Formidable Pelikan in St. Gallen

We were there for the first time and we were amazed. Super great experience and unique cuisine. The food was incredible and the service great!

Waited 40 minutes for a small salad and a small soup and paid 41 francs with a drink...

A tasty and special vegan restaurant. Mostly recommended!

Friendly staff, menu not necessarily my taste, but you can find something. But the prices - beyond good and bad. Before you go in, be sure to study the menu and, above all, the prices. There are also nice restaurants a few meters away - with reasonable prices.

I've been to the Pelikan many times - for lunch, dinner, coffee, dessert. The young owner is super nice and passionate. Food is exceptional, I am surprised every time. So creative. Everything vegan. As a French speaking Swiss, I can recommend the wine from my region served there.

If you want to hide from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. Very atmospheric. Sweets are delicious, not just sweet. The service is pleasant. Cozy, beautiful, stylish. There is a desire to come again!

Ate there for the third time today (this time Christmas dinner with the team) and I always find it excellent: excellent food (vegan - but definitely not the way you would imagine vegan food as a non-vegan), friendly, courteous service staff, pleasant, cozy , atmospheric ambience. Clearly, this restaurant is run with a lot of love and (human ;) passion. I would be happy to come back at any time, thank you very much!

Scam, tourist trap, the waitress walks around with a big binder but doesn't offer you a menu and there is no price displayed! Above all, go your way, a miserable bowl of chestnut soup 15.- and tea 8.50 what more can I say, the almond croissant 6.50 and hot chocolate 8.50, moreover with more water than milk, a real scandal . Only the presentation on the plate is correct. The toilets, I don't even mention it, instructions are not clear at all and not even a bin for your hand dryer, there is a note which indicates that you have to put it in the drawer, in German only, whereas it's is a tourist place! Never seen !

We ordered (2) soups which were delicious and beautifully presented... but 5 Fr. for tap water? Even considering Swiss prices - this is ridiculous. Ended up paying 50 Fr. for soup, bread and water. And, please find a new playlist. Loud, shouty post-punk isn't the ideal lunchtime soundtrack.

Yesterday Saturday we visited the city of St. Gallen from Thun. When we saw mulled wine advertised as we walked past, we of course went in and ordered 2. The mulled wine was very tasty. However, I didn't pay 14.5 francs per glass either in Thun or in Bern, where there is definitely home-made organic mulled wine.

We love the food & coffee and treat ourselfs to rhe salty waffels from time to time. It is in a higher price range but if one considers that everything is local and demeter and so on it is very fairly priced. The people seem very nice and it's a beautiful athmosphere. We'll come back, many many times ✨️

Good food. Premium ingredients. Ridiculously expensive even for Swiss standards. Should be illegal to charge 5 francs for tap water. At the end, I paid 32 for a wrap and water

Today I wandered around St. Gallen hungry. My stomach had already taken control of my body. It was already so advanced that all the alarm signals that panicked through the nerve cells of both amygdala at the same time (triggered by the "100% Plant Based" warning sign in front of the restaurant) didn't reach my legs. And so I sat down, ordered a “gourmet” waffle and ate it. My brain has never been more grateful to my stomach than it is today. The dish was beautiful to look at but most of all it was super tasty. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating (yes, even after my treacherous tongue unmistakably revealed me to be from Zurich) and so I can only recommend the Formidable Pelikan and envy all St. Gallen residents who can drop by here spontaneously. So take advantage of this opportunity given to you! In the meantime, I'm using the modest power of my gray cells and looking for an excuse to be able to go to St. Gallen again. Just to enjoy the food and the beautiful atmosphere here.

Great food, very friendly service and great atmosphere. The dishes and decoration are very loving and individual. Very cozy outside in summer - even non-vegans are impressed :)

Apart from the immoral prices. Offering a gender-neutral toilet with a urinal is almost sick. Imagine a lady or even a child opens the door of the toilet and has to watch a man at the urinal (which is right next to it). Very uncomfortable for everyone. If you feel the need to offer something so immoral, you should simply offer a lockable door for the entire toilet. And not both for use at the same time.

Attention, please ask for the card BEFORE and study the PRICES!!! We had unsuspectingly ordered two pieces of cake and two coffees... assuming the local prices from the surrounding cafes in the old town... and couldn't believe our eyes when a bill came for a whopping Fr. 37.-!!!. .. A (small) piece of cake cost an impressive Fr. 11.50, the latte macchiato Fr. 8.50...The Cafe Creme, which was also ordered, was comparatively almost a moderate price at Fr. 5.50... As a local, such prices are familiar to me never met our city! I can't even imagine how shocked unsuspecting tourists are at such prices... There are no prices written on the cake display case (why?...) and the link to the menu for food doesn't work on the website via the QR code... (coincidence?...). You won't find a drinks menu on the website. The cafe takes great pride in “ethics” on its website... We think fair prices and, above all, transparency are essential! So, be sure to ask for prices beforehand and think twice about whether you want to pay such exorbitant prices.... The cake was delicious, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was nice.

Everything was great 👌 we really enjoyed it. The service was very good and you could tell the owners put their heart and soul into it. The food was excellent, it was all organic and almost all homemade. I think the slightly higher price is also appropriate. I would definitely recommend!!

I would like to give more than 5 stars. We ate here on our second visit after our civil wedding and what can I say. Our every wish was met. The staff took excellent care of us and the food was really great too. The background music also fit in nicely. I've read a lot of criticism about the prices in other reviews. But if you consider everything that is made in-house and in what quality (not mass production), I think the prices are justified. Plus, you can't get vegan food that tastes so good anywhere. Even the non-vegans enjoyed the food 100%. We say thank you very much, we will come back.

A very great, simple atmosphere, with a lot of charm, underlined by very tasty food and a service that anticipates your every wish

While we were happy about the large selection (in general and on the Etagére deluxe), we struggled with the quantity and not having to leave any leftover food behind. We spent around two hours in the restaurant before our eyes widened at the checkout: we were charged around 120 francs for brunch for two and a cappuccino each. When we asked, we were told that the etagére would be charged per person and that was why the price would be so high. On the one hand, I'm overwhelmed and on the other hand, I'm disappointed: the price for brunch seems way too high to me (especially since not everything could be eaten in terms of quantity) and the information on the menu "from 2 people" is not meaningful (enough), either the prices are different for several consumers. I understand this statement as "two people will leave the restaurant with full bellies; it is better to have three people sharing the dish." Nowhere was it indicated that the prices are per person, i.e. CHF 52 p/p. The operator did not respond to my email and the card was not adjusted. It's a shame if you get the impression that the customer's opinion doesn't count!

An all-round wonderful experience, fine food, very friendly staff, everything with a lot of heart.

Came as a non-vegan to enjoy a good, wholesome lunch and was very happy with the high quality, variety of flavors and mega-friendly service. We had a full menu with starter, salad, soup, main course and dessert. I never missed meat or dairy products. I can only warmly recommend this restaurant to every non-vegan for new enjoyment and positive experiences.

I'm not vegan, but the vegan brunch on sunday was a joy nevertheless. Good food, great selection of additonal beverages and nice service with an eye for detail. Compliments to the Chef!

The food was great, but unfortunately one of the restaurants that you leave hungry (small portions despite the hefty prices - CHF 8.50 for a scoop of ice cream!). Lovingly furnished, feel-good atmosphere. The service, the flagship of every restaurant, was friendly but very slow (30 minutes until she took the order/drinks and that with only four tables occupied, including ours). Unfortunately, no idea about wine, no idea what types of ice cream are on offer - you should at least know your own range. At this price range, well-trained, competent staff are expected. Conclusion: Great food, price/performance room for improvement. We won't come a second time.

A formidable surprise, met by chance... and it was love at first sight! Everything perfect. Highly recommended for those who eat and drink vegan.

This is a great vegan restaurant, with the focus on processing all the ingredients themselves. They do not use half ready products and everything we tried was delicious 😍 Everybody is very friendly and patient, we felt like home. In case you're a carnivore (like me) and don't know all the ingredients they will gladly explain them to you 😊. Definitely ask for seitan if you don't know what that is (I didn't 😋)

The service of the vermicelle was good. Trying something new and then 100% natural etc. I think it's good! But I missed that certain ambience.

A really cute cafe with cake that is really formidable. The atmosphere is very cozy and a little bit alternative. The almond croissant and chocolate cake were wonderful. There are also some gluten-free options and several milk alternatives.

The furnishings and decoration are a bit mixed together. Food was good, but nothing special that you would definitely have to eat again. The prices are extremely high, which cannot be justified. Ate and drank something small and almost 60Fr. paid. A small piece of cake costs more than 10 francs.

Absolutely recommended! From the friendly and always smiling service to the mega delicious food from a very authentic chef who willingly talked about the preparation of various dishes. High praise, we enjoyed it very much!

Super delicious waffle but the service was a huge disappointment! We order 4 drinks (coffees) and 2 waffles. The coffee came pretty much quickly but the waffle after half an hour waiting we asked what happened to the waffles and has came yet, and another waiter told us that the waiter that we ordered had gone for a break and didn't let them know about it!!! Huge disappointment for just an amazing waffle!

Oh boy, definitely not the right place. The prices there are pretty high by St. Gallen standards. I took a cappuccino, and got the strangest thing. I am aware that it is not easy to prepare foam from non-cow's milk, but here it just failed. I felt like I was drinking coffee with bubbles on top. The staff was friendly, but quite slow.

Staff slow and uninterested, prices unbelievably high, long waiting, kombucha literally disgusting, homemade kalter Tee is simple water with sugar, coffee very bad…

We are absolutely thrilled. Went there spontaneously, my non-vegan friend and I agreed that we had rarely eaten so well! And it's vegan, organic (demeter) and 90 percent homemade! The restaurant is cute and the service is really warm, friendly, you can tell that everything here is offered and prepared with passion! Absolutely recommended!

Good location in the middle of the city. Nicely decorated. However, prices are beyond good and evil CHF 11.50 for a piece of cake (small) is already steep. Unfortunately, in front of the piece of cake, the price tag for the piece of cake was CHF 6.50 - I assume that was accidental.

The food is super delicious, especially the homemade Saitan, but also the home-fermented vegetables from the Demeter farm. Be sure to try the ice cream!

After being a guest here for the third time within a month, I can give a review with a clear conscience. The food is incredibly good and comes beautifully prepared from the kitchen to the table. (See my unedited photos). Even if you “just” want to come over for coffee and cake, you’ll get your money’s worth. On the third visit we also received supplements and enjoyed them to the fullest. In my opinion, the wine list could be expanded a bit, for example with vegan wines from Familia Parra or Giol, so that the aperitif after work on the Pelikan's terrace is also formidable. In summary: If you appreciate good food, you've come to the right place. I'm definitely going there again.

Incredibly bad tourist trap Never again

Once and again. The different appetizers are great. Everything I ate with pleasure was delicious and spicy in taste. I would love to come back. For the white wine I was impressed by the Sauvignon Blanc and for the red wine by the Regent.

Super central, great ambience, the best value for money meal we have had in St Gallen so far. We loved the Gourmet waffle and the dish of the day. The waitress was lovely and very helpful - thank you for looking after us!

Had brunch for the first time today. Very very tasty. Everything purely plant-based. Large selection. Value sustainability. All fresh and regional products. 47.- francs seems like a lot at first, but it's totally ok because all drinks are included. Be sure to push yourself to be purely plant-based. E.g. on vegallen.ch or something like that One point is deducted for the reservation, which was difficult 😅 I couldn't go online and you couldn't find a phone number to click on. Luckily it worked out after all. We will be back.
