort it out objectively and in a decent way, but he attacked us verbally, started saying the opposite, got personal, waved his hand in my face and wanted to call the police. Just unprofessional and disrespectful. Conclusion: Not recommended at all, disorganized and disrespectful at the same time.

The pizzas are amazing Not sure for the carbonara pasta which seem quite heavy though The service is competent, nice and smiling people. They come to the table when relevant and this is appreciated.

Not a really Italian style pizza, super flat and with crunchy edges. There are much better Napolitean pizza places in Zurich, it's a shame because the atmosphere looks fine.

The environment was nice. The food, subpar. The carbonara was a soup with cubes of parmesan. I ate a few bites and then left it, it had no taste and consistency was not enjoyable.

Nice, cozy and small restaurant. The Casarecce with truffles, the Taglierini Diavolo and also the pizzas are very tasty. Unfortunately the spaghetti carbonara was served cold. (unfortunately no photo)

Downgrade from 4 to 3 stars. In my opinion, the quality of gluten-free pizza has declined significantly compared to 2 years ago. After they couldn't make me a pizza calzone, they asked me if I would like to have another one. Unfortunately, this was significantly more expensive, which I wasn't told. It would have been okay if I had been told that. Since I didn't have a reservation, I was only given a table for an hour. I found it annoying that the lady who made this decision was occupying two places with an acquaintance the entire time. Due to my lactose intolerance, I now also have stomach problems as there was not enough time to find out about the alternative. When it comes to pizza, Don Leone has lost its appeal for me.

Very good and large pizzas, always full, it's best to make a reservation, even at lunchtime.

The best pizza I have ever eaten in Zurich! The restaurant is quite small but very coolly decorated. And you have a complete overview😁😎 The staff is very accommodating and super friendly! Food is also served very quickly. What I found to be very special was that you could take the pizza to the next level with an extra “mozzarella di bufala”. - Calabrese pizza - Pizza Celentano - Cola Zero and 2 x water (without) = 61.- (espresso was on the house) Thank you and see you soon!!!! By far the worst shop in all of Zurich and not recommended! Visited on Sunday evening, small manageable shop with an extremely cheeky waiter! After sitting for 10 minutes, my husband and I got the menu and were allowed to order our drinks, 2 Aperol Spritz and a water without. After a long time only the 2 Aperol arrived and these were uncarbonated and stale, because of the water the waiter asked again whether with or without and came to the table with the wrong bottle. After sitting in front of the menu for a while, we were allowed to order our food, 2 pasta dishes to start with and a meat dish as a second course. After waiting for 1 hour, the pasta dishes were still not at the table and to be honest, I never had to wait over 1 hour for pasta in any restaurant. Neither cutlery nor food were brought to us, although the tables that came after us were already served and eating. The cheekiness was when the waiter at the table next to us turned to us and asked if we wanted another dessert!!! We didn't even get our first meal!!! No apology for his mistakes, no offer of a drink, nothing!!! The food was tasty, but you could have eaten elsewhere with educated service. We will never visit the shed again with such uneducated staff from whom you get no apology and are simply ignored. I had the feeling that his mood sank when we complained about his Aperol Spritz and that's why he treated us so badly. Disrespectful, cheeky and not up to the job, I can't say more about the young man! The managing director should take better care of staff who know and love the job!

Miserable. We reserved a table for 4 online and even had this confirmed again by phone. On the day of the reservation we had to wait 30+ minutes in the restaurant only to be told that we no longer had room. It's a shame, but we will certainly never go to Don Leone again.

Last year in September I was here with my cousin. The restaurant is super nice, I personally really liked the ambience and I enjoyed the food and wine. The only thing I was shocked about was the bill. We had ordered half a carafe of the house wine which is 0.5L and instead of charging this as half a bottle of white wine we were charged per wine glass. That changed the mood because we only realized later that that wasn't right. We felt like we had been ripped off. The waitress could have otherwise informed us that we would be charged per glass for such a request. I don't tolerate that, so I only give one star, even though the food tasted good.

Yesterday we reserved a table for 4 people. When we got there we were told that the table wasn't ready yet and that we should wait a moment. After about 10 minutes we asked again and were again told to wait a moment. After another 10 minutes we complained again, again the same answer. But we didn't want to give up and insist on our reservation. They said it was busy and we would definitely have to wait another 15 minutes. So a total of 35 minutes despite a confirmed reservation! The anger was obvious, whereupon the waiter eagerly offered us the don Leone l’Aperitivo (on the opposite side of the street) so that we could get to our dinner more quickly. We accepted the compromise somewhat reluctantly because the hunger was now great. We were again left to stand in the entrance area for 5 minutes and were then told that nothing was available there either. The anger was now clearly visible and we emphasized again that we had a reservation. The waiter then just said that it was busy. At least he apologized. It's a real shame because we were looking forward to eating here. But that certainly won't happen again because we will certainly never come here again.

Very nice restaurant, I like very much the decoration, until now we have come twice with my husband, both times we were very satisfied not only with the delicious food 😋, but also with the service provided by the staff, sure we will back! 😃

What an evening, we loved it. From the reception to the starter to the main course, it was fantastic. Incredible ambience with candlelight, attentive and cheerful service, the best pizza I've ever eaten. The price-performance ratio rounded off the evening. It is important that you reserve, as it is very difficult to get a table without a reservation. We will definitely be back, praise goes to the entire Don Leone team.

We ate at Don Leone on a Saturday evening... I can only say that from the reception, service to the food it was just top!! The starter from the finest Italian salami with cheese and grilled vegetables, to the pizza is simply a culinary delight. For me it's the best pizza I've ever eaten in a restaurant!! 👌👌... and the very nice service is a big compliment!! we will definitely come back!! Grazie Mille

Spaghetti Carbonara: 5/5 Pizza: 3/5 Tiramisu: 1/5 (tasted like nothing) Service: 2/5 (had to wait a long time for the main course, espresso macchiato was forgotten) Atmosphere: 3/5 (but: sat right next to the coffee machine and the knocking out of the coffee grounds container every few minutes was very (!) loud)

Amazing Pizza and friendly service

One of the best pizzas in Zurich. Wine recommendation from the waiter was good. The wine list has everything your heart desires. The menu also offers everything. In any case, everything was very uncomplicated and friendly. The decor is nice too.

Roman style pizza was ok, perhaps a bit too loaded but some people like this. Wide selection of "antipasti" with fresh and tasty ingredients. Long list of different pasta formats and sauces. Did not had Tham but they looked good and tasty. Prompt and gentle service. The place instead is a bit small and can get stuffed quite easily. Restrooms are not wheelchair accessible. Only 3 stars because the place is ok but quite small and the pizzas are good but you can find better in Zürich.
