Food good and fresh. Service is very inattentive.

Obviously it doesn't taste 100% like the food in Mexico, it's not in Mexico and obviously they are not the same ingredients but the food is good, the service is great and the workers are super friendly and many are Latin, without a doubt going to that restaurant was an incredible experience, I recommend it 100%

Good food, the service is attentive, but is constantly stressful. The atmosphere also suffers from this; it is nicely decorated but very hectic.

The food was incredibly good and beautifully prepared, everything was freshly prepared, you could taste it, and the staff were very friendly and attentive even though there was a lot going on and they were stressed. The nachos were soooo perfect. We didn't have to wait long and I can't really understand the bad reviews. Since it is very busy, I would recommend making a reservation online. We'll definitely be back, thank you for the lovely evening.

I was immediately impressed by the colorful Mexican atmosphere. The service was brilliant and very attentive. We were given great advice, even when it came to drinks. For the aperitif I had a margarita mango. The starter was Selección de Entradas. The main course was Trocitos de Pollo. Everything was really delicious. We will be back definitely. The price-performance ratio is completely right.

How does this place have a 4.1 the service and ambience may be passable but goodness the food was horrible! We got the chicken fajitas. The chicken with onions and peppers looked like they had been opened in bags and thrown into the pan to heat up! The fajitas were cold! In short, I paid 79 francs and left in a hurry having barely touched the food. Strongly not recommended

We visited Restaurant El Mexicano Basel on our first night to Basel. The restaurant was brightly themed, fun, and clean. We were sat promptly and our server was quite attentive. We had great service and drinks. The food unfortunately is not close to "Mexican" food at all - the enchiladas were hit and miss on flavor, despite this. We still enjoyed our time while here.

Were there for the second time on Saturday. The first time as a couple everything was perfect. The last time with four adults and 2 children we weren't very enthusiastic: the drinks came first and my wife's glass had your big lip print... Aren't the glasses washed?? Then we waited forever for food, the children were tired and restless at the end, so I ordered dessert early. Unfortunately, we waited a very long time for this too. By the time the ice cream finally arrived, it had already melted and was more like cream instead of ice cream. It's a shame... it was probably ready for a long time, but the waitresses didn't get around to serving it?? even though they were running back and forth. But the biggest disappointment was that such a large restaurant with so many tables only had TWO children's chairs!?! We were told off three times that we would get one when “the guests downstairs” were ready… after almost 3 hours the stole still wasn’t there! Luckily, a family across the street had finished eating and put their child on their lap so we could use the chair and eat normally. --> 2 children's chairs for the huge guest capacity is a no-go! please get 5 of the stackable IKEA children's chairs...

This 'restaurant' has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Mexican food!!! Although you have to ask yourself whether opening the freezer, putting the goods on the plate and putting them in the microwave has anything to do with a restaurant... 🤔 and at completely overpriced prices!!! Rip-off of the worst kind! Quality: UNDERGROUND!!! We returned our food twice because it was cold. The third time it was burned... but since we were really hungry by now, we ate it anyway... Service: was the best part of the visit! He apologized and offered coffee. Unfortunately, a coffee can't make up for this catastrophe 🤷🏻‍♀️ ambience: advertising for other Central/South American countries at the Mexican restaurant…??? 🤔 music tends to be too loud. menu was greasy. and the Christmas tree (see photo) should clarify all further questions… (visit was on December 27th, 2023). Conclusion: EVERY FRANC you spend is too much, definitely NEVER AGAIN!

The food is great and there is a choice. The service at the entrance and the boss are great. Service at the place is a bit slow, perhaps because of the Corona phase or because it is always very full. I would always make a reservation otherwise it would be difficult. I probably go there 2 to 3 times a month. Today at women's evening the food was 50%. As always, great food and great service. A lot of things have been added to the menu or taken away

It's just crazy with you. These spare ribs are always so on point. Were now for the 4th time and again and again. It's also great that you don't have a lunch break like you usually do in the city. Because of the shift work, I can only meet up with my colleague for dinner in Basel in the afternoon. Thank you for that!!

Lovely ambience to the place with colourful, fun decor. Servers are very friendly and the service was good. Unfortunately the food was not good. Don’t go here if you are looking for authentic ‘Mexican’ food. The Yucatán Salsa in the taco, as far as I can tell, was like a burger/kebab sauce. Small portion of rib for the price. Cocktails were very good. I would recommend going for a drink- try the food if you are not too fussy.

Very unstructured. We received the starters after 45 minutes and then we had to wait another 1:15 hour for the main course At first the lady only came to us with a plate. I started eating. I shared the meal with my girlfriend because she didn't get her plate. When I already touched the whole food with my hands. The lady came back to us and said it was the wrong table and took my plate away and gave it to someone else. I tried to explain to the ladies that I had a slight cold and that I had already touched food. I also went into the sauces with my finger to try them. We had the same order. So it couldn't be more unhygienic. And many other things! Such as the food was so cold, the wrong bill was received, etc Never go to this restaurant again and I will not recommend it to anyone!!!!!!

The food was quite good although the spiciness of Mexican food was quite far from it. The waiter was friendly but did not know Spanish, it is hardly credible that the only thing that was Spanish on the menu was the names of the dishes.

I actually always liked this restaurant - until I ordered the “new” tacos for the first time. It didn't say that the sauce was so overly spicy - you couldn't eat it. Then I just gave it back. They didn't say anything, they said they would pass it on and then they asked me if I wanted to order the same thing again since I hadn't eaten any of it. I said no, it doesn't make sense if it's so spicy. I had to pay the entire amount and we weren't offered anything, maybe a coffee or whatever. Disappointing…

Excellent Mexican, very good atmosphere, very good food and very good cocktails. I can only recommend! Their platters can also be shared. These are very generous portions, even for me who is a big eater.

Delivery time was 2 hours 17 minutes and the food was low quality, cold and soggy. The boss's response to my criticism was also rude and unfriendly, and the responsibility was shifted to others. An apology would have been enough, unfortunately not recommended!

Restaurant had a very lively atmosphere, pleasant service and typical Mexican food, which we could enjoy under the "expert supervision" of our Mexican friend, who also enjoyed it.

El Mexicano is a fantastic Mexican place in Basel. Very friendly staff, great selection of cocktails and other drinks. Wide selection of vegetarian options, also vegan options. Excellent location, outdoor seating is great (weather permitting).

The food was served cold and the burrito was bland. The service was great and they then offered an espresso.

I had a good time, The meal was quite nice. We took a Mexican specialty board to share. Two dishes that were excellent stood out, the rest of the meal was good but nothing crazy. Mexican setting but it's a shame that the atmosphere (including the music) doesn't follow. Quite expensive meal but normal for a restaurant in Switzerland.

A large selection of Mexican-style dishes and drinks, independent selection of ingredients in dishes suitable for vegans. The food is delicious and has an authentic taste, the portions are correct. The atmosphere is pleasant with a view on the main street, the service is fast, and the staff is correct. The price-quality ratio is at a satisfactory level. Good enough to come back again.

I haven't eaten or drunk so badly in a long time. The wine was gone and when we told the waiter he said it was because of the grapes. You could tell he didn't know anything about crying. Bad service. It took 3 hours to receive the menu, starter and main course. Even when we asked for the bill, it was not brought to us. For everything you had to ask/remind again but that was also difficult because the staff never really looked to see whether a guest would like anything else. Bland barely seasoned and salted vegetables with tastless cheap cheese. Food is far away from good or even average Mexican food. Why is it so hard to actually use Mexican spices also with the vegetables. Especially, if it's the only content.

The employees there are all very friendly, humorous and motivated and spread a good mood. The restaurant is very nicely designed and has a typical Mexican atmosphere, which I really like. There is very good food there, you can only enjoy it. There is a lot going on on weekends, which is why the food can be delayed, but I completely understand that. I would recommend it to everyone.

Service was unmotivated and simply ran away when ordering drinks. We waited 1.5 hours for our food, which was not tasty for the overpriced price. Food ordered without coriander and delivered. Drink was forgotten and not brought. One person received the wrong order. Unfortunately a bad experience and the last time for us. The boss at least made an effort and apologized for the mistakes. We appreciated that.

The tacos ordered are not worthy of the price of 30 francs and the quality is poor, did not seem fresh and had only been warmed up. The tacos were completely soggy, "tangy" and gratinated with rubbery cheese, careless factory lettuce sprinkled on top and wrapped in a plastic box - they taste better on any plane. Unfortunately not edible for this price. Unworthy of any taco.

If you want to eat delicious vegan Mexican food, you've come to the right place! Insanely good soft tacos with vegan pulled pork and a delicious mojito;) that's what we were missing in Basel. great service team and great atmosphere. Heartfelt recommendation. Again and again, see you soon!

I've eaten better here. The prices are still moderate. The new chef may still have to settle in and so do certain waiters. The old staff still the joker, friendly and funny!

The three of us went to El Mexicano for lunch today and ate twice from the lunch menu and a Quesedilla Verdura. The lunch menu as well as the quesedilla were simply amazing in terms of taste, everything was very delicately seasoned and exactly to our taste. The service was very friendly and competent. We can recommend it to everyone and will be coming back very soon.

I often come here to eat or smoke a good cigar on the terrace. You eat very well here, good cocktails, good music and a nice atmosphere. Price / offer: Very good.

I went to El Mexicano with my friends to celebrate my birthday, because on the day of your birthday you get the starter, main course, dessert and birthday drink for free. That's why the first star. The second star is for the nice service and quick serving of the food. However, the food didn't taste good. The sauces were all bought and the enchilidas' dough was soggy with sauce and the giant prawns tasted strange. The dessert was not at all like what was shown on the menu, with much less fruit. I also reserved seats on the 1st floor. It wasn't until I was there that I was told that the first floor is only open on Thursdays and Fridays, when the band is playing. So there was no birthday music. No photo was taken and presented in an eternal memory plate that I can take home with me. Since some of the things described on the website are simply not true, I no longer trust El Mexicano. The better Mexican restaurant for me is definitely Cucaracha in Basel.
