Oberer Mönchhof in Kilchberg (ZH)

There are different dining areas, I prefer the old rooms with the low ceiling and the few tables in one space. Of course there are others who like the loud and chatty atmosphere, not for me thank you. The individual dishes are prepared with an intense level of attention and care. The service is very good, though I prefer waitresses and waiters to be dressed more discretely, less like young fashion conscious individuals, we are not guest in a restaurant to focus on how the waiting service is dressed. While the selection of wines is superb and the economic logic of such restaurants is clear, there is something asymmetric when the food is relatively cheap in comparison to the wines, which, while having been seleccted by the sommelier of the restaurant, nevertheless renders the work of the kitchen significantly less valuable. It was therefore interesting to see the regulars refraining from drinking wine altogether and opting for either beer or water. It should also be noted that the community of Kilchberg, that owns the historic building, has rented it to the restauranteur at a very low rate.

Great ambience with attention to detail. Very fine food. Zurich Geschnetzeltes and Stroganof have a creamy sauce and the meat is top. The hash browns are nice and crispy. Absolutely beautifully cooked. We recommend!

Style and character: The Oberer Möchhof restaurant is located in a beautiful old timber-framed house that creates a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The successful combination of modern and traditional ambience gives the rooms a special touch. Service: The service was attentive and friendly. Food and drinks: Both the flamed salmon as a starter and the stroganoff for the main course were excellent. The sauce for the stroganoff was particularly tasty. Conclusion: Overall, the Oberer Mönchhof is a real pearl with a solid kitchen. The successful mix of appealing ambience, attentive service and high-quality food makes a visit here a pleasure.

If you go there it can only be good. Great service, very good food, special requests no problem. Beautiful outdoor area under old, dense trees. Rustic and homely inside. Not cheap but worth the price. 👏🏾

Nice place with good food in the upper price segment. Unfortunately, this is not appreciated in the slightest by the host. Urges staff to process quickly. Really unpleasant experience with the landlord. Was insulted that I had to be patient until he drove away another guest's luxury car, which was blocking my car. I am no longer welcome, which of course I take seriously and will never come again.

When asked whether vegan dishes were also served, we were given the following answer: “No, we serve haute cuisine, not vegan. If you have a VW, you don’t take it to a Prosche garage.” You can have your own personal attitude towards veganism, but such arrogance is more a sign of a personality disorder than of fine dining...

Dined there in the evening! The service is incredibly charming and casual! The cuisine at the highest level. The best Zurich Geschnetzelte I have ever eaten. The wine list is sophisticated and also convincing. If you also love cars, with a bit of luck you can check out one or two racing cars/vintage cars in the parking lot.

Good restaurant, nice location in summer under big trees and with a wonderful view over the lake. The food is sophisticated and thought out and implemented with a lot of dedication. The service is very attentive...almost intrusive. Upscale price range. Recommended.

As expected in a place like this, dinner obviously came with a relatively high bill, which is fine. The lady at reception is really great, very friendly and helpful. Our service employee, on the other hand, was a bit taciturn. We asked for an aperitif and he offered us this Taglierini and when we asked what exactly it was, he just repeated it. We also only received the drinks menu when we asked for it. But since the food is the deciding factor, I have to say that it was absolutely in line with expectations and that it was really very balanced and, especially with special combinations, a real treat for the palate. Food definitely 5 stars, reception as well, I would have given the gentleman in service 3/5 and because of what follows, a maximum of 1/5. But what is really exaggerated is that we are offered water without being given the drinks menu and it then costs a whopping 14.- for 7.5dl. 28 francs for 1.5 liters of water with/without. I would have given it 1/5 stars, but the food was too good and the receptionist was too professional.

The friendly staff took our objection seriously, we ordered a Stroganov meat dish, we received a beef ragout - there was exactly one detail missing that made this dish special. The dessert was served carelessly without any decoration and at the end the free coffee was also charged

I have been at Oberer Monchof often over the last 10 years and while the location is always amazing - I see the restaurant sinking. Food is nice and very typical, but lacks distinctiveness or willingness to adopt to new trends. The service is incredibly inconsistent and dependent on the waiter. What is for me a bad sign, is the total lack of interest in considering patrons suggestions. After a disappointing dinner with business colleagues, I tried to offer some easy 'fixes' (both in person and by e-mail) with no acknowledgment whatsoever. Personally, I'll take my business elsewhere from now on!

We were invited guests at a wedding, so I can't judge what the upper Mönchhof is like otherwise, but the food was great, the staff was really brilliant and the location left nothing to be desired. Great experience! I'll definitely come back.

Everything is just right there. The view, the professional service, the menu, the portions, the content, the quality. And so on. Price/performance is perfect. May not be suitable for every wallet. But you should still afford it.

Amazing Food and Location, probably the best kitchen in town..

This is a very nice traditional swiss house with amazing views to the lake Zurich that has been renovated. The menu is a one pager with several starters and several main dishes, with all kinds of flavor combinations. And they have a closed price for a 2 starters, a main and a dessert (drinks not included). The food was excellent: very well cooked and nicely presented. To be honest is the first time in 10 years that i see foie (duck liber) offered in a restaurant, almost no swiss person i know has ever heard of foie or even paté. Id like to remark that it's not the type of restaurant I would go any given weekend, since its very modern and creative, for me is more like a "special occasion" type of restaurant. The service was nice, although a tad slow. The starters took at least 15min to come, and from the second starter to the maim it took around 25min. The price is high, but you won't find this kind of food in many places, with so many well-thought, properly cooked, modern recipes.

No experience at all. I have just arrived with my father and my 18 years old son after we have visited Lindt and although there were a lot of empty tables the owner/manager did not have even the kind to explain to us why we could not have a table, just saying that they were full reserved (???). We had even took a photo when we arrived as we could not get an uber after Lindt and went walking. The food might even be good but the attention to the tourists is the worst it can be.

Great expectations - no fulfillment. I made reservations two weeks ago for my sister's birthday. Yesterday the time had come, we arrived - hardly any greeting, just "table 19". Of course we wanted a view of the lake (which was explicitly mentioned when we made the reservation). With great effort, a table was shoveled free. Food: 4 times the same dish, none of them were warm/hot - the neighboring table apparently had the same problem... Dessert came for my sister and she had to eat alone because we didn't even get the menu for dessert (?!) Wine: Was taken away and we had to ask where it was to be poured again. And all for 450.00 CHF for four people. Disappointing - we definitely won't be coming back! ----------------------------------------------- After commenting on Google, the boss Mr. Thoma called him personally and called him a LIAR, a COWARD and a BAD PERSON. I have never experienced something like that... Photo attached from the reservation (which I apparently didn't make). I can only laugh about this company and wish you a nice life, Mr. Thoma!

Drinking something spontaneously at 3 p.m. is not possible. You are arrogantly rejected. The reason: The evening table setting must be ready at 5:30 p.m.... There were enough places available. You also have to learn how to politely turn away guests!

Its this kind of considerate gastronomy that saves the fast pride of Switzerland! Take you guests there and they will appreciate your cinsideration.

Die Gourmetjungs hatten Ihr Comeback nach Monatelanger Absenz und wir konnten dank einer interessanten Zeltvorrichtung inkl. Wärmepilzen den Abend entsprechend im Oberen Mönchhof geniessen.Ein Lokal welches wir als Gruppe bereits kannten und sowohl Küche wie Besitzer extrem schätzen. Dank Kreativität und Wille auch bei durchschnittlichem Wetter den Gästen etwas bieten zu können wurde dieser erste Abend nach Monaten trotzdem ein voller Erfolg und wir gönnten uns die Klassiker des Hauses und einige der schönen Weine seiner ausgiebigen Karte. Auch wenn natürlich Sicherheitskonzepte eingehalten und streng waren, kann man es als gelungenes Comeback sehen und einmal mehr hatten wir grosse Freude bei Adrian und Isabel, welchen den Mönchhof zu einer ganz feinen Adresse machen.

Waren vor des Lockdowns hier zum späten Abend, es war wirklich nicht viel los, dennoch haben wir für unsere Cocktails über 30min gewartet - geht meiner Meinung nach gar nicht. Das Personal wirkte lustlos und gleichgültig. Das (Herren) WC wirkte zwar sauber, roch aber beißend nach Urin. Ich habe diesem Laden öfter eine Chance gegeben und wurde immer enttäuscht - lange Wartezeiten was Bestellungen, Speisen und Getränken angeht. Teilweise kaltes Essen bekommen etc. Hier passt weder Service noch Preis/Leistung, da braucht die Belegschaft sich auch nicht wundern, warum Sie kein Trinkgeld erhält. Schade, dass wir keine besseren Erfahrungen machen konnten. Keine Empfehlung.

Non conoscevo il posto, ma mio figlio mi ha invitato per una cena gourmet.Il posto è molto bello in una struttura antica, rinnovato, anche l'interno molto accogliente.Personale molto disponibile e gentile. Ho apprezzato che anche il proprietario è passato un paio di volte fra i tavoli per chiedere se tutto andava bene. Ci ha servito il "braccio destro" del proprietario la signora Isabel.Abbiamo chiesto il menu degustazione, per il quale si poteva scegliere fra un antipasto freddo, uno caldo, un primo, un secondo ed il dessert.Abbiamo preso: salmerino fiammato con tapioca, cipolla, avocado e limone.Pancetta di maiale cotta sottovuoto, insalata di fagioli, pera e chips di patata.Ravioli di vitello, con il suo jus, parmigiano e salvia. (una squisitezza assoluta!).Come piatto principale abbiamo presso un'ombrina con pastinaca, semi di senape, radici nere e pera.Dessert ho potuto mangiare solo un piccolo sorbetto alla panna acida con croccantino.Caffé e piccola pasticceria.Sia la presentazione dei piatti, le consistenze e la gustosità era qualcosa di veramente superlativo!Lista dei vini ottima completa.Consigliatissimo!!! Prenotare!I prezzi sono adeguati per quanto presentato e degustato.Bravi !!!!
