Mönchhof am See in Kilchberg (ZH)

I feel compelled to comment. I love all the lake side restaurants on the Silver Coast and frequent them all, both with clients and alone between appointments. They all have beautiful settings and nice food but Mönschof stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of service. They are unfailingly polite and attentive. They treat you the same if you are a big party or just enjoying a hugo and truffle fries. For this reason I would recommend anyone to choose this spot and I would like to thank the staff for being honestly the warmest and most welcoming I have experienced in Switzerland. Danke !

Monchhof am See is a true gem among restaurants, located on the shore of a picturesque lake. My experience here was nothing short of extraordinary, and I can say with certainty that this restaurant has everything you need for a wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere at Monchhof am See is relaxed and welcoming, making it the ideal place to enjoy a meal with friends, family or even alone. The lake view adds an extra touch of charm to the overall atmosphere. A big plus is the availability of parking right next to the restaurant.

Service a bit slow. Can't tell who takes orders and who doesn't. But apart from this small problem it's a nice place and even if a bit slow the staff is still polite.

The skewer was dry, so the value for money wasn't right for me, fries with truffles were very good. Service forgot our wine and didn't apologize when we asked again. Location very nice!

Mega cool location, friendly staff, casual menu!

Great location and friendly service. However, 30.- for 6 tiny bits of fried fish is actually insane. Especially since the fish salad my friends ordered, had essentially the same amount of fish PLUS a whole salad and some bread for the exact same price.

Unfortunately, I have to give one star in the “parking” category. We wanted to go to the restaurant around 2 p.m. and went directly left from the main street into the parking lot. Since there was no more space, we wanted to look elsewhere. At the exit a man in an orange vest suddenly stood next to us and barked at us whether we wanted to go to the restaurant. We said: actually yes, but... The guy shouted: what now, yes or no?! So we decided no and went somewhere else. It's a real shame that we had to go through this experience. Could have been a nice day.

It had a lot of staff, none of whom cared about us. We had to wait forever for any contact with the staff and when we spoke to them, they said they weren't responsible or didn't speak German. Hospitality looks different. It's a real shame about the great location with the great view.

Rustic venue with a stunning view of the lake and city. Come early to get a table by the water as reservations are only allowed for groups of 10+ pax. Easily accessible with a decent parking spot. FOH staff are friendly and fast.

The service wasn't attentive at all. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for the second time until someone finally came to take our order! However, the food and ambience were good.

Great garden restaurant with very friendly staff. The first time I came with a friend was just before closing time and we were very kindly informed that they were closing, but drinks were still available. The second time the rain got in the way. As soon as the wine was on the table, the rain started. We quickly looked for a place under one of the many umbrellas. We didn't eat anymore. However, the food that was brought past our table looked very tasty and you could tell from their faces that it must taste very good. We would be happy to come back. The view over the lake is nothing to sneeze at either.

What an amazing experience… back in Texas where the “grilling” bar is set super high, this place exceeds the expectations. We stumbled upon this place on our walk back from Lindt chocolate factory. It was an unplanned walk and we saw this place crowded so decided to stop by for a quick drink or two. Little did we know that this would turn into a full blown dinner. All the sausages, chicken, avocados, and truffle fries where amazing. The drinks were spot on and the ambience, view was top notch. I strongly recommend this place …. ❤️❤️

Very pleasant atmosphere. Swan & duck family are good entertainment.

Had to wait a long time, without considering my pregnant wife (9th month) even though several tables were free. We then fetched a chair ourselves while we were waiting, which the gentleman from the parking lot kindly gave us. Food is solid but above average expensive for what is on offer. Large beef skewer, large Güggeli with three side dishes, large water and spritzer 110.- for four people (two adults, two children)

The atmosphere is very nice, right on the lake. However, the food was a disappointment. The grill skewer had a ready-made glutamate marinade. On the Mönchshof plate, the tomatoes and radishes were presented with their stems on, without salt or pepper. The radish stalks were simply used as volume for the plate. The salad had a ready-made dressing like in the large canteen.

Unfortunately, the best truffle fries in Switzerland are only half as good if they arrive cold every time...

This place was extremely busy on a Sunday evening, which is why it took about 15 minutes to be seated..(Family of 4) but still reasonable considering the amount of people there. The food matched the atmosphere, and there were so many options. Lively and had that buzz of energy as it was a nice summer evening. The only thing with it being a busy place, the service wasn’t very good, it was okay. We had to ask another table to borrow a menu to order. For drinks: aperol spritz, coke and fresh orange juice. I’m using the English names for the food as I’m not too good at remembering the German names. We had the wings with bbq sauce (really good flavour didn’t even need the sauce), fried calamari, fried fish, truffle fries, regular fries, baked potato with sour cream, grilled veggies, grilled corn and rib eye. Overall food was great and fresh, good flavour. Waiters were busy so we had to call them a couple times but would definitely go again. We were famished when we got there so didn’t even take pictures of the food when it came but got some of the place.

Top location, good food and nice staff. I can recommend the pumpkin skewer and truffle fries to anyone who likes to eat meat and likes truffles!

The ambience is super nice, but the service is very slow. We had to wait about 25 minutes for 3 glasses of white wine... and when we asked, we got a snippy answer. I can understand that they are always stressed, but then they just need more staff. It should definitely be possible given the high prices.

Delicious food, especially the wings and ribs are recommended. Fantastic location by the lake. Service is friendly but a bit overwhelmed at peak times.

Again and again, one of the most beautiful locations on Lake Zurich. The food is very good, especially the vegiburger. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately it is not possible to reserve tables, so the rule is first come first serve.

Improving - partially. The food is good, but boring because the same thing is served over and over again around the lake... However, it is rather too expensive for the quality offered. The map is originally designed, but sometimes completely incomprehensible. The majority of employees are extremely friendly and helpful. Toilets...no go! You don't dare touch anything and the smell...my god!

Nice and relaxing place to have a drink on the shore of the lake. There is a very good atmosphere and the food is excellent, I ordered a roast chicken and it was spectacular. That's Swiss prices.

The service was extremely bad. After it wasn't poured, I kindly pointed out to the service specialist that it would have been nice if the customer had been poured. The specialist and the boss then told me very unfriendly and sharply that this was not a 5-star restaurant and that they saw no reason to change this. For this reason there is only a 1-star rating, as according to the operator it is not a 5-star restaurant. Thanks for nothing. There are also other lovely lakeside restaurants that I would much rather recommend. No customer feeling!

The quality of the food has declined massively. A pity. Price for a Mönchhof salad with 4 slices of Planted 28.50 CHF. The small green one (not really smaller) costs 12.50. This is almost a rip-off. Service was ok.

Location is great. The food is really disappointing. Fischknusperli were cold and dry. Quinoa Salat lacked any taste. Truffel fries were soft. On top of that they charge CHF 10 for 1dl Miraval Rose.

Super well located restaurant. We just drank a juice there but the trays we saw passed made us hungry. The view of the lake is great.

The cocktails are really good (wine and beer are also offered), the selection is rather small but you will find something satisfying. Prices are ok but the view of the lake worth it. They are short in staff so expect rushed waiters and delays in your order. You can ask for tap water for free.

Great location and pleasant atmosphere. Feel free to come when the weather is nice, even if it is of course quite crowded. Of course, you pay for the location here. But the food is absolutely okay for the price, especially the iced tea is highly recommended!

Like this place: simple , but very good food, nice service. Even when it seems crowded , you would almost always find the table. Kids friendly , and there is a play ground close by , where kids play while we are still at the table.

Very unfriedly staff, firstly parking guy yelled at us how to park and demanded of us to go straight to the restaurant and secondly we waited for ages for bartender to show up once he showed up he served guests which came after our arrival.

Amazing place, great view, good service. But please it is 2022, we need oat,soja or any other vegan milk.
