Hochwacht in Meilen

Waited 40 minutes for a salad starter even though the restaurant was almost empty. Main course arrived in 2 minutes. after starter. Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm. Service was unfriendly and inattentive. Unfortunately, the restaurant is no longer recommended for eating.

Good starting point for hikes on the Pfannenstiel, Meilener Tobel, Küssnachter Tobel etc. Bus runs from Meilen to Vordere Pfannenstiel

Very nicely located restaurant at one of Zurich's weekend pilgrimage sites...unfortunately this has been shamelessly exploited by the restaurant's operators for years, because the quality of the food and the service leave a lot to be desired...this is definitely needed here. a new gastronomic concept...

It's our favorite place near Lake Zürich. The view from up there is fantastic, both towards Lake Zürich and towards the Greifensee. We felt very comfortable in the restaurant, which has a very casual and familiar atmosphere. The food is very good with several options of typical Swiss dishes. The waiters and waitresses are very nice and friendly. The place also has a beautiful lawn to lie on on sunny days, and there is a small enclosure with small farm animals. There is also the observation tower at Pfannenstiel, the highest mountain in the region.

The lady who served was extremely attentive and friendly. We had to wait exactly 40 minutes for the salad, which was served with a fine sauce. The lady who was supposed to serve kept apologizing. We had to wait another 15 minutes for the food afterwards. That's too long, even though the food was impeccable, with the exception of my friend's cold fries. However, the burnt cream had little balls in it, which weren't so good. The best thing was the view, but we probably won't get there again.

Catastrophe...that's a long time to describe my impressions. We wanted to eat and drink something small and went to the restaurant upstairs. There was already a permanent waiter in front of the entrance who was amused by the coming guests.. "They can't find space anyway, everything is full... ha ha." Of course it was full, but there was still room for two people everywhere. We waited probably 5 minutes (nobody cared) when the fat man assigned us a seat. We were already sitting when suddenly a screaming waitress came up to us..."there's a reservation, that's not possible...you can sit at the front." There were already 2 people sitting at the table, but the dirt on the table was definitely gone Guests who had long since left. The two of them just wanted to pay, the fat man had time for that, but asked what we would like...none. We probably waited another few minutes, but no one cared. So we went again. We'll never go there again...so unfriendly!!!!

Wonderful location. Food is okay. Service is not great. Worth a stop after a hike in the vicinity for the scenery.

This inn has a great view of the mountains. The service was just incredibly rude and rude. Even the family at the next table said that's what it apparently felt like when you had to go into the military.

The restaurant offers hearty cuisine and the service is also somewhat rustic. My Valais Rösti was good and enough. I was walking on the mountain on a wonderful Sunday. As expected, there were a lot of people and cars there. Many many. Nevertheless, I dared to go into the restaurant at 11:45 and asked for a seat. Right at the entrance, opposite the buffet, there are two round tables and I was allowed to sit there. Of course all the tables were reserved. Now I had an hour with the best view to marvel at the arriving guests and the process of service. As mentioned, the service is a bit boyish, but now I know why: with the guests behaving like that! Many people simply barged in without greeting them and immediately sat down at a reserved table (with a reservation sign). The employees had to send them away again. Others simply didn't want to believe that everything was reserved and insisted: "But back there everything is still free..." But the winner was a group of 10 (!) people who ALL stood in front of the buffet and actually demanded a table. entrance, toilet; Service, everything blocked... One person would have been enough to get the rejection. That's why I understand the behavior of the staff to a good extent. They experience this every day. Nevertheless, with a smile and a little more friendliness, both sides could defuse the situation significantly.

TERRIBLE!! They are lucky to have their location. Everything else is bad news. Food is less than bad, service is slow and unfriendly and prices are ridiculous!!! This is a typical restaurant who has 'made it' because of the location and stupid people will pay any price for a drink/fast food because they can see the mountains.....omg humans!

Local at the top of the mountain with a panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding mountains, breathtaking panorama. There is the possibility of reaching the site with bile and trekking routes. Space for car parking and very large and welcoming internal rooms with an external terrace dedicated to self-service and a panoramic dehor. We ate with 11 people (7 adults and 4 children). The food is really good and with attention to culinary details with excellent plating. However, the times were very long with an efficient service that always chased requests with sometimes considerable eternal waiting. I recommend it but if you are not in a hurry!!!

It couldn't get any worse! This “Spunten” needs to be closed because it has nothing to do with a restaurant! You go to today's Hochwacht once and never again.

We used to go here a lot when we lived close by, but we thought we would pop in while walking our dog in the area, nothing has changed, food is consistent and the service is still amazing, if you are in the area definitely worth a visit

Great location. Right in the middle of the forest with the beautiful view of Maur's lake. The food was not disappointing. They have a playground for the kids in front of the restaurant. Good place for a family with kids.

The food is quite good, but the service is usually quite stressful. The location is unbeatable with great views.

I really had the impression we were disturbing the restaurant. Everything's OK, I won't bother you anymore.

The food is basically only a long time until you can order or until you have the food. A waiter Motze when we wanted to correct a tip at the card device and wasn't friendly either. (Had a bad day?) In terms of price, I find it rather expensive for what you get.

What do you want? Food or drink? This is how you are greeted at Hochwacht on Sunday. Friendly, right? If you drink, cyclists are sometimes directed to the kiosk, which is located below the restaurant. If I want to eat at a kiosk, I can just as easily buy a drink or a coffee at a gas station. We were able to have a leisurely coffee somewhere else where we cyclists were welcome. Keep it up Hochwacht Pfannenstiel. I will definitely never come back.

I can turn to L.R. just connect. Service reception catastrophic! No friendly “Hello” or “Good day” just what do you want? Eating or drinking. Even though the restaurant was pretty empty, we weren't the only ones able to have a drink. You were directed to the place further down, on a bench on the lawn. I don't think I'll ever consume anything here...

Terrible service, very rude approach towards kids and adults. Overpriced for the fast food they offer, but the real issue is the attitude problem of the waiters.

The absolute worst dining experience I’ve had since I moved to Switzerland. It took 15 minutes for us to get the menus, it took 90 minutes for food to arrive. When I asked for the check, the waiter made a hand gesture, I believe suggesting that it is not his job. When we asked another waiter, he didn’t realize that I was the person sitting at the table, he ran after my wife (who was at her wit’s end at this point) suggesting that she didn’t pay (while I was literally standing by the table to pay). It was a huge relief to finally leave. Absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

Very nice service and the meat of the Zurich Geschnetzeltes was bread and butter and the Rösti was golden brown as it should be.

Small but nice. I'd love to come back. Enough parking spaces to reach by car. And a great view.

Beautiful excursion restaurant, with a wonderful view. Very fine food and very friendly staff and a beautiful outside terrace with an incredibly beautiful view.

We waited 1h15 for 4 lunch menus (burgers) and then, after asking several times, we were told that our order had been forgotten in the kitchen! We then had to leave without eating because we had to work in the afternoon. It would have been a birthday dinner. It's a shame, we are very disappointed!

The view from up here down to Greifen or Lake Zurich is wonderfully beautiful. The restaurant invites you to sit comfortably on the sun terrace. Healthy food is offered at reasonable prices. For example, a veal Viennese schnitzel with fries is available for CHF 42.50. What comes next for this price is rather weak. Things could definitely be done better up here.

What a disappointment! We were really looking forward to a delicious meal during our hike. We got there at around 4 p.m. The note “continuous kitchen” is clearly visible at the entrance! When we were sitting and mentioned to the waitress that we wanted to eat, we should have been more attentive to her reaction and realized that ordering food in the afternoon wasn't a good idea after all. Everything is sold as fresh (from the morels in the sauce with the veal steak to the wild mushrooms for the hunter's rösti). Sorry, but it all tastes like convenience food!! And not even cooked correctly. The majority of the Rösti were dry and burnt, the mushrooms had no taste, the so-called cognac sauce might have been suitable in a canteen. And this at an exorbitant price!! The cordon bleu had hardly any veal (!!!) simply stuffed with cheap compound model ham. CHF 42.-! When we talked to the service manager, we found out that there is NO cook between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. (!), so everything is warmed up somehow... Next time we'll walk a little further to get some supplies.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hochwacht restaurant in Männedorf and I must say that it was a pleasant gastronomic experience. The restaurant is located in a picturesque setting with breathtaking views of Lake Zurich and the surrounding landscape, which makes the atmosphere special right from the start. The ambience at Hochwacht is elegant and cozy, with tasteful decoration and a touch of tradition. The friendly and attentive staff gave us a warm welcome and made sure we felt well looked after throughout the evening. The menu offered an interesting selection of dishes, including local Swiss specialties and international delicacies. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation of the dishes were overall very good. I was particularly impressed by the selection of fresh seafood, which was a real treat for the palate. The presentation of the dishes was attractive and the portions were sufficient, so we left the evening satisfied. The menu prices were reasonable for the quality offered and the ambience of the restaurant. I still have one small suggestion for improvement: the waiting time between courses could be shortened slightly to make the culinary experience even more pleasant. Overall, my visit to the Hochwacht restaurant was a positive experience. I would happily recommend it for a romantic dinner for two or for special occasions with friends and family. The combination of first-class food, charming ambience and breathtaking views makes Restaurant Hochwacht a place you'll be happy to visit again.

They don't have a cook. I ordered a veal cordon bleu: not edible because it was industrial! Not even the french fries are good...a shame. My partner ordered a Jäger Röschti: industrial Röschti burnt with canned mushrooms! Such ‘restaurants’ shouldn’t exist.

After 2 years, we went back to the restaurant for a coffee on Saturday at 6 p.m. and it was empty, but we still had to sit at the counter and the service was a bit haphazard... well, that's how you can drive away guests.

The location is really beautiful but the restaurant is very disappointing. The lady who served us was relatively friendly, but the older gentleman who gave us the seat was so rude and stroppy that we immediately felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. The prices are extremely high for what you get and what you get is... well, interesting. We chose the seasonal dish wild garlic cheese spaetzle and got the following (see photo). No sauce, no nothing, dry spaetzli with two slices of toasted (microwave?) raclette cheese. That would be around 28 francs. Pfannenstiel hike, yes, but just take something to eat yourself and visit another restaurant with the money you save. Won't be coming back.

Great view! The restaurant is getting old. You have to make a reservation on Sundays and it's busy. The staff is not very friendly and the food takes a long time. The cooking here is very greasy, which is a shame. With the liver and wild mushrooms, the pure fat settled on the plate. Half went back to the kitchen and it's too expensive for that. The hash browns were great! Unfortunately, the salad was missing the dressing, which was delivered later. The space by the windows is not well insulated, the noise level is very high. We took our dessert elsewhere.

If you reserve a table and agree in advance that we need an invoice, yes, that's no problem at all. And then you have to pay in cash, I don't think it's that great.

8 people, 7 different menus. It was a poem. No wishes were left unfulfilled and I ate probably the best veal liver of my life. Rounded off by great and professional service. Gladly again! Note at the end: You can wait longer for good, freshly prepared food...otherwise it would be fast food.

The two ladies at the service were great. The gentleman had a rather grumpy nature and looked at me as if I wasn't allowed to sit here. The tensions between the staff are clearly visible. Toilet should be repaired again. Food is ok. Nothing special but not bad either.

Very beautiful view. Price/performance good. Lots of people in the early afternoon. Self service took a long time for fries delivery but friendly staff.

The staff was rude. We were told by a stressed waiter to sit “anywere”, so we picked a table ourselves and proceeded to settle down. Then the female waitress barked that this table is for eating only, not for coffee. How exactly could we have guessed…? When I asked if they have high chairs for our babies, the waiter said “Ja”, and just walked away. How helpful. Then yet another waiter came over for our order and was behaving weirdly too. We came to test this restaurant today as we are searching for a venue for a large family reunion in a few months. Needless to say, we will go somewhere else ;)

Extremely unfriendly staff. We were treated disrespectfully and we had to beg for the simplest requests, like pasta for the children. I have never experienced anything like it.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the various negative reviews. Sunday lunchtime, restaurant half full. Staff annoyed and overwhelmed. Orders were taken completely reluctantly. From the waiter to the boss, the same mood. Waited 45 minutes for food like various neighboring tables. Food unseasoned, below average quality. It was the first time and the last time we were there under these conditions.

Service super slow and waiters not friendly. Pfannenstiel is a great place to be with kids so it is quite unfortunate that restaurant cannot meet basic expectations.

Plate of the day chosen 1x fish 1x roast. Fish slightly oversalted, roast with lots of fat edges and with sauce. Will come again and give a second chance. Maybe it will work after the company holidays.

Apple tart good, service not. What a shame about the very good location of the restaurant. Management and staff need to be replaced, then this restaurant could be turned into an excellent business. Very rustic service with inappropriate humor, unfriendly, and obviously stressed and/or overwhelmed. Luckily there are good businesses in the surrounding area. You really don't have to go through this. Toilets are definitely out of date. Until a lot has changed here, they won't see me again.

It's a very nice restaurant with an excellent view to Zurisee and Greifensee. Service and food are ok in general. P.s. If you order a kalbsleberli, keep in mind that they cook it raw inside by default. If you prefer well-done, you need to tell this in advance

Beautiful! The view is breathtaking. But until you get the food, you become a snowman... The food is also partially burnt. 😂. Vegetarian consists of soup and fries. There isn't much of a selection here. Auchtung, I am referring to the Take-Away Bistro.

Such potential in such a stunning location but it's the second time where we have been left waiting with our two young kids for over an hour for a plate of fries and chicken nuggets...disappointing

This place ist really slow with serving. We waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive (2 adults + 2 kids). When we asked the waitress, her response was that she does not know, as she is just serving. It is the second time this happens, the first time we waited for more than one hour. Back then the restaurant was full. Today there were many empty tables.

The lady who served us was very unfriendly, actually disrespectful. At the beginning my grandmother, who doesn't speak German very well, but understandably, asked on the menu whether it was a Swiss wine, after the second attempt when the waitress didn't understand (she doesn't understand and speak German very well herself), She rejected my grandmother unkindly and spoke in a tone that was not acceptable. She should show it, she doesn't see or understand it. She ended up getting a cold red wine and I got a warm iced tea. Then we went to order the food, my aunt wanted a menu but a different fish, the waitress was again unfriendly and told her: “We don’t have time for special requests.” It was only a small change. My food (Alplärmagronen) was a very small portion in my opinion, I then politely asked which portion it was small/large. I was cheekily answered: “The normal one”, then said that the portion was really small, then wanted to ask for a second helping (supplement), but was rejected, got no answer, walked away ignorantly and even waved me off with his hand . She was otherwise very stressed, annoyed, arrogant and also unkempt. I find this simply unbelievable and I have to honestly say I felt treated more badly than ever before. I also find the prices unacceptable for the service, waiting time and portions. I think that's a shame because the place itself is very beautiful. I won't go there again and I certainly won't recommend it, I'm very sorry.

Super fine food! It's good - 2 stars because the buffet serving daughter Eus attacked the table because I had the Fehli salad sauce Gno Han! And before Alli Gàste made senseless theater! Stressed and rude staff!

It took 35 minutes after the salad plate was served until the main dish arrived. Not a word of explanation, not a word of apology...

I've been wanting to go eat for a long time

Service is horrible. Our “host” was made all possible affords to make us go. Even quite good food can’t save situation with so rude, inattentive and unpleasant man.

Meat was hard and the staff didn't respond.

We waited for the food for more than an hour, no one informed us about the waiting time, we definitely wouldn't wait that long. I understand it was Sunday, a busy afternoon, but still an hour is not acceptable. The food ended up not being the warmest and the value for money - very overrated.

Why do you actually put up with this - something like this only works because of the great location! Extremely snobby staff, no idea about hospitality and service awareness. And twice within one year I was overcharged, once a verbal note was enough, once a letter to GL was necessary for the refund.

Not far from Zurich, very quiet, superb view of lakes and mountains. Really cool!!!
