Strauss in Winterthur

Delicious food that was prepared with a lot of love. Very friendly and competent staff. We'd love to come again... :-)

The food is really good. The portions are large. The service clearly lags behind one's expectations. The room was far too warm. The wine is rather moderate for the price. Nice, but somehow not round. The price is not right for the amount.

Food and service was great in the bar and restaurant! Our "service" of the learners in the 2nd year of training impressed us extremely with his flexibility and adaptability!!👌🏼 keep it up!!!

At the end of a successful evening, head to Strauss with a good atmosphere and live music. I can only recommend. We really liked it, the bar team was very on point and you didn't have to go thirsty.

Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant was anything but satisfactory. Despite making a reservation for 9 people at 8 a.m., we didn't leave the restaurant until 11:15 p.m. because we had to wait an extremely long time for starters and the main course. Even though the restaurant wasn't fully occupied, there were delays. When ordering wine for our group of 9 we were told there was only one bottle left. The management suggested another wine without mentioning the price, and in the end it turned out to be 30% more expensive than the original. The service also left a lot to be desired, with long waiting times. The highlight was ordering Chateaubriand with truffle fries. The meat was served with normal fries, the sauce only came after repeated requests, and the meat was already cold. Upon discovering that the fries were not truffle fries, we were told that we would get them on the second plate. Finally, the trainee was sent to us for payment, even though the staff were informed of the dissatisfaction. The food tasted good, but the service and management decisions were disappointing.

There were 9 of us there. We ordered at 8:30 p.m. Starter came at 9.30pm our wine was sold out the waitress offered us the same wine 2 years younger. The wine was ultimately different and cost us 30fr per bottle more, which we only discovered on the bill at the end. A friend and I had Châteaubriant with truffle fries and sauce. The fries were normal but only after asking were we told that the truffle fries only come with the second course of Châteaubriant. The sauce was only delivered to us after we asked 5 times. The meat was already cold at this point. A friend had beef tartare and had to wait 20 minutes for her toast. Basically the food was great but the service was totally miserable. When we paid, the only person there was the pen who tried to put us off; the boss or supervisor couldn't be reached. We almost felt a little sorry for him. I will never visit this reataurant again.

The aperitif was very nice, the service was friendly and attentive. The food was also very good. So I recommend it :) Walk by unattended. :)

We had dinner at STRAUSS on business and I ordered “rib eye steak with fries” for CHF 58. Unfortunately, I can't rave about this meal. The taste of the meat reminded me more of a simple beef steak and the consistency of a cutlet with a less pleasant mouthfeel. The fries were noticeably too dark/greasy. The person sitting next to me ordered the same thing and came to the same, unfortunately not so good, conclusion. I don't want to unnecessarily discredit this fundamentally beautiful STRAUSS restaurant with good cuisine, but the menu "Rib Eye Steak with Fries" should definitely be reconsidered and optimized.

We were there with a group, service was attentive and professional, presentation of the food was very nice, unfortunately not everything was completely fresh (e.g. potato gratin from the fridge doesn't taste good), in this league the food has to be impeccable, therefore at least one star less . The restaurant is nicely decorated, but a bit overstuffed with art. The noise level, which is often mentioned in other reviews, is really high and puts a bit of a damper on the mood. The attached fumoir is well attended and you can't smell the smoke in the restaurant.

We went there to have our New Year's Eve dinner and it didn't disappoint. The foods were exquisitely prepared and taste very well. The waitresses were very attentive and nice. Not to mention that they have been in business for a very long time but the quality didn't deteriorate. Also another plus is that they have a bar just beside the restaurant. Definitely worth it to go there!

Top gastronomy at the highest level! An all-round successful evening. Very attentive service from greeting to farewell. The dishes were prepared to perfection with a lot of love. Excellent wine list with very good advice. The price level was absolutely appropriate for the performance.

Never ever.. We were "unloaded" again (4.5 hours before)...it was our Christmas dinner... - that The kitchen team is not complete. Hello😠...that's possible not. We definitely won't be coming back. The apology was contrived...

Food very fine - price/performance ok - wines too expensive

The bouquet does an excellent job. The hostess and service staff are always courteous and polite, and the kitchen responds to all wishes. The card leaves nothing to be desired. The bar is busy and lively. The bar has a very good selection of spirits and cocktails. On weekends it's sometimes too fast but everyone is always in a good mood and even jokes with the guests. They all do a great job, so I like going to the Strauss. I can only recommend eating here to anyone who wants to experience creative and high-quality cuisine with high-quality service. Thanks

What a beautiful restaurant with a select menu of food and wine. Highly recommended, but definitely make a reservation.

Exceptionally good service! The food was prepared with great attention to detail and the combination of all the ingredients was an experience. Thank you for that!

Our table wasn't free and we had to have an aperitif in the bar. When we got to the table it was very crowded and extremely loud. Then there was no more beef fillet and we had to reschedule. I had Ripede's steak which really wasn't very good. In addition, the vegetables were forgotten. In order to pay, I had to ask 3 different people until it finally worked out. For this price (520 CHF for 4 people) you can actually expect something different. I'm very disappointed especially since it was a business lunch.

Lunch (curry soup, venison entrecote) is delicious

Fine restaurant with a garden restaurant, stopped by spontaneously and got a table, but that was lucky because it was very well attended. A great idea in the middle of the city when the weather was nice! STAFF VERY FRIENDLY AND FAST *gladly again!

Super friendly and attentive service. The atmosphere is nice for the city center in Winterthur. The menu is small and clear, but at first glance some important information about allergens or the origin of the meat is missing, but the employees are happy to provide information. The food, I enjoyed the “Zürcher Geschnetzelte”, was well presented, the side dishes were cooked to perfection, but the meat and sauce were rather “unimaginative”, sweet, full cream with little taste - you could try a different recipe. Still definitely worth a visit.

Visit mid July for dinner time and was quite comfortable to stay in the outside table. Started with Crispy and delicious green salad and gazpacho soup was a bit spicy. Entrecôte was so tasty. There are both beer of Zurich and Italian, both are good. Enjoyed good taste grappas in the end.

Excellent food and service. But if you like the beef tartare cut by hand, don't order it there. It was the only negative point. The chef is quite young and friendly, goes to the tables to check if everything is ok. He explained that in Winterthur people prefer to eat a "destroyed" machine cut tartare. It seems they don't know what is a gooood tartare 🤠. We didn't take first course, nor an expensive bottle of wine. Count approx. 100-150.-/ person for a dinner there. Anyway, restaurant highly recommended !

30 minutes waiting time at the bar for 3 cocktails (apologies were made), reservation missed, selected wine not in stock, wine list served before menu, beef fillet Stroganov tough, beef starter unseasoned, langoustine tiny portion... oxtail soup very good... at the end During service, the boss came to support the understaffed but very hard-working team for another 5 minutes. refilled the wine at our table but forgot one person..then left and left the team alone again..they apologized for the food with coffee..all in all very disappointing..kitchen very prompt

An absolutely recommended restaurant. The kitchen is fantastic, the service is friendly and the location is ideal.

We chose the Strauss restaurant in Winterthur for our team meal. Reservations are mandatory here as the restaurant is very well booked. For a starter I treated myself to the scallops. These were fried to perfection. For the main course I chose the “Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak” with fries. The meat was cooked to the right level of “medium-rare.” To accompany it, we chose a 2019 Nostrum for CHF 75. For dessert there was sorbet “Colonel” which rounded off the menu. I paid CHF 120 including coffee, which means the price-performance ratio is right in my opinion. The staff was very friendly and took us straight to a table in the corner. I can recommend it because the noise level is relatively high during rush hour. The plates were hot and the wine was decanted. The meat was the right level of doneness for me even though I wasn't asked about it. Furthermore, the dishes were a little low in salt, which is a matter of taste. The food was really great, the service was very nice and did a good job for my taste, but I also asked once too often if everything was OK. Ambience was good for my taste, the tables are a bit too close together, especially when the service staff is serving, it's annoying. I find it totally annoying and not good that all the dead flies can be seen in the lampshades and that it smells like cigarette smoke. Otherwise we had a nice evening.

Chef only greets people he knows, other guests like us were not greeted even though we were looked at and all four times🤔🤔🤔The staff is no longer as attentive as they were four years ago. The chateaubriand was warm and not hot and the plate in which the oxtail soup was served was only lukewarm. A pity The barmaid offered us a nice gin at the beginning👍

Unfortunately we didn't like the food (they tried to fix it) and the reception was rude. The service staff is well trained, friendly and attentive. The food is daringly put together, but of high quality. In addition, the noise level and the small distance between the tables make it unsuitable for a date.

We were our first guest at Strauss on December 31st. The restaurant was recommended by friends and it did everything that was promised to us. Great food, great wine recommendations and very polite and professional service. The crowd was really very mixed and also very pleasant. We sat in the back room which was very comfortable. To the kitchen: There were 6 excellent courses, each course a DREAM. We also drank a red wine from Spain that went great with the food. The service staff took good care of us and our family. Thanks.

New Year's Eve party was cool, unfortunately the staff was a bit overwhelmed and miscalculated by 45CHF...

Unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right. Quality has decreased. We had dinner at 7pm on the plain side. There is no price difference for white table or wooden table. For a sausage cheese salad for CHF 27.00 there really has to be something special, unfortunately not half Cervelat, little cheese and a lot of green salad. Egli vending machine but nothing special, a little too few and also too expensive. As soon as we had eaten we had to leave our seats and after half an hour we were politely but firmly turned away. I'm not going anymore, for everyone else you think about it

The food was very good, down-to-earth but newly interpreted. Unfortunately, the staff was a bit understaffed on Saturday evening, which was due to the current staff shortage and was confirmed by the waitress at the end. But very friendly. It's great that the chef came by personally. See you soon!

Today, after 3 years, I'm in a traffic jam again. I'm a little disappointed. A total of 4 waiters/waitresses at the table. A top, the others not very likeable.... Don't understand why just one person can't take care of a table... I had food, vitello stfauss, which was really tasty. For the main course a dry aged rib eye was good but for 60 francs I expected a bit more. I will definitely come back and eat something different
