Excellent lamb chops cooked on the barbecue

Very frustrated at this place. To start with my family of 5 was seated in a table that each time someone had to get up the entire table had to be physically moved. Mind you when we arrived to our reservation the place was empty and there were plenty of tables. The server seemed annoyed by our presence and that made the mood very uncomfortable. I mainly chose this place for the fondue to then be told that even though they show it in their website they don’t serve because it would make the restaurant smell. This is a very expensive restaurant, more than usual for the area so I would have expected much more. Definitely do not recommend. So many other amazing places in the area with true Swiss authentic experience

Had a really great fillet steak . The meat was just as i have ordered it , very tender and served with lovely gratin potatoes. Defenatly a real deal grill restaurant. I would happily come back :)))

Le Gitan is a great restaurant located right along the vibrant Bahnhofstrasse. The delicious wine, Gambas Gitan, Lammcarré mit Kräutern, and Panna Cotta mit Wintergewürzen, Zimteis & Streusel were outstanding. Given their limited capacity, make a reservation in advance. Le Gitan is a must-try when in Zermatt.

This is the best service we had during our entire time in Switzerland. This grill restaurant is one of the best in the country! Excellent food, excellent wine, great service.

Very nice fondue place with great service.

What a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I loved the portraits of French Parisian history scattered around the restaurant walls.

Was asked upon entry if we wanted fondue or grill and when we said neither, we were seated in the back area of the restaurant next to a roudy family group. I was not happy with the arrangement. Husband ordered a beef steak which was really nice. Daughter & I shared a tomato soup as we were not too hungry. We also had half a dozen escargots which were not to my liking.

Excellent food and wines, the owners are good hosts. I loved the ravioli and the plum dessert.

It is a very cozy restaurant, priced in a rather upscale category. But it's worth the price. The food was great as was the service, you can watch how they prepare the meat over the fire. I highly recommend it. If you want to go, definitely make a reservation.

I've dined at my fair share of Michelin restaurants around the world, and I'm bewildered as to how Le Gitan Grill managed to secure its 1 Michelin star. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the host who took our jackets and allowed us to choose our seats. The initial impression was promising. However, things took a nosedive when the older male waiter seemed annoyed when we declined still or sparkling water, opting for wine instead. From there, it was a series of disappointments. We asked about the meat's origin and cut, but the waiter gave mixed-up responses. He rushed us through ordering, even snatching away our menus without checking if we were finished. The food had its moments. The deer carpaccio was enjoyable, but the lamb was overseasoned and disappointingly small. The beef fillet had a decent smoky flavor but was far from mind-blowing. Service was equally lackluster. My partner was done with their meal, but the waiter tried to clear our plates, and I had to remind him I was still eating. We skipped dessert as nothing sounded appealing. When we asked for the bill, the waiter's behavior was inexplicably rude. He roughly snatched the menus, dropped the receipt, and walked away without a word, not even a “thank you”. This experience was far from what I expected from a Michelin-starred restaurant.

I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough for their amazing hospitality. They could not have been more friendly or welcoming. The food was amazing and we had the best evening. I can't believe it took us so long to discover this restaurant and I would definitely go back. Thank you again for making our birthday celebration one to remember.

Had a terrible veal carpaccio here. There were pieces of burnt cheese (according to the waiter) and very dry pepperoni, which were literally not edible or chewable. When I showed the waiter those large pieces of inedible dry pieces, the reason given was that their oven was very hot therefore the food was too dry lol. That was the kind of excuses a kid would not even give.

Super fine food, very friendly service and very cozy location

A comfortable and warm place. We had no problem to take a seat without reservation. Food was very good and vegan friendly. There were many vegan options, the ravioli were delicious. Highly recommended!

Well, it's on the main street Meat could have been bigger for the price. There are restaurants not on the main street but rather in a side street where the price-performance ratio is better.

Sensational dinner in the center of Zermatt We were really impressed and are happy to have finally found a very good restaurant. The quality of the dishes was extraordinary.

Delicious dishes! We ordered a cheese and cold cuts board - great. Soup of the day - great. For the second course, risotto is great and the pasta is great!! Dessert - the ice cream was nice, but we couldn't eat the liqueur. Bianko wine is fantastic!!!

The food was great, the staff here really friendly. We ordered the prawn, the snail, and the lamb rack. I love the flavors in the warm starters. The lamb is served with 2 different cuts, grilled beautifully. The restaurant is very welcoming and cozy. We had a great time here.

Good dishes, good meat and good cheeses

Fantastic place, ambience nice and cosy, but not old fashioned. We had a fantastic steak and I had the lamb fillet/chops. Started with the "standard" green salad and ended with cheese and a panna cotta. With the fantastic wine suggestion.. we really enjoyed our evening.

The tomato soup was amazing! Good grills and good service, too!

The potato gratin and ratatouille were simply fantastic. And the veal paillard grilled over a wood fire and the beef skewer were simply sensational! Likewise the hosts and the waiter from Salzburg. We look forward to your next visit!

My best meal in Zermatt (this is my third time to zermatt, I have done any fine dining here yet). I ordered the lamb fillet. It was grilled to perfection. Pink inside. So tender. They grill all their meats on an open fire. The sides that came with the lamb - ratatouille and potato gratin - was fantastic as well. The owner’s wife got me a seat as I didn’t have a reservation. She’s so friendly and effable, which made the dining experience even better. I will come back again.

One of the best experiences I've ever had in my life. Everything special. Bárbara, owner of the restaurant, welcomed us in a spectacular way. Impeccable entrance. Exceptional meat. Amazing desserts. And best of all: with impeccable service. Very good energy! I highly recommend it!

Excellent dinner, professional and super friendly service combined with a nice ambience

A cook, who was at a grill, in this restaurant didn't wash his hands once, while touching raw meat, plates and cooked food. The let a child cook. The food was horrible, my food was almost raw, while i requested it medium. the service wasn't nice

This is a high-end and way overrated tourist trap. Food is bad and priced for the helpless tourist. My entrecôte was half gristle and the other half as tough as the sole of swiss hiking boot. My wife's fish of the day was meant to be a seabass. The filet was so small and thin that she barely managed to scrape three mouthful off of the limp skin. The service was a bigger joke. Very impersonal and fast. Menues were shoved into your hands and snatched back before you would have a minute to contemplate your choice. Appetizers and main course appeared within minutes giving you the impression that you were supposed to eat fast and get the hell out. The Restaurant was half full but the servers were constantly running around with such urgency that one would think there were hundreds of guests waiting to be served. All in all one can add this one to the list of Zermatt dining disasters.

Had, among other things, venison goulash and Graubünden dried meat - both were excellent. Service was also very friendly. Rooms a little cramped.

My favorite Grill in Zermatt... Place is always busy, the food is always good (very Good!!) and the Service is excellent... You want good food & wine in a lively ambiance in a nice place? Le Gitan is it!!!

Excellent restaurant, very tasty, beautiful interior

Ambiance is excellent and the plethora created a good vibe, but not overcrowded. The servers were very attentive and the food was excellent. Wine menu is large and they serve great house wines. Nice to also sit near the open fire place where they cook the meats right there. Overall, great dining experience, albeit a bit pricey, but worth it.

This was the worst restaurant yet !! Service was beyond rude. We walked in and the woman said she had a table in the corner . As she was full and asked if we had a reservation . We should have just walked right there. Didn’t know we were going to get glared at as we ate by the patrons . The waitress was so condescending and rude. The food was marginal . Rather salty for a fresh local cheese in the fondue. Overall we felt like the red headed step child who walked in off the street and was homeless. I wanted to remind the waitress that our credit card was just was good as anyone else in the establishment . NEVER go there !!

Our favorite dinner from our trip. I will dream about the potatoes au gratin for years to come. And the filets were delicious! Really enjoyed the environment of the restaurant and the staff were all wonderful! Also don’t miss out on their espresso martini and ice cream selection!

TL:DR. The food is great, and an easy recommendation to stop by and eat! I came here for dinner. They seems to have the restaurant sectioned off depending on what kind of food you want. Grilled on one side, fondue in another. The waiter was pretty helpful in wine choices, and placed in my food order pretty quickly as well. I was sat in front of the fire pit area, so it was very entertaining seeing the food being made as it comes along with both mine, and everyone else's. The food tasted great, and from looking at everyone else's plate, i don't think you can make a bad choice with the options they have! Dessert was also good. Overall a fine experience. The food can get a bit pricey, but the taste does reflect it! Well worth it.

Came here after a recommendation from a local and was not disappointed. Lovely welcome and great ambience with the open grill. We had the rack of lamb, sea bass, and plum sorbet, all highly recommended.

We visited for dinner. It's dinner time, so the store is full of people. I kept waiting and called the clerk passing by. She said she was very busy, as if she was angry. I know the store is busy and if she politely said she would take the order in a little while, I would have understood. A very rude clerk. I just walked out

Great experience! The tiger prawns were delicious accompanied by some scalloped potatoes. The people I was with had lamb and the filet, and they said it was phenomenal. However, nothing beats dessert: the black and white mousse. It was nothing but perfect served with fruit. Hands down best restaurant in Zermatt!!!

Grill/meats focused restaurant. The open flame grill adds a nice touch to the ambiance. Beef skewer comes in a larger and small size. Food was okay. House made Ice cream combo was delicious.

The food was very good, but the service was hellacious! I could not have been more rushed. The server paid no attention to where we were with drinks or the meal. It could not have been less personal. I couldn’t even get past the servers to go to the bathroom without getting elbowed. My husband and I are happy to pay for a high priced meal, but this was horrific. If in zermatt go to after seven…it’s amazing!

My absolute favourite place for dining in Zermatt. The goat cheese starter was amazing and the rack of lamb was perfectly executed by the chef. What topped it off was the 2016 Tignanello. Their selection of wines where great.

Good restaurant especially excellent meat cooked on the grill! The grill is clearly visible in the central room and in winter it also acts as a heater. We had a decent mushroom risotto, delicious grilled lamb chops and a gypsy salad with vegetables and fruit. Value for money ok I advise

Very tasty risotto. Carpaccio still a little frozen. Grill: Good quality meat, perfectly prepared. Typical barbecue charcoal taste is likely to be more dominant. Side dishes OK. Friendly service.

Le 26.12.2020. Nous nous étions annoncés pour un anniversaire de mariage, qui nous a valu AUCUNE attention particulière. Il a fallu à 3 reprises corriger la commande qui ne correspondait pas à celle effectuée. Une viande commandée saignante, livrée à point !!! En résumé un service négligé, un bruit assourdissant mais un prix inversement proportionnel aux prestations offertes.

Nous avons fêté un anniversaire et très bien mangé.Les röstis , la chasse ainsi que le dessert étaient excellents.Le personnel est aimable.. La déco chaleureuse.Une bonne adresse pour un dîner.

Non seulement ils ont accepté de changer ma réservation de 4 à 7 personnes le jour même mais nous avons, comme la dernière fois été très bien reçu.Les plats sont excellents, le personnel sympathique et ils portent les masques. Nous reviendrons lors de notre prochaine visite à Zermatt.

Good quality. Nice staff. The wine is a rip-off even by Swiss standards, though. A half bottle of Petite Arvine (37.5cl) for CHF 37.-, come on!

Incredible experience! We did not expect we will find a table in Zermatt because everything was full and we called this place, they found a table for us... An then came the surprise! A very kind team, always carrying about there guests, a fabulous meal (I recommend the deer carpaccio for the starter and the Lamb for the main course).We recommend (4 customers) this place 200% if you have eaten enough cheese in Zermatt 😜

Très bon souper, leur viande est excellente et leur gratin aussi. Pour les gros mangeurs, je vous conseille de prendre une entrée car les portions ne sont pas très grandes.
