Hirschen in Zürich

The ratings here are too low because they date back to the times of the previous landlord. I think that's a shame. I'm excited about today's team. Cozy but also stylish, focused on the essentials, very good food and a very nice team. I really enjoy going there on a regular basis. Or as one of my friends said "I haven't tried the whole menu yet". I'm also looking forward to summer outside in the garden.

Food was excellent as always. Unfortunately, our waitress seemed extremely disinterested and annoyed. Accordingly, it seemed to us as if we were not valued as guests. As soon as we sat down and received our drinks and menu, he came to the table and wanted to take the order. But it wasn't even 2 minutes. We asked for more time and were given just under 3 minutes until he came back. So we ordered. He took the cards including the wine list without asking if we would like some wine. A short time later the starters arrived. Delicious as always, but some of my salad was brown. Main courses also came in a timely manner. We had to point out that we were out of water and would still like a new bottle. In my food I found something strangely black and oblong, which I thought was a thread. He saw it from halfway across the room and just said, "It's parsley." No understanding, nothing. At the next table I didn't hear a lady trying to order a lunch menu. The waiter's answer: "If you read correctly, you would have seen that this is our lunch menu." Sorry, but that doesn't work at all Gratitude was also missing when paying. It's a shame that we had to go through this experience today

Really nice restaurant that is enjoyed by the locals so you know it has to be good! Food was really good and made fresh to order. Service was top notch, even the owner/chef stopped at the table to greet us.

Long time no see. The last time I was in Hirschen was probably about 35 years ago. Looks better today and I'll be happy to come back.

I visited this restaurant as part of the Schwamendingen men's team because we always go there for a drink after gymnastics. The staff was friendly and otherwise I think this is a typical neighborhood restaurant. In summer you can sit outside. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food on offer or its quality.

Hello Hirschen Schwamendingen? We were really ripped off last night, that's not a situation! Ate 11 portions of fondue, 17 portions of 35 each - paid for! That's not hospitality, the customer isn't king there. Rather, it is viewed and treated as something different, that's how we felt.....The Hirschen Schwamendingen, no more attempts for us guests.. never come there again. We are all very disappointed with the deer's appearance yesterday! Yesterday evening, visit there. The innkeeper wouldn't let us talk or negotiate with him and had zero understanding or goodwill for our situation, the reservation, or our concerns! Because fewer of us arrived than expected. He insists on his situation, there is no accommodation from the deer host. Did he just have the daily sales in his head yesterday? The innkeeper said this afterwards when I was there again and he and his staff were all eating fondue comfortably. That he could have charged even more? In other words, the set table, the unneeded cutlery that we didn't use. Is that still normal? Did he really only have the current daily sales in mind yesterday or something else? He had the perception that we were in the wrong and his Expenses relating to the reservation are justified and everything would have to be paid for normally and included! Is that still normal? We as guests last night definitely found this to be a bit arrogant on his part and very unreasonable. I also asked myself the question when all the staff and the host ate fondue afterwards? Didn't I just pay a bit too much here in the Hirschen?! "The most expensive fondue of my life"....and now others were eating fondue on our account? Were we sponsors? I can be kidding myself... By the way, simple, decent and, above all, honest people live in Schwamendingen. But never forget them! ... and like to eat and drink, they want to be treated that way by all of us here in Schwamendingen, with a lot of appreciation and respect.... Huge disappointment! A month before the date, we made reservations for a group (more than 30 people). We wanted to say goodbye to my late mother with the people over an aperitif and drinks. Details have already been discussed with the owner and the appointment has been set. Weeks later we were informed that another group had now taken our place. With the justification “the other group is more important to us”. Rarely have I experienced such absolute impudence! I really can't recommend this place to anyone. I will never support such behavior by visiting them again.

I am absolutely disappointed with the experience we had. About 3 weeks ago we made a reservation for a funeral meal in the garden under the chestnut tree on August 26th, 2023. Our event was particularly important and we had great expectations of this place. Unfortunately, our hopes were completely dashed. First of all, I would like to emphasize the importance of having an appropriate place for a funeral meal. The garden under the chestnut tree seemed to be the perfect place to share our memories in peace and harmony. That's why we were shocked when we found out that the reserved space had been released to another group (statement from the boss: "The other group is more important"). They simply wanted to place us in a different location (in front of the fountain, directly on the main street). What an unprofessional approach! One would have expected such a sensitive matter to be treated with more consideration and respect. The way this situation was handled was not only inappropriate, but also extremely disrespectful. Overall, I can only describe the way this reservation was handled as completely unprofessional and inconsiderate. It is unfortunate that we had to go through such a disappointing experience during an already difficult moment. I can only strongly advise against visiting this place as there seems to be no consideration whatsoever for the guests' needs and feelings.

Vegetarian daily menus not every day. 2. The beautiful garden isn't so much use if no one stops by sporadically after 2 p.m. to see if you want to have a drink...

We sat outside in the garden which is very nice under big trees. Only downside is the noise of the nearby road. The tables got a white table cloth. Service was fantastic and the food was great as well. Price wise it's not cheap but not overly expensive either. Will definitely go back.

We were in the Rest. Hirschen on July 1st, towards the evening, based on a newspaper article in the Tages Anzeiger. Since it was a little cooler, we sat inside (also has a pretty garden) in the modern but atmospheric restaurant and received an extremely friendly welcome and service. We both decided on a cordon bleu, classic with ham and Appenzeller cheese from pork. It was one of the best cordon bleu we've ever had, generously filled with cheese and prepared perfectly, exactly to the point. The Pinot Noir Cuvée from Doubt went perfectly with this. For dessert there was a “Caramelköpfli”... Gladly again…

Food and service was top. The fish dumplings are great. Service was very entertaining and professional Would love to come back.

Wednesday May 31, 2023: The large hall on the upper floor with around 55 pre-registered people quite overwhelmed the service staff... it's a shame, otherwise it was a very nice get-together.

It was good for dinner, our party guests were satisfied.

A great restaurant, in the middle of the city, with a garden and decent prices.

Felt like in home, great dinner and beer, everyone was smiling and looking forward to help, would highly reccomend!

Yesterday I personally reserved a table for lunch today (February 14th, 2023) and wanted a special menu (with wine etc.) for my birthday. The (apparent) boss explained to me when I arrived that the res. Table would be occupied (which turned out not to be true). Service and food was good, of course I'm disappointed. After paying (also a good price) no one will say "goodbye" or "thank you" or anything similar - unfortunately the managing director thinks... - unfortunately they will have to avoid the restaurant. -- am disappointed.

The inn is newly launched after various renovation work. The Entercôte according to the house recipe is an absolute hit 👍

We spontaneously spent a cozy evening with dinner here. The atmosphere is classically cozy. The food selection was good (classic bourgeois Swiss cuisine with a few innovative exceptions) and I was happy about the vegetarian alternative to Züri-Geschnetzelte (made from spent grains, tastes great). My husband had a Wiener schnitzel, which was also great (with bubbles, crispy, thin), and tasted solid. We live nearby and always like to stop by this restaurant, which is part of Schwamendinger's "village center".

Very fine cuisine, I eat there once a month and it's really great with a lot of taste, good atmosphere and great service.

The RiceCasimir wasn't actually one. Rice was a bit watery. The curry sauce was passed past the curry. Zero curry taste. All in all ok but no reason to order again. The service, on the other hand, was friendly, polite... Bravo! The only reason to try again.

We ate an excellent Zürcher Geschnezelt and drank an excellent wine (Orma). The service was perfect. One star less for the Environment only for some ugly decorative elements (which I recommend removing), but really just a couple of little things, nothing special. Tables set to perfection, tablecloths and crockery impeccable. We will be back!

Service top, food flop! The fries were very greasy and soggy. The cordon bleu was not edible, the breadcrumb coating was really terrible. We felt sick the next day. Vegetables were too salty. Wine was good. Price too expensive for the quality - it's a shame we won't be back.

Service, prices are ok. However, the chef still has room for improvement when it comes to the au gratin Rösti with fried egg. But since the restaurant has a good menu and the lunch menu is also very good, I still have a good choice on my next visit

Food good, huge cordon bleu. Nice new interior, nice service. But: veal liver with rösti miniature I'm compared to the cordon bleu, the reserved table was not ready, no syrup for children. Very expensive in price. Side dish costs separately - that's what I call farmer's catch.

The Hirschen has received a well-deserved revival with a new, great host. Cozy atmosphere, courteous service and probably one of the best Cordon Bleus in the city :)

We are amazed at how beautifully the deer has been gently rebuilt!!! The food is also excellent again! We will be back!

This evening we were guests of the new innkeepers after a good two years of “abstinence from deer”. Excellent service and sensational, fresh cuisine that really puts you in a good mood - no comparison to its predecessor. The new deer is a huge addition to Schwamendingen! We wish the new landlord much success - he will certainly see us in his restaurant more often - BRAVO!

A monthly hit that has it all. Tender veal slices in a wonderful morel cream sauce, excellently seasoned with homemade spaetzli and vegetables. Giorgio, you really succeeded. I can only recommend it. Thank you very much for this culinary delight.
