Christoph is a perfect host and chef! He truly cares about his guests. We have visited La Montanara many times and really love to come here. His set menu with antipasti, main course and desert is excellent and the wines offered splendid. The fireplace allows to warm up after a hike in the woods nearby. Make sure to call to inform him about your arrival or enquire about opening hours in advance.

We found ourselves with a nice surprise! We had booked, but when we arrived they didn't even bother to look at us. The owner was having dinner with other guests. After giving him a nod, he finally threw the place setting for us hastily without a tablecloth. We asked for a glass of wine but he offered a bottle for consumption. SORRY THAT AFTER HAVING NOTICED THAT OUR CONSUMPTION WAS ONE GLASS EACH, HE POURED A GLASS FOR HIMSELF BY SEATING OURS, CONSUMPTING OUR WINE WHICH HE THEN INVOICED US! Total 20.- for two glasses! For the meal, a salad as a first course, two second courses and two desserts, we received a bill of 120.-fr. Do you think it's worth it? Furthermore, if we want to give an opinion on the food, it was heated on too high a heat. Therefore a little too dry. It's closed for us! The owner's attitude towards it was unpleasant.

Cooking, serving, clearing up etc. The atmosphere is very familiar and the fireplace is particularly nice. Great value is placed on the quality of the products (organic, origin, etc.). Accordingly, the menus are updated daily and vary depending on the availability of the products. Our food was very good. In addition to a very good Swiss Merlot, which was recommended to us, we had antipasti (self-service), ravioli, venison with fresh mushrooms, veal knuckle, saffron risotto, chestnut cake, Linzertorte, walnut ice cream with Nocino. We felt like we were here in the land of milk and honey and we took a culinary journey through Ticino for three days: polenta, risotto, pasta, rabbit, roast, sausage etc. and always excellent vegetables - not to mention the delicious desserts, starters , wines, cheeses... Nice location, menu limited to starter and main course (at another table, AFTER OUR ORDER, first courses were also offered...???). The two of us have a buffet appetizer (a small plate); decent food but a few days old; the ham was almost dry. 2 second courses with side dish: good roast veal but 3 slices with a diameter of 5 cm and sautéed vegetables reheated from the day before. The manager then makes us do an encore, we take another slice. A bottle of discreet Ticino Merlot. Two desserts based on sour apricots without infamy or praise, a coffee and a Bailey's. 150 chf!!! We were treated like tourists to be fleeced, it's a shame that instead we live a few kilometers away and will tell many people about our experience. The manager never used a mask. We had delicious antipasti and homemade pasta for lunch in a very relaxing atmosphere on the sunny terrace. Very friendly owner.

Very nice grotto with a brilliant view, beautiful, comfortable and cozy guest room and superbly served as a one-man show by Christoph, the very cheerful and funny host. Simple but delicious, traditional cuisine with only one menu per day, nice wines and - during my visit - well staffed by local guests. The drive into the valley is adventurous and worth it because of the landscape and narrow streets.
