Very nice restaurant in the center of Basel, right near the town hall (the red building). Welcoming atmosphere, quite warm temperature inside the place (for a t-shirt) even though it was raining outside. We tasted the famous classic cordon bleu with cheese and ham, very good, generous portion and super filling. Friendly and helpful staff, The service was fast and precise. If you are in Basel it is definitely worth a stop here :) We paid 112 CHF for the cordon bleu and dessert with beer and water. See you next time 💪🏻😎

The meal was excellent. We had cordon bleu with truffles (2x) + 1x classic with the homemade spaetzli. We can only recommend it. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. We made reservations at 8:15 p.m. and showed up on time. We were then told that our table was not yet free and we had to wait “outside”. After 15 minutes our table became available. It was given to us i. In the meantime, we were neither offered a drink nor received an apology for the waiting time. When we were at our table we received the menu very quickly. However, we had to wait a long time before we could order something (drinks). The long wait continued throughout the evening and didn't improve. Conclusion: Great food! Service flop (can be improved)!

Very nice staff, nice atmosphere and all dishes can be gluten-free! That convinced us. The GF Cordon Bleus were super tasty and so was the huge Rösti! The vegetable bouquet, on the other hand, was more expensive than the Rösti and was probably normal frozen vegetables, small bowl, nothing special. Then choose another side dish. But we would love to come back :)

After the Basel Marathon, I refreshed myself with colleagues in this restaurant/brewery in the center of Basel. The food is OK, but the beer is very good... in short, as expected! Prices are very high, but absolutely in line with prices in this area. I ate a Cordon Bleu, which should be the city's specialty, filled with pâté.

If you are looking for "Cordon-Bleu" this is definitely one of the Hotspots in Basel. Friendly Staff, comfortable atmosphere, and great food. Price is reasonable considering it is in the heart of Basel. Be sure to call in advance as they are often fully booked.

Drinking —> ordering open wine is a catastrophe. They bring the wine already decanted and you don't know if it's the wine you ordered. You don't show the bottle of wine. A no go. Schnitzel thin meat prepared with certainly too much dough and greasy. Fries also too greasy

I am really upset to writting this. I entered and they did not wellcomed me. The waitress was so rude (Clara or something I couldnt understand) (she has a colorfull hair and piercng). I didnt have a reservation and I asked her , she was so rude. We came here far away and we walked nearly 20 minutes. I asked how can I reservation and she didnt say anything. She said today you cant come, I said I can be come tomorrıw and she gave me a card and sent me. After I asked her name she was so kind and I am really angry to saw this. What a world…. Anyway, I was really wondered here and it was disapointted.

The Gifthüttli is special because it is a traditional restaurant in Basel. The Gifthüttli is something special. The service was very attentive and they served us very professionally, even though the restaurant was full. The service was really very good. The wine list has a good price/performance ratio including the champagne. In general, the price/performance ratio overall is not excessive for the quality of the food. There were four of us and we had the double veal cordon bleu flambéed. The Cordon Bleu is a specialty of the Gifthüttli and is available in many variations. The Cordon Bleu flambéed can only be ordered for 2 people or more and is flambéed at the table. With this Cordon Bleu double, which is 300 grams per person, it makes no sense to order a starter as it is very filling so that you still have room for the fine desserts. We actually wanted to eat upstairs in the Weinstübli, but unfortunately it was closed, so we got a good round table by the tiled stove. The only downer for us was that the upstairs was closed and the downstairs was very rustic and it was a bit cramped and completely full, but still good. Be sure to reserve in advance as it is a very busy restaurant.

A restaurant recommended by a friend for its excellent cuisine. The service is continuous, which is super nice. The decor is really cool, traditional, all in wood. There are quite a few tables but there is still space between them. On the other hand it resonates a little, in a full room it must be quite intense in terms of sound, but it gives a very lively atmosphere. The service is smiling. The arrival of dishes is a bit long for a meal past the rush but it's still reasonable. On the other hand, the waiters are up to no good with the dishes at the bar, it's causing a lot of noise, sensitive ears and migraine sufferers stay away. In terms of cuisine... We'll start with the painful part, we're in Switzerland, the prices are adapted to Switzerland. I would even say that the quality/price ratio is very good having seen other even scarier menus. For cordon bleu (the specialty) count at least 32 euros (the establishments do not take issue with the exchange rate, 1 euro = 1 Swiss franc) WITHOUT support. Side dishes start at 7.5 or 8 euros. So, roughly, 40 euros per dish. Beer if you want a pint, it's 8 mini That's it for the prices For what it represents on the plate, even if it remains painful for the French, it is very good and very generous. The cordon bleus are massive, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, well seasoned. The fries are also well served and seasoned (which is far too rare for fries!) We emerge from the sated and ready to face the cold, the snow and the crowds. In my opinion, this is an address to remember!

The food was excellent... but had to pay for 25 portions (Gordonbleus) (we had reserved for 25) even though we were only 21 people due to being unavailable... So 21 people will avoid this restaurant in the future. It's a shame, we thought the hospitality industry had learned something during the difficult times.

Excellent soup of the day. French fries too. The vegetables were only boiled and a little bland. We were a group of 20 people who all ate cordonbleu and despite this they charged us 4.50 each for carafes of water. We had already given our orders the days before, but they served the tables next to us before us. We waited 1.40 hour before the first one. Having to return to Ticino by bus we were an hour behind schedule.

Basically a nice, rustic Basel restaurant with charm. A regular pub for many carnival enthusiasts in Basel. The places or Tables are a bit narrow and you end up bumping into each other as you walk through them. Most of the staff are very friendly, but the attention is often lacking, so that when ordering drinks or bread, for example, you have to wait until the food is almost over. The food is good. But the prices are absolutely insane! A well-known “schnitzel with fries” costs CHF 37.50.- + 8.- for the handful of fries!! (and there's no small salad or anything) Therefore, it must be clearly stated that the price level here is extremely high for a restaurant with a “bourgeois standard”. In summer or in "warm" weather, you can also sit comfortably outside. It's definitely worth a visit. Maybe Call/reserve in advance as there are not too many places available.

I had been searching for this meal type and Gifhüttli kept coming up. I think there are probably several restaurants just like this, but this one felt special. We were seated inside and the atmosphere was fantastic. The wait staff worked really hard, moved really fast, and carried a big smile. They seemed like a tight-knit team and it carried over into the service. I like taking photos of “half-eaten pretty” so that’s what you get. I had the chorizo cordon bleu. I think next time I will try the classic because my buddy couldn’t shut up about his. Mine was very tasty, the chorizo is a bit more in pepperoni form, as an fyi. Potatoes gratin were the best I’ve had, this is an honest statement from my perspective. The chocolate fondant was incredible. Seriously, I almost wanted to get a second. So for sure five stars. If I visit Basel again, I will absolutely reserve for another dinner here

We decided to have dinner there last month, without booking in advance. It was a nicely warm evening (though with the risk of rain showers), and we very much wanted to sit on the terrace. The only table the waiter could offer us, however, was not covered by the awning, and less than 10 minutes into our stay, the first drops started to fall. However, the waiter swiftly informed us of another (covered) table that had just been vacated, and proceeded to relocate us there, so we were safe from the rain for the rest of the evening. Very good and attentive service, and I loved the food. I ordered the Classic Gordon Bleu, but there are other interesting Gordon Bleu options as well. As it seems a popular place (and I can obviously see why!), I would probably recommend to book in advance, especially when wanting to sit on the terrace, to avoid disappointment, as not everyone may be as lucky as us with the timing.

First restaurant during my stay in Basel. Went to it because I saw that got many good reviews and one website even mentioned it having one of the 10 best cordon bleus in the world so I had to check it out. I was certainly not disappointed at all with my cordon bleu and rösti. They were large and tasted very good. The place can get very loud quickly but it got a traditional cozy atmosphere.

Excellent! The cordon bleu are sensational - they can also be gluten-free, which is rare. The menu is deliberately kept slim so that all dishes are of very good quality. The service is attentive and courteous. We'll definitely be back!

A Basel institution. The food is solid and very good, the service is very personable in a suitably down-to-earth manner and makes you feel spontaneously at ease. The rustic dining room completes the package. As a German, you obviously have to overcome your gasp at the prices, but you're in Switzerland... But it's worth it, because while in Germany people usually stuff pressed molded ham and cheap processed cheese into a schnitzel under the title of the "blue ribbon", here it is possible to see the actual idea of Cordon Bleu as a taste triad of decent quality veal, good ham and a cheese that actually contributes its own aroma. Even the more adventurous guest has the opportunity to choose from the partly surprisingly innovative versions of the Swiss specialty that are also offered.

Very nice bar in Basel, a few minutes walk from the train station, good service, good food, nice mood! Better book a table before going though!

Restaurant near the center of Basel, small and welcoming. The owner is very kind and speaks a little Italian. We tasted the Fondue which was a pleasure. Prices are in line with Switzerland But if you're in Basel it's worth trying their signature dish 😎
