We were on the Jungfraujoch with guests and wanted to enjoy our lunch with them in the Mönchsjochhütte. Unfortunately nothing came of it. When we entered the hut and wanted to go to the dining room, the hut warden's dog was already greeting us from the KITCHEN!!! Since the hut warden's dog was on a leash in the KITCHEN, but the leash was so long that it blocked the passage to the restaurant, I took my dog in my arms. Although my dog is friendly, or perhaps because of it, I wanted to avoid an encounter on a leash in the narrow hallway. When the hut crew discovered us with a dog, we were immediately told in an unfriendly tone that we couldn't eat with them with a dog. We should keep our dog on a leash in the hallway or outside; dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. At that moment I was a little angry at the injustice. The hut warden's dog is allowed to stay IN THE KITCHEN, but our dog is not welcome in the dining room... I understand that dogs are not welcome everywhere, no problem, really! Write it outside, ban your dog from the guest area and especially from the KITCHEN! I don't want to hear that it's your dog's home and that's why he's allowed to do this. It was our third visit to the Mönchsjochhütte with our dog. The previous two went harmoniously and we were also treated to a friendly welcome with a dog! When you read the more recent recessions, our experience seems to fit the bigger picture. We hope to see a new cast at the hut next time!

Good hut in general, nice that they have toilets separate from main building so there's no smell in the common area. Food's quite good, and birchermuesli at breakfast is a nice thing to have. Staff attitude is divisible though - some of them are super friendly and helpful, some are arrogant and not willing to help much. Hopefully there's more of the former. Note that they might not have running water for washing up in hot season.

Unhelpful disaster. They have successfully ruined our plans for holiday after traveling accross Europe, paying 1000€ for lift to Jungfraujoch, arriving at noon to half-empty mountaineering hut by explaining us that there is no possibility to sleep over, even on floor, paying more, helping out, whatever. You have to book a day in advance, pay and confirm, otherwise no chance in hell they will let you sleep over. Do not forget that if you really have to go to this hut. We had to cancel our trip.

A beautiful cabin in a wonderful location. We spent 4 days here for mountain climbing. The food is okay, but there are definitely better huts. What we found really lacking was the friendliness of the staff. There were several situations in which you simply felt unwelcome. For example, we sat a little longer at breakfast because of bad weather, then the hut warden shouted at us that we should clear up, after all breakfast is only available until 7. It is often simply the way something is communicated, not necessarily the content. But you just have the feeling of being a burden to the staff on site. Another factor is the water supply. We knew that there was no running water at the hut, we didn't expect that. The only realistic way to get drinking water is to buy 1.5l bottles in the hut for 12 francs. We had expected a higher price, but for a stay of 4 days for 5 people, that is a significant cost factor. It would be desirable if a difference could be made between restaurant prices and basic services, or at least some kind of volume discount would be possible. That would certainly increase the willingness to drink more schnapps in the evening. All in all, we will definitely look for somewhere else to stay next time.

Mountain hut at 3657 Meters Above sea level. From Jungfraujoch, it's a 45 min hike over the glacier (secure route). High altitude means low oxygen! Be careful with sunny weather not to be dehydrated!. Once you arrive at the hut,the friendly staff are there to get you comfortable with a good meal and a nice glass of wine. From here the climb to Mönch takes about 2 hours. This hut is great for a starting base to climb the many 4000+ meter peaks .

Least bit of weather and they will start to tell people that they are not cooking and it is too late or that they strongly discourage you from coming. It was not tiny and it’s literally in the middle of nowhere but the food and the presentation were impeccable!!! Order kaseschnitte (bread with ham(?) covered by cheese with egg on top. OMG it was soo delish! Spinach soup with sausage was good too but I would definitely order kaseschitte instead. The cheese and salami plate was very good and amazingly assembled. We devoured it in two seconds. 😂. Hike to this place was brutal and took us sooo long to get on top. On way back, we just slid down on our feet with each step half way running and got to the bottom really fast. I loved removing our shoes and putting crocks on which cutely put in shelves. People who work there love the cabin and it shows. ❤️

Go here because you can, not because it is easy. Go here for the view, not because the service nor the food is great, but the food will taste amazing because you deserved it and because of the view, not because it is cheap or gourmet. Takes 1-1,5 hours to go up and 30-45 minutes to go down. It is a hard walk in thin air - bring plenty of water - only way to refill is expensive purchases.

We called at 3 p.m. and asked if we could still come. The Austrian hut helper's first reaction was: "What, today?" Then they told us that if we came, even though we hadn't registered until 6 p.m. the day before, we would have to pay an extra 20 CHF per person. When we asked why, they couldn't give us a satisfactory answer. The hut was almost empty (80 places available). If we asked, they would have taken money from us if we had just stayed overnight without half board, which definitely wouldn't have meant any additional expense for them. I've never seen guests treated this way anywhere, especially when the house is almost empty anyway. However, different laws apparently apply at the Mönchsjochhütte. By the way, the reason for booking at short notice was unexpectedly bad weather, which meant we were stuck at Jungfraujoch and couldn't go to the Finsteraarhornhütte as planned. They let us cancel for free. Apparently the attitude there is a bit more flexible and mountaineer-friendly. What the Mönchsjochhütte did, however, was blackmail. By the way, we weren't the only guests who were bothered by the hut warden's rules that day. Two other groups got into an argument with him because he was unwilling to serve breakfast at the requested time. He then became a bit loud and aggressive. Dear alpinists, this hut obviously doesn't need you. I want them to earn their money with coffee and cake for walkers coming from Jungfraujoch. But please look for other accommodation.

I ask the waitress ( very young and really cold) where the menu was and she told me THERE’S NO MORE FOOD! Meanwhile all her colleagues where cleaning the kitchen…25 min before the end hour. Do they really want to make me believe that on the first and most important week of august, the only hut on the Jungfrau runs out of food so early and it just happens that all the staff was thoroughly cleaning the kitchen? They were unwelcoming, cold, didn’t want to work and serve the clients…we had the feeling we were bothering them!
