Restaurant near the center of Basel, small and welcoming. The owner is very kind and speaks a little Italian. We tasted the Fondue which was a pleasure. Prices are in line with Switzerland But if you're in Basel it's worth trying their signature dish 😎

Perfect! The food wad delicious, the service was great, the place was warm and cozy during a cold raining night. We had a raclette and a fondue and it's was very good. If you're in Basel, you need to stop by and taste the Swiss food there.

Unfortunately, allergy sufferers won't get their money's worth here. If you ask whether there are also lactose-free dishes, you will be informed that classic Swiss cuisine is cooked here and that all dishes have lactose. That's fun if you, as a restaurateur, have no ingenuity at all. You can also make a pepper sauce without lactose. Thanks, but never again for me.

Is a well located restaurant in a slightly upscale setting.

Disappointed is the best word. Went for dinner with high expectations due to previous reviews, but it's just not it. The waiter was impatient (God knows why) and was pulling faces all night long. The food was mediocre at best - and way too expensive. We paid 150chf for a fondue, two main meals, 2 beers and 2 cokes. The fondue was ok (not the best), the Wiener Schnitzel was soggy. The owner lady was nice until we paid and didn't leave a tip - very simply because a tip to me means I received something exceptional. Either exceptional service, or food. Neither which was the case here. She then didn't even bother to say goodbye back.

A cozy place. The attention of 10, the guy was super attentive and attentive to how we were. The delicious risotto and the delicious fondue. Recommended. Central location and easy to find.

We ate there on a Saturday and had made a reservation, the table (table of four) was already prepared (there were leftover dried cheese on one plate). We were greeted unfriendly by an older lady. (The reason is inexplicable to us). She was annoyed right from the start and seemed dissatisfied with us as guests (perhaps because we didn't correspond to the regular clientele of over 60). The restaurant was well filled and relatively loud. We ordered a cheese fondue (35 CHF per person, rather expensive, but delicious). This happened relatively quickly. During the course of the evening a young group of Spanish women came (maiden party), therefore not fancy, but in contrast to us, they were received extremely friendly and with acceptable English. Towards the end, when we were having dessert, the older lady sat another guest at our table without asking or announcing it. We and he found this extremely unpleasant, which the waitress didn't care about because she commented: "He doesn't bite." Accordingly, our evening ended earlier than expected.

Dropped in from the street with no reservation ahead. Had a wonderful swiss meal, with lovely fondue and a surprisingly tasty veal&rosti, all perfectly balanced with a plum sorbet drizzled with a plumb brandy. The staff was always trying to help and understand our needs, being curteous and efficient. House wine didn't disappoint but was nothing fancy, as it should be. Yes, the food in Basel is expensive but the experience and warmth of the people that man this place surely make up for it, in a homy atmosphere. The kitchen communicates with thw parolur so you hear and smell everything you're about to eat, some of the smells sticking to the clothes, but nobody seemed to mind over the laughter and good time.

A delightful little place for fondue. While the fondue is slightly salty for my palate, it is otherwise perfect.

Great for anyone looking for uncomplicated traditional Swiss cuisine and ambience. Rösti, cheese fondue and relevant meat specialties available, as well as a large selection of starters and desserts. The fact that I accidentally only reserved for 1 instead of 5 using the online form was resolved professionally by the staff.

Here you get the best cheese fondue in Basel. This has been my first address for decades. Price performance top, ambience top, service top. For those who don't love cheese fondue, there are traditional Swiss dishes to suit. Everything fits. Please continue!

Small, centrally located restaurant right next to a tram stop. Cozy environment that makes you comfortable while dining. Staff are quite polite. Food are in big portions and is quite good.

A small, cozy parlor in a prime city location. The food is very tasty, and we can particularly recommend the cheese fondue. The service is very good and leaves nothing to be desired.

Small but cute restaurant. We decided to have lunch there as the reviews were good. The Service felt rushed, but they were always friendly. The Food was a bit bland for my taste, but the portions were great for the price especially considering that a soup and salad was included as well. All in all it was ok but nothing special.

A birthday party with excellent fondue served discreetly by a great service team. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. I can only recommend the fondue and a sorbet for dessert.

I occasionally come to Basel, and a friend recommended that I must eat Zurich veal Zürcher Geschnetzeltes. I found this restaurant near the station, but unfortunately it happened to be a Saturday. The boss said that the reservations were fully booked for the entire evening, and asked if it could be made for takeout. The store was very considerate. Packing the potato pancakes and beef sauce separately, we also got some small discounts because of the takeaway. You must order the Zurich Veal Zürcher Geschnetzeltes when you come here, because even if you take it out, you will find it super delicious after eating it for more than ten minutes, although it may be a little salty for Taiwanese tastes and needs some water occasionally. Although the portion does not seem too big, it can almost satisfy the appetite of two Asian girls. The clerk also reminded that there may be some slight changes in the menu on weekends and during the week, and you may need to inquire on the spot.

This cozy Swiss dining experience was perfect. Our server Alen helped us select a menu of cheese fondue, special salad, wine and veal with potato rosti that was perfect in amount, presentation and flavor. It was a quaint, genuine Swiss fine dining experience that is located very close to the Bahnhof SBB rail station. Don't miss this fabulous experience!

In the Elisabethenstübli you can experience real hospitality and expect excellent home-style cuisine. You definitely won't leave the restaurant hungry and if you like fondue, this is the place for you too.

Fantastic restaurant with local Swiss food. I recommend the cheese fondu. The only minus is the price... of water :) CHF 10 per bottle is definitely too much.

A nice casual Swiss restaurant. The fondue and raclette are good and authentic. They also have other options for traditional Swiss food. Everything was good. The service was... earthy. Not technically great, but the gentleman was a lot of fun to talk with. If you require refined service, this isn't the place, but if you want to be able to trade stories and jokes with your waiter while eating good food, it's an excellent choice.

We used to often go to the Elsbethenstübli and were very happy that it opened again. The fondue was perfect, the service friendly and accommodating. The gentle renovation has also done the “Stübli” a lot of good. We'd love to come back!

The food and service was, as always, very good. Table reservation everything went smoothly and we felt very comfortable and are always happy to come back.

The Elsbethenstübli is a very good, long-established restaurant in Basel. The excellent fondue but also many well-known dishes such as raclette, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, Älpler Rösti, Wienerschnitzel, tartare and a Graubünden plate can be found on the menu. Not to forget the legendary Karamelköpfli. It is a great pleasure to dine in the Elsbethenstübli. Thanks to the excellent and competent service, you can look forward to a fantastic stay in this restaurant. I will definitely go there again soon.

One of the savers was really not nice and she made us choose without time to think. We ate well even if the fondue was very liquid, and the place was still nice.

Very good fondue, strong cheeses. Loved the pickles too! The staff was very nice to me. I would definitely return here. I do recommend booking a table, the place is small and usually full so if you want to be sure you have a spot, book a table.

Not even know where to start…. We were a group of nine sitting at a table of four. Some fell off the corner. And we go from 0 degrees outside to 28 in two steps. The owner of the place was VERY, VERY rude. However, his younger companion was very nice. Black and white. He has treated us very badly, first of all, he has forced us to ask for more. Second, he spoke Italian to us when we repeated to him MULTIPLE times that we were not Italian, but Spanish, and that we spoke English, French and German. We have asked for water and wine and they have brought it to us with open bottles. The water was CLEARLY from the tap (they charged us 10 chf). We ordered 4 ice creams for desserts, and he brought us 4 scoops in 2 glasses, and it was not to share. They had never treated us like this. Clearly if they continue like this, their business is going to go down. Good night.

We came here as a family several years ago and really enjoyed it. This time there were 11 of us so we booked for 7.30pm on Saturday. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived and the only spare tables were reserved. The atmosphere was lovely and the food delicious. Everyone enjoyed what they had. No one had fondue but this seemed to be a popular choice with other guests. Tram 2 stops right outside so very easy to get to from our hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Based on our experience would suggest you book for a weekend. Not sure how busy they are during the week.

Very characteristic place. The staff speaks Italian and is very helpful in recommending dishes. Nice experience even though the founde is not a dish that drove me crazy, unlike the liver which was spectacular.

Lovely Swiss food and service and atmosphere

Clean and simply furnished. The pea soup was good and we got fresh bread with it. The bratwurst was also good, the onion sauce was a little too thin and the hash browns were a little over-fried. For dessert, a fresh caramel bowl, which was excellent.

Very unpleasant owner/ server, was coming over to check that we were eating fast enough every few minutes, while also pushing hard to spend more. The only light relief was when he claimed some tat on the wall was worth 60,000 Francs!

A small quaint local restaurant with superior food and wonderful staff. Enjoyed two different veal dishes along with a small green salad and dessert. Wonderful service via Alen and Bea. Don't miss this one when looking for a great Swiss dinner.

Raclette was fantastic. Heads up it comes as two separate plates. They bring the second one once you're done the first so you have it all fresh and melty. Service was nice.

The manager(owner?) gave us bottled water which was already opened so it was obviously tap water in a bottle for which he charged $7.00. He also charged us a 15% tip after I signed the receipt. Don't recommend this place for obvious reasons.

Ordered fondue for 1 person, got for 2 . Extremely expensive!!! About 70 euro for melted cheese and a basket of bread to dip. Will not recommend it!!
