Schützenhaus in Basel

Were there with the carnival clique. Even with large companies, I expect something different in this price category. The menu was a matter of taste and for the price (74.-) we were still rather hungry. An allergy was not taken into account, all she got was rice without anything (celery allergy/vegetarian, nothing more) at the same price. There was an expensive wine and a not so good wine to choose from. The staff probably didn't have a good day and with 80 people only 1 person could check out...we had to beg for a bowl because it was too much effort... Wouldn't a house like this be of interest in making one or two people want to come back?

Fine dining at fair prices especially for Switzerland. Good value. Nice quiet and quaint atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Ambiance is getting old, but still upscale. Unfortunately, this was also noticeable in the mentality of the French employees... as soon as you get a tattoo, you are treated second-rate, sometimes deliberately ignored... a shame, because the food was very tasty.

We were there with a large group for Christmas dinner. The old building is very impressive. It was very warm, the windows can only be opened with a key, but the staff opened this from time to time upon our request. The food was good, but I would have expected something more, e.g. Lactose-free desert was two scoops of sorbet, very bland, without any decoration (fruits, nuts, etc.) in a bowl. Or the starter was a leaf salad with 3 cold mushrooms, a few herbs, sprouts or seeds would have spiced things up. However, the desire to be vegetarian and lactose free worked very well.

Fine food, we had the saddle of venison, which was very well prepared. The service was very nice, but seemed to be a bit at its limit at times with the house full, so it took a little longer. The ambience is nice and spacious (we stayed in the garden room). The price was rather high, I felt the prices for the dessert (cheese plate) and the salad were rather too high, the main course was ok.

We were here for lunch with friends on Sunday, everything was great, thank you very much, we will definitely come back again!

Good food .IT aperitif and attentive, friendly service

We celebrated our golden wedding anniversary on a Sunday in the Schützenzimmer. We received competent and comprehensive advice on the furnishing of the room as well as the choice of menu and wines. The meal was excellent; The “Irish Angus Freiland” beef fillet is unforgettable and tender! The service was very professional and efficient, and everything was always on the table at the agreed times. We would like to thank the entire team for their commitment and performance! We will definitely stop by the Schützenhaus more often before our diamond wedding.

Very cheeky waitress! We waited outside for 20 minutes for someone to serve us until we asked if we could order something and that was what you wanted. You can just have a drink here and I'll get a table ready for you. We customers are not to blame if the staff is in a bad mood! So something like that doesn't work at all! We got up and left!

We went to a café and sweets, which was fine and dandy. Unfortunately, our table wasn't clean and wasn't cleaned after we sat down. Service was OK, but very taciturn. Could be friendlier. Price/performance okay.

We received excellent service and ate very well. The prices are reasonable. Unfortunately we couldn't eat in the beautiful garden due to a thunderstorm, but we were immediately and courteously moved inside. In terms of character, it is a home-style restaurant - or to put it more casually: a club for old, white men.

After we took a break from visiting the Schützenhaus, we tried again yesterday. Unfortunately, exactly the same problem that caused us to take a break - Wienerschnitzel was tough and had a fishy taste. It's a shame, the service was ok. The wine list is great as usual.

Nice traditional restaurant, good food

Lunch in the garden has its charm here. But unfortunately a relaxed conversation is almost impossible with the ambient noise (traffic and full house or full garden). The Vitello Tonnato, on the other hand, flatters the kitchen. That's how it has to be! The dot on the “i” is the patient, hard-working and good-humored service with Italian charm.

We always like to come back and especially enjoy the evenings in the garden. Tuesday evenings are always best when there is music to go along with a good meal. The food is always excellent and we were always well looked after.

We were invited to a birthday party and were very happy with everything. One can only say a successful celebration.

The quality of the food is no longer as good as it used to be. Apparently the restaurant is now run by a large chain store (COOP?). The soup (very hot) and the chocolate ice cream were very good. But the main course was miserable! The so-called Wienerschnitzel was undoubtedly convenience food, flattened on a roller that was probably equipped with many pointed knives to tenderize the meat, the breading seemed to have been stuck on or even rolled in, it did not have any of the usual bubbles after being fried and was easy to use Don't remove it from the meat at all, even with a knife. We will definitely not visit the restaurant again and cannot recommend it.

In this restaurant, food is more of a celebration. Excellent cuisine and attentive service. Reservation essential, at least indoors. The rustic facilities (beautiful vaulted wooden ceiling, original equipment...) are a bit noisy, but ideal for celebrations. Easily accessible by tram; typical for Basel.

A traditional restaurant like there are only a few left. No longer up to date for some customers. But this economy should be viewed in historical context. This is the only way to like the long rifles on the walls and the family crests of the master marksmen and hopefully also the insiders. Solid home-style cuisine with second helpings from the silverware. Versatile wine list with monthly specials. Attentive serving staff professionally served. Great garden under shady trees. Suitable for groups and family celebrations, Parking lots available. Public transport in front of the door. Go there often!

Restaurant that aims to be bourgeois, and it shows. The dishes are impeccable, but you can find the same quality much cheaper.

We had a big event in the Schützenhaus. Despite the sudden massive rainstorm that flooded the entire garden, Mr. Meury and his team did everything they could to give us a fantastic party. Last week I was at the Schützenhaus for a snack. Since it was so hot, we looked for a place under cool old trees and it was very pleasant. I ordered a portion of tartare, the plate was beautifully presented, unfortunately the toasted bread was black, how can you serve something like that? Since only a few tables were occupied, we had to wait a very long time for each order, but this was the case for all guests, we heard complaints from all sides, I wonder where the head of service was, preparing the tables for the evening was more important than serving the waiting guests, you may want to train the employees about priorities.

Such a large and beautiful garden terrace is rarely found in cities. Easy to reach, cool in the hot summer and beautifully shaded by the old trees. A nice atmosphere in the old rifle house. 3 units: A kind of well-kept beer garden and a very nice, slightly raised terrace. The tables are well spaced, generously spaced, white and elegantly laid out. I found the acoustics due to the distance between the tables to be very pleasant. The interior is spacious and well maintained. We received very friendly and competent service. The food was excellent and the menu varied. 3 courses for us and a “greetings from the kitchen”. Price-performance more than justified. We'll definitely go back.

On July 2nd, 2022 we celebrated with guests on the beautiful terrace with lunch our diamond wedding. The food was great. The service was good, despite it being practically full garden, very good, The day will certainly be remembered very fondly by everyone.

Nice location! Service tried hard, overzealous. Eat good. Why the main course, twice the same, is not the same and the meat of the Vitello Tonnato was drowned in a bland sauce is incomprehensible to me. Price-performance is not right for me. Sorry!

The place is very nice and easily accessible with parking in front of the entrance. We didn't have a bad meal, even though it wasn't a special meal. The waits for the dishes are really too long: more than an hour between the starter and the second course.

The setting and the cuisine are top notch, this restaurant is almost timeless, the servers, the place etc. have a charm and professionalism that has become rare these days. The terrace in the middle of town is great, I would rather call it a courtyard, shaded and very pleasant.

Unfortunately, the quality of the map and the service has deteriorated significantly. We were there with 11 people and no one wants to come back.

Well located. Accessible by public transport. Parking spaces for cars are also available opposite the Schützenmattpark. Access is provided with walking aids and wheelchairs, including the toilets. Eaten in the large and shady garden. The large thoroughfare inevitably results in the corresponding noise emissions. Enjoy your meal. Higher price level. We were aware of it. There is still room for maneuver when it comes to service (efficiency).

The Schützenhaus restaurant consists of two areas. The Hose with traditional cuisine and the garden restaurant with upscale cuisine. And both tasted good. The service and the ambience are very good and I can happily recommend the restaurant.

Had dinner at the Schützenhaus on February 28th. After friends of ours praised the Chateaubriand, this was clear in advance. As a starter, my wife had a mixed salad and I had the Nüssli-Trevisan. The wine that accompanied us was an old friend from Tuscany, which was of course much more expensive here, the Insoglio del Cinghiale IGT. The Chateaubriand also met our expectations and was very good. Fine sea salt is usually enough for me with the meat, but the sauce wasn't bad either. The service was very friendly and attentive. We felt very comfortable the whole evening. We will definitely come back.

Today we had another excellent meal in the garden hall, it was excellent! Unfortunately no pictures of dinner: hunger and anticipation were too great😉
