Very authentic! The food is prepared with traditional spices and is very well done. The service is very attentive and friendly. You can order aftican beer, they don't have Tej though. Overall a great experience!

The food was excellent, we had the 'sharing plate' for two with meat (chicken and egg). Pleasant heat, pleasant spice and definitely more than enough even though we are both actually good eaters. 2 more beers per person so a higher 'price range' is achieved. The prices themselves are absolutely justified, value for money is right and the menu is clear and balanced! The service was also extremely friendly and attentive (but not intrusive), which we really appreciated. We found the atmosphere simple and pleasant, but it could be made a little more charming. Long story short, I can only recommend the restaurant and I will definitely stop by again. Thanks!

We were happy to be guests with our two children. The food was really tasty and all the staff were super friendly. There was also a really nice response when our son dropped a glass.

Super delicious vegan, Eritrean food. The two of us ate the 6 side dishes on the Ingara (teff flatbread). We enjoyed the meal with an Ethiopian tea. We recommend.

The restaurant has a nice African decoration and the owner is a very warm hearted person. The menu is not big, which I consider an advantage since you cannot make any wrong decisions. The food was well presented and it was very tasteful. Especially the meat was of solid quality. We drank traditional tea and we got a free raki shot at the end.

Small and cozy restaurant, serving excellent Eritrean food. The main course was quite simple, good and a little spicy: meat, lentils, spinach and salad. Recommended if you want to try something new with few demands.

Authentic and delicious Eritrean food, exceptional hospitality and service. Classically presented dishes (along with some of the best Injera in the area); spices prepared in small batches and on-site. Frequent specials based on availability of local ingredients. Good vegetarian and vegan options.

There is so much more to this place than what it looks like (not that the place doesn't look nice). If the service is fine and friendly, the food was simply outstanding. A real dining experience that I will never forget. As a meat lover, the vegetarian dishes convinced me that I should give them more tries when possible... Simply so good!

FILFL – the traditional and warm family-run restaurant in District 3 is truly a wonderful flight into Eritrean gastronomy! The two of us chose the traditional ‘plate’ with injera (leavened flatbread made from teff flour) and vegetarian dishes as well as lamb (Kulwa Begih). In addition to the culinary experience, we also learned that “Injera is traditionally eaten in Eritrea and Ethiopia and is also used as food and cutlery. You simply tear off small pieces of the flatbread, grab a piece of the meat or vegetable side dish and bring it to your mouth. Quality of the food – experience – warmth – price/performance – SPLENDID! We will definitely come back – we will definitely come back!

Very friendly and attentive service Food excellent

Food was very good, but we actually wanted a platter with various meat and vegetarian dishes and that wasn't possible. Instead we received a platter with only 2 of 17 dishes. A bit disappointed for 26 francs, although the quality and taste was very good. Serivce nice, but a little unclear what we can order now.

The food was very good and the man serving us was very nice. Our meal ended up a bit more expensive because we got drinks, but you could easily spend 20 or less franks per person without drinks.

What a lovely place! It was our first time eating Eritrean food and I’m really glad we tried it! The restaurant is small and cozy, the staff is very friendly and helpful. We ordered a vegan plate for 2 people and every single part of it was delicious. Really recommend!

Fantastic restaurant!! Great food, beautifully presented, great taste, short wait, big portion for the money. Cavel looked after us the whole evening and was also the (co-)owner and our chef. He was super personable and really made an effort for us. We were also able to experience the traditional coffee ceremony, which impressed us very much. The restaurant was comfortably furnished and decorated. Top evening!

We had a traditional shared platter with both veggie and meat dishes. The food is delicious, and the service is also very good. The owner is so friendly and welcoming, he came to check on us a few times during the course of the meal and even game to give us s handshake snd introduce himself afterwards. Really well worth the visit! There was a little „coffee ceremony“ afterwards, where someone from the kitchen walked around with smoky coffee beans and the smoke filled the room. This left us all with a smoke taste in our mouths and smoky smell on our clothes and hair, which we didn’t enjoy very much…Other than that everything was perfect. Will surely come again, thank you!

I came in here at around 1 pm and the restaurant was empty - I could really enjoy my meal alone but I was surprised. The food is amazing and filling, the presentation is fun and a fully sensory experience. The staff was very friendly and I got my food really fast. I will definitely tell other people about this place :))

Very pleasant surprise in Zürich! We were looking for something different and we found it. And not only was the food delicious (we took the mix of 5 veggie options + 1 meat one) but also the service. From the moment we entered this small cozy restaurant we have been treated magnificently by our exquisite guests. Tipp well deserved, and we'll be there soon again

Just the best food we have ever had in Europe in last 3 years!! The taste was super amazing and the host was soooo nice. When dish came, he made us feel the aroma and it was heaven. Must try if you are in Zurich.

Food was ok, but we were charged for the vegetarian plate and two additional meat dishes instead of the normal meat plate. Very confusing. So it's way too expensive and I can't recommend it.

The food wasn't that bad, but the listing on the menu was very confusing, and the communication was absolutely unclear and misleading despite repeated questions. In the end we were charged 80.- instead of 40.- and no accommodation. Watch out!

We have eaten here quite a few times - it was always delicious and the staff was very friendly too. Right now I'm just here for coffee and took the "Eritrean coffee ceremony". Something you should also try! I usually love Italian coffee culture, but the Eritreans are at least on par (it's completely different though, see picture). There are also quite a few local Swiss regulars who stop by daily just for coffee and to talk. This restaurant is really a gem in Zurich.

My sister and I had a great time dinning at this fine restaurant. The service was great and the food was amazing. We look forward to visiting again next time we're in Zurich.

First and last time I ate Eritrean food. Basically a great experience and the staff was very nice too. When it comes to hygiene, people don't take it too seriously. Stains on the white tablecloth from the previous person and the next day the three of us all spent the whole day in the toilet, even though we ate vegetarian food. The most expensive thing was a liter of water at CHF 10.00. The food at Zurich prices with a very weak price/performance ratio. It was worth an experience but nothing more.

We ate at Filfl for dinner this week and were extremely impressed! We have enjoyed Eritrean food previously back home in Stamford, CT (Teff) and were excited to try Filfl when we were in Zurich. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful! Highly recommend!

The food is great, as is the service and the (advertised) prices. Unfortunately, there is cheating at the end of the calculation. We had the vegi platter for two (42.-), an Ethiopian tea (5.-) and an Ethiopian beer (5.50). That makes a total of 52.50. In the end I paid 67.42 by card without thinking too much. When I realized in front of the restaurant that something was wrong, I went back in and asked for the receipt (which I never received). There it was explained to me that we had received the mixed veggie (2x25.50) and two teas (2x5.-), which we had not ordered. In addition, the VAT is charged twice when paying by card: The card says "incl. VAT", but when entered into the tablet it is added on again (that's how it was shown to me), hence the strange final amount. With all 3 points I thought to myself “yeah, it’s hardly going to do anything”. Now realizing that we paid almost 15 euros too much pisses me off. Despite all possible misunderstandings, double charging of VAT is certainly not legal and should be avoided.

Authentic, very good Eritrean food. Here you still eat with your left hand ✋️. It's lively and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're on another continent for a short time. Highly recommended! It is very cheap in comparison. It's definitely worth it!

Nice atmosphere but very disappointing what I got to eat. I ordered the chicken dish “Zigni Derho” and received a plate of flatbread topped with some salad. In the middle of the plate then the sauce, 1 egg and 1 small piece of chicken... I was shocked at how little I got to eat. I've never seen anything like that in my life... what a disgrace! I was still so hungry afterwards... My brother ordered beef and he got a huge portion...how can that be!! I asked the waitress if they only serve 1 small piece of chicken at a time and then she went into the kitchen and the owner said that was the case... Unfortunately I can't recommend this restaurant...never order the chicken dish...otherwise the same thing that happened to me will happen to you.

The food is simply delicious. You eat with your hands. This idea alone makes it worth a visit. Dear Kafil, thank you very much for your warm service. We had been in Ethiopia for a few hours and really enjoyed it. See you next time!

My Dad was born and grew up in Eritrea so I used to have this type of cuisine already growing up. The food here was the best by far that I’ve had in a restaurant in a looong time. Best in Zurich for sure. All the dishes and sides were amazing and the amount of spice in the Zigni (still adjusted to us - as I have been to Asmara ;) was perfect. I don’t understand the bad reviews, kind of cruel for such small things. They are cash only - but that doesn’t take away from the food and that the prices are really great for Zurich. ❤️❤️ So I loved it 🤩

Food is fine (average Ethiopian food), but be aware that you get systematically overcharged - the owner finds all kinds of bizarre excuses why the prices on the bill are higher than on the menu. We will avoid this place in the future.

The food tastes good, but you better know what you have to order. Some things I did not like: 1. The staff speaks no English and terrible German 2. Many items from menu (meats and drinks) are not available. 3. If you order a shared Ethiopian platter with mixed items, you would struggle to understand what you are getting and what price you are paying because of point 1 & 2 4. NO credit/debit card accepted 5. The staff was very disrespectful and unprofessional to each other. For every mistake they kept blaming, finger pointing and arguing with each other. The body language and tone of the owner was a little intimidating although he meant no harm.

Restaurant is ok. Ethiopian / Eritrean specialties. The meat certainly wasn't the best quality but overall it tasted okay. Location is a bit hidden, tables right on the street but since it's a side street, hardly any cars drive past. Attention: Card payment not possible

The food was good. Not great. Another reviewer wrote that the owner spoke English well but I disagree. It was difficult to understand each other and I don't speak German. He also overcharged one of our entrees but fixed it once we pointed it out. Water, flat or fizzy, cost 4 and it's cash only.

Highly Recommended! Warm and attentive host with tasty and authentic cuisine. The ambience is more reminiscent of a home-style inn, but it is nonetheless a culinary experience.

Small, manageable restaurant, reception with incense sticks from the boss himself, who visits us again and again during the meal and introduces us to Eritrean eating habits. The menu can be put together individually from the menu and was very tasty. Good value for money. We will come back.

Service is so bad and the owner of the house is the cook and always prepared the food in his own way and when I tell him that I ordered differently and clearly he is completely arrogant when I answer back. I was happy to go there but the same problem 4 times I will never eat there again and I don't recommend going there because there are more other restaurants 🤝

Great food, nice place and nice people. Great value for the money in a very relaxed environment. The mixed plate was very abundant (you can ask for doggy bags) and tasty. The guy speaks english and some Italian. Authentic! A gifted shot of Zibib is a beautiful way to end the dinner. We will come back for sure
